Staff interactions were one of the highlights. Front desk always called us by our last name. Wait staff were more than pleasant. All were helpful. Jean went above and beyond with any need or situation that arose. Jose was great and very informative upon check in. Frederico helped us and directed us to any events or excursions we wanted. Richard the waiter at the restaurant was exceptional. Luce or Lucy was also great in the restaurant. Margoth was very helpful with information about the spa and very sweet. All seem to be excellent employees, well trained and spoke well of the property owners.

Housekeeping was always leaving something extra/special in the room after tidying up. Property was beautiful. It s a small property and not a full size resort. It was very quiet during our September stay. We stayed in a somewhat oversized room that also had an oversized bathroom shower/soaking tub. The walk to your room on the property made it feel very secluded. Heavy foliage all around. Very short walk to the beach. Chairs and hammocks are available. We made a point to be at the beach every morning and evening. The included breakfast was excellent. French press coffee every morning was good. Dinner prices were a little high but the content and quality of food was very good so the price was not a huge deal.

Several animals around the property. Raccoons, howling monkeys, small porcupine, iguanas and a couple cats that are the properties unofficial mascots. No issues with the animals at all. Well, howling monkeys are like roosters in the US. They roost starting around 5am.

Walk in to Tamarindo was about 15 minutes. Bikes are available for free and are a 5 minute or so ride to town. If you enjoy any form of exercise while you re on vacation this works out great.

If you are driving and you plan on arriving after dark get detailed instructions to the hotel. The hotel is in Playa Langosta just outside of Tamarindo. There are very little street lights to guide you. Not many street signs either. Any hotel signage is not lit until you are on property. I also lost my internet connection and gps signal upon entering the town of Tamarindo. Cell phone does not help with directions upon arrival into town.

STUNNING environment, lits of wildlife, private beach. The staff is the BEST, very friendly, accommodating and helpful. The decor was beautiful! You can use the pool all day and night! The villas are fantastic. The draining in the bathtub, drinks and food could be better - but wasnt horrible. Absolutely recommend

My wife and I spent 5 days of our honeymoon at the luxurious Cala Luna resort in April and wish we could go back right now! The hotel is an amazing property and we can't say enough how happy we are with our stay there! It is located about a 3 minute cab ride from the hustle and bustle of Tamarindo. It's a great place to unwind and relax but it's also close enough to Tamarindo to enjoy all the funky little beach town has to offer (great surfing, gift shops, nightlife, restaurants,etc.). The hotel is small enough to have a romantic touch to it but is big enough to provide all the luxuries someone traveling to Costa Rica could need! The hotel staff is amazing and so genuinely friendly(especially Edwin,Eddie, Daniel and Margoth)! The front desk staff is extremely helpful and has trips for all kinds of Costa Rican adventures (we recommend the ATV ride). The food is great and the sunset cocktail hour is amazing. I would definitely recommend Cala Luna to any couple or family traveling to Costa Rica and hope to go back someday!

Beautiful boutique hotel. Nestled in a lush area between Playa Langosta and Playa Tamarindo, walking distance to the beach. Rooms feel authentic, and staff is very gracious. Serene and lovely stay here.

These guys nailed it. Rooms were good, the grounds were great and we loved the beach area being a little different than a typical sandy beach. We did a beach dinner our last night and that's what made the trip. Most romantic thing we've done in 15 years of marriage.

Cala Luna is a little piece of heaven right here on Earth. Here's what I think you will love about it: a) The AMAZING staff who is absolutely focused on your happiness, comfort, and experience. I've traveled the world and stayed in many, many places--Cala Luna's staff (incl. the kitties) is the finest staff I've ever encountered, bar none!; b) The luscious tropical foliage surrounding the meandering pathways are complete with howler monkeys swinging in the trees above -- romantic and peaceful; c) The spacious rooms are comfortable, well-maintained, and expertly cared for by the housekeeping staff (soaking tubs w/showers, ample closet space, a safe; turn down service, etc.); d) The property is just steps away from an expansive but sparsely-populated beach that is a seashell collector's dream, and which plays host to an intimate daily sunset cocktail gathering; e) The dining room staff, where I enjoyed both breakfast and dinner, are consummate professionals who love nothing more than to make your belly happy; f) It's an easy 15m walk into Tamarindo (by road or via the beach), which means at night you're enjoying the sounds of waves and not of people/traffic on Calle Central. Be warned: If you stay at Cala Luna, you will experience Pura Vida; the moment you leave your heart will plead with you to return.

Best place we have ever stayed at for many reasons.
The location of Cala Luna was perfect. Close enough to Tamarindo to walk, (or borrow the hotels bicycles) but just far enough to be nestled into the trees and a 2 minute walk to the tranquil ocean.
The villas were absolutely amazing. Tucked away in the trees, like being in your own private little house. It was so clean and quiet.
I can't say enough great things about the staff. The front desk crew were always so friendly and ready to help wherever they can. The activities planner was so much fun to work with when helping us choose/find activities and day trips that were perfect for us. The food was so delicious, so a special than you to all the chefs and kitchen staff. A shout out to all the bartenders, working so hard to make delicious tropical drinks, and the cocktails at sunset on the beach.
I hope one day I can go back to Costa Rica, and if I do, the only place I will stay at is Cala Luna.

INCREDIBLE! Cala Luna is perfect in every way. A beautiful oasis in the forest, truly connected with nature, beauty and pura vida. From the beautiful villas to the beach and organic food, we enjoyed every minute of our visit. But, what really set this place apart from all others is the amazing staff, that treated us like family from the minute we arrived. Specifically; Rudolpho, Veronika, Federico and John and all the wait staff. Our daughter is on a medical diet and they accommodated our every need, from storing and heating food to ensuring all of their staff knew to take care of us. At the end of our perfect vacation, the airline cancelled our flight and there were no rooms available. John spent more than two hours helping us find another room, arranged transportation and ensured we were taken care of. We cannot wait to return!

What a wonderful experience.

What a wonderful experience.
Best vacation ever!
Ceviche and pancakes the highlight at restaurant.
Liberty and Flor in the Restaurant are so kind and attentive.
Fredrico who arranges tours is an awesome goodwill ambassador and wealth of information.
Let him sign you up for the Lazy Lizard sunset sail.
Snorkeling, whales and some of the best food you'll eat while in CR.
(Luis the Captain and Erick are PERFECTO!)
Only suggestiions would be the shower-heads need to be upgraded to a gentle "Rain" spray versus the painful fire hose spray currently installed.
Color code shampoo, body wash, conditioner, lotion.
Can t read without glasses - too late when naked and wet in shower.
(They are all GREEN bottles with fine print)
Would be nice if they had reusable Plastic cups with lids in the room for use at pool side at the Villas.
A handle on the outside of the sliding door to patio would be nice - no where to grab.
More hooks or places to hang things in bath rooms.
Cannot wait to return and enjoy being pampered again......

The way Cala Luna's Sales department dealt with the COVID crisis was unprofessional, unethical, and unlawful. Cala Luna did not follow their own cancellation policy, and refused to refund any of the amount paid in full (I was unable to stay due to government regulations both in Canada, and Costa Rica), willfully taking money without services provided. The Sales department, unlike any other hotel I have communicated with during the crisis, disregarded my communication attempts and I had to go through the front lines via the hotel. This lack of dignity is incredibly disappointing coming from a place I love and hold dear to my heart (Costa Rica), though moving forward I will NOT recommend this hotel to anyone! Thank you to Visa's dispute department for knowing right from wrong and taking appropriate action.

This is nothing against the front line staff whom were polite and helpful, gracias.

Gorgeous space with a private walk to a phenomenal beach. The tidal pools are great for exploring. Great menu with always interesting and tasty combinations. Upscale so not cheap. But you do get what you pay for here. You get luxury. I highly recommend this quiet and beautiful resort that welcomes everyone.

What an amazing trip this was for us and the Cala Luna staff only made it sweeter! The rooms are luxurious while at the same time being literally nestled in a tropical garden with monkeys, birds, and other wildlife going about. The staff is VERY friendly and always accommodating. One of the best things is they offer shuttle service from the airport and free bike rentals so you don't have to rent a car for groceries, or to go into downtown Tamarindo for shopping, food, etc...

If you're looking for a high-end vacation experience in Costa Rica, check this place out.

Tastefully decorated lobby and rooms. Lush landscape excellent food with fresh ingredients and well/correctly prepared. It's a small piece of paradise in this very westernized town. Most of the ingredients of their restaurant are from the owner's organic farm which is 20 minutes drive outside tamarindo. We did the dinner tour which is an amazing experience. It's an intimate setting with the owner of the hotel and hearing her stories and her projects and visiting the labyrinth. It's worth every minute and every $. The service in the restaurant can be slow not completely their fault as they get quite busy as it's a popular restaurant.
