This place is compassionate, caring , loving and will do anything for their animals. I have adopted from here many times and will not from any place else. If you want a loving pet, please visit this place. You will not regret it.

This facility is top notch and well kept. The animal areas are remarkably clean and free of any foul odors. All of the animals appear to be very well cared for and it is obvious that the staff and volunteers are very attentive. Having the ability to meander through the facility freely is great. My ONLY issue is the waiting list to see an animal. Each time I've asked to see an animal I've waited for at least 30 minutes. The one thing that I appreciate more than anything is the Overnight stay option this saved me from making a bad decision.

Ehh... the front desk people could be MORE PROFESSIONAL!!! Very unprofessional... There were some already DISGRUNTLED people up there who were just trying to do the right thing and didnt have any information on the animals they rescued... but the front desk girl was very persistent and pushy.. even snapped at my wife when she walked in holding my dog... "YOUR gonna have to get outta here we have other dogs in stress. " Ok i understand this. But first off, there is a MORE PROFESSIONAL RESPECTFUL WAY OF DEALING WITH PEOPLE. Pink hair lady gotta go or yall gonna get more bad reviews from MILLENIALS. just a heads up.

Caring staff and volunteers combine their efforts to offer the best services to animals and their people here at the Jax humane society. Everyone was knowledgeable and happy to assist me with questions I had about adoptions. Animal care areas were clean.

Love their new facility, it's amazing! Staff is always great. I really like that you can visit and interact with the cats. As someone who is restricted as to have many pets to have (apartment). The cat visiting rooms are so nice.

The Jacksonville humane society is awesome they try to be a non-kill shelter as much as possible they provide the lowest cost veterinary services you could ever expect and they're definitely underfunded and under appreciated. Please go there to adopt when you want your next pet and please bring your pets there for their veterinary care and try to support them as much as possible. An excellent organization and as I said before definitely underfunded and underappreciated.

It very nice for a shelter... big rooms presay as opposed to tiny cages ...even the ones on the few cages they have they cages are very large and kept clean ..great staff ...we adopted a cat named Birdie

Beautiful, clean facilities for the dogs and cats. Kind, loving, and knowledgeable staff. Many of which are volunteers. Great therapy (for you and them) to just go and pet the animals. Our three year old was tickled pink to see each and every one (Great Daddy-Daughter free date!!). Also JHS has the best veterinary facilities in town bar none. Private practices are nowhere near as nice and cost twice as much. Seriously if you take your pet to any other vet in Jax you are paying more for less. Everything is brand new and state-of-the-art.

If you're going to adopt a dog, go in person meet the volunteers play with the pup! I adopted a year old puppy named Barron and had a perfect experience. I brought my dog and they did pet to pet for us and they informed me that Barron was on medicine and did everything perfectly! I'm forever grateful of this very polite and heartwarming crew and I will suggest them for years

Very very nice! They have a beautiful catery, dog adoption areas. Just breaks my heart seeing so many fur babies needing homes. DONATE, FOSTER / VOLUNTEER! Make it a weekly family outing.... greet these lonely fur babies, show them kindness and attention!! It all helps with socializing these pets to give them have a better chance at finding that perfect forever home!

Unorganized and overall a hot mess. Don't go there and expect assistance because they're understaffed and the ones they do have are always "busy" aka standing around corners chatting to one another and in the mean time while you wait patiently the animals you choose are already being adopted. You're better off getting a pet from your local crack head you'd probably get better service there. No wonder they're always full.

We adopted our new cat the beginning of March. The adoption process was great, everyone was very helpful and the facility is really nice. However, they need to do a better job vetting their animals. Our cat was listed as being 14 months old even though she weighed only 3 pounds. It was later confirmed by my vet that she was only 12 weeks old and extremely malnourished. Also, she came home with a horrible case of ear mites that three weeks later are still being treated as well as a fever and severe upper respiratory infection. While I would still go there to adopt and still would have selected the same cat, I wish they had provided a better medical history.

I appreciate being able to get my kitten spayed and neutered but I do wish they would show that they are helping cats not just dogs. All the information in the waiting room were for dogs. All information posted on the walls we're geared for dogs. You need to educate all pet owners not just dog owners.

Extremely unprofessional. We found a tiny kitten, called this place asking them to take her. The snarky combative college student that answered the phone, not only accused me of trying to dump my personal pet but their intake schedule is "conveniently" 2 months out! Almost all of the Humane Societies have turned over "intake" responsibilities to the local county shelters now AND the local shelter in Jacksonville-a non kill shelter...wants $200 to take a stray or surrendered animal! AND all the animals being dumped at vet clinics, the city/county is forcing these vets to house, feed and care for these abandoned animals or face legal ramifications, because they don't want them. The Humane Society has become a Low Cost Vet clinic that begs for donations, free money and free labor all while the CEO of The Humane Society makes a yearly salary of 4 MILLION dollars! It's Disgusting! Welcome to the new business of Corporate Charity. We took the kitten to a clinic, had her dewormed, vaccinated and verified that she was in good health and WE found a home for her. DO NOT donate to this organization, there is nothing humane about what they do now, there are lots of low cost vet clinics that actually pay their employees with no million dollar CEO's running the show.

My boyfriend and I adopted our cat from here in August and he is awesome! The problem is the vet. We have decided this is kind of a "Get what you pay for" situation, considering it is low cost. My cat had an upper respiratory infection within a week of having him. We brought him in, got antibiotics for him and we were on our way. We took him to the kennel over Thanksgiving and the lady pointed out that his eyes were really watery and seemed concerned. Back we went and the vet told us his tear ducts are probably scarred from having two respiratory infections before he was 6 months old (he had one before we got him). So, as we were leaving they told us we owed them money from a previous visit. They said we didn't pay them $10.00 from the last time we were there. Why would I pay everything but $10.00? Or why would they let me walk out owing $10.00? I just don't understand how that works. The receipt from that time had it crossed out in black which we showed them and the lady said "oh we will take care of it don't worry about it." On top of that being a little irritating, less than 24 hours of us bringing him in, he is sicker than a dog. The vet had listened to his chest and everything and said he was perfect other than some small tear ducts and now he is sicker than I have ever seen an animal before! We took him somewhere else and this vet just can't kick the infection so I tried to bring him back here considering they DID get rid of his sickness completely before, which is the important part. Now I am told I have to wait over 2 weeks and instead of it being $10.00 "I owe", it is now $20.00. I told the lady on the phone the price is different than last time and someone had said they were going to take care of it and not to worry about it last time and she in a rude tone "well it is more now and someone will be contacting you about it." Yeah, I got off the phone and instantly began searching for a different vet to take him too. Yes adopt your animals from here, but go to a different vet!

We adopted Alana aka Laney. The entire adoption process was easy and they answered all questions we had. From the time we arrived until we walked out took about two hours. The building and grounds were clean and well maintained. Volunteers/employees took great care of all the animals and even seemed to bond with some of them-including our fur baby!

A search for affordable veterinarian care & medication for my elderly grandmother's little dog (Chihuahua)is what led me here, and overall left me highly impressed with the amount of effort put forth here for improving quality of animal lives & promoting responsible pet ownership. Donating any unused pet items & volunteering time is greatly appreciated and tremendously helpful.

I had to make a very hard decision to surrender my cat I had for 6 years. That was a very hard decision for me, however the workers at jhs made me feel better about it. They was very supportive of my decision and understanding. The only reason I had to do this is because I am moving back up north and I'm unable to take her with me. Because I love my cat so much I felt surrendering her to jhs was for the best for I know they will care for her and find her a forever home that will love her as much as I do.

Nice

We adopted a senior dog that was heartworm positive in March . He was treated for it in June at JHS . The staff was so supportive and caring. Today, six months later I brought him in to have a heartworm test. It was negative. So wonderful. I want to personally thank Lisa. She was so compassionate and kind to our Spike. The results of the test were a true celebration, and Lisa made the news extra special with a lot of woo hoos and a special treat for our boy. Thank you , Lisa. Today was more than a great day, because of you.
Many Thanks,
Julie Cisson

Someone dropped off a pool for emaciated looking dog in our neighbor's yard. We knew our neighbor didn't get it because she was out of town for the week. My husband gave it food and water, then called neighbor to confirm. She said no way because she is scared to death of any dog. So the next morning, my husband put the dog in our car and took him to the Humane Society. They were not open yet but a young man took the dog anyway. We were so thankful because we live next to a very busy highway and we were afraid the poor dog would get run over. An awesome experience with this organization! I do recommend calling everyone to check the hours of operation before going there!

I surrendered my daughter's cat April 18, '18. I've called twice in those six days, asking how she is adjusting. I was told both times, one of which was just this afternoon, that she was scared and not doing well. I was told by "Destiny" that she wasn't moving, and that they were going to put her in a cat condo where she had more room (Duh!--ya' can't move if there is nowhere to move TO!) Let me say tho' that the comment was not intended for Destiny, as she was very helpful. Same conversation I was also told that "they" (behavioral staff) were also looking at a foster or rescue, as the poor cat was doing worse at their shelter. Her words. At this point I am wanting to have the cat back to spare her more suffering. This entire process has been heartbreaking for everyone. Even tho' putting her into my home would be a challenge, I knew the poor cat would know me and would do very well under my care. I Was told that I would need to go thru' the regular adoption process because it was after six days. Note----today IS the sixth day. I then asked to speak with a supervisor. "Oh, hold on a minute!". Put on hold, Destiny comes back and tells me that since the cat is still in the behavioral area, I could have her back as a "Return to Owner"----that I needed to call 493-4584 and they would help me. Yeah, right!? I immediately called, but "no surprise", no answer, so left a detailed message. This is the "good" part---I did get a returned call from "Adam". Guess what he said! Adam tells me that the cat I want back is getting ready to go into ADOPTIONS! Now you understand that this is the same cat that five minutes ago was immobile, and needed fostering before she could go into adoptions!?? Okay, now I want to know WHERE the cat is! Is she even alive?? Why all the contradictory information? I'm definitely getting the royal run-around by these supposedly professional, caring people! I want answers!! QUICKLY!

Update: Still no call back and now when I call it immediately hangs up like I'm blocked.

I have left 4 voicemails in the last two weeks trying to get information about owner surrenders. The recording says someone will return my call in 24 hours. How do you get in contact with anyone at this facility?

As you walk thru this humane society you can tell they truely care about all the animals there. Every staff member looked happy to help us with anything we needed. We came to take a dog out for the day and got Winchester who was an amazing and adorable dog. If you don't know about the program I highly suggest looking into it, you get dog supplies, leash and a loving dog to take out for the day. Not only do you get to spend time with a dog who needs loving but you also get it out for others to see the adoptable dog. Loved my experience with this place and can't wait to come back and take another dog out.

The Humane society has easy access to the animals and the interview/adoption process is great. They allow you to spend as much time as you need to spend with the animal of your choice as well.
