My rating is based on a brief experience I had at JHS today, but I look forward to being able to work with them more. I was devastated to have to surrender a stray dog I found by Normandy Village Elementary who wasn t in the best shape. He s so sweet & the staff were gentle with me as they could tell I was upset by the situation. They made me feel more comfortable & happy with my decision to bring him to a shelter. They told me about volunteer opportunities after I nearly broke down about wanting to be able to visit the dog. He goes by T-Bone there & will be neutered, then up for adoption.

Great

Vet Clinic : while I've been very happy with the vets and the friendliness of the clinical staff here, I cannot give a 4-5 star review because this clinic is so poorly managed.

1. One can't get an appointment within a reasonable time. I would have had to wait 6 weeks for my pup's yearly checkup.
2. If one has an appointment, the wait times are anywhere from 40-60 minutes post-appointment time. I won't even wait that long for my own doctor.
3. No one ever answers the phone. Calling them means listening to an endlessly long recording. When you press the number for the clinic, you're faced with yet another long recording and after you've made your selection, you get a voicemail asking you to leave a message. Good luck getting a call back.

I am so disappointed with Jacksonville Humane Society after my visit there today. We scheduled an appointment to see dogs and showed up a little early. However, we just throughout the process. First you have to wait to get inside, way past your scheduled time, and then you just walk around and look at dogs without having any information on the dogs at all. If you find one or more you want to see, then you learn that about half of them aren t available anyway for a variety of reasons. Then you have to wait again, for an hour and a half in our case, just to meet the dog. They are friendly enough but clearly do not have their act together at all. We had a much much better experience at Animal Care & Protective Services.

Never treated as rudely as I was when I went in the shelter with a dog that was in immediate danger of being hit by a car. A young girl named Alexa treated me with blatant disrespect. It is a very long story, but I spoke with the supervisor, who I might add was very professional and apologetic about her employee, and I registered a complaint. I have made many donations of money and food to the shelter and to be talked to like that by some twenty something year old kid is totally unexceptable. Every other time I have had dealings with them it has been a very positive experience and I will continue to support them, but I refuse to have any dealings with this Alexa. She needs to get in another line of work because Customer Service is not one of her strong points. I appreciate the Supervisor calling me back to discuss the matter.

Not a good selection of dogs at all. The building is beautiful. But no dogs they only had 3 dogs . The other were viscous pitbulls . When you go up to the glass door in the rooms that they are in the seem friendly but they would jump like they would break the glass doors. And they growl and bark omg no wonder they are in the shelter who wants to risk taking a dog home like that.

With a friendly and loving environment we came here with my mother-in-law which she had taken in some feral kittens we had no choice but to bring them to the shelter not only did they reassure her that they will not be harmed but they would find a good home for all three of them that gave her peace of mind that she did the right thing and I just really appreciate them doing that it's just amazing there's still people out there that love others and the pets.

It took a while before the employees could get to us, but I guess that's a good thing. Means more of those precious animals were maybe getti g their forever homes.
It was clean and well maintained, did not smell like animals.

Amazing facility with great Staff that genuinely care about the animals and the potential adopters. Staff take their time and answer any questions you might have. I've adopted two different dogs from them and have been extremely satisfied each time. They're my #1 recommendation for anyone looking to add an animal to their family.

Didn't take in a stray dog I rescued. They close at 6 pm and I got there at 5. Told me I'd have to wait until the morning because she didn't want to turn her computer back on. I work like a normal human being 6am-4pm so it was impossible for me to come back. I'll think twice next time about being a humane person.

I found a stray dog and brought him in, they scanned him for a chip and had me sign in and fill out a found dog form. They are very nice and so so helpful! I love the new location as well!

Adopted my cat from JHS in 2016 and was quick and easy...wish I could say the cat is easy going, she's still pretty cool.
Found a couple kitties in the woods at a park; Jax Humane made it easy to drop off the kittens.

I adopted two male kittens from here and noticed fleas crawling on them. I informed the lady and all she says was "Aw, that's unfortunate". So now I have to deal with the fleas in my home because the JHS doesn't care for fleas apparently

Adopted a kitten. After you decide on a animal you have to wait and talk to a counselor, ( LONG WAIT). Then I had to wait several days so they could fix her. When they called to tell me she was ready to go home, I has to talk to another counselor. ( Another LONG WAIT). BE PREPARED TO WAIT.

I have nothing but respect for all the employees and volunteers who devote their time and energy to this shelter. JHS is a no kill shelter which I am so proud to support. Currently the adoption price for cats and kittens is $75 and this includes them being up to date with their shots and spay/neutering prior to taking them home. I am unsure of the price for dogs. If you are looking for a loving cat or dog, you should definitely look here, this is an amazing organization!

My initial experience was actually pretty pleasant, was able to go in fairly quickly to browse the kennels. However my experience with this place AFTER adopting my dog has just been terrible. We were initially told the vet there found a small lump on his hind leg and they were going to remove it the same day they were doing his neuter surgery and stated in a voicemail that it was going to be biopsied prior to my boyfriend and I picking him up. Fast forward about a week after that voicemail and his surgery, we go to pick him up and are given no update on the status of this lump they found so figured it wasn t anything we needed to worry about. Took him to our vet about a week later to get the staples removed from where the lump was taken out and our personal vet at VCA Briarcliff informs us that in the notes of his paperwork it said a lump was found but the humane society needed our permission to biopsy it and they were going to charge us $100 to do so. Both of those things were never mentioned in the voicemail I received and STILL have saved as proof, nor was it disclosed to us at the time of picking him up. It has been over 2 weeks now of my boyfriend and I calling the humane society leaving voicemail after voicemail about whether this lump they found was biopsied or not and I m livid because this could be something serious but of course once the animal is out of their shelter, obviously no longer their problem I guess.

This young lady at the front desk was so helpful to me during my visit. I was hurt that I to give up PeeWee as they re-named my adorable Rascal, miniature dachund mix miniature pinchure. Loved him but his first mom died and her son/daughter n law didn't live here. The young lady tried to give alternatives so I could keep my Rascal. Very empathetic and caring.

I have adopted from this place a few times, this is when they were still in the trailers. Went there yesterday looking for a kitten. Ended up finding a cat and dog we liked. Went to the front desk to let them know out selection, they said our names had to be put on the list to meet the animal which was not a problem, this is normal. Evidently we were number 6 on the list for an animal who no one was looking at. After a hour and a half we got bumped up to number 3 on the list. So we left and i couldn't help but wonder how many fur babies have missed out on their forever homes because of this foolishness smh i think they should've thought of manning before they built this humungous building (which is beautiful by the way)

The facility is very nice and all the staff and volunteers are wonderful. They really take the time to make sure pets are placed in the right "furever" homes. While it is always sad to see animals in a shelter, you can tell that the staff here do care about the animals and want them to find the right home. Animals seem to be well cared for and their kennels are kept clean.

JHS is a very well run and beautiful home for dogs and cats. It is very busy...pets are adopted in a very short period of time. They take very good care of them. If you are thinking of adoption this is a wonderful and caring facility

On June 8th 2017 I spotted a newborn kitty on the side of the road. It was pouring down rain and this little black kitten was all alone and terrified. I wrapped it up and tried to comfort it with tears rolling down my face. My heart was breaking for this orphaned animal yet I still had to get to work! I prayed so hard that the Humane Society would take this kitten and nurse it back to health and that it would find a loving home one day soon and be a spoiled lil kitty for the rest of its life. When I arrived at the Humane Society, they were closed but would open in 1 hour. So I took the kitten to my mother (so I could get to work) and she took it to the Humane Society where they welcomed it with open arms. This is one special kitty and I know without a doubt with help of the wonderful people at the Humane Society it WILL go on to live a long and happy life because this Kitty has God's hand on it :)
Thank You to the Jacksonville Humane Society! !

I trust my dog's life to the fine care and advice of the vets at this facility, and have for years. I have the wonderful advantage of them being only 1/4 mile from the front door, so we can walk to our appointments. Love the new fancy building they have erected, and glad to see the accommodations for the animals awaiting rehoming has taken a big step upward.

Very clean, and animals are very well taken care of. Employees are nice, but lied about my friends dog she had adopted. They said he was good with other dogs, but attacked her other dogs many times. She ended up having to take him back.

I can t even begin to say how much I loved being here for the Mutt March. The volunteer staff was so helpful when my store had to set up for the event. And seeing all the sweet puppers made me want to volunteer there.

I have adopted all but one of my kitties here and have never had a bad experience. Wait times can get long but that s to be expected due to how busy they can get. They really do amazing things for these animals and really care. The adoption process is so easy and their counselors are awesome. My only criticism is that the volunteers can be very rude sometimes. But the actual staff is amazing!

Just wanted to drop a good review. We adopted our dog just over a year ago and she has been such a blessing to us. We were very impressed with the facility and staff. We did the follow up for her heartworm treatment and they were so sweet and kind handling her.
