Well, when Ian's first opened we didn't really consider it to be as legit as Casa Bianca. Actually Zorba's and the Parthenon were the most popular go to's around that time. Pizza seems to have won over gyros. Ian's established a lot of legitimacy with the move to State St and the passage of time. Pizza is good not great and now quite trendy. Service is occasionally exceptional and mostly average. Location is nice but always questionable for small children because you never know what people outside will be smoking or yelling. Expect vulgarities, panhandling, and disputes outside.

I guess this is the original place for Mac n cheese on your pizza. Huge variety of interesting pizzas and salads. Lots of fresh toppings for everybody's pallet. Bunch of unique sodas in the soda machine too. You can see why College Stoners and drunks in the middle of the night must love this place :-) on the weekends during the day it's great for parents with kids, it's noisy, big tables and no one will notice the mess you make.

Good pizza. If you've never been here they sell it by the slice. They're huge slices so it's kinda like 2 big slices off a normal pizza, and they're about $4 a piece. Fresh ingredients, the margarita pizza is the best! Mac n cheese is pretty dank, too!

Gluten free apparently only comes sauce and cheese free too. I've ordered from them 6 times now and only once (when I told them the last 3 times sucked) did it come with even 3/4 of the crust covered. Every other time the gf crust is left about half bare. Yum yum plain tapioca flour and rice! Totally worth the outrageous 20 dollars for a 12 inch. Better off buying your own frozen and adding whatever toppings you want

Visited this place while in Madison as was told "you have to try Ian's pizza"!
Went about 6pm Sat evening. Got there at a good time as they started getting busy after 6.30 and the lines got pretty long.
Tried 4 different slices:
mac/chz-was just ok,not what we expected (were told this is a must try!). It might have been better if it was fresher/hotter.
Spinach/feta & pesto was good, but again not hot, but lukewarm.
CheesyPotatoe w/ranch pizza was surprisingly good, but the smoky and the bandit chkn was the best in our opinion- even lukewarm the taste was really good; we put bbq sauce on both which added a nice twist to the flavor.
As we both discussed, if the slices had been fresher-they make the pizzas ahead and reheat the slices as ordered-they probably would have tasted better. All that said, I loved the atmosphere, and will definitely give them a try again the next time in the area. Price was very fair for the size of slices and unique ingredients!

Great pizza. Terrible service. They know they're a cultural icon, and will retain a revolving customer base every four years, regardless of the level of service. It definitely hasn't impacted their food quality much, though. Just don't expect to leave very happy.

Okay, I think it your experience Ian's depends on when you're eating. Dinner? Great, lots of interesting and creative flavors that keep your meal experience interesting. Late night? Now you're talking. Nothing like Ian's to satisfy your late night hunger.

When you ask the people on States Street for the best Pizza Joint they all recommend Ian's. Their signature is the Macaroni and Cheese Pizza therefore that is what I purchased for 4 bucks. Amazing crust and the cheese flavors are sinful with a hint of pepper (not spicy at all). I wouldn't have thought this a good combo but it proved me wrong. If you visit State Street, Ian's is a must! There were many people however the line moved quickly; the staff were polite and answered many questions about the various Pizzas.

I went in for lunch. Got the Caesar s salad (mention extra dressings) and the Buffalo mac&cheese chicken pizza slice. The Caesar s salad was good but I forgot to mention the extra dressing so it was a little dry but still tasty. The pizza slice is huge and filling. The service is super quick and the ambience is great.

Do yourself a favor and go to a real pizza shop that knows what they are doing and how to do it well. Ian on the other hand, serves cold, overpriced, and reheated pizza warmed in an oven. Super limited options to specialty type pizzas, no traditional options for pizza (i.e. sausage, mushroom, cheese, etc). And terrible service to tip the scale to 'no thanks' if you were undecided or on the fence about coming to Ian's. Two stars for some of the retro/vintage look of the place. Otherwise, run in the other direction!
