Loved it... read the book as soon as I got home. It's an amazing house. Just glad I never had to cook in that kitchen. Gardens amazing too. Guides were informative

This is the actual House of Seven Gables of history made famous by Nathaniel Hawthorne.

We were not able to see through windows, nor go inside. However was able to get this one pic, it is on the corner of a very busy intersection.

Its awesome but there is a cramped stairway but that's part of the experience.

Interesting piece of Americana. Would was actually entertaining and keeps your attention throughout the grounds. For anyone who enjoys history I would highly recommend this location.

The house is nice and the secret stairway is fun but I wish I d spent my valuable vacation time somewhere else.

Museum is a must see. Great old building if you like old buildings.

This house is historical in American literature. Nathaniel Hawthorne American Author brings it to life but it's a must see in reality when visiting one of my favorite towns in Massachusetts .The gardens are stunning ,the house is spooky looking but fascinating and at the end of the street is a fab view of the bay...

A nice guided tour that explain everything and clearly .... You can get the visit in the language of your choice

Great tour. Great history. Very interactive. You actually get to traverse the hidden passages. Beautiful ground as well and several other houses available for self guided touring.

What a wonderful surprise to find this historic location on our impromptu vacation. A definite must see for all fans of history and literature.

An absolute gem of Salem! Made famous as the inspiration for Nathaniel Hawthorne's novel of the same name, you don't have to have read the book to appreciate this place. Our tour guide expertly delved into the real-life story of the house, it's importance as an example of Salem's history, and architectural significance. Be sure to also visit Hawthorne's birth home and the gift shop also on property. This house's position right on the water provides a perfect glimpse of the beauty of Salem!

Very interesting house, the guided tour of Hawthorne is also included in the admission fee. The only landmark in Salem is not a tourist trap!

Because I love history and enjoy having a tour and wonderful information given out. Also loved being able to use the Secret Stairs and listen to all the history. Touch some things and take pictures.

It's okay but much better than the other place I visited. I found Salem to be an over-rated lame tourist trap. So this place isn't too bad comparably.

Very knowledgeable tour guide gave us a great tour of the house. It's less than an hour and runs often. Highly recommended on a visit to Salem. You can explore the grounds afterwards (great place for pictures) as well as the Nathaniel Hawthorne birthplace. The House has a great history in the Salem community. Glad we went!

Best Place to visit in Salem! The tour guide was fantastic and hilarious.

Very fun experience and lots of interesting historical facts. Both me and my husband enjoyed the guided tour. At the end you are able to do your own self guided tour which was also fun. The houses are well kept.

The House of the Seven Gables is stunning to look upon and truly takes you back in time. I was most fascinated with their stunning gardens filled with a beautiful arrangement of flowers, shrubs, fixtures, paths, and seating areas. These gardens added to the beauty and closes of this home.

Honestly, I've never read the book, but even if you have zero interest in literature, this house is a nice place to visit. The tours give a good overview of the history specific to the house, and cover some architectural history too, which is especially nice if you're less into the literary side of things. Aside from that, the views across the water are great, and there are adjacent sites covering Nathaniel Hawthorne, with some historical demonstrations to go along. Not a bad spot overall.

I was able to get there just before a new tour started, so there wasn't any wait. The tours did seem to run often, though, even in a more off-season time like March. As far as getting there - it's right along the Heritage Trail and there are plenty of signs nearby to direct you. The home itself is amazing and has some great surprises, especially one that I won't spoil. The guide was friendly and informative as well. A nice bonus was getting to tour Nathaniel Hawthorne's birthplace at the end. The House of Seven Gables was something I've been meaning to see on many of my day trips to Salem and I'm glad I finally got in to check it out.

Great tour, and funny. Nice gift shop too. Still not sure why this place is so attractive and has an aura of such importance. I guess it's mostly the book. Some interesting history but nothing too crazy.

An interesting collection of homes surround the house of the seven gables. Lovely grounds and great history lesson.

I am a huge Hawthorne fan, so I'm probably a bit biased. I thought this tour was excellent!

Rich history. Very educational. The tour good was very good. Didn't stumble upon his words once. I recommend going. It's nice to learn more about Salem then just about the witch trials.

Place is so cool....surprise hallway....not great to manage if heavier set....but they have alternate routes if can't make thru some of it.

Tour guide was very informative. Some of the original home was altered 100 years ago to match Hawthorne's fictional story about the house and the family.

Great museum, very interesting facts on pre revolutionary stories. I suggest guided tour docents are knowledge.

Interesting historical location worth the trip but its not for the uninterested as it's significance is nothing extrodinary.

It's a historic house. The guide was very informative. The kids and i loved the secret passages. Stairwells tight, roofs low. Cute area for pics. Small cute gift shop. Military discount

Cool house, they were closed when we were there so we weren't able to see a whole lot of it.

The tour was very interesting and well laid out. Must remember the houses are hundreds of years old and were built differently. Gets a touch cramped if you're tall but not for very long. The grounds are gorgeous and it's worth it for the view alone. Would recommend reading the book prior to visiting, makes it more fun.

In a town with so much faux witch "history", The House of The Seven Gables actually has historical value. The tour is interesting and gives a real sense of life back in colonial times. Just watch your head as the ceilings are very small. Be sure to hit the candy store across the street before you depart, it's hard to find other parking in this neighborhood.

This was amazing. Hands down the best part of our visit to Salem. So rich in history, the building and gardens are beautiful and our tour guide was full of interesting information.

Ok at best ,guess you need to read the book,the house is guided and so you cannot take the time to read literature at each room,there is another tour on your heels and in the next room disturbing our ability to hear our guide.

I didn't go inside,however the grounds are beautiful and I would definitely visit when I return.

A very cool and historic tour. You are transported to 18th century New England. You get a real idea of how the early settlers lived and its a beautiful property right on the water.

We did not take the tour and viewed the house from the exterior. For the cost I think you would really have to be a big Hawthorne fan to bother. Not much view of the house if you dont pay to go in.

By far, my favorite museum tour in Salem! What a gorgeous place right on the bay.

The tour was wonderful! Jeff was amazingly knowledgeable beyond the scope of just reciting the set script per each room. Animated and fun for all ages. Definitely recommend him as your tour guide if you decide to make the trip (:

Not only was the tour through the house very informative, about the home owners and architecture style of the period you get a few other house to view. Like the birth house of Nathaniel Hawthorne.

Went today for the second time ever and had Terri as a tour guide. She was simply amazing! She seemed very passionate about the house and it s history.
