Rooms look very luxurious on pictures, but are quite disappointing in real life. Interior is outdated and poorly maintained. Service is okay and breakfast is quite good though. Overall a bit disappointing and does not justify the price.

Unfortunately not such a good experience this time. Unfriendly reception by not very accurate receptionist. Many East European construction workers who stayed in the hotel. The staff discussed things in a loud voice, such as the purchase of a new pan and who had approved it, the use of the staff room as storage and which bread should be put in the freezer and which not, and some things that should also be out of the audience. of guests can be discussed.
Basic things like spa red, cheese platter were gone. No, it was not a best turn.
And that is a shame, because we had really nice experiences there before. Let's hope the hotel survives the corona crisis and gets back on track. Bright point: the food was very fine!
Really nice hotel. It looks amazing and the rooms are really big. The room had a bubblebath and a refrigerator. The breakfast was of great quality too.
Had a delicious high tea here! The employees are very friendly and very quick. Inside there is a pleasant atmosphere with a view of a beautiful garden! Highly recommended! The location is also ideal in the city to come by public transport or walking through the beautiful streets of Groningen
During a three day business trip, I stayed in this lovely old hotel for two nights. I was impressed by the entrance, the beautiful courtyard and the lobby. The receptionist knew after one time which room key I enjoyed staying here in Groningen.
Only downsides were in the room: some dubious stale stripes on the seat of the chair, the musty stuffy air that hangs there, but if you open the window to ventilate, you can see a blank wall within a meter .... and last but not least: very noisy! Luckily I am a solid sleeper ....
A very nice and, above all, quiet city hotel. The jacuzzi is great, you can easily see over one or the other chipped paint. Very friendly and beautifully renovated
What a beautiful hotel. It took some searching by car. Nearby seems to be a private parking area for guests. Check in advance how to get there! Is 19 per day (24 hours) and therefore cheaper than the Q-parks in the area.
We had booked the suite with hot tub and it was perfect. An impressive room, clean, good bed and beautifully decorated. A few downsides: we saw too late that there was still a bathrobe in the room, namely in the cupboard and put in a plastic bag instead of clearly hung on a hanger. The hot tub was blissful, the shower the next morning unfortunately not really very hot. But we would love to come back here anyway. The breakfast is also great, with tea, coffee, water, juice, fruit, various types of fruit, eggs etc very extensive. You walk into the city because of the perfect central location. Highly recommended
The hotel has character but badly needs some attention. There is one thing you definitely want to do in a hotel and that is sleep. Unfortunately that doesn't work here.
The luxury room has a huge Jacuzzi that probably weighs a bit. As a result, there are large cracks at the top of the walls through which you can hear the neighbors and even see the light from their room.
Hospitable, rustic location, surprising inner garden in the middle of the hectic pace of a busy city. Extensive, good breakfast and the donor menu is not large, but therefore the dishes are of excellent quality. At the moment, the corona rules are well observed. So: a cozy and safe hotel that is worthy of the stars.
Beautiful location. Our room is a bit dated and the state of repair is not that good. The room is nice and spacious. The bed is slightly sagged and the pillows have lumps in them. I never understand why hotels do not replace them on time because that never includes the cost of the room. The bed is really the most important thing in a hotel for me. The breakfast was good with various freshly baked breads from their own oven. The service was good too. Complaints about a buzzing heater were immediately and adequately resolved. All in all an average rating because the bed really makes up 80% of the rating for me.
Beautiful building, with cozy wine cellar and friendly service. Room was slightly less beautiful than the pictures, but still slept well. Breakfast was well cared for ..
Not flexible and unfriendly. I had booked a room for a business appointment and this appointment was unfortunately canceled a day in advance (Corona). I wanted to move the night at this hotel, but that was not possible, so now I just stay on the costs. Thanks!
The hotel itself was pretty nice. It was beautiful, luxurious and we even got a jacuzzi in our room, but it was quite clear it doesn't have many visitors. The first night we stayed in a room that had a ventilator on the top of the building. The entire room was shaking because of it. So we had to move rooms in the middle of the night. We got a better room for the last night, so I'm glad they fixed that for us. But, the hygiene was pretty poor.
The worst hotel so far, they are now blacklisted here. Hotel Schimmelpennick was the first time but I will never go there again. A room with a constant buzzing tone where you don't close an eye, how dare you rent it out.
Old building. Cramped steep stairs to the room. I slept incredibly warm in the room on the third floor. Breakfast was okay, nice bread. Room and hotel are neat and clean. Friendly staff.
A building where a piece of history lives, with a top team that does everything to make your stay a beautiful memory. Worthy of a top kitchen star, 2 days had a surprise menu.
A hotel that really needs renovation, room in the front single glass had a lot of inconvenience from outgoing audiences and in the morning from trucks. Breakfast was very well cared for, I would say, look for another hotel.
The nicest hotel we have ever been. Beautiful interior, super friendly staff, wonderfully spacious room (no 38), with beautiful interior, fantastic spacious double bed, delicious food in the brasserie with an excellent waiter. All subsequent times we go to Groningen we will stay here. Rock hard recommended.
My girlfriend and I wanted to spend a few days in Groningen and booked one of the suites in the hotel for around 350 (3 nights - without breakfast). The hotel's own pictures of the rooms were promising and the outside of the hotel made a good impression. Despite the few negative reviews, we were looking forward to a great stay, but were disappointed early on.
*Room* The whole hotel in general and our room in particular are showing signs of age. Plaster that has crumbled off in many places, unpainted areas and cracks on walls, broken ornaments on heating and other furniture spoil the first impression. The negative highlight here was the bathroom. Without a window, completely calcified, the whirlpool - broken from the outside - didn't work properly either (after 20 minutes of testing, at least the jets went, light therapy nil). The pictures speak volumes. The only bright spot: the king-size bed was correspondingly large and comfortable ...
* Personnel / Service * We shared the disappointment with the broken and less clean rooms with the staff, who can hardly do anything for the overall condition of the hotel. At the same time, we were offered the breakfast buffet, charged at 16 / person, as compensation, which we of course accepted, but of course did not solve our room problem. Overall, the staff was extremely friendly, helpful and had the least to do with the unsuccessful stay.
*Breakfast* The breakfast buffet was overall ok to good. Different types of fresh bread, scrambled eggs and bacon, cold cuts and spreads, muesli, coffee and juice as much as you wanted. If you set the price of 16 against this, the whole thing seems like a bad joke!
Overall, the hotel ambience is cozy, the staff friendly and the quality of the food good. The prices are completely excessive and the rooms are old, ramshackle and not really clean.
I cannot recommend the hotel and I will not be back.
Very cozy rustic hotel in the heart of Groningen. Staff is very attentive and very friendly. Restaurant was great. There is a nice outdoor terrace where you can certainly enjoy yourself in the summer.
Very friendly staff! Arrived here via groupon and unlike many other places treated just like any other non groupon customer. They are very sensitive to allergies. The cook even dedicated a whole new marinade to the pad Thai without nightshades! Compliments! The in-house bakery makes it even more fun and delicious!
A high tea organized in honor of a bachelor party. Service good, 1 man in a group of 16 people, little but it ran. A semi-classical high tea; sandwiches of bread that was not fresh, crusts on the bread that do not belong. Tortilla wraps filled with salad. A thick and dry American cookie which the scone had to propose accompanied by vanilla yogurt and thin jam. What do you mean Clotted cream..lasty. Other "goodies"; water-based brownie, nougat, dry carrot cake, white bonbons and a tasty shortbread dish with mouse. Ambiance classic, dark and literally warm because of the fireplace. Cozy party but lack of fresh products and originality
We had reserved a total of four rooms with seven people. The single room was a outrageously expensive broom cupboard. Furthermore, a great welcome and a good varied breakfast that was also refilled adequately. Would be nice if the experience for a single next time is just as good as that for the couples.
Beautiful antique building and decoration located ideally in the city centre. However the restaurant service has a lot to improve; all unoccupied tables were full with empty glasses and dishes. Had to signal waiter multiple times and finally took our order after 15 min.
Room 35 is hell. Hot, it stinks sometimes (I think because of throwing waste outside), because of the heat and annoying stuffiness you have to open the window, but outside there is a lot of noise from students (in itself logical) and a device that starts to hum loudly (air conditioning?) . Feeling trapped because there is a view of a wall, and if your window is open against the stuffiness, you have to be careful because there is an escape grid running past your window, where your neighbors (at 1 meter distance) can stand inside with you. Won't happen but not a nice feeling when you sleep. At the head end a socket with a plug that is half open, dangerous to life! I marked the points but all other rooms were full. Room is otherwise old but clean. Beds are a bit through. Hotel is also super cool, totally my taste. The staff is friendly and helpful. But the room is oh such a shame. :( Breakfast: lots of flies and sticky tables. Great choice of food. Not worth money though.
Had not had a great night's sleep of which only a part through the hotel. One of the blackout curtains missed making the street gave the idea that I was in a tanning bed. At 2 o'clock the people came out of the bar and stayed under my window. At 4 pm, the police arrived with sirens wailing along and I six hours the road was cleared.
We had a great time, we stayed in the deluxe room to use the jacuzzi. Going out was literally one street away so it was top notch and no nuisance (which you would expect). Near the martini tower and the bustling city center. Personally, I thought the restaurant was too culinary, but it was nice to have dinner that way. I definitely recommend people to book a room here.
Booked the Cozy room which was a bit more expensive. Sat on the street side and had a lot of noise all night long until we asked the reception to call the police, this was at 4:15 am. The photos do not correspond to the rooms offered. Bathroom is in poor condition with dirty shower curtain. We had booked two rooms for the same price, rooms were very different. One room had a minibar and the other did not. In short we would not book this hotel another x.
We were surprised what an excellent dinner we got. At breakfast, various types of bread from their own bakery straight from the oven. Compliments for the hospitality.
Perfect place with amazing ambience and super localization - in d heart of the old town! Rooms are big, very clean and comfortable. Staff are very helpfull and friendly. I will back here in future.
A Shadow of its former glory. Old hotel but badly maintained. Smells funny in some places. Small and soft beds, didn't get a good night's sleep. Breakfast was OK, homemade bread which was very good, and staff were friendly. I will not visit again
Finally a weekend with his, we were so looking forward to it. Unfortunately, the fungus ninckhuys was a terrible downer. We booked for a weekend with breakfast, dinner, a treat in the room and a deluxe room. In the evening, we arrived late after we had been to a wedding, we arrived in a musty room, it appeared that the air conditioning was in need of maintenance, the device indicated. Then we entered a room that dates from the time of my great-grandparents and was absolutely nothing like the promised luxury room. Everything was outdated and poorly maintained. In the bathroom we found mold and paint falling off the walls. The shower was also so calcified that a piss stream came out and the water ran badly through the drain. Then go to sleep. We had just been lying for 15 minutes or an unbelievable noise really scared us. An air conditioning unit on our roof that thumped all night and then again did not creak and there he started again ... The next morning we immediately filed a complaint, which, however, was not possible in writing at the reception, but only by email. the manager. We were also immediately kindly advised to check out if the room was not to your liking, an alternative was not negotiable. We still had breakfast, but no live cooking as we were told, but it was good. After checking out we filed a complaint asking for a reasonable compensation. However, the manager was not charmed by this and we received from the 400 euros we paid, only 105 in return. We have never experienced anything so bad and customer unfriendly! Absolutely advise against!
