Prepare to line up, the exchange houses are extremely inefficient but they are safe.
I am 16 years old, I was arriving alone.
They didn t let me go through customs immediately. They let me wait for hours while my family was waiting for me on the other side.
Without giving me any information. Really unprofessional team.
Longest wait times I've ever seen, they are not equipped for high traffic! Waited in line 2 hours to check in, they wouldn't tell us when our plane was boarding, and their intercom system is garbage you can't hear anything. When you ask staff they are ALL rude and disrespectful and tell you they don't know. When we finally lined up for boarding we waited in line for one hour to board. Worst airport ever.
Very poor my experience at this airport. Apart from the heat, people do not attend properly, even to sell! Those who did not listen to me and did everything reluctantly. Also 3 hours to deliver the luggage by the tapes seemed an abuse. I only passed transit but I feel that the administration at that airport is very bad.
Dirty airport, those who work there have zero desire ...
Updated, but still old school feeling from the early era of the 60s (matching Havana's spirit). Some duty free, limited selection of food and coffee, but clean
bad attention
!
Airport is not enough quality. Cash withdrawal with the card was almost impossible due to the broken ATM and it was not possible to travel. I was surprised that the procedure was also typing passport number by hand instead of machine input. The plane did not fly easily and as a result I had to change at the airport of Mexico Cancun and stayed at the airport. I think that it would be better to have a margin in transfer time in Cuba Mexico.
Quite small and in bad shape. Rather old and depressive arrival hall. Disorganised. Long queues on baggage, currency exchange and immigration. No WiFi, of course. Large parking places for taxis outside of the building.
Very bad, terrible treatment, they want to charge you even the air, small, uncomfortable, the luggage is treated in a brutal way and they do not replace anything that they break (I already have several suitcases that have broken me) stairs not working ..... ..
The boarding sector was full of dirt. The bathrooms are disgusting.
To be an international airport leaves a lot to be desired. In my opinion it is too small for the number of flights.
Horrifying hygienic conditions, even the bathrooms in the VIP area were dirty.
Incoming inspections in Cuba asphyxiating, to take the outgoing plane they did everything.
VERY CARE ALL THE SERVICES, THE HORRIBLE BATHROOMS, THE WIFI THERE IS WHAT TO PAY FOR AND NOBODY KNOWS ANYTHING. A DISASTER.
I wonder how an airport can be so chaotic and severe at the same time
Worn out and poor facilities. It is difficult to understand that a small airport has to be divided into terminals. Taxi fares between terminals are as high as 10CUC for short journeys, which are basically killing tourists. Changing money is troublesome, renting a car is troublesome, and it is difficult to find something to eat. I can only buy snacks before leaving the customs, and there is a normal restaurant after leaving the customs. The staff at the information desk didn't know what they were asking and they didn't speak English well enough. After leaving the restaurant, they can pay USD but not their own CUC, which is inexplicable.
Visited for a few days ago. Indescribable! Outside not a taxxi in good standing, you are not a customer who chooses because "they are the smartest". Inside not one prepared to welcome the traveler, only "arrogant and rude" soldiers in stocking ". Do not approach the dutyfree remember that you are not a customer who buys a product but a hassle and your questions will receive rude answers for free. Regardless of the infatuation of the moment because you are in a beautiful country, return to find friends / family / girlfriends must recognize that the decadence and disenchantment are killing Cuba.
Entry and exit catastrophic. You also feel kind of helpless because none of the employees at the airport have any interest in making things go faster or giving you information.
It can be a little bit strange when you go to drop off your luggage and get your place tickets when the Kiosk asked if you have any Cuban money left. Don't worry. You cannot take Cuban tourist pesos out of the country. They will happily give you 1:1 USD. That's great if you use USD. Not if you're from the UK However, if you only have a few CUC left you can use it after security on the other side for snacks and drinks. Great Aircon, it's needed!
I do not put a zero because otherwise my opinion would not come out .... The airport leaves a lot to be desired and the staff (some, as always ...) more.
I say this because my suitcase was stolen after passing the control, ... that is, those from Customs, ... They left it apart, ... I arrived at Barajas and the suitcase that did not arrive ... Here, that did not arrived and there it came out ....
After rummaging through the Embassy, calling the airport, these deny the greatest .... etc repeatedly.
After more than a month the suitcase appeared, ... lacking that we remember ... A high-end Canon Flash, A camera camera case, specific for a submersible Canon model ... and about four dresses of my wife , ... who is in the habit of buying expensive things .... come on, we pay the trip twice.
I have the consolation that the case is not worth anything, ... it would be a great coincidence that they have that model of photo camera ...
That if someone has made his wife or darling happy with those dresses ...
What I am very clear about is that they will not hear me speak well of certain Cuban classes ... and of course I will not recommend going to Cuba to anyone.
HEALTH COMRADES
It was not the best airport we visited.
In terms of security, I have to say the worst we have ever visited.
So we flew over Terminal 2.
Maybe the main house is better guarded and things are better controlled.
A while ago I visited Cuba with my friend is a beautiful country but when we arrived at the airport service was the WORST I've seen in my life, nobody wanted to help us locate us well and the lady who took care of us in immigration was very badly educated very rude and all the time we were at the airport we were treated badly, they must understand that as a tourist the first impression we have is precisely at the airport they are welcome to everyone who arrives, when we left there we were afraid that all the Cubans or the places where we were going to go will treat us the same but luckily it was not like that we had a great time
But please change personnel, or do something for that airport because the service is THE WORST I HAVE SEEN IN MY LIFE it was the worst
Bad food offer, duty free shop? - No.
Settlement slow socialistically.
A few shops, nothing special.
The worst airport in the world
Employees bribe you or send you to confiscate for any reason.
The only airport in the world that pays Customs taxes when you arrive, not when you leave.
The treatment and appearance of the employee is very bad.
It is an airport of thieves employees can reach your destination and miss half of your belongings.
Lack dignity and respect
I do not recommend it, avoid visiting it
Small airport. Not so very organized. The gift shops just want your money - of feel free to bargain (ie: this is all I have). Thing available in the airport shops that you could have saved your time carrying (ie: wait to get it on your way out - especially booze). Lots of people wanting to give you a ride - check prices - they vary greatly!
unfortunately two bags lost after 3 days 1 found at night 1 in the afternoon the mystery and that the lock of the first found broken na ... on the second suitcase delivered x the rest or found friendly and helpful staff
Terrible, rude and rude attention most of the people who work there.
Unfriendly, incompetent staff. At the toilet partially unsustainable hygiene conditions.
It is incredible the inefficiency of this airport (in all aspects) is the first impression that one gets from Cuba and it is not very good.
The truth is that you can not ask for more, the wait for emigration control is comparable with those of other airports (more congested), what really is a headache is customs control, they are very strict especially if you carry more than your personal luggage.
The only thing I can say is that I spend the saddest hours of my life on a day like August 8, 2016, but I hope they are the happiest for 2017.
Some positives- small and easy to get through. Plenty of seating and no lines at immigration both arriving and departing. However, poor bathroom facilities. Food and drink is almost non existent. The airport is cold due to strong air conditioning. Needs an upgrade but not the worst. That goes to Rome Ciampino.
Arriving via a flight: It takes awhile to get through customs, and then security. A guard saw us and called for "familia" to come through before others (not sure if it was because we were foreign or because we had a little one, but I appreciated it). Took forever for our two bags to arrive. It is crowded and chaotic, and the smell of smoke is constantly there in the building. Baggage claim, security, and customs are all one place in the terminal we were at (2). There was also a desk to stop and turn in your medical paperwork, but we somehow passed it and no one stopped us. I went back and submitted the form before we left just in case. Upon exit, there are lots of locals packed around the gate. Luckily, our driver showed me where to get the money exchanged (I had to go back inside the airport, to the check in area to do so). We did not see any food or ETECSA (WiFi) when we arrived. Best to book a driver in advance so you do not have to deal with the crowd or try to negotiate pricing (or have to burn cash- we did it all online before leaving home).
Departure on a flight: Upon driving up to the terminal, we saw a food kiosk and the WiFi kiosk at the far end of the terminal. No wonder we didn't see it when we arrived. Check in was easy, but they only check in the flights one at a time, it seemed. They were not accepting people on the later flight yet, just the earlier flight. We were not allowed (by the vendor) to buy a bag of coffee because she said security wouldn't let us bring it through. Easy to get back through customs and security. On the other side are some shops for souvenirs (not much though), and duty-free alcohol and cigars. The food was sad, and despite putting napkins with our sandwiches, we were not allowed to have more napkins even though the little one knocked a drink over. We also couldn't get napkins from the bathroom, as toilet paper was all that was there, and they wanted to charge for hand towels (and there is no seat on any of the toilets there, which is customary in many public places). Not a great way to start or end the trip.
Small but neat terminals. At the arrivals exit there is a money exchange where they can buy Cuban pesos (CUC) and a few tourism businesses.
For departure there is a money exchange where you check in and inside the terminal (this is faster), if you want to buy something, it must be in cash.
Western standards and, above all, friendliness should not be expected. But that's not why you fly to Cuba. Luggage can also get away. There is a strict military tone in the Lost and Found department. For every employee who works, there are two who do nothing. It's pretty much different from anything else in the world. Where, for example, is the hand luggage felted again on arrival.
Not the best but definitely not the worst. Not indicative of my experiences in the country but hints at them.
To be in Cuba we are soo forward and super advanced. They are fairly clean and quick
Used Terminal 2 for Southwest. Arriving wasn't bad. The longest process was waiting for our bags. You should pay $25 for a taxis to Havana. There is a currency exchange at the ticket counter section. For departing internationally, do not the arrive more than 3 hours. There is a duty free inside if you still have left over CUC and wifi which you need the prepaid cards.
Toilets could not be used were full of rubbish up to the top. Cleaning ladies have been on strike.
Friendliness of employees borders on military standards. At the security check everyone has to take off their shoes. Nasty toilets without paper. Currency exchange rates are a cheek (you lose about 20% -30% in both directions). Better take off at the ATM and end up with no CUC left.
Overcrowded and bad information about gates.
The signs are hard to find. The check-ins and Security staff was very slow and the halls was overcrowded as well. My sister was ill and vomited several times that day and we actually got priority in the lines so therefore I m giving it 2 stars. Still, the airport staff and the gigantic lines is a big problem and I certainly did not enjoy my stay here.
Important Important:
Cash inefficient, but only in exchange for CUC can not change other currencies, the euro, 50 minutes .... I swap line with a stopwatch to calculate their service people need more than four minutes in the city .... swap as long as 30 seconds.
After the Customs can not use CUC! ? CUC is not it strange legal tender? USD also pay 10% more! Pricing also with USD?
Outbound Immigration is also very inefficient, looked a long time before release, immigration officers seem to have the operation in question also looking for people to help look at another counter, resulting in two counters are idle for 5 minutes.
Recommend leaving a taxi to the airport and then put the money in exchange for CUC euro in the city lest queue.
Airport to the city bus 25CUC
Cuba is not the Chinese people feel silly money ah? I will not go the second time.
Always get your receipt when buying from the dury free shop at the Havana airport!
We bought a couple of bottles of rum from the duty free shop there and they did not put the receipt in the bag. Unfortunately, we noticed the missing receipt at the Toronto airport where we had a connecting flight. We had to throw out the rum. Not a fun memory from our vacation.. .
Horrible experience. They will open your checked baggage and will take anything they want. An airport full of thieves . If you are traveling out of Havana try to avoid checking any luggage and be very careful with your carry on. If you buy any food do the math before paying otherwise they will rob you blind. If you pay in US dollars they exchange rate is arbitrary. Again, it s a den of thieves.
It would need a good investment and / or repair, otherwise the staff is excellent.
Jose Marti International Airport - Havana.
What struck me the most was the state of the airport, both the property and the cleanliness.
The treatment of the staff a bit dry and unfriendly.
Another drawback was that at the end of my stay in Cuba I changed the money left over to euros and when I checked in all the establishments only accepted the currency of Cuba CUC so we stayed for 2 hours without being able to drink or eat anything. It is a silly but annoying detail when you want to buy water and when you can no longer.
To highlight something positive was the speed of picking up the bags and the management for both the Entrance and the Exit, it was all fast and fluid whenever you go through the green channel.
When leaving the airport there are 2 ways:
Green Channel - People carrying only personal items.
Red Channel- Cuban natural persons that have to declare products in customs (electronics, appliances, etc ..)
Channel that does not affect any tourist since we can only carry miscellaneous and personal items.
Small but agile and well indicated every place. Missing more food stores
Small and dirty airport. You can order Cuba Libre for 3 1cuc.
I put three stars, but they could be clearly two. Horrible if you have to spend a couple of hours.
Few services for the passenger ...
We wanted to have a coffee and we could not pay with a credit card. Nor did they accept Euros coins.
The state of the airport leaves much to be desired, the bathrooms are bad, with facilities that do not work or are dirty.
Unfortunately this is a bad impression for those who visit this beautiful country, but it is also a reflection of the current situation.
I hope they improve!
Torrid heat, unpleasant smell even for mice and crowds for a "lousy" sandwich ..., only joy: having to stop for only 2 hours
Of all my trips to Havana, I have always found the same airport, it remains in time as a station stuck in the past. It is a preamble to the inequality and ruins that you will find in that communist country
No problems at customs, both when entering and leaving, just have your Cuban visa and your passport on hand, it is more tedious to check your hand luggage, the staff does their job but sometimes they are not even aware of certain activities, upon arrival, the suitcases are thrown away, literally they are not careful with it, so ensure the interior of your luggage well, you must also have a lot of patience, why you will spend at least half an hour waiting for it to leave, patience. Now, on international departures, the waiting room was very dirty, there you can make last minute purchases, from cigars, sweets, Ron, a little more expensive than outside, you can also consume alcohol in the room without any problem, from daiquiris to beer. As for food, the truth is not very appetizing, it is preferable to eat something before going. There is wi - fi per card in the room, you can buy the cards right there, but it is expensive: there is only half an hour and it costs you 1 CUC (18 mxn approximately)
Very small airport with few shops and one food shop , smoking room inside the airport making the whole place stink :( shame u need to be there for 2 h
Nice but you should improve flight info almost leaves me the plane
Quality also has to be strived for more due to many years of US sanctions.
Most of the people who work there are very moody. I do not recommend buying cigars here because they are too expensive, almost 4 times more than they cost outside. Additionally, the bathrooms smell very bad.
International Airport, way "Havana" ...
The "smoking room" is something.
I have a bag of films with some ISO400/800 rolls, I requested a hand-check at the arrival, stating that I will have to go through many security checks so I want my films to be exposed as minimum as possible. The staff at the security check was very rude and couldn t understand English, forced me to put my films into the machine. I m from China and this is my first time visiting Cuba, I wanted to take many nostalgia photos here and bring back some sweet memories...it seems like it is impossible now, what a shame! : (
Well, it's Cuba. same love that repels.
The attention at the airport is basic and rude,
They are very poorly educated officials.
Draws attention not so much the old and precarious, if not the dirty.
It is a pity that there is no more maintenance culture.
There is a Visa Master sticker and there is also a card reader, but I can not use the card
Duty-free shops also have a small selection
Pongo una porque es obligatorio pero no la merece porque son demasiados y abusivos principalmente con sus mismos compatriotas entre otras muchas cosas
Amazed that this airport uses "tricks" to make money.
As a tourist you can only get CUC currency. Once you get through security, you can't be allowed to pay with CUC. By contrast, dollars or credit cards - whereby they charge a 10 percent fee.
In the speakers is a message explaining that you can not use CUC when you have passed through security, but this message is well played to feel, After you have gone through security.
The airport is alright. They need to turn down the AC at night for the people who sleep there, to catch their early morning flights. At least the bathrooms are clean, have toilet paper, just missing the lock on the bathroom doors.
It was well accomodation the family was so good and treated us awesome!
And I love the cars in Cuba...it's Ambassadors all around... Look just cool
