We arrived to the sight of the river Severn in full flood and a fire engine sitting outside the pub. Was this a bad omen - a problem with river water in the kitchens, perhaps? In any instance, something was wrong, because we arrived well More

Rooms are way overpriced. In many rooms the showers barley work and after raising the problem numerous times the management couldn't care less. Some rooms are also very hot and noisy. All this could be forgivable if the price is right but it adds insult to injury when the price is so high.

Went for afternoon tea. The food itself was alright, especially the scones. Service was poor. We were shown to our table, presented with the food and a pot of tea. And that was it, never spoke to any of the waiters or waitresses again! Also, to be fair, the whole place looks tired. Needs a refurb.

Overall, pretty average

The staff were friendly and helpful and the starter was nice, hence the two stars. They should've devoted more of them to a party of thirty though, in order to serve us at roughly the same time.
The mushroom risotto tasted overwhelmingly of cheese, which explains how they managed to get it to the consistency of glue without cooking the rice properly. I like a bit of texture in a risotto, but that was ridiculous. Whilst it wasn't stupidly expensive, at that price I'd expect a dish at least as good as the version I make at home, or pop in the microwave after a trip to Tesco. The parmesan crisp that accompanied it could be recreated at home by scraping out the grill pan after making cheese on toast. Despite all this I was grateful for my choice when I saw the state of the vegetables that came with the lamb shank.
In fairness, the food we passed in the main restaurant looked more substantial and appetising, but then I don't suppose that it matters that we wouldn't go back once a bill of that size has been settled.

We had an excellent Sunday Lunch in the Drawing Room. Everything about the lunch was lovely. The room itself looked over the River Severn to the older bridge. The staff we're attentive and not over bearing and of course the food was delicious.

Roast dinner was excellent with the exception that I thought the beef was a little overcooked. It was not served pink rather just cooked well. Some of the best roasties I've had outside of my own home however and the bonus that along with gracy and Yorkshire they are unlimited included in the price is great! Good atmosphere and more casual bar with tables if you don't want the "posh" experience. Service is good although at times a little unnattentive. We asked for. Our table to be wiped and it wasn't done so we had to ask a second time. Overall will definitely recommend for roast. Perhaps for more of a nice occasion. The armoury currently has the best roast imo.

Great pub and restaurant with excellent customer service and food. I love the portion size, but some people can find them a bit on the large size so if you have small appetites don't order too much, but whatever you have the quality will be great.

I phoned to clarify that dogs to stay and was originally told no, which would have been fine but then the person on the phone was overruled by someone behind them and I was told they could stay in a courtyard room. These rooms are not as More

Stunning food. The menu prices might look a bit high but the portion sizes more than justify it - you won t leave hungry.

Top tip: If you re wanting the 32oz tomahawk steak (to share!), I suggest skipping the starters. And lunch, frankly. Even breakfast would be ill-advised if you re not an experienced eater.

Very friendly and helpful staff, the room we were using for a christening was lovely, although the doorway in seemed like a staff entrance, not elegant like the rest of the space. Food was good but not exceptional, but it was just a hot buffet. All in all a good experience.

Went there for a family lunch. Thought the menu and drinks options were really good as was the kids menu. Again the service was really good. Mine and the little ones food were really good however my partners food wasnt the best. The tempura which was one of the main elements of her dish was overcooked and quite floury.

Possibly THE best Sunday roast in Shropshire, good portion sizes, nice selection of roasts, plenty of veg and the staff are always happy to help and make your experience top notch. You can tell that the management and staff take pride in the resteraunt and want you to keep coming back for more.

Ate here with family. Gorgeous property and lovely setting. But the food was super salty. Had a game pie with chips and veg and all aspects were over salted. Very dissapointed. Other members also found their food salty aswell.

Was in much need of some good food late one evening passing through shrewsbury and boy did we get it. We arrived late and was lucky enough to be seated in the bar area, all staff were very keen to cater for us despite it being late and near closing time. We both decided to order the pie of the day. As you can imagine, we werent expecting the best of what the chef had to offer. Maybe a dimmed down reheated version of the original. I couldent be more wrong. We recieved two giant pies a side of beautiful hand cooked chips...lets not forget the veg- Unfortunaley this was the last to be eaten given the portion size was reminiscent of the pies that dandy (beano) used to eat.

We sat, we ate, we smiled. Thanks again for the wonderfull meal.

Ate here on three different occassions, on the first the place was full of flies which dived on to our plates. On the second occassion food that should have been hot was cold and yesterday I was served luke warm coffee in a cup that had a black crack from its lip to base and my friend was expected to use a cup that she had used two hours previously! Leaving the building to the car park; which has gigantic water filled potholes we almost had an accident because there is an eletric lead across the door way on TOP of the mat. A real trip hazard. I could not recommend the Myton and Mermaid to anyone.

I stayed here for business. Stayed in a single room, was quite a cosy room and facilities like the shower despite showing their age worked effectively. Perfectly pleasant and friendly staff. Only had breakfast which was great. Perfect eggs Benedict!
