I love the old NYC Central Park South feel. The building is classic, and does not disappoint.

Service is excellent and I think the drawbacks are due to the Wuhan Virus counter-measures required by the City of New York.

The room was of course spotless, fresh, and felt luxurious. As it is a Grand Dame of NYC, it is solidly built and therefor very quiet, with almost zero ambient noise.

I might suggest that the hotel security attire is not a good idea. While I appreciate knowing the premises are secure, the black polo shirts emblazoned with SECURITY across the back, gave the feel of bouncers at a club, often crowded near the front entrance. I haven t had this experience at a Marriott before.

Altogether an excellent experience, and I will always choose a Marriott hotel when possible.

Excellent location with Outstanding, energetic and enthusiastic staff. Warm and inviting bar and restaurant with exquisite wine selection. Very nice rooms with unbelievable view of Central Park. I would Definitely encourage my co-workers and friends to enjoy this fine home away from home.

Very nice hotel and great location. My wife and I are young and she was given a hard time just ordering a bagel at the restaurant in the morning. They made her feel like she didn't belong there. We stayed 3 nights and as much as this hotel costs you would think they'd try to accommodate all guests appropriately. Other than that overall good spot.

Worst Marriott I've ever stayed. It's almost midnight but the construction is still going on the street. There is no way anyone can fall asleep with this noise! The hotel staff was not helpful at all! Extremely disappointed!!!

There are just so many branches of JW Marriott even in India. Best hotel, little but expensive but it's worth it. In India it cost around 10,000-15000 per night. The place is awesome. From gym to swimming pool, jacuzzi, hot tub(kidding) everything that you could think of. Awesome stay.

I wasn't blown away by any means, but for NY I guess the room was spacious and clean enough. I just feel like the JW Marriott is trying to be the Ritz, but you simply get so much more at the Ritz (the extra attention to detail). For instance, the robe was just pitiful. It was extremely thin and felt terrible on the skin. But you could tell it had been put there as though it was some sort of novelty - like it checked off a box for them (yep, fancy-looking robe like the upscale hotels have. check).
As far as I could tell, for when we stayed in the city, the prices were comparable to the Ritz (which is why I'm making this comparison), but the Ritz was all booked up. I was also very put off by the receptionist/operator when I called to check in on the items I'd ordered to the room (extra towels, because there weren't enough for two people). After 30-45 minutes I called to simply check on them as I wanted to shower and go to bed, and the woman proceeded to argue with me about how long I'd actually been waiting (yeah, because that's a good approach).
The concierge was very knowledgeable and friendly and recommended a restaurant that we'll actually be trying when we're back in town this weekend. No complaints about that experience. He was great.
And finally, the restaurant was such a disappointment for breakfast. Our waiter disappeared after we ordered (a la carte, not buffet), and the food was so overpriced and underwhelming. Again, going with the overall theme of trying to be the Ritz and really falling short.

The staff was great! Check-in was quick and painless. The valet gentleman were very polite, professional & offered recommendations as I was new in town, did not have to ask. The rooms were clean and functional for work and leisure. The beds and pillows were comfortable. The robes fitted well. Bathroom was clean and great shower pressure, only wish the shower heads were wider. The breakfast was delectable hot and fresh. All of the staff were awesome! I will definitely be staying here again.

The Hotel has an unbeatable location. All services are of excellent quality. It also has remnants of Art Nouveau decorations, which brings a pleasant atmosphere of nostalgia to the place. My recommendation, if you guys choose to spend a little extra, is to choose rooms overlooking Central Park.

Excellent. The consierges very friendly and very knowledgeable (off the top tips) and all the staff very friendly and competent. Super stylish hotel. I stayed in another until I discovered this one. And it's close to everything in Manhathan.

I was here for a wedding. The ball room was great for the event. Spacious and very accommodating. Bathrooms were very clean as well. Staff was very courteous. The penthouse on the 34 floor was very impressive with an amazing view of Midtown and Central Park.

This hotel was amazing. The room size is amazing for NYC. You might get a brick wall view but it is really close to central park. The executive lounge is really good too for a quick bite. Stay here.

Essex House was simply stunning. All the staff members were friendly and helpful. I was able to easily make my way over to the restaurant area, where I had 2 glasses of wine. All around great ambiance, great service

My partner having Premium Elite status by choosing Marriott as our hotel of choice provided no additional customer service here. When we tried to check in, they said the room wasn't ready even though we were hours past check in time so we had to walk around NYC aimlessly for an hour at 10pm until a room was ready. After our stay when I tried to call for an emailed copy of our hotel invoice, the lady who answered told me the card I gave her was not the one she was seeing even though I was looking at the charge on our card statement. She proceeded to tell me she would not help me until I gave her the card number she was looking at and had the nerve to ask me if I was trying to scam her. I received this kind of treatment just by asking for an extra copy of an invoice. The hotel staff are rude. Marriott clearly does not value its high paying customers. We'll stick with the Starwood side of the house.

Essex House was pretty great. The restaurant has some very good drinks, and the concierge can recommend some excellent good options in the neighborhood. Here you are across the street from Central Park South and only a few minutes from Carnegie Hall. The staff are friendly and responsive. Overall, would recommend a stay here.

The hotel was beautiful and the service was excellent! I did leave something behind at checkout though and they said they can't find it in the room. I know exactly where I left it and it was super sentimental to me, that's too bad. Also, we were calling an Uber to take us to Newark Airport and the doorman suggested taking one of the available black cars that were waiting. We declined and said Uber is cheaper, so he says he'll have them match the Uber rate (which was $61). We said ok and took the black car, who charged us $140 at drop off and demanded cash only - which we didn't have. So he says "well if you use a card I'll charge you even more." We obviously didn't have a choice, we had to pay but it was super disappointing. Really put a bad taste in my mouth wondering if him & the doorman were in on this scam. My suggestion to others, take the Uber where the price is upfront and cannot be changed - those black cars lined up outside are predatory and unfair.

This is an incredible hotel located South Central Park. The amenities are top notch. The Executive Lounge is exceptionally well appointed. The rooms are some of the largest you can find in area. The suites are even larger. The hotel bar is quite expensive for the area, but there are many alternate options nearby. I'll definitely be back. This is a favorite location of ours.

One of the worst experiences I have had during a hotel stay. I stayed at the Essex House and upon check in I went to my room and started to unpack before I headed out to an event. As I unpacked, I pulled open the dresser drawer and found an open box of condoms and jelly. The bathroom shower had also just been used as there was water on the floor of the shower. I immediately asked for a room change and was given a new room that was half the size and no paraphernalia. Never ever going back to this hotel. What s even more infuriating is that JW Marriott Essex House has yet to respond to the issue.

Excellent Hotel in a fabulous location - we stayed here for a few days with the kids and the hotel is great. Location is right on Central Park in between Columbus Circle and Fifth Avenue shopping. The hotel rooms are nice and spacious, everything was impeccable. The doorman and valets were very helpful and very staff member was very attentive. We had some issues with the Wifi and our rooms were not ready until 6pm, hence the reason for 4 stars instead of 5

Grand old lady of Central Park South that has an unbeatable location and a storied history . It deserves to be so much more than Marriott but a combination of strata sales and underinvestment prevents it from being the showcase that it deserves to be...this Hotel should rival the Ritz Carlton Central Park South and it would be an excellent location for the likes of a Shangri La or a new Waldorf
