I have used the Humane Society as my dog's vet for the past 4 years. Aside from sometimes waiting for a long time, I've never had any issues with the vet care. They are great and compassionate. A few years ago I had a foster dog who was severely infested with heartworms when he was pulled from the shelter. After being with me for over 7 months and being completely clear of heartworms, he became weak and lethargic. I took him to the vet (no names) that the rescue group was using and was told there's nothing they can do and to basically stop trying to save him. Instead, I wanted a second opinion and took him to the Humane Society. I called ahead and when I pulled up three staff members were waiting curbside to bring him in on a stretcher. A team of vets and vet techs worked tirelessly to try to save him. When Manny unfortunately passed away three days later on a Sunday morning, the vet called me in tears. I can't imagine a more compassionate and caring place to take care of my pets. I am sad to see negative reviews as I can guarantee they have some of the lowest prices in town, some of the best staff, and when I do end up having a long wait, I know it's because they are busy caring for an emergency patient. I want to say thank you for everything you guys do for the animals in our community and surrounding areas!

They found me the perfect dog. Chance (formally columbo) is the best!

My only complaint is that the Dr's never want to take the time to talk to you and the front staff were not equipped to answer the questions I had about his heart worm treatments.
Also, they performed tests on Chance that I did not authorize and then charged me for them. While I appreciate them running tests to be safe it would have been nice to know I was going to have a larger bill. Also, they sent him home coveredddddd in poop.

Horrible customer service. On September 16th I placed a prescription (heart worm medication) refill for my dog. On the 28th I stopped by the Humane Society to pick up the medication. After waiting 10 minutes I was "greeted" at the desk by Suzy, where she asked me what I needed. I explained I needed to pick up heart worm medicine and that I had called it in a few weeks ago. 50 minutes later I finally received the medicine. After waiting nearly an hour for a prescription that was already called in, I vowed not to use the Humane Society again. I found a company online that is able to fill her medicine for less, however they need a prescription from the vet. The company has faxed the Humane Society everyday since the 24th, with no response. I have verified the fax number with both companies to ensure the fax is going to the correct place. The fax number is correct, however the Humane Society has not responded to any of the faxes. I have contacted the Humane Society and the lady I spoke with explained they have a new fax number, however the one she gave is the same one I verified with both companies. After 2 weeks of trying to contact the Humane Society and waiting nearly an hour to pick up a prescription, I still have not been able to get in touch with anyone at the Humane Society has been helpful.

Brought my wife and kids here to see about adopting a kitten or a puppy. Guess we took a wrong turn somewhere, ended up in the admittance area. Didn't even make it up the front ramp before I heard a ridiculous amount of cursing from a blonde lady working in the office towards several other people as she came outside after slamming a few doors. Needless to say, I turned around and took my family to a breeder instead. It's not the first time we've had problems here, either, but we would have preferred to adopt from a place where animals need a home. Make a few staff changes, and this facility could be awesome. Not very family-friendly at the moment, though.

This was the first time I've been since they built the new facility. It's very nice! The staff and volunteers were very helpful. We went to look at the dogs, hoping for a young dog. They have a lot of middle age & older dogs in need of a home. Wish I could take them all! Overall, very impressed with the new place & staff.

Amazing staff & facility! We fostered & then adopted our kitten from here. It was a wonderful experience! We were impressed by the dedication & compassion demonstrated by the staff, vets, volunteers & fosters. All strive to make sure every animal receives the best care possible & as much love & attention that can be given. A dedicated community of volunteers & fosters helps to care for the animals, but due to the overwhelming numbers of homeless animals they take in, they're always in need of more volunteers, fosters & donations. Adopting from and/or donating to the JAX Humane Society is a great way to make a real & meaningful difference in our community.

I used to love this place. Yesterday I went to pick up 2 kittens that lost their mama. The bill was $280.!!! For 2 kittens!!! Now hear me out...when I brought the kittens in to turn them over, they said that if we took them home we wouldn't have to pay anything to get them fixed. Cool! I can handle that. Well you can imagine my surprise when they handed me the bill. So no, I don't think they're great anymore!

These people are literal angels. I had my cat spayed here and they are extremely sweet about everything. Super understanding and flexible and caring and gentle and kind. I think their prices are the best you can find anywhere and that we should support this shelter until the end of time.

Poorly managed. It is sad to see so many decent people grow frustrated and leave without having the chance to adopt a pet in need. The wait is extensive around holidays and when they offer 'free' adoption. We went to another shelter and the service was excellent at Safe Animal Shelter- and just as many available pets for adoption. We would NOT return to this facility again.

Incredible shelter. Did a volunteer event with work. The place is huge and bright and beautiful. They have facilities to socialize and exercise the dogs and cat rooms where the cats get to hang out in groups and play and climb. When I am ready for another pet, I am going here.

Adopted a 3 months old kitten to find out the next day that she was infested with FLEAS, EAR MITES & had TAPEWORM. When we called to make appointment with vet service at humane society they told us they only do vaccinations and that we have to take her to another vet.
So disappointed!

The animals are sad to see sometimes because of their previous homes but from what i can tell the animals really love the staff and they try to keep the kennels as clean as possible, for cats they even have a play area you can walk into and play with the cats before you take them home. Just wish all the animals could find forever homes.

Yesterday I came and adopted a Doberman, he was in very rough shape when I arrived but was in high spirits. I told them I wanted to adopt him but was urged for a sleep over. They gave me a 5 day supply of cephalexin but as an experienced dog (and Doberman) owner I knew automatically this was not the correct treatment for him. I immediately found a vet willing to see him and we went straight from the humane society to the vets office. (this was paid out of POCKET, while he was still under JHS ownership I HAD NOT taken ownership over him yet!) Not only did he have fleas still, which was what had caused his skin issues but he has a plethora of other issues wrong with him that the humane society failed to treat him for. I was told he was a senior and he also is not. He s younger than that and I adopted a sick dog who was underweight and needed far more vet attention than he was being provided. Needless to say, I came immediately back to the humane society and adopted him right away after taking him to be seen at the vet. While doing so, I had provided the vet records to what was done while he was in my care to the adoption counselor and asked they wave the adoption fee consider I had just spent $300+ to make right what the humane society had failed to do for this poor dog. I also asked if they could have the dog evaluated and treated at their facility and that I would pay for it and they declined that as well!!! This was also asked of them before I took ownership. Of course as expected they declined and I had to pay for his adoption fee. Which may I add, I was expecting and was able to do from the beginning but had high hopes the humane society would make the right decision considering they had already adopted out this dog with a plethora of problems to a different family and when he was returned, they still decided they wanted another adoption fee for him while he still harbored the same health issues he was adopted with the first time!!! I will add, my adoption counselor was nice, but seemed over worked and stressed out. It was not this girls fault the decisions that were made on behalf of the dog. I urge this humane society to take better care of their animals especially if they are offered up for adoption.

Very nice and clean facilities. Staff is friendly and helpful. I've participated in the doggy day out program by taking a dog out of the shelter for the day. This is free and gives the dog some fresh air while showing people he is adoptable. I will say that if there is a dog or cat you are interested in, act immediately or you may regret not getting them.

Our daughters terrier mix she adopted is our baby. She and her two "siblings" are always treated with love and professionalism in spades!

The Manager at the hospital yelled at me for not being able to pay my cats medical bill (it was over 500) and told me i and one of 2 options, surrender him or get rid of him myself. I was flabbergasted. The staff at the hospital is unfriendly and rude. I will NEVER go their again. I was leaving in tears after that horrible experience. NEVER AGAIN!!!!

9/29 Free Spay Neuter was a huge success! I was only successful in trapping one of my kitties and was in line with way over 100 other caring people at 7am and was back home with him by 3:30! I am ever so grateful for this program being staffed with a ton of the most caring volunteers. I look forward to honing my trapping skills before the next session Sunday, October 27th. Thank You!!!

Just answer the phone sometime ?? Or start online scheduling ?

What an incredible facility for all these homeless animals! They are open 7 days a week and have so many volunteer and full time staff to help take care of the animals. They are treated very well and have on site vet with clinic hours to get pets spayed and neutered and up to date on vaccines. They play calming music for the animals in the adoption areas and there is always a steady flow of people coming, going, helping, and adopting.

Sweet volunteers helped me find a kitty that made the best addition to my family. They have plenty of animals and you can browse at your leisure. I went during a free adoption weekend so the wait was about two hours for an adoption counselor, but well worth it. Danielle was amazing (a tad biased since my name is Danielle too) and answered all my questions since I m a first time adopter. I got a free bag of kitten food and the litter she used and only paid $7 for a cardboard carrier. Please donate as the facility is non profit and runs on donations. I made a donation I felt they deserved since I really paid nothing for my new baby girl.

Really clean and nice. Animals look well cared for. I went with a friend who thankfully decided not to get the dog, he's in ICU so he couldn't care for him. His deposit/payment (?) was returned to him. Definately if you want a pet go here. Wished I could have gotten an older cat there, but my kitty would of thrown a fit. lol

We surrendered a dog Amelia because the last time ...

We surrendered a dog Amelia because the last time she attacked she almost killed our dog and injured 3 people. We were told by the vet that since it was a weekend we would need to go surrender her back to the humane society and their vet would humanly put her down. Now she s posted for adoption as friendly and good with people and dogs. She has some kind of seizures you ll never expect it but all of the sudden she will just attack. The humane society has been informed. Please don t let your family be the next victim it s been a lot of dr bills and thank God no serious injuries. Her jaws lock down and we ve had to use three grown men to get her off finally by chocking her. She has attack on 3 other occasions since she was adopted in May of 2017 and it s not the same a single time. She will end up killing someone s pet or even a kid.

I love the new building. The new facility was amazing and a great place for homeless animals. They try to make it as comfortable for the animals as possible. They have little buckets on the doors for treats for the dogs so you can interact with them. Breaks my heart to see homeless animals, but makes me feel better knowing they are in good care.

I received a call back to make an appointment after leaving a voicemail on a day they were closed. My dog needs to see a doctor for her diarrhea. I ve been to two different facilities that did not give her the care she needs; Tinseltown animal clinic and Alta Bluff animal hospital. They were dismissive and the problem still remains. So I turned to this facility because I was familiar with them. I asked the lady for a appointment and she asked why. She then said I need to get her to a facility sooner because diarrhea can cause dehydration. I don t think she understood, even though it was said, I have been taking her constantly to a vet including altering her diet to something bland. Anyway, so I told the lady could I get a consultation if something. She said she had no availability until after April 20. I said okay, I ll take it. And she replied but I can t schedule it four weeks out..... If I can be frank that was one of the dumbest conversations I ve ever had. She went through all that just to tell me no, what a waste of time. I really wish people cared about the pet instead of the money.

This establishment is not only small as heck when you walk in (if you can find a parking space)but the front desk receptionists were not very nice or accommodating. We went to the Norwood location (what a drive)!!!!! The whole experience was horrible but the only plus is that they spay/neuter feral animals for free. Oh, and to top it all off,it's like none of the staff communicate with each other. So if you're broke or have a huge heart for animals(strays) like me, I would recommend looking around for another clinic!!
