Most of the people who work here, that I met, were very helpful and friendly. They aren't crazy like the airports I've been to in the U.S. were they make it do difficult to get through security. If you want to save money on a taxi, I would recommend hailing any of the antique old cars you see and ride with them. Ask the price beforehand. And be aware that you might be picking up and doing of other passengers along the way.

This is a place where we used to be very anxious, and worried that the customs will be made difficult, especially that Cuba is not a friendly relationship with the United States, and it makes us worry about it.
In the past travel experience, as long as you can listen and speak simple English, you can probably walk around without any hindrance; unexpectedly, the Cubans do not eat this set, so we use the most in Cuba You ca n t guess at the meal, so you have to use the camera and point at the photo to express your meaning.
At the Cuban airport, the speed of the two entrances and exits is actually quite smooth, just like other airports, but it is more approachable than the American airport.

Not a bad single thing to say about it, it's really clean, AC's always blasted, booze's pretty cheap & the food ya eat while you're there is awesome as well, I haven't had a bad experience myself ever..

There is a lot of room for improvement at this airport. First of all, depending on what terminal you enter in, prepare for long lines if traveling during a busy time. The longest wait will by far be the bag pick up, in which you sit around a spinning platform and witness as bags are thrown haphazardly onto the platform.

When entering, if you let the workers there take your bags or help you, they will expect compensation. The airport staff often seem in a bad mood, which does hurt the atmosphere of the airport. However, there are nice workers if you look around, and any tips are greatly appreciated. Be patient with and kind to the airport staff, as they are tired and bored as well and you don t want to get on their bad side.

IMPORTANT: Make sure all of your belongings are in the suitcases before leaving the airport. They will often open your cases when they suspect something and may confiscate something of yours. When exchanging money, make sure that it is accurate and you are not being ripped off.

In my experience, besides the wait, this airport has not been too bad.

It is normal for Cuba. Some small European airports are worse and here prices are at least normal for a drink or beer.

Dear Cuba, I have had a fantastic holiday in your country over the Christmas time. Unfortunately, your airport in havana was terrible. As a nurse, your infection control is woefully inadequate, no soap in the lavatories, doors not closing properly.
We where told that we could exchange your currency into sterling in the departure lounge, we could not. We queued for a drink, the system was totally unorganised. We gave up and eventually had a drink in your downstairs cafe.
You are now an international airport and must recognise this for the health and well being of passengers.

The Havana International Airport is one of the worst airports I have ever visited in my life. It has no hygiene whatsoever, the staff is extremely unpleasant, starting with those in commercial stores and ending with those in customs. Connection with public transport zero, there is no public transport, except for expensive taxis, which take you from the airport to the city center. They don't have restaurants. In addition to all this, always or most of the time, flights are late. Anyway, that airport is the worst.

Warning - Attempted Robbery by Uniformed Passenger Screening Personnel.

Departing from this rather down at the heels airport, my carry-on bag was opened after the x-ray by passenger screening personnel (TSA equivalents). There was a small pair of scissors in the bag which they rightly confiscated. The uniformed woman who checked the bag said nothing about the 2 boxes of cigars inside.

Shortly afterward, I was confronted in the men's room by a young man, also uniformed. who had not been present when my bag was opened. He informed me that it was illegal to take cigars on the aircraft and that he would have to confiscate them. I told him I would return and left the room. He made no further attempt to contact me, and I boarded my flight uneventfully.

To claim that it is illegal to board aircraft with cigars in a carry-on is clearly a baldfaced lie, an attempt to rob me of the cigars. Because at least 2 airport personnel were involved in this fraud, I suspect others were also complicit. Therefore, I chose not to report it for fear that I would be dealing with yet another member of the scam.

Beware of uniformed passenger screening personnel at this airport.

It's ok, but the queues for immigration control are outrageous.

Very bad, the same terminal 2 as 3, also scammers! And very stressful the same entry as the exit, immigration, and customs much worse!

WATCH OUT!!! At this airport is stolen !!! I flew on 09.06 to Germany (Frankfurt) with Condor and despite closed suitcase with lock many things were stolen from my suitcase !!! Sorry the staff there! I would never fly from Havana again. For me it was not the first case that was stolen.

Havana airport is the monument of incompetence and unprofessionalism backed up by a state supported tourist ripoff.



After paying the pumped up price i demand speaking to a person, because i paid for someone else's incompetence. Guess what, no one speaks english in an international airport and they send you from office to office like a ping pong ball. At the end, when the stewardess of cubana airways finally understood what was going on, she said she doesnt care and rejected speaking to me. End of the story.

The airport itself is old and crowded. There is no air conditioning. The moment you step out of the plane you queue up for passport control in a claustrophobic room without daylight and then you queue up again for security check before claiming your suitcase. It took 2 hours to leave the airport. For the return flight it took again two hours to pass the passport and security controls. All these are done very imcompetently by 20 year old girls and boys not speaking proper english and unable to handle tourists cutting the waiting lines.

The best part of the airport was the runway for the return flight taking off.

CAUTION ! At this airport people steal from their suitcases, even the perfumes. Please do not have any brands of clothes, jewelry, perfume etc. in your suitcase!

Nightmare of an airport. But kind of expected. Nobody knows what's going on.
If you get selected to have you bag searched that whole process will take about 45 minutes after you get to the xray machines. They will take every single thing out of your bag and then take every card out of your wallet. Then they wont let you pack it yourself so they will ram stuff into your bag in the wrong spot and break your headphones. Also the dude doing it will cough directly into your back pack like it was a joke. They wont even speak Spanish to explain what's going on. A series of grunts and points was the closest to communication I received past the ticketing counter. Oh and by the way you cant use the useless cuban tourist money in the airport. So if you have any of their currency left you might as well throw it on the ground instead of buying a beer.

We went to visit Cuba in early January of this year. The worse airport I have ever been in . No Airconditioning or comfortable chairs to sit in . Only one small duty free shop . Almost no cafe shops or restaurants to choose from . The is no Wifi or connection. They run out of calling cards early in the day . The Lines are long and messy and no one to speak too or complain. The flight was very delayed and the employees at the airport were very rude and unwelcoming . Cuba itself was beautiful to see and the locals were very sweet and friendly .

It is a shame that people with such a low level of information work in that place and when you ask you they come out in tremendous bad shape. What a shame but it is the big problem of the island the Cubans who live there.

This evaluation is what I hope to give, I will not lie. -I can not tell my expansion because my trip is from here to 25 days, but with the opinions of this page the truth makes me want to change the course, when I return I will give your opinion on My experience I hope is good.-

Locals that have money will come here to buy coffee, snacks, alcohol, imported goods. Only other place we could find bottled water to buy. Bathrooms are very rough to visit so be prepared - have lots of toilet paper and flexibility. Money exchange can be sketchy so make sure you get a receipt and count your change; they will short you with coins if you don t pay attention.

I don't give them a star but I have to put it in order to post my comment. I want to say something to the workers of the Jose Marti airport in Havana. It is the lowest and shameless airport in the world. My father arrived in Havana this morning and when he got home he realized that he had been robbed. They stole a tablet and a phone that my brother had ordered. They left the empty tablet case in the briefcase, so he wouldn't notice. That is low and dirty. The most degrading thing is that you have no right to claim. There is no respect, there is no humanity and above all there is no shame. Thieves and hatchers. It is unfortunate that this happens and they do this to their own people, their country brothers, their fellow men. A word to Cubans who want to visit. ... be careful and be alert. It is simply disappointing. God will take care of making them pay. I imagine that my father is not the only one who has gone through this unnecessary and bitter experience. What a shame...

Most disgusting airport I've ever been to. Restroom toilets are feeled with feces and urine, sinks covered in cigar ashes, people smoking all around you

It had a toilet and even a place to buy food. It reflects perfectly what Cuba is, you as a client are nobody and shouldnt be bothering poor folk (starting from security agents and finishing on toilet lady). It wasn't horrible but I the happiest part was taking off.

A rest of socialist service with Cuba flair: arbitrary clearance, unfriendly staff, huge waiting times - but Cuban serenity ....

Some helpful info:
Try to find sb ti share the taxi as price is 25-30 cuc. If you go to building opposite the airport we found taxi for 20 cuc. (No public buses available, just from terminal 2 that is far away)
Dont use exchange in the aiport asi they charge 10% comission, use the ATM on the departure floor as in the arrival are long queues.
There are not luggage lockers in the airport.
Rums are good price also in duty free, however cigars are slighly more expensive.

I enjoyed the airport as a passenger, we will see what happens when I return and I have to go through customs lol, but I hope and I know that everything will be fine, feet is my country .
In general, what I liked the most was that I went to Havana!

Thanks to the one who boarded my boyfriend's coach opened it and stole my cell that I had forgotten there inadvertently. When i did arrive home my bags was damaged. When i open them they had been search and a lot of items had been taken. Not just alcohol, ciggars but also typical souvenirs and creams. Nothing was illegal to bring out or even over The limits of laws what you are allowed to bring with you from there. Still it was taken and no one did stop me or inform me! The corruption in The country is this deep that not even as a tourist in an airport you are safe!

Cuba is the first country that I have been that migratory officers make you go to the counter to put a little label when you had done web check in. Worst service in my life!

For a small airport, it was really quite efficient, all of the airport personnel were very professional and helpful.

2 negative spots:
The lack of simple clear signage, combined with the large crowds who came to collect or see friends and relatives off created a bit of a confused atmosphere. Everyone was simply supposed to know where things were. Not a huge problem as any local could point you in the direction you wanted to go. It was a bit of an issue at the luggage carousels because the bags would come through whichever they felt like going on, despite signage indicating that they were only going to be on a specific one.

The shops in the departure lounge had prices that ranged from 'fair' to, 'reasonable for an airport departure lounge', straight up to 'let's see exactly how much gouging we can get away with'. In some cases you could walk 10m and find similar items at a fraction of the price.

Crowded at times but the staff is nice. Baggage claim takes forever

We had a stopover in Havana, where we could not take our connecting flight directly, but had to wait for immigration first, until an employee took us the passports, so that 2 hours disappeared until we got them back. He said he had to check us in, even though we had already tickets for our connecting flight. After repeated requests, it was after more than 2 hours possible to get back our passports. Our suitcases were not forwarded, but we received them 4 days later - thanks to the airline! The suitcases were opened in Havana and some items such as a camera, dresses, jackets and pants were stolen. I would never fly over Havana again, because the airport is a mess. If it is possible to use another airport for stopover, then this is definitely worth the money.

For the Cuban target, I would say discreet ... The bathrooms leave MUCH to be desired ....

I had a great experience here, the staff were friendly, even though I had brought in a handheld GPS, they confiscated it for the duration of my trip (I picked it up on my way out), but despite the language barrier (I don't speak Spanish) they were very very friendly and helpful. It got a lot easier when I pulled out a Spanish translate app on my phone.

Arriving at Havana airport makes it clear that you have to leave the experience in other airports aside and rely on something else, otherwise you risk multiple jitters.
If the on time arrival of the flight makes you happy it is not said that you can get off .. you can even wait 30-40 minutes in a row behind another airplane arrived before yours.
But what can exasperate is the waiting for the baggage claim more than 1 hour ... and when the belt runs and the first baggage arrives together with a feeling of relief ... be careful because after 5 suitcases everything stops for other endless dozens of minutes and at the end you surrender and also accept the distribution in fits and starts ....

Not bad of an airport overall. The only problem is every teminal is spread out. Wouldn t mind coming back here again. Miss Cuba a whole lot!

Best thing about this Airport is the bar serving cocktails before the flight home. After the numerous ones in Cuba the ones poured here were by far the best, and cheap for an Airport too. On the way in there was quite a bit of confusion with the baggage carousel numbers, but that was soon forgotten.

Worst Airport ever, bags always delayed, extremely dirty, super crowded, no internet connection available, the staff is always looking for ways to get your money, bathrooms are always out of service and they expect you to give them tips when the bathroom is how is supposed to be. They stay at the door and look at you with the face of -are you going to tip me- Not the best experience.

If they are wanting more tourists, they really need a lot of investment in infrastructure- starting with the airport. Bring patience & be prepared for things like bathrooms without toilet seats, ham sandwich as only food option and no organized boarding system.

An airport that must change a lot of things as soon as you arrive you know that you arrived in Cuba the first thing a heat the broken air conditioning there are no luggage carts but if you give 5 euro they immediately appear you arrive and those at customs drop you like flies to see that you they can remove you are in more than 3 hours ... the depressing bathrooms make you want to go inside to make a change of currency another 2 hours of queues if I go to Cuba it is because I have family but I would not return to such a beautiful country but what they are letting destroy ...

Once inside the airports departure terminal, the official currency CUC is not accepted any more. Tourists are forced to pay in EUR or US$ and cannot spent their last cuban cash. What country does not accept its own currency.

A tourist trap. Change the money just right and little by little, you will not be able to change what is left over, that is, to take euros or dollars anywhere. Only place to change from CUC to foreign currency (If they have ... and they usually only have euros). Once passed to the international zone, CUCs cannot be used nor can they be removed from Cuba.
