Stopped in here before going to the ballet. Certainly not cheap, but really the perfect place for a civilized bite to eat & drink before a performance.
Stopped in here before going to the ballet. Certainly not cheap, but really the perfect place for a civilized bite to eat & drink before a performance.
Lunch. The wine was off. Californian Sauvignon Blanc . Clearly from an opened bottle I didnt complain because I was treating a guest who was a non-drinker and didnt wish to create a scene. My fish stew tasted good but had very little fish in it and was overpriced. My guest said the portions were very small for the price. She was spot on . Very disappointing
This restaurant's perfect - incredible food and service, great atmosphere and cosy nooks and crannies for a private dining experience. The swordfish, fish pie, creamed greens are some of my favourites. Great wine selection too. Looking forward to you reopening!
Good service and tasty food. Especially good value for money in the atlantic bar!
Like our taxi driver said on the way in from the airport 'Best fidh and chips in London'
Fish amazing in this restaurant. Smoked eel.. Try it!
We ate here on a Sunday night and the atmosphere was so soothing. Unfortunately we had booked the table in the hope to have mussels but we were informed that they no longer served mussels. However we did opt for the Cornish Monk fish steamed mussels, nduja & fregola broth and were not disappointed, topped off with a beautiful bottle of white. Looking forward to returning.
Great food and service. Try the Kentish sparkling wine
Seafood Fresh and delicious. It is rich in that sauce that seems to mix ketchup and mayonnaise. I spent a lot of money, but I ate it really good. I think it's about 100 pounds for a champagne cezana, a seafood plate, an oyster, and a caviar.
A very wonderful sea restaurant with a small and small dish
Had a surprise anniversary dinner here which was wonderful. Great service, the freshest oysters and nice (though a bit dated) decor.
Oyster bar atmosphere is fine ~
Two seafood platters, two bottles of wine, three of them each weighing more than 35 pounds.
The best restaurant in London. The best oysters in the world. Special thanks to Tania for her excellent service and attention.
An unforgettable experience.
Classic London restaurant. I have been a number of times and never had a bad meal. Not crazy expensive for London and always fantastic service and fantastic food. Won't be long until I go again
This was amazing. Great seafood, beautiful service, and the decor was tasteful and a little fancy, the move sort of fancy. Highly recommend a visit for a special occasion or just cos.
Incredible selection of seafood; I tried each of the Oysters as a starter and the seafood tikka Misala for the main course, both of which were phenomenal. Great selection of wines as well.
High quality seafood, was very impressed. Ate the platter which had tuna cerviche, prawns, clams, mussels, whelks and oysters. All delicious. Partner has the fish pie which was very tasty. Would recommend both dishes.
We sat in Atlantic bar and was very chilled. Food was served at a reasonable time although not sure why they didn't offer to take our costs yet for everyone else they did
Proper sea food dishes, but also a really tasty surf 'n turf fillet. Skilled waiters. Good wine. Delicious dessert. Nice location. A bit expensive of course.
I never tire of this restaurant and always enjoy the food. Not particaulrly comfortable and tables are too close together but really well prepared fish and seafood dishes which are consistently good and often absolutley delicious.
As always... Great!!!! ...Daisy really makes this an experience , which brings me back time after time.....Courteous, friendly and genuine. Superb member of staff
Now for the food.. No complaints. Great.
Food was so excellent we ordered seconds! If you like seafood this place is a classic. Will def go back!
Smoked mackerel souffle was just the best starter. Desert was the most banging apple crumble profiteroles with cinnamon ice cream. Worth giving the chairs a shout out too; super comfortable. Service was as expected of a restaurant of this standard. Will be back for that souffle for sure.
Very nice food. We haf the burger and fish pie. The tempura oysters are amazing.
The staff is ver attentive and well trained so you will be very well taken care off.
Will be there soo
Outstanding food and drink. The oysters were superb, as were our other food choices and a wonderful wine. Sitting outside, as the theatergoers hustled to beat the curtain and the daylight waned, was a very romantic atmosphere. The only drawback was the slow service, including waiting 40 minutes for the check (and having to request it twice), as our server was spread desperately thin over far too many tables. Would have been 5 stars otherwise
One of the best seafood dinners I've ever had, rivaling some glorious experiences I had in Portugal, Spain or Sardinia.
I had never had oysters and was born away by the quality of the ones they serve for a very reasonable price.
Four of us had lunch there today - 2nd July 2019. It had come highly recommended but all four of us were disappointed. One of us had lemon Dover sole, which she said was tasteless. Another had sea bream or something and she said it was dry and over cooked. My husband had oysters, which were fine, I had crab with a mayonnaise type sauce that was not enough for the crab. We had a few side dishes including baby potatoes that were undercooked. The portions were very small and it was absolutely not good value for money. We usually go to the Oysterman which is much better value for money, so we will definitely not return to Sheekey.
It was a wonderful evening with friends very dear to our hearts, a delight, everything was perfect, excellent cuisine, delicious wines, recommended if you like seafood and fish, go with your eyes closed !! !!
Excellent as always!
My wife and I went to the Atlantic Bar pre-theatre, which they checked on conformation and served us accordingly. Service is very friendly, polite and engaging, though they were very busy so didn t stand around making lots of small talk.
Good cocktails, good selection of wines by the glass, though the drinks service was a little slow.
Ask to sit at the counter if you re there as a couple, it s a really great setting, particularly round the far side of the bar where you can watch the kitchen at work.
Seafood institution in the heart of the west end, perfect to get your fish fix. It doesn't come cheap but it is very good quality (those oysters ) and the staff are friendly and knowledgeable (shout out to the guy who talked me through eating a crab!)
Nice selection of white wines, including a fresh and zesty vinho verde, but the prices go skyward very quickly.
The only disappointment was the scallops, their delicate flavour was completely overpowered by the accompanying sauce which was mainly chorizo.
Be careful which place you book: the Atlantic bar has a very different menu to the restaurant. I booked the wrong one but they were kind enough to let us order lobster from the restaurant anyway.
I''ve been to Sheekey's lots of times before. This was definitely the worst experience. I was crammed into a corner and bumped into by the waiting staff at least a dozen times as they served the table next to me. One even stood on my foot.
The food was mediocre - I had turbot which was overdone and dried out.
Friendly staff, Serving faster than you think .. If you order without thinking, you will be amazed at the high price.
Really I don't understand why this place is ranked so high. The lobster or wasn't fresh or was bad made, almost no meat in the claw and what was in the claw was raw, while the piece in the lobster itself was overcooked.
Service is pushy plates will be removed while you aren't even finished.
1 Additional star for the great scallops as a starter but the rest of the food. I had better at other seafood places in London for better prices.
Oh and there is also an unexpected cover charge besides the normal service charge.
Food is really a 5 out of 5 but service is a disaster. We first waited for a menu for 30 minutes, then for an hour for starters and for desert wine another half an hour. I mean it s just unacceptable.
Great seafood . Definitly the best resturant to open till midnight in London
What's not to love? Assuming you like fish, that is! Great service, Excellent food, not too expensive (it's not cheap though) we regularly test ourselves with a visit.
Trendy, elegant and stylish seafood restaurant, food and service are consistently of a high quality, always busy - definitely a London institution
Not just the best seafood restaurant I've ever been to, but best restaurant full stop. The food was an absolute luxury. We ordered the seafood platter, and you could taste the freshness in every bite of the seafood. I had the haddock for main which was equally amazing, and that made-in-house tartare sauce was actually out of this world, that's how good it was. The only negative I can point out was that my partner's vegetarian dish- the linguine was a little too oily. But my goodness what an amazing restaurant. I hope to be back for our next special occasion. I also hope to get dessert next time too! The service was immaculate also.
Great fish restaurant! Very easy to see why it has been successful for so long! Good fish, excellent service.
Order the fish pie, and a glass of Chablis. Thank me later.
Lovely. Fish curry was really nice, had some good starters and sides too
Sad to say but it has gone downhill. The glory days are over. It s full of spivs. Service was oleaginous but I had to ask 3 times for my drink. So sad. Its a place for rich tourists now.
Amazing place, ordered a fish and chips, the dish was excellent, the service was very good even being full.
First time to J.Sheekey.
What a gorgeous spot.
So much atmosphere can see why it's so popular.
Had the famed Fish Pie, well worth the price of admission
Highly recommended
We got oysters in here. Good if you have constipation.
Others are not worth mentioning.
Best seafood and fish restaurant! Good food and attentive staff. One of the old restaurant that still keeps its standard.
To keep the place intimidate, no photographs or use of mobile phone is allow. Don't be naughty like me as there was no customer near us, I took a sneeky picture to promote this place as my hobby.
Highly Recommend
For fresh and nicely prepared seafood one must go to J Sheekey. I usually go with friends and we order the grilled fish platter to share and everyone orders whatever else they like. The ambiance is very nice and the staff is friendly.
Fantastic seafood restaurant in the heart of 'Theatre land'.
Top Class the staff and service at J Sheekey are above the rest. The food is incredible along with the presentation and quality.
"Historic" sea food restaurant, the halibut steak is delicious. Usually always a seat at the bar available for business travelers who need a quick quality bite
I had forgotten how wonderful their food is! Good service. Great location. Not cheap but worth it!
Positives
- Great ambience with an old-fashioned feel (been around since 1896)
- Fantastic and efficient service
- Varied seafood menu including market fish, specials, shellfish, crab, caviar
- Lots of outside covered seating
- Vegan and vegetarian menu available
- Phenomenal non alcoholic drinks - try the Spicy Breeze!
- The fish pie is rich and comforting
Negatives
- Small portion sizes
- Tight space between tables unless you get a booth
- Unimaginative starters
- Busy, busy with pre-theatre crowds between five and eight in the afternoon
Absolutely amazing!!! The oysters are to die for!! A must visit!! 10/10 beautiful staff just the most wonderful experience! I am already planning my next visit!
Tasty dishes and great location, but only 3 stars as the dishes are tapas style tiny at mains meal prices.
Fabulous food and service. Highly recommend this restaurant.
Love this place. Always always the platter. Never dissapointed.
Excellent service, outstanding food. Love this place
good pre or post theatre. better than its famous sibblings.
Nice seafood restaurant in London. Casual but has character!
Fantastic experience. The turbot for 2 was grilled to perfection and all sides tasted very Google's. I was particularly fond of the tomato salad. Great bread too. The service was very friendly.
J Sheekey has been my favourite restaurant in London for many years and having seen the way they have strived to make things as perfect as ever since opening after the lockdown, it has only cemented their brilliance in my opinion. The ever brilliant, ever charming and ever consciousness team there, Ludo, Joel, Cedric, Luigi, Tim, Daisy, have gone above and beyond to make us all feel safe and welcome. I myself have noticed absolutely no glitches but I would ask fellow diners that in this time have patience and kindness. We are all doing our best in a very changed and somewhat frightening world but the J Sheekey team have and wont fail to disappoint. Bravo to you all and thank goodness the food is as good as ever.
Amazing food and service. 1920s style decoration and a lovely ambience.
One of the best seafood restaurants in London I think. The staff are perfect. The inside buzzes, especially around the seafood bar. The food is exceptional. A fantastic standard for other restaurants to aspire to.
Great atmosphere, very friendly and helpful staff, great selections of oysters.
Great service and attention to detail. Great food. Really well cooked. Felt very well looked after.
This I cant fault. Yes it is expensive but you cant fault it on any scale. They have great staff and the food is fresh, amazing fresh seafood.
Once a wonderful place to visit now remarkably poor. Now even a good selection of fresh fish.
It's a traditional establishment, where several well-known faces have dined as can be seen by the array of photos on the wall and that is the main selling point. The service was good, attentive and helpful but the food was mediocre. We had More
Lovely atmosphere and fabulous wine selection. Sadly I'm vegetarian, so didn't get to try any of the fish dishes that they're famous for, but their vegetarian selection was broad and the food was delicious!
