We ordered appies and within ten minutes our main courses were brought out so we had no chance to enjoy our appies. They took our main courses back but the damage was done timing is everything and. They claimed the kitchen was closing. The restaurant was open till a certain time and shud allow time to enjoy your meals as we are paying a lot of money to there credit the manager and staff came over and apologized and tried to rectify things. The restaurant has been improved of late and is a nice place for an evening out

Over the heritage feel of this beachside hotel. We were there for lunch and found our server to be surprisingly cocky for such a historical venue. He wasn't rude, but only just. Service aside, it's a quaint hotel.

A beautiful older hotel with a lot of history and some beautiful fixtures. Also VERY reasonable cannot beat the location (right across from the beach) and the views from the room!
The front desk staff were very helpful and accommodating allowed us an early check in. Having a drink in the evening in the bar was also lovely.
We got the 3 bed room, which was fabulous for our family. Dog friendly, and staff are great with dogs but also very quiet.
Really enjoyed our stay!

As former bartender at this magnificent Canadian institution I can attest to its brilliance. A meticulously clean and consistent bar, the Sylvia Hotel is home to The Vancouver Cocktail.
Though my tenure was cut short due to an illness in the family. I loved everything about this bar including its wonderful regular guests and management. I once recall a enquiry from Ross (General Manager) to Ryan (Food & Beverage Manager) concerning the cost of toast. Initially I expected him to be looking to raise the price. Though in fact he was concerned that the price may be too high for guests. It turned out that the Sylvia Hotel was by far the most reasonable already. Sincerity and integrity at its absolute finest across the board. Furthermore, Ace is tremendous Bartender, a scholar and a gent!

It remains an honour to have contributed to such a flawless and high-end cocktail bar experience.
Thanks

Great location (right on the beach!), staff was friendly, courteous, and knowledgeable about the area. The hotel is older but the room was very clean and the bed comfortable. It was a little loud at night, but that is due to the hotel location and nightlife and we were not bothered by it.

The rooms are surprisingly spacious and quite for a century old hotel. The location is great, close to many fabulous places to eat, the sea wall, and Stanley Park. Friendly staff and good value. The room was clean. My only negative is that the bathroom is in need of an update.

My family and I stayed here 4 nights in June. It was the PERFECT location (right on English Bay) and the hotel was great. There's no air conditioning so may be too hot for summer and our bathroom needed some maintenance. Friendly staff, comfortable beds, good breakfasts in the lovely diningroom with a view, great evening entertainment and all this at a great price, made up for the bathroom faucet and sink that needed replacing. I would definitely go back!

The Sylvia is a 100 year hotel that is beautiful, graceful, and kept up. I spent four nights there and attended a conference. The staff are generally kind and helpful, especially in the restaurant. the food was excellent at all times, and on more than one occasion the staff went out of there way to help me identify gluten free options. Drawbacks include small rooms, small elevators that don't always work, no air conditioning, weak wifi overall, and other tech limitations for an old structure. The location however compensates grandly. The hotel optimizes views of English Bay, immediately across the street. The open windows fill the hotel with sounds from the beach. It was Beautiful!

Grand old lady! Front desk and room service staff are great. The wait staff, depending on who you got were great. But the restaurant hostess and bartender, on duty on Christmas day, were simply rude.

Love the old building, the location is perfect, and for the most part the staff are great. We will be back.

Excellent location. Rooms vary widely. Too floor is much more spacious and warm. There is no temperature control but space heaters in the closet. Nice spot if you have dogs and want to walk along the beach

I recommend the restaurant in the afternoon, there is a special set of appetizers at half price, super cost-effective, Pacific salad and fried squid and mussels have been eaten several times, the service is good, the scenery is good, and there are live singing Tell you

Beautiful views of English Bay and delicious cocktails. Service is a bit spotty but the atmosphere is nice. Mostly older crowd with some young people sprinkled in. Definitely worth a visit on a sunny afternoon.

Cute and charming motel but missing some finishing touches. My wife and I stayed here for an anniversary weekend. The room was larger than expected but missing some finishing touches. Service was average to better than average. The room service food was pretty good, and my wife thinks their Eggs Benedict was the best she's ever had.

Would stay again as it's located next to Stanley park and within easy walking distance to downtown.

The iconic Sylvia Hotel! If you are visiting Vancouver be sure to have breakfast there. The view of English Bay is beautiful. I was just there this morning and enjoyed the January scenery.

This hotel bar has a long, long history. Many great and strange political events have occurred here over too many cocktails. If you're in the area, grab a drink and mull the past and the future.

The dining room has what might be one of the best views in Vancouver. The menu is a bit tired but we keep going back. Did I mention the view of English Bay. The Sylvia is truely one of Vancouver's landmarks. I can't wait for the food and the menu to improve. It's overall a really comfortable, cosy and casual environment.

SHHH.. DONT TELL EVERYONE!!
This place is lovely, quaint, classy and not too noisy... tell the kids to go to the "practice club" across the street...

I have been staying at the Sylvia for close to 35 years, but may not return. My room was nice, but unheated, with the exception of a small space heater, I found hidden in my walk in size closet, however the closet had no light, so it was fumbling with light from the hall.

However, the biggest problem, which to me is a big problem, was the bed, which definitely had seen better days, it offered no back support, and was most uncomfortable. I was there three nights, and wrote the information about the bed down, along with my name and room number after the first night. I gave it to the desk person the second morning ,who showed absolutely no concern, told me she would let housekeeping know. Nothing was done for the other two nights I was there.

Parking is now also 18 dollars Canadian a night.

Charming bar and restaurant, cosy and inviting. Part of Hotel Sylvia which is very very reasonably priced for such a prized location. Very courteous staff and excellent breakfasts. I would skip any other place for a stay and for a drink when I am in Vancouver. This has to be the best value for your money. Oh ....and EXCELLENT view of english Bay from the restaurant windows.

Great staff! My daughter wanted to see Mr Got to Go. Staff gently explained where he was and then told us about the other two books(which we didnt know about). Great food and beautiful dining area with a breathtaking view to enjoy through huge picture window. A lovely step back in time!

Old world charm abounds at this 1912 gem. Beds are super comfy. Bathrooms on the 8th floor are brand new. Service was top notch and we really appreciated the dog friendly rooms. I appreciated the history with many pictures of the hotel over the last 100+ years. Listen to the song Sylvia Hotel by Cheryl Wheeler.

I live just down the street from this property, and it was my girlfriend s birthday so I decided to treat us at this hotel as part of her birthday gift.

We got a suite with a kitchen and I cooked her dinner.

The view was nice, the weather was great and the experience by and large was fine.

The hotel staff were pleasant, but one of the men that worked there that answered the phone when I called in prior to our arrival was, in all honesty, a little bit much. He went on and on and on about my name, how it was the same name that Jack Nicholson had in some movie, how it was the greatest Jack Nicholson movie ever, and so forth. He overdid it a little bit, and it really just made me want the conversation to end.

Two things that kind of bothered me about the stay. Firstly, when we were checking out, the woman that checked us out seemed more interested in getting us out of the hotel than she did wondering how our stay was. Not a single word asking us if we enjoyed ourselves.
To me, the most important thing that hotel staff can ask a person when checking out is how their stay was, and could anything have been better. Didn t seem to occur to this employee.

The other thing that bothered me a little bit was my girlfriend ended up leaving something in the bathroom, some expensive make up. I called the hotel and asked if they had found it and was told that the housekeeping staff had gone for the night but they would be asked tomorrow and someone would get back to us. Of course, we never heard back, so I m sure it just went into someone s pocket.

Not sure if I would ever stay there again as I say, I live in the neighborhood, and it was a special occasion.
It was fine, but not sure if it was really worth the price of admission. It is a boutique hotel, so they can probably justify a little bit more for the rooms.

Very convinent location, close to the beach and standley park. 10 mins walking to Robinson street, have a lot of food places close by. The hotel itself has a log history same as the rooms, old style design but very clean.

Great!
