Not over the top, but had all that we were looking for. The beach in front of hotel is great. Actually saw a turtle. Black Rock is a short walk away. Also a short walk away is the Whalers shopping complex. Stay is friendly and amenities are pretty good.

This hotel is very clean and the staff is exceptional. It has lovely grounds and the beach and location can't be beat. Our room had a lovely view of the ocean. The mattresses and linens were in good shape. However the hotel is very old and dated. The bar is way, way too small for the size of the resort. It only seats maybe 20 to 25 people. The pool is also too small and there is not a jacuzzi. Since the pool is not heated and it was a little chilly while we were there this would have been a nice addition. It does have some very large lawn areas which are lovely. If it is raining there is really no place to go and hang out. I would describe the interior decor as "true Hawaii" probably from the 60's or older. which is kind of cool. The food was very mediocre and there is no view of the beach from the restaurant. For breakfast they set up the buffet in a large interior room which is like on old gymnasium. The good news is right up the path there is Whaler's Village which has all kinds of eating establishments and bars with views of the beach. There is free nightly entertainment at the hotel which I would also describe as "true Hawaii" It may make some people think of Lawrence Welk. It is an affordable hotel and the majority of the guests we saw were families or Seniors. It does have a very nice location. If you want an affordable hotel without any frills, then this could be your place.

My wife and I went to this hotel for our honeymoon and had a blast. Really laid back and an awesome location, right on the beach. It's near the whalers village mall and there is a golf course across the street. The beach is huge, there are dinner cruise boats that pull up right to shore and you can board from the beach. Black Rock is a popular swim spot and is close. There are many other great beaches nearby as well, but have to travel a little. The drive to Kehei or more into the central island is a little ways, but beautiful. It has a parking garage, although it's a little tight. We have stayed in Kehei before, but if you have a vehicle this location was much better in my opinion. We had a blast.

I am so impressed- I love this place and never want to leave!

The most helpful and friendly staff, laid back vibes (no hard selling as no commissions are taken on activities here, so all recommendations are the real deal), awesome location and a tiki bar with the best tropical cocktails I ve ever had (seriously go here if you have a chance!)

The prices are fair for any extras like parking rentals and drinks so I don t feel like I m being ripped off. Lovely breakfasts every morning and even live music and shows on the weekends.

I almost didn t want to post such a good review so I could keep this gem to myself .... but I just had to share.

I ll be back!

Wonderful staff and aloha spirit found here. Hotel is beautifully situated on Kaanapali Beach with incredible sunrise and sunset views. Enjoyed staying here on a recent business trip as the property is conveniently located near Whalers Village and charges no resort fee. I can see how the guest service keeps loyal travelers coming back again and again.

This years holiday was a special one, you know the sort when you reach a milestone birthday or similar. The 'specialness' was greatly enhanced by this wonderful hotel, set on the beach with warm breezes blowing gently across manicured gardens making it very comfortable. The staff, mostly locals, were pleasant, helpful and eager to ensure everything was just as you would want. Its not the poshest hotel in the world but it is one of the friendliest I've stayed in.
The Hawaiian Islands are a wonderful place well worth the extra costs to get there and the long hours of travelling from the UK.

As others have mentioned, KBH is an older property with a more traditional Hawaiian flavor and feel. It is smallish, quiet, and low-key. If that's what you're looking for, then this is your place. It occupies an excellent location on a beautiful beach, just a few steps from good snorkeling at Blackrock. We had an ocean-front room in the Molokai wing, and were close enough to the ocean to listen to the surf in bed at night. Staff is very friendly and accommodating. On the down side, there is only one small pool. If that's your thing, look elsewhere. Also, it would have been nice if there were more organized activities available. Al in all, it is a good value. I would stay here again.

Ideal location. Next to black rock for easy snorkeling, boogie boarding, cliff jumping, miles of boardwalk
north and south, lots of shopping with mall next door
Minutes from lahaina.

I can't recommend this hotel enough! We went on our honeymoon. It was AMAZING. The staff went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and celebrate our honeymoon! Local musicians played outdoors every night near the bar and they were wonderful! The location was perfect - walking distance to Whaler's and to Black Rock, we swam and lounged on the beach every day. And this hotel was so affordable. I can't wait to go back! Now that we have kids I really hope to bring our kids there - They have free classes and activities for families, it's so
family friendly!

I had a beautiful spacious room with a balcony and ocean view. The location is super as there's a long scenic beachside walk running behind the hotel grounds. It's possible to catch a bus or take a taxi to the centre too. There were good choices of cocktails and casual meals in the grounds. I enjoyed the traditional evening entertainment, which I could also see from my room. It's a welcoming hotel with lovely traditions and values.

Me and my wife stayed here for 5 nights for our 5 year anniversary and we loved it. The stsff was super friendly and overall the whole experience was great. We will definitely be back to this hotel.

The building we stayed in had open floors so there were bugs in the hallway. We found a few bugs and a couple of roaches in our room. The staff was nice and helpful and the free welcome breakfast was very good.

Super older hotel. But the location of the hotel is fantastic! Waking distance to the Whalers Village & great restaurants . Great lighted walkway by the beach, where it is such a pleasure, just to take a stroll after dinner. Truly will come back.

If I could give this Hotel a higher rating, I would, so I give it a 10+. The staff, from driving in to the entrance, to the lobby, and to our room were 100% professional, kind, helpful, and smiling. Our room is perfect. Great location to the beach and pool. The breakfast buffet is good. The Luau was fantastic, a must to experience. The food was great and the show was beautiful. There are a lot of activities for children. They have a Aloha Passport for your children. It is a game, destination scavenger hunt. They receive a small gift for each area of the grounds they visit or activity they participate in. It is great! The Lei making was fun. The woman teaching this class is so kind, and talks of history, and of the Lei. A $10.00 cost. Worth it. The Hula class was fun. Free. There is a Hula Competition this Friday- Nov 8 and Saturday- Nov 9. Tickets are $20-$25.00. I cannot wait. There is a walking path that will lead to other Hotels and SHOPPING! Great stores! Louis Vuitton! A must. Visit the Honolulu Cookie Company. You can thank me later. Is it expensive here, yes. Aloha Mixed Plated, in Lahaina, is great.

Stayed here to celebrate my wedding anniversary. The hotel is a little older, but was nice and clean. It had a lot of charm and character, and was a relaxing place for a romantic getaway. Fun fact: the pool is shaped like a whale.

This is one of my favorite hotels. And.... They have rooms real, real, close to the water! Nowadays nobody's allowed to build that close to the water. Also, there's a big, grassy area near the pool. The whole place ISN'T cement. Like the other hotels. I would choose this hotel over The Hyatt and The Marriott. These hotels overbuilt and everywhere you look, it's all cement everywhere. Not much grass. If you like a wide, open space, then you will like The Kaanapali Beach Hotel.

Great hotel overall. The room was in good, not great condition. Seems like it s an older hotel, but kept up fairly well. Our view was amazing. Upgrade to the Ocean View and it will not disappoint. Plenty to do at the hotel or at least nearby. The staff was very friendly and always helpful. Especially Ron at the Bell Service. He was extremely helpful. He gave us some great tips on places to go that made our trip even better!

Overall we really enjoyed staying at the hotel.

We had a great stay at KBH! The grounds were beautiful and the beach was amazing! The rooms are very clean and comfortable and the maid service is wonderful. All the staff are friendly and welcoming. We loved the breakfast buffet, it was amazing and well worth the price. Our room was courtyard view but we could see the ocean and hear the surf every night. We also could hear the live music from our balcony at night. We will definitely be back!

Best all-you-can-eat buffet ever! They got everything from sushi to Kalua Pork, and Prime Rib!!! If you're lucky, there will be live performance. Sometimes they even have KPOA the best radio station in Maui, in my opinion. Other than that, the lobby is amazing with Christmas trees for the holiday season.

Relaxing atmosphere. Free activities, night hula shows. Friendly hotel staff. (But not the lady that works in the Deli Corner....was too busy to help us get postage stamps)

The Staff, luau, and magic show were great. Love the tiki bar and met lots of great people, the grounds are beautiful. Short walk to lots of shops and restaurants. The rooms are dated but if your hanging out in your room your missing out. Already planning our trip back next year.

This place is amazing. The ONLY things I would change...is the prices of food, and add a hot tub. But this hotel is amazing. Staff definitely have the aloha spirit! Would definitely stay here again!!

This was an interesting experience. We stayed on Hawaii for two weeks, but used exclusively B&B's. All of them were really nice: super friendly and helpful hosts, breakfast and parking included, really nice and cozy rooms - all in all real good value for money. On our last night, we wanted to try out one of the hotels at Kaanapali beach and decided for the Kaanapali Beach Hotel as it was suitable for our budget. However, still more expensive than all of the really good rated B&B's we had. Our first impression here was really bad: the building has aged, but not too well. Everything looks like it was forgotten in the 1980s. Also the cleanliness was subpar. And you had to pay extra for breakfast and parking. But as soon as you leave the room, things get better: the location of the hotel is fantastic, the area is really nice and you can place your beach chairs wherever you want within the perimeter. What was really fantastic: they offer a hospitality room in case you have a late flight and want to have a shower later the day of your checkout. Starting at 6 am you can sign into a list (first come, first served) and enter a timeslot (half an hour) when you want to use this room. This was great and came with no extra cost! Also you can use the pool and beach towels even when you've checked out already. So if you don't mind the lacking 'luxury' which is probably offered by other hotels at Kaanapali beach, I can recommend this place as an affordable alternative. In the future, however, I'll stick to B&B's. Far more value for money if you don't need a huge pool or direct beach access.

Very authentic hawaiian culture and great free activities. The staff was very helpful and the grounds are beautiful. This isn't a run of the mill resort in Hawaii this IS Hawaii. It was our first time to Maui (honeymoon) and there is no doubt we will be back here. Simply amazing

Valet parking for only $2 for entire buffet. Coffee good. Free breakfast vouchers included into price. The breakfast is hearty with large variety. Rooms clean. It was however easy to hear neighbors in the morning. Bathrooms are clean and showers/ pressures are great. I would stay here again.

Don't ever stay on the 1st floor if you plan to pass out on the ground. If you do happen to pass out on the ground, make sure you keep your mouth shut and pray that whatever is crawling on you doesn't call his friends.
