I am 3rd year apprentice, switching to online class has been tough not being able to get the hands on experience. IEC is a great school, Cal Blair was definitely the best part of my experience. This is a school that cares for their students. Thank you guys for everything you have done for us.
Despite covid-19 and unable to go into school. Online has been pretty good and they tutoring has been very helpful. Second year student
It's pretty sad to see this school, just like my old college, do the same things. Which is worry about money and trying to be at the top of the schools. It's very sad to see this school do the same exact thing and actually still be running as a "school". I would suggest going to a different school where they actually teach and not let you pass your tests because it makes them look better. Even the teacher who works with the school is a joke. This school is easier than my freshman year at high school. This school is a sideshow that belongs in the zoo.
A high integrity group of people. Generally one of the best values in a trade education you are likely to find in Denver at the moment.
I have enjoyed the teachers during my two years of electrical apprenticeship schooling. The facilities at the Northglenn campus are modern and inviting, and the transition to online classes due to COVID worked well.
Some lessons are shotty, and first year teaching teacher was a struggle but learned a lot
Typical school. Everyone is forced to buy overpriced books. I already had some of the materials, but they said I had to buy all or nothing. It would have cut my materials cost by about 1/3. That's nothing unique, just the status quo for education. It's still wrong though.
I like my teacher.
Covid obviously forced many institutions such as IECRM to put together online programs in a short period of time. I'd say that they didn't do spectacular by any means, but it works. I'd rather do school online, so 2 generous bonus stars for you!
I could see myself changing the review to 5 stars. On an unrelated note, I hope I win the Kindle.
Great classes! Todd Mcgee is a great instructor. wish we were back in school, but the instructor makes it easy for us!
Were very helpful in guiding me to regaining my electrical license. I am a former IBEW 68 member and they have done absolutely nothing to help me reinstate my license, these people have. Even contacted me after my CEU classes.
So I recently started this school and is very good with its teaching. They are very thorough on the schooling and what they teach. Very good school and recommending to any of my friends.
I've learned a tremendous amount of information and have gained more knowledge about the electrical field, can't wait to further progress in this curriculum!
I am in the fast track course, and I couldn't be any happier! They are the first to offer a class like this and the online is working out amazing with covid and living 1.5 hrs away from the school. My teacher is great and I have learned a ton of information. Can't wait to get my Journeymans! Well worth the money
This organization is recognized by the state of Colorado board of education, however, don't expect much from that education. I'm about to complete my minimum two years to test for my journeyman's (which I'll need to study for 'independent' of this school) and there is no way I would do another two years with this school, even if my employer paid for it. The curriculum the instructors are forced to follow is inherently flawed with frequent inaccuracies, poorly formatted material, and an illogical progression of study. I had to proofread my text book just to comprehend it. Some of the material in the text book is a direct copy-and-paste from manufactures sales brochures. The only credit I can give is for the instructors as they are not setup to be successful but at least they try.
Love the class! Great instructors. I learn a ton about my trade. Great Job!
I've been going here for almost 2 years. Instructors work with you nonstop to ensure you understand the curriculum. School helps you with every step to achieve your journeyman's license.
Great trade school for studying to take journeyman electrician exam.
I just too the Grounding Class for CEU credits and I really thought the instructor Kurt did a great job. The classroom we really nice too!
On my second yr. at IEC, and although covid has made us resort to online classes, my knowledge and learning experience has been great. Mike is doing a great job teaching second year.
Started school here in 2020. Online schooling due to covid but it has worked out well. I was hesitant at first because I'm not a fast learner but the teachers answer my questions and emails after class! Would highly recommend for anyone wanting to start a career in electrical - kha dao
On the job training is where I ll gain the majority of my experience but the four year course at IECRM prepares me for the journeyman s exam. I feel like on the job training alone wouldn t suffice. The classroom hours provide an element of training you simply can t get out in the field. My instructor has years of experience in the trade and is dedicated to ensuring we understand the material. His ability to make an abstract idea more concrete by relating what we re learning in class to situations we re likely to encounter in the field is invaluable. He connects the dots so to speak. IECRM plays a integral role in my journey toward licensure and beyond.
I m currently a 3rd year student at IEC. My first 3 semesters were awesome!! My last 3 semesters have definitely been WAY harder with classes being online. 3rd year was supposed to be the year we actually got to do labs and wire up controls in person, but with Covid, we don t get to do any of that. Doing labs online isn t the same whatsoever. We need hands on experience! The online experience is hurting us 3rd years. I m really hoping we can get back into in-class sessions next semester.
IECRM has been good to me so far. I'm currently in the 2nd semester of my 2nd year. Online classes have been a challenge yet my instructors have been pretty good at trying their best to get us through all this and understand the material. My experience here at IECRM so far has been good. I look forward to in-person learning starting back soon!
Well, let's begin with stating the staff is beyond knowledgable. The knowledge is not the issue. The issue, is the curriculum itself. The first year is helpful, especially in getting one familiarized and introduced to the code book along with other, somewhat kinda needed information.
But, second and third year's plates, all reflect the teachings to become an Electricial Engineer. Not an Electrician. The amount, the kind, and the level of information crammed into both of those years, is definitely unnecessary. The focus on chosen information for those years and subsequent study of those teachings is a detriment. IECRM does what they can with what they can, but it would appear either students are lying about their experience, or the faculty and leadership at this institution don't review their own curriculum to actually ask both students and themselves, "Is this info pertinent?" or "Is this -absolutely- necessary for a typical commerical/residential/industrial electrician and what they do?" etcetera.
I'll not give examples of what I mean, because then people only ever treat the symptoms, not the causes. In any event, I will say unless you're a lineman or engineer, you will not need to know a considerable chunk of what is required to pass this school. I sincerely hope IECRM reflects on not my review, but my words. Not just for their own sake, but ours as student electricians as well.
The teachers are all part-time, which makes them mostly average and a bit apathetic. Some are great and some are horrible. Their technology's buggy and problematic even though they've got record attendance (hence income). And whenever there is a problem with a students files (oft-times an issue with their technology or staff communication) the onus is on the student to correct it.
Unfortunately, they have a monopoly in their most of their market as the majority of their students are required by their employers to attend. So the best advice I can give, if your teacher seems to be one of the horrible or ones, force a transfer to another and pray it works out for the best.
I love this place. After working in the electrical trade for 40 years, I find this the best place for education, and information in our industry. The Colorado IECRM is the best
Great school for experienced based learning. Staff is great and adapted to online classes seamlessly.
I m in the second semester of my first year at IEC and I couldn t be happier with my experience so far. My teacher, William Rafferty is extremely helpful and eloquently explains complex ideas in such a way that people with little experience can grasp them. IECRM has handled the covid pandemic so much better than most institutions and its hard to believe they haven t been running classes like this for a long time bc of how smooth the transition has been. I am excited to embark on the next 3 and a half years of my education with them and I hope one day I can teach here! I d give it 6/5 stars if I could.
I am currently in my last Semester if 4th year with IECRM and for the most part it was an okay experience. When I did do in person class it was in a building in Fort Collins and compared to the Denver campus it looks like the step child you want to forget about BUT I didn't have to drive to Denver for class and it worked for the most part. Communication with staff was okay and for the most part you received an answer to your question fairly quickly if you sent it via email. Sometimes the teachers weren't prepared for class or sometimes didn't know the material they were teaching (I'm looking at you Mr. First Year teacher who couldn't bend pipe properly). During my first year I was told that if I was confused still to go to YouTube and learn it myself, which I understand there is a lot to learn in such a little time but at the same time it makes me glad that this all wasn't being paid by me. I may sound like I have a small chip on my shoulder about this place but at the same time I learned a lot and used what I learned in the field. Since the pandemic it has been online only which is a bit of a bummer because the last 2 years of the school there is a bunch of hands on labs that now we are just having to do basically via MS paint. It still gets the point across but it is just not the same. During this time though I would rather it all be online because the building in Fort Collins is not big enough to have 30+ people in each class distance from each other. The lab stations were not that great or upkept anyways, I know they hired someone to come in and get them in better shape but I was unable to see the final results of that because of the Pandemic so maybe in the future that area will have better results with other students. IECRM does a good job at encouraging students to stay on top of their school work and such and they also do a fair amount to show that they appreciate their students and staff with special days and events. There is just over a semester left with this year so thanks for the knowledge and thanks for the pizza! :)
With more emphasis on science and factual learning, and less on tricky word questions from a very outdated curriculum; this COULD be a cool place to learn about being an electrician. This place can be a huge turn off for people that are smart and want to learn about electricity because of the obvious right winged and capitalistic goals this school can press on you. From paying to make up a class that you've already paid for, to holding extravagant events on the dime of your contributors that have nothing to do with education. No student actually goes to or cares about the things like NASCAR night, they'd rather have relevant labs and class time for every period they're required to be there. Instead of consistently stroking the admins egos with these pointless events, they could invest all that money into an updated and science based curriculum and ensure lots of lab time for every year level by equally updating their lab, which is after all where the majority of students actually learn. In the four years I participated in this program I took part in maybe 5 lab activities. Not once was I able to complete any of the lab assignments due to lack of materials, equipment or in the worst case, instructor understanding of the project. As a final nail in the coffin, this place offers barely any real accreditation after four years of attendance, not even an associates degree. Pitiful blunder of resources.
I ECRM has taught me so much the last couple years very student oriented in the company is doing a great job of teaching you exactly what you need to know to pass your state exams best school in Colorado for learning electrical hands down
Great building to learn with lots of labs. Online has been rough but it s new for everyone and hopefully we can get back to the classrooms next year. Awesome opportunities for scholarships to help pay for School, supplies and tools. Thanks IECRM
I am currently a 3rd year student here at IECRM and have absolutely enjoyed my time here. The office ladies are AMAZING! I have sent more emails to Annette and Holly than I would like to admit but they are always prompt with their responses and have helped me with every step in this process... from book shipping to payments. The office ladies keep this show on the road!
The instructors I have had the pleasure of learning from are pretty great as well. They are knowledgeable about the material, professional, and they are constantly bringing scenarios from the job site into the class content so we have a better perspective. The instructors here are so great because they are REAL electricians, they have gotten their hands dirty and have been on a job site. Theh know what we do, how we do it, what worked best for them and what might work best for us.
Overall, IECRM is a great school to attend.
Highly recommend.
great trade school. curriculum builds on itself in a logical and well designed systematic process.
I started with "IEC" back in the early '80's with Ernie Howell as my Instructor! (I got my Journeymen's Lic in 1984). I've taking quite a few courses since then and it's been a good experience. Kirk Krebs
enjoy learning about what I like to make into a career
IECRM provides CEU Courses and many additional certification classes in addition to their standard curriculum. Excellent education institution with a very professional and talented staff.
I m on my second semester of my third year, the teachers are great and the transition to online classes, due to covid, has been seamless. Big blue button FTW!
I am a current first year apprentice. I have enjoyed my experience so fare with IECRM, they are thoro and professional.
Great instructors. The curriculum allowed me to greatly expand my knowledge base.
I'm in my second year at This school, it has its problems and its moments. The grading scale makes it harder to advance and the online part of the school still needs alot of tweeking. Best just go to a real collage to get the knowledge.
Great For on-line classes. I travel for work so They make it easy to still get my education . Instructors are very interactive , helpful.
Excellent electrical training institution and business association. Classes for systems engineers, solar installers, and CEUs (continuing education). One of the best in the country at serving the industry.
Barely started in IECRM and I m enjoying so far. Instructors are cool and explain everything in detail
I have mixed feelings about this place. My instructor was great, I felt like I learned new things throughout the course and it s extremely affordable considering everything you are getting in comparison to the cost of a university education.
Now with that being said, how hard would it be to make a pathway to get this thing done faster than 4 years? Just a path. Everyone doesn t even have to do it.
This is a 4 year CERTIFICATE program. 4 years of life going to school and you don t even have an associates degree by the end. And they literally force the 4 years on you, there s no way around it. No testing out, no doubling up on credits, no accelerated program - and worst of all: they have zero competent competition in the state so you can t even transfer somewhere else that lets you go faster. This is by far the worst part about this school. I spent an entire year studying so I could test out of a year to get it done faster just to find out that even though it says in the student handbook that you can test out of 1st and 2nd year, you can only do that as a new student. If you re already enrolled, you re married to the 4 years (a bit of news that was delivered to me rather rudely using the bogus line of reasoning that the program goes hand in hand with what they view as the standard apprenticeship - and the bit of news that caused me to nearly quit on the spot).
Also, the fairly frequent typos in the text books, homework questions that are inaccurate, repeat questions and general slightly below top quality grade of the class material is slightly- albeit topically - annoying, but, again: this place is super affordable, the instructors are great and you re not really going to miss anything from a few typos.
Just PLEASE make a way - any way - to get this done faster. I would literally pay twice as much for the ability to finish 2 years faster. If they didn t essentially have a monopoly in electrical education, I would almost certainly go somewhere else solely so I could be done sooner. This course done in 2 years instead of 4 = 5 stars.
The worst school you can go to. They will not help you what so you ever. This is why Colorado cannot find electric apprentices. Good luck getting a hold of someone and there teachers will not email you back! All around horrible experience. Never again will I attend IEC
I don t think I will ever look elsewhere for such services.
The only place I could possibly recommend for what they do.
This place is a joke!! Totally unorganized, subpar instructors, faulty grading devices (clickers), appathetic administration. And if the educational experience wasn't bad enough, they send us into 'labs' packed with vendors!! My class had our conduit bending lab replaced with ideal & DeWalt salesman shoving tools in our face.
My instructor is especially awful; in that he reads directly from the book, offers little to no help with homework questions, cannot explain answers( he frequently says "it's 50/50!" On guessing answers), he's always 5-15 minutes late, and English is his second language, so he often misspeaks, or uses phrases incorrectly while teaching.
I'm especially upset, because the recording method for homework, attendance and quizzes is always failing and causing problems. We use electronic clickers to submit answers, and they rarely even work! What's worse, is we then have to physically write out all answer and submit those, which always seem to be misplaced or lost by the instructor.
This is such an issue because it's the only way they track attendance/homework/quizzes. If your instructor misrecords, or loses something, then it's your word against his that you even turned it in!!! Then you contact someone in administration & they totally don't care!! They tell you " your instructor needs to verify that" and kick you out. I just can't believe a place would treat students like this and expect us to actually pay to come back another year!!
It's really discouraging when you have an issue with an instructor, which many other students have as well, and the administration totally doesn't care.
ZERO STARS
I d encourage anyone looking to pursue the trade as an electrician to look at IECRM first. After completing my final exam as a second year apprentice, had time to reflect on how every individual in the school is extremely passionate about helping the students learn, grow and expand in becoming the best electricians while knowing the importance of the hazards of the trade. Having the knowledge of the potential hazards to ensure you and your fellow friends in the trade go home to their families. The instructors whom in which have families, put in their long days and still have the energy through their passion, show up everyday passing on their wisdom. Giving every individual the opportunity to have a passionate career, truly shows the character of IECRM s instructors and why they are involved with a school who are passionate evolving the trade and industry. Please do yourself a favor, come check out the curriculum and the people within.
I m in 1st year second semester and my experience has been awesome so far. John McColl is my instructor and he does a great job explaining complex electrical issues and problems in ways that are easy to understand and make sense.
Trained though IEC in New Mexico 25 years ago. I found it to be great. I can't truly speak for the Denver group but would expect good things.
IECRM is a great curriculum for newbies thru experienced tradesman trying to satisfy the requirements for achieving journeymen license. It starts at the beginning and adds
Great class, very good instructor. Very very good. Thank you.
Top notch in my books! Excellent electrical training institution and association. Couldn t be prouder to be representing this organization at a national level!
Great school. Amazing teachers. Did all 4 years very helpful with trade knowledge
What requirements do I need to be able to study at your school?
On my 4th year here at IECRM and have really enjoyed my time and learned a lot. Great teachers and great staff.
