Really clean facility, you feel like the animals are well taken care of.
They are so helpful with care for and medical needs for my cats and stray cats .
Over the years we have adopted numerous dogs and a cat from this facility. They do a wonderful job with the animals!
Friendly, clean, fast! Dropped my furry baby off to get neutered, came back to get him right on time! Everything went smoothly, they even called me to ask about getting him dewormed and informing me of the extra cost before being administered. Highly recommend!!!! Thank you so much guys!!!!
I have been trying to get medical information on the dog I am fostering and can't get anyone on the phone! The animal hospital finally called me back and told me that they don't keep the records - the main SPCA does. What? So you don't keep the records when you spay and vaccinate an animal? Really? I am pretty sure there are some laws on how long you are legally required to keep this! Needless to say I am still leaving messages on every telephone prompt I can because it is impossible to get a human. I am less than thrilled that I have a dog who is sick and that my vet can't properly treat her because we don't have the records.
I don't understand why there is not one person who can at least answer the phone.
Took my dog I found before hurricane Irma and even though after 10days, she is not a "found dog" and requires a surrender fee but even tho I had her 3 wks while I tried to find her a home, they offered to waive the fees. I happily paid them though. They were the only rescue to reply to me and she was pre-adopted the VERY next day. The dogs are all cozy and happy, not in cages but little cubicles with raised cots and the cats are housed nicely too. The community resource mgr responded to my email in only 1 day, spoke to me in depth when I arrived as I was upset to be parting with the sweet pup I couldn't keep and even relayed the news of her adoption to me which they normally aren't able to do. They are VERY understaffed - PLEASE DONATE YOUR TIME to foster , answer phones or anything at all. I don't know why there are so many negative reviews that have NOTHING to do with the performance of the JHS. I would give 10stars if I could.
The building is fantastic, the kennels are good sized and kept clean.
Volunteers are amazing and very helpful
I have also taken a pet to the veterinarian clinic on the premises and they were FANTASTIC
What a wonderful experience! The day we went was extremely busy due to their silent night event taking place. My hubby has been talking about adopting a dog ever since I met him. Well today was the day! Jorge was the volunteer that helped us and he was so incredibly nice and helpful. We ended up picking a black lab that had been returned just a couple days prior. This was the best decision we literally ever made. We have a very large family and our new member has just blended right in! He is so great with the kids and very well mannered! The entire process was very smooth! Thank you all so much! We love him!! Merry Christmas!!
Met the love of my life here! She's the best kitty.
There doesnt seem to be anything they wont do to help you with an animal situation. I had newborn kittens that were abandoned and I was provided supplies and resources. It was way above my expectations. What a great resource we have in Jacksonville.
This shelter is very nice and helpful. Usually have long wait times though.
You know you just want to take them all home so we did that except just one
Friendly volunteers who are truly dedicated to the welfare of the animals as well as helping customers find their best friend.
MY BOYFRIEND SURRENDER TWO AWESOME CATS. SATURDAY. I'M SURRENDERING MY CAT ON MAY 27TH. HIS NAME IS ANDREW. HARD TO DO, BUT THIS PLACE IS SO AWESOME. THE PEOPLE WHO WORK THERE ARE SO CARING. SO ARE THE PEOPLE WHO ADOPT THE ANIMALS. I WAITED TO SEE HOW THEY TAKE SUCH CARE OF THEM. GOD BLESS THEM.
We adopted our 2nd rescue dog here. Great staff, caring employees that bond with the dogs and cats. Brand new buildings. Stop here first on your pet search.
It s a beautiful facility and it was a great experience. I tried to adopt a dog but the owners came forward to claim her.
Adopted 2 lil kittens. The experience was great and staff was a huge help.
I have been calling them since this morning and no one called me back about a dog I adopted yesterday.that my son is allergic to him...
I have been to the vet office a few times and it was always clean and staff was nice. My complaint is my name was taken off as my dog's owner and i was not even contacted. My ex husband needed my permission to add him to the account so he could get heart worm medicine and i called to add him but then he can take me off the account without anyone calling me and getting my approval.
We adopted are first humane society dog and we love her
I have a rescue dog from them he is a great dog the people there are always knowledgeable very friendly and always willing to help in any way that they can they have a great thing going and I support them every month with donation I would strongly think suggest anyone going there to get a pet they're always in the top of health and well taken care of if there are any problems highly recommend this place
I have left three messages one Friday one Monday and no one has called me back yet I need to surrender a dog it belong to my mom she passed and I cant find anyone to take her I not allowed to have her this si hard she is very good dog please help
Have adopted multiple cats from this location and also donated multiple rescue cats to this location, along with donating food and other commonly needed items. They're usually over capacity, but that's to be expected. Great place overall.
If you want a new best friend, come here for sure! I got my granddaughters new pup here! Rusty. Cutest and sweetest dog I have ever met! They have a very wide selection of pups and cats. (Most not on the website.) They also have a program, where you can have a sleepover with a pup of your choosing. Love this place and the new dog.
Dropped off some donations, for the first time. Wowed by this great new facility. Surprised, though, by the number of empty kennels and cages. What's that about?
Love it nice people they take good care of those animals
Great place
I love them
Amazing just a long wait for the adoption agent but worth it!
I got my baby girl from here and the staff are supper nice. Adoption was super easy and only took a couple hours. The facility is really clean as well. I recommend this place to any looking to adopt.
BEAUTIFUL PLACE TO SURRENDER THE DOG OR CAT YOU WANT TO SURRENDER OR ADOPT ONE. STAFF IS WONDERFUL!
These animals are well taken care of and seemed to be thriving given their heartbreaking circumstances.
Very rude customer service when going back there. The first time I went there to adopt my cat they were really friendly and patient and gave you all the information you needed. I then went back a couple months later and the service was awful mainly from a girl named Alexis. She was very sassy and rude. But would recommend adopting from there.
It's NEVER easy going to the animal shelter, but going to a place with good staff that's set up to give the animals optimal care is rewarding. I always recommend rescue pets and this location is a great place to start.
So thankful they could accept my Babies to find them new forever homes. They seem to try to help in any way they can.
My complaint is that they don t explain the surrender process too well. I suggest saying final goodbye before entering the building as the cat will be brought back immediately and no further contact is allowed. Understandable but doesn t help a distraught person any more in the surrender.
I would definitely recommend them and their staff...overall.
Their new facility is very nice and all of the animals seem to be well cared for.
JHS is great at keeping their facilities clean while under construction. I can't wait to see what the new building looks like when it's finished. All the staff and volunteers are very knowledgeable and considerate too. Pets are also well taken care of!
I love this place I did volunteer work at the old building.
My husband and I really wanted to adopt a pet and came during normal open hours. The facility was gated up.. circled around 5 times to try and find a way in, or if the gates would automatically move when pulling up to them and was never able to get in. I guess you need a code? Really frustrating..
This is an excellent and very needed organization. They should not be judged if they are full and unable to accept intakes - they are a no kill shelter and the enormity of the number of homeless and stray pets in Jacksonville cannot be adequately put into words.
Quick side note - I don't work or volunteer for JHS. I just think it's important that people be informed...or at least not misinformed.
The Jacksonville Humane Society is not to be confused with the Humane Society of the United States. It is a home grown, local organization with deep roots in Jacksonville. The CEO of the Jacksonville Humane Society does NOT make anywhere near $4 million dollars a year (as claimed in another review). In 2014 it was a little over $127k a year, which like it or not is pretty typical for non-profit.
Because they are a non-profit group, all of their financial information is listed on their website under the 990 and audited financials (just click on the "About Us" link). And, how 'bout that? You can read about the organizations history there as well.
Trying to create hatred and steer support away from this organization will only cause suffering to the ones who least deserve it - the animals they aim to save.
They never got back with me for the help I was looking for
They have many resources to help people with their pets and they take very good care of the animals with them. I'd personally recommend adopting a dog that's been with them for a while because the dogs get used to going out to do their business and learn basic commands.
They helped us when our cat got terminally ill, thanks to them are cat is still with us
Nice size rooms for
the cats and most of the dogs.
It's hard to take my time with an animal.
It seems like there is always another perspective breathing down my neck as if there is no other animals for them to look at.
Volunteers and staff are friendly, helpful, and accomodating! The facility is clean and ready for visitors and potential adopters. The dog behavior staff/trainers are very knowledgeable, honest, and helpful. I love the open rooms for the animals and the visiting rooms that help keep things personal and confidential.
Very clean. Staff is welcoming. Animals are well loved. Volunteers were reading to the dogs.
I adopted 2 kittens from here. The staff was friendly, helpful, and informative.
Helpful staff, nice to see all the animals taken care of
Wonderful experience and the staff were very helpful and friendly. Amazing facilities.
Love this place, I would give it a5 for the last 10 years I have used them but the tech with dreads is rude, disrespectful, dishonest, talked down to me like I was a inconvenience to her, did not ask 1 question about my pet and wrote on the chart all kinds of info that I said even though she did not ask me 1 question about anything, took my pet, came back 8 min later set her down and walked away with not a word to me. VERY DISAPPOINTED, with this trip,
We adopted a pup with heart worms and The Humane Society performed the entire treatment as well as supplied the medications free of charge.
Been going here ever since and always will!
Wait is long and they cant tell u much about the pet u want to adopt but they have some wonderful pet and staff is friendly
For how much staff they have, almost all the cages are full of feces everytime I visit.
Poor sweat puppy dogs. I wish I could take them all home with me
I have seen them for years and they are awesome with my animal's great staffing
If you need to find a place to take a stray it will be 3 months from the time you call this place before you can bring the animal in
They always want to schedule the drop off for 2 to 3 months out
Great to rescue Biscuit the pugmix. Alice loves her new dog
My 3 year old son got bit in the face by a dog after waiting there for like a hour and a half we didn't come home with a dog just a son with a bleeding sore face
They have a program "dogs-day-out" where you can take certain dogs out aslong as you bring them back before the gates close. My girlfriend and i took out Daisy and she was such a sweet heart! This program is a huge deal because you are pretty much advertising the dog, so not only do you get to enjoy time with the dog you increase their chances of being adopted. Absolutley loved it and we plan on coming back to bring other dogs out! 15/10 recommend doing this if you dont have a dog, plan on adopting, or just want to help dogs get adopted!
Adopted a dog here. Our first visit. It was a Saturday so very busy. The staff was friendly, kennels were clean, did not smell like a shelter, building is beautiful, animals looked well fed and cared for.
fantastic organization that care deeply about helping animals, great place to volunteer and give something back.
I absolutely love Jax Humane Society!! They had a free adoption event going on one weekend back in February. We just came to look and we ended up leaving with our baby Mouse! The staff was so sweet and answered any questions we had. We always recommend Jax humane society because shelter babies are always the best and they take such great care of them.
