Went for my first wedding this past weekend. Had not been at Hyland Hills in 20 years. What a totally beautiful surprise. Even with a rain storm pushing the wedding indoors, the view to the hill from the 30 foot windows was idyllic. The bathrooms and changing rooms were clean, orderly and spacious. The ski chalet did not feel cold and impersonal, but instead warm and inviting. With nearly 200 guests, the space worked really well. Worth consideration for the next big event.

My Daughter Loves It! She went with her school and requested that I bring her and her friends back there. They had a Great Time. The food is good and the variety is good. Nice big sitting area

Not very dog-friendly. If you want to walk your dog, you ll have to walk alongside the paved bike trails. But the bike trails don t go all the way around the lake, and the unpaved trails are off limits to dogs, although it s hard to tell from the poorly designed map.

The playground is big and impressive, but there s hardly any shade. On a warm day it s like sending your kids to play in frying pan. Oh, and your dog can t come with you into the observation area, either.

If you leave your dog at home and bring plenty of sunscreen for the kids, you ll have a great time. If you bring your dog, it honestly kinda sucks.

Fun

This has been a favorite park since I was in elementary school. Now it's a family regular hangout all summer and fall. The best play area for kids, boat rentals, walking/hiking trails, fishing. One of My favorites is the outdoors gym workout!

This park has an extensive layout of trails, paved and unpaved alike. It's really great for any type of exercise, especially if you are not one who wants to go around a loop several times.

This is a very, very good place to spend with your kids. The playground is huge and kids can easily spend an hour or two there. After that you can take a walk (or run) around the lake which is about 2.5 miles and can take another hour. In winter they have ski trail, which we will definitely be exploring. Highly recommend.

1st time snowboarding with the boy. Spent the day on the bunny hill, but made progress.
Only complaint was how many people were there. Almost seemed over sold, but I am sure they have to make up for Covid losses. ;(

It was packed busy! Nice park, picnic areas, and playground. Not as fun for little kids, but over 12-18mths it gets better. No bees yet this yr. (the only downside to this place in the summer) but great for families and meetings

Great play area for kids! Covered benches for parents to sit. Visitors Center nearby with restrooms and a concession stand. Great place to let the kids run and play. There are even misters for the kids to run through to cool off!

Big park, popular picnic and camping. Lightly traveled trails for a Sunday on memorial day weekend. Beautiful well kept paved and unpaved trails. Though unpaved trails could be better marked sometimes I felt I was just wandering in a big field looking for a different way.

Hyland Lake Playground has to be one of the biggest and best in the Twin Cities metro area - at least, I haven t found anything to top it. Locals call it Chutes and Ladders park and that s not far from the truth. There is a massive interconnected, multi-level jungle gym that can support children and adults. They have a smaller play set for little kids, and several other attractions.

Seating is at a premium on busy days and if you want a shady spot, better get here early. Hyland Lake also sports a rare outdoor gym that has body weight exercise machines. There is of course a boat landing, covered pavilions, and lots of trails too.

Hyland Lake is a must see destination if you ve got young kids.

Great local ski area with nice chalet and well maintained hills. Pretty small since it is in the cities but still very nice. Definitely not enough lockers but there are open cubbies. Food in the chalet is decent and not super over priced.

Beware, they do not enforce the rules on the playground at all. My daughter was knocked over by a boy riding his scooter in the middle of the playground. I asked they boy to stop and pointed out the rule on the very large sign, his mom flipped out on me. I went to the concession stand inside the visitor center, as I could not find any security staff. They just brushed me off and did nothing.

Tried out the disc golf here and was not impressed. The course is up and down the hills, through the weeds, and through the woods. Many times discs went off course and you had to wander through thorns to find your disc.

This is an absolutely amazing park. The "chutes and ladders" play area is probably the best free kids playground in Minnesota. It has an endless amount of activities for kids from toddlers all the way up to adolescents. I'm an adult and even I had a good time on the playground "helping" the little ones. Even without the playground this park is awesome though, it has a nice visitor center that is open year round, boat rentals, hiking & biking trails that also work for cross country skiing in the winter. There are tons of picnic tables and lots of shade with open space to play.

Several of the buildings and shelters are reservable. Even when it's really busy this is a great place to go with the family. There could certainly be more shaded seating space in the playground area for adults, so if it's busy you may be better off bringing your own chair. The slides can get extremely hot when it's hot and sunny outside.
