If I had to break down, Albuquerque is one of my favorite places. Spent the day in old Town and started with a wonderful taco salad for lunch at Church Street Cafe. I don't know how I've missed this place in the past but I will not make that mistake again. Located in one of the oldest buildings in New Mexico, there is a patio out both front and back and several rooms inside that are very nice and cozy looking. The back patio has a nice little garden courtyard feel with a waterfall. While a taco salad is a simple dish to rate a restaurant on, if they can make the simplest dish seem delicious then you can guess the rest. The salad was fresh and the taco meat was plentiful and perfect, just right on the seasoning and not overly greasy. The service from Arturo and staff was attentive and friendly. Great atmosphere, great food and great service. The trifecta! I usually like to try deferent places but I may have to go back for dinner. Recommended!
Nice atmosphere and service but the food is bland for out of state tourist not up to New Mexico quality
Excellent restaurant located in Old Town. I ordered the blue corn cheese enchiladas with Red chili; delicious! The sides were pinto beans and squash both were excellent.
My husbands food was spicy and tasteful. He got enchiladas. I however got tacos and everytjing was bland :/. The meat tasted unseasoned. My rice was hard and dry and also had no seasoning. Also our waitress appeared to be having a bad day and was just plain rude.
The food is good per the norm.
We did carry out today. We ordered steak fajitas. Upon opening the food at home, we discovered there were no accoutrement with the fajitas... no sour cream, no guacamole, no pico de gallo, no lettuce and no cheese included in the fajita carry out! All the things you really need to builds the fajitas. Really disappointed with the incomplete order and lack of preparation for our carryout order! Hopefully we'll receive better service next time.
Ate there this morning 8//9/15 GROSS! The patio and atmosphere is great but the Food and Service is Horrible! I from Albuq. and thats not New Mexican food! I wouldn't give it to the dogs. Like I said Food and Service is horrible... Zero stars
Amazing food and service! Sopapillas are to die for
Only downside is no alcohol. Just wine and beer, but no tap/just bottled.
ABSOLUTELY LOVED THE FOOD!!! There service was kinda iffy (guy seemed new) but the food exploded in your mouth with tons of flavor!! We got the chicken tacos with rice and beans, old fashioned Chile rellenos, and pork tamales! All worth the money!!!
Very nice place, nice staff and relaxed atmosphere. I didn't find the food exceptional, maybe I was unlucky (I ordered the dish with local mix). Good beers.
Nice enough ambience... But typically ordinary coffee. They should bring in an Australian barista.
Pozole was delicious. Will definitely go back when in town.
The food was very, very good: 3 shredded beef tacos with refried beans, Spanish rice and potent red chili sauce. The ambiance was delightful and cool on a hot Albuquerque day. Wonderful artifacts, comfortable seating, and good service.
Was very disappointing since i had called early and was guaranteed a private room for 13 but was put on big dining room and was very uncomfortable sitting on wall seat and our waitress was terrible food also was not great .this was first for some of us and celebrating a b.day anyway we won't be back and would not recommend for dinner.
The food was fine--for it alone I normally would give four stars. However, we arrived at 8:05am and never got our food until 9:20am. I had to beg someone to even take our order to begin with as our table was passed over and over again. My coffee was never refilled and they messed our bill up and and had to redo it again. I understand it was busy with the March for Our Lives day; however, they seemed very understaffed. I'm not sure if we'll return again.
One of the best places to grab a bite to eat for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Plenty of space for larger parties, and don't forget that patio!!! Love having breakfast out on the patio, atmosphere and birds is perfect for a relaxing breakfast. You can also hang out on the patio for lunch or dinner. Dinner is great on the patio, with lights and ambiance to add to the great food!
This was my family's house from 1700's until the 1990's My Grandmother Bernadita Ruiz (King) was born there to Sara Ruiz. My family and this amazing 300 years old adobe home is perfectly commemorated and celebrated with awesome food, welcoming "new" owners, and super professional staff.
Good service, friendly, clean, a must see historic site when on the I40. The food was ok, we had the Pueblo Burger... no buns, they sub the buns for Indian Fry bread. It tasted like a hamburger on a funnel cake. The portions are big and filling.
The food was really good and affordable! Service was friendly and the place has a vibe of it's own that makes in enjoyable just to be there.
Old Town institution! Get your genuine authentic New Mexican cuisine right here. The food is delicious, and the service is prompt.
Good food and Old World charm . We try to stop here every time we visit Albuquerque .
Went in just before 1PM based on a bus driver's recommendation; there were lots of people already, with many more showing up over the next 30 minutes. Don't be fooled by the look of the place from the front: I was expecting 5-6 tables total, but there are at least 40 along the long hallway and 4 rooms of various sizes. It used to be a residence, and the structure itself is interesting.
Went for the old fashioned chili rellenos, as I like to try dishes that aren't easy to find back home. Wonderful all around, and a good portion of food. You also get chips and salsa as you are deciding.
Waiter was a great guy, making sure everything was OK even though they were slammed with the amount of customers.
First time here, and we will definitely be back! It's our first time to sample New Mexican cuisine, and we loved it all. We got the burrito with pork and red chili (fantabulous) and the combination plate with chili relleno, tamale, and cheese enchilada all with green chili (yummy)! Now for the delicious sopapillia!
Food and service were fantastic.
Local beer was good too.
The huevos rancheros were very good. The beans, though, seemed like can beans.
If you are looking for something special and romantic on a budget this is the place for you. Not only in historic Old Town where there's so much to do. This is real authentic New Mexican food. The portions are quite large so you may want share a meal here. Dont let the front of this building fool you, it's a hole in the wall place but as you enter the building extends further to the back into a room where there is a fireplace and then further out to a beautiful outdoor patio. This is a great place to enjoy year round. The fireplace does actually get used in the winter months. And the patio well its green and lush, completely unexpected just from looking at the front of the building. There are no alchohol beverages here; however, I did recently hear of a drink made out of agave that I will be trying the next time I'm there.
We love the patio! The chile is authentic and delicious, and the staff know what they re doing.
cute place that someone referred us to. great food and great service. felt very authentic too
Love this place. Great atmosphere awesome Chile! Drinks very very good!
It's what you imagine when you say let's stop and have a meal in New Mexico ..
My favorite place to eat when visiting old town Albuquerque! Every time I m in town I bring several of our travelers here. We are tour directors and we find a place we love... we come back!
Food was good, good value. Flexibility lacking, would not substitute rice for french fries on a kids meal (this *is* a Mexican restaurant, right?) so we asked for a side of rice ($3) and the kid takes two bites. They apparently have a private patio out back so don't let the front one put you off. Good finish to our trip to NM.
Food wasnt that good. Dry chicken. Burnt tortillas for enchiladas. A friend ordered menudo and immediately rejected for tasting nasty.
Amazing place once you step inside. Beautiful! Everything was great except our server. You could tell he was not having a good day and his service showed that. Food was great overall. Would have loved to have a sopapilla like every table around us, but he never offered. On another day I am sure the service would have been great.
Was here today...so excited to try the food, but ended up leaving without eating! I'm sure is food is good, but our waitress was awful. Left us sitting at the table with no chips and salsa or drink refills for an hour, and I totally understand that it's busy and takes time but she did nothing to make our experience any better. So we returned today to try the food & it was delicious! Much better service as well. If your in NM stop in and try the food...you won't be disappointed
The best place to enjoy authentic Mexican food at its finest! Very affordable and the setting is quite reminiscing. :)
It is rare to see a restaurant with 4+ stars with over 1,200 reviews and especially in a tourist area. This cafe is in a quaint old building and the age shows both inside and out. I would describe it as rustic but not shabby. We started with chips, salsa, and queso. The salsa and queso had a nice balance of spice and flavor and perfectly danced that narrow line between too mild and too hot. I had the red chile roasted pork and my wife had enchiladas. Both were absolutely delicious and washed down with some well mixed adult beverages. The service was perfect. Our server was attentive but not a pest. We will be back.
The meal was awesome, it has a homemade style so definitely I will come back. Also Ginger, the waitress whom took care of us, was incredibly sweet. Highly recommend this place!
Wonderful place! Ask to sit in the big room, gorgeous fireplace! Wonderful service, will eat here every time I visit.
Charming, good food and service. The Carne Adovada is fabulous! Our only disappointment was not having a full bar, but there is a nice selection of beer and wine.
Best New Mexican food. Great service and a cozy dining experience. Will be coming here again when we visit Albuquerque.
Great food. Very nice atmosphere. Staff are wonderful, especially Tony and Teri!!!!
Good food. Nice New Mexico atmosphere. Service from our particular waitress was great, but another waitress was rude to us during our visit.
The chile relleno is incredible. Cool, rustic atmosphere. If I'm ever back in Albuquerque, I will eat there again for sure.
Friend and I shared sirloin fajitas...delicious and large offering. Great marguerita.
The food was amazing, atmosphere was really nice, and the place itself has beautiful art. The only downside was the service. Our waitress wasn't very good at checking on us.
What a fantastic decor. The food automatically tastes better because the interior is so pretty must-try the watermelon refresher. Friendly staff
Amazing service for our party of 6 today. Great gluten free options for gluten sensitive people (not sure for celiacs). I enjoyed the gluten free steak fajitas and they were the best I've ever had. We all loved the food! Such a neat historic building too.
Service is great, food was great but the best is the outdoor patio. The waterfall and wonderful weather made for a great little escape.
Always stop by here on the way to the airport. Tasty cuisine and fast and friendly service.
Our favorite restaurant. Love the Q salad and the iced BlackBerry green tea
Pueblo burger is great. Service was fantastic. A lovely place for a meal in old Town. Highly recommended.
OMG!!! This place is amazing. Built in the 1700s, amazing building that you must see, then the food... excellent! My personal favorite in the whole state of New Mexico!
Make sure to check out the neighborhood too. It's a great place to take a date or your family
Such a cool hole in the wall place with the best New Mexican food.
Delicious food. Wait staff usually terrific. Had a not so friendly waitress on Saturday, September 23, when I brought two friends visiting from Michigan here for supper. Waitress was curt, left the table before we were finished talking to her. Wouldn't bring the sopapillas when we wanted them. It was not pretty. I doubt my friends well ever eat there again.
Great service, good food, live music from hilarious Mariachi's
Was sooo popular, they were completely over run. 45 minute wait. Poor service, food ok. And we visited late September....
It's ok service but they are not as serviceable when they need to,not too accomodating.
Breakfast used to be good, seems like they cutting corners.
Surprising place, from the outside it looks like a simple coffee, when I entered I was amazed by the structure, excellent service, I do not give it 5 stars because the stuffed chili was not a chili itself, just the shape
But the roast, it was delicious
Super economic
Fantastic restaurant in Old Town, Albuquerque, New Mexico for Mexican food. It is an Adobe house that was built in the 1800's and later turned into a restaurant. Great service. Also sells some Indian jewelry (Native American).
Authentic, delicious food. Lovely atmosphere, great service and on a slow evening; iffy service during a hectic lunch hour two days later.
The service was not great but the food made up for it.
Over the years with groups, alone, and with a close friend or two, CSC has always been a sure thing. Want to introduce a visitor to genuine NM cuisine? CSC is the place. Need to just relax and have a great breakfast with a little red and green? CSC is there for you. How about a patio experience with friends for food and drinks? CSC is charming. Clearly, I'm a fan, and it's easy to be a fan when the food is exceptional, service good, and environment historical and calming. Visitors, don't miss this place, locals, don't forget this gem.
Delicious food and great service. Mike is a great server.
Church Street Cafe - A Place to Savor the Best of New Mexico Cuisine
If you're looking for a cozy and welcoming cafe that serves authentic New Mexican cuisine, look no further than Church Street Cafe. Located in the heart of Old Town Albuquerque, this charming restaurant has been serving up delicious food and warm hospitality for over 30 years.
The History of Church Street Cafe
The building that houses Church Street Cafe dates back to the early 1700s when it was built as a hacienda-style home. Over the years, it served as a residence for various families and even housed a brothel at one point. In the 1970s, it was converted into a restaurant by owner Marie Coleman who wanted to create a space where people could come together over good food and conversation.
Today, Church Street Cafe is still owned by Marie's family who have continued her legacy of providing excellent service and traditional New Mexican dishes made with fresh ingredients.
The Menu at Church Street Cafe
One of the highlights of dining at Church Street Cafe is their extensive menu which features classic New Mexican dishes like enchiladas, tamales, chile rellenos, and posole. All their dishes are made from scratch using locally sourced ingredients whenever possible.
But what really sets them apart is their famous salsa which has been voted "Best in Albuquerque" multiple times. Made with roasted tomatoes, garlic, onions, cilantro, and just enough heat from green chiles - this salsa is addictive!
In addition to their regular menu items, they also offer daily specials like carne adovada (pork marinated in red chile sauce) or calabacitas (a vegetarian dish made with squash).
Atmosphere & Service
Walking into Church Street Cafe feels like stepping back in time with its adobe walls adorned with colorful artwork and rustic wooden beams overhead. The space is cozy yet spacious enough to accommodate groups both large and small.
But what really makes this place special is its friendly staff who go out of their way to make you feel welcome. Whether you're a regular or visiting for the first time - they treat everyone like family.
Conclusion
If you're looking for an authentic taste of New Mexico cuisine served up with warm hospitality - look no further than Church Street Cafe. With its rich history dating back centuries combined with delicious food made from scratch - it's no wonder why locals keep coming back year after year.
