A relaxed hotel, an oasis of peace in the inner garden. Good food, friendly staff.
We had a High Tea here but we didn't like it because: there was no staff who received us for the High Tea, the waiter had very dirty spots on his waistcoat, our dietary requirements were not known, vegetarian initially got chicken soup, there was a piece of plastic in my smoothie, no savory cake served despite promise, the chocolates were really not homemade and at the end all the staff were gone and we just left. Fortunately we had a discount coupon because the whole amount was really not worth it.
The hotel exudes faded glory. The service is excellent but the overdue maintenance is not to be missed. Fix it up? Perhaps better rebuild the whole thing thoroughly. Patches and wipes no longer suffice here. The room was decent but the bathroom faucet could not change position and I found small dark curls in both the bath and the sink. Unfortunately, the prices were not stuck in time, although the four free bitterballen and the once again said excellent service were more than worth the visit. Tip: If you come by car, definitely reserve a spot in their garage. You won't regret it.
Great hotel with a great atmosphere because it's an old building. With own garage opposite. Room and bed very good. We were completely satisfied, at first had concerns about arriving because of some reviews, but it didn't turn out that way.
Breakfast could be improved.
Hotel in the middle of the city, possible traffic noise, otherwise very cozy and warm hotel.
Last weekend booked a weekend at this hotel. It is a very old building that exudes a lot of power, but personally I think it is time for renovation in some places. Our room was really beautiful, the marble floor looks sleek and a super chill in the bathroom. A bit crazy to shower in the middle of a jacuzzi, but that will be my fault. We had booked through luxuryhotelcompany and through there we could use 1 x free of charge a surprise menu, well if you really want to be surprised you should go for that, but I think duck liver, veal cheek and veal loin not so my thing but in consultation we were allowed of course free to choose a dish from the menu, thanks for this. :) In terms of breakfast, you simply have too little, hot drinks such as tea and / or coffee or orange juice, 3 types of bread and relatively little toppings, very unfortunate but all in all we certainly enjoyed ourselves.
Great service, nice atmosphere. The breakfast buffet is top class. If you get a chance to book a three-course meal with your stay, you are in for a treat!
I have never stayed here myself, but guests I have accommodated here were unanimously enthusiastic.
Dated rooms. The beds are "slept in": fully sagged mattresses.
Close to the centre.
Had been there before and was satisfied then. Atmosphere and location really great but this time I was disappointed. Price-quality ratio just isn't right for me. Was really in a very small room for a relatively large amount of money, without hair dryer, toilet paper not in order, no extra down, broken lamp and snowy television. The shower floor was also leafed. It would be a quiet room but due to the noise of the pigeons it was not so quiet. The breakfast looked scanty for 16.50 (price-quality?) So I did not take that. So not so satisfied this time.
Good service, luxurious rooms and even good adjustments in Covid time, which really makes it feel like a holiday.
We were here for a chocolate making workshop. That was very nice, however, the hygiene in the kitchen was hard to find. Dirty floor, sticky walls, rancid stairs. That was very unfortunate because it is such a beautiful building, but now mostly past glory.
Nice building and nice location. Staff is sometimes a bit slow, sat in the garden once and then nobody came.
Very nice charming hotel in the heart of the city! Old, here and there some renovation work needed but above all atmospheric. Good full breakfast. Nice courtyard
Had a "de luxe room".
Old chic. 2 person jacuzzi.
On the street side so a lot of noise from the public.
Ear plugs available at reception.
But if you want to sit in the center, I don't think you should complain about this. Restaurant we found not recommended. Limited choice and some on the pricey side. All in all had a very nice stay.
Romantic, easily accessible (garage), excellent care and right in the center
It all looks beautiful inside. Lunch is also well taken care of. Perfect location right in the city.
A nice ambience, very friendly service and a fantastic 4-course menu, great value for money
Hotel with excellent location right in the center of Groningen. Friendly staff and good food.
The hotel is clearly falling into disrepair, the paint is peeling everywhere, broken mirrors and trousers tiles. Regarding maintenance is clearly a considerable backlog that must be made up because that is not possible for the price.
Nice hotel, really something special. Nostalgic, atmospheric. Rooms clean and good bed. Breakfast was great. Parking is a thing and not a hotel if you have difficulty walking
We were walking through the beautiful city of Groningen and we went here for a drink. My wife ordered a dry white wine. The wine first arrived in a glass with lipstick or lip imprints still on the rim, so we asked for another. The second More
Good location for eating or for example a reception. Not in a very busy location, but central so good on foot or on the bike. Good price / quality ratio
Wonderful Hotel with unique charm. Excellent food and perfect location made our stay unforgettable
Eaten here with work, main dishes buffet very bad (cold) and beer in dirty glasses (foam immediately gone)
Really nice hotel, friendly staff, and very well located
Downtown. Difficult parking. Is in dire need of a makeover (fire department must also take a look, lots of crawl-through-sneak-through). Can see that it is a student city. Good food by the way and a great breakfast.
Fantastic hotel with its own bakery and a very nice inner garden. Right in the center of Groningen. Staff is super nice and professional.
Very cozy environment, unfortunately there is not much attention for guests outside the restaurant
Spent a night here with my partner. Stayed in a luxury room WITH BUBBLE BATH. Excellent service, always someone present at the reception if you have questions.
It was a very nice stay in a beautiful historic building. The staff was very helpful and friendly. The food was delicious and any allergies were taken into account. Definitely worth booking once!
Had a high tea here this afternoon. Was very tasty just a lot less than the site indicates .. (no savory pie and no round with desserts) Too bad, we waited a while for the next round, but it turned out not to come .. We cannot repeat that!
More than great food, excellent service! Atmospheric dining.
This hotel is faded glory. The paint has peeled off in many places, the carpet is worn, the wooden floor is scratched and the bathroom is getting dated. We had the 'suite' which is indeed a large room with a whirlpool bath, but lags behind the suites in other hotels in details. Please note that the rooms have no air conditioning and can get very hot in the summer. The staff are friendly and helpful.
Nice hotel. Historical elements. Just breakfast buffet. Romantic rooms.
Actually a very nice hotel, with a great location. The staff is very friendly. Unfortunately, the cleanliness is very poor, so is in the minibar mold, the whirlpool does not seem very well maintained, generally everything a bit rocked. Empty wine bottles in decorative vases. The furniture is getting old.
Beautiful building a nice spot to have a drink but food is overpriced for what you get.
Nice staff, apparently clean room, but very dated, very noisy. Photos do not correspond to reality. Warm water up in the evening. Beds where the individual springs were pliable. Food in the room, food was tasty but small portion. It could have been so beautiful, but unfortunately just not.
Staff very friendly and accommodating. Kitchen really delicious. Breakfast buffet varied and great homemade bread. Central location is great. Connection to Assen to DutchTT flawless. Our room was bright and cozy.
The staff is very friendly. The hotel is conveniently located and has a cozy courtyard where you can eat well. The room was just not very clean. There will be a lot of mold on the window frames and curtains. The bathroom also had a lot of mold under the toilet rim and in the kit around the bath. Our room was on the street side and was very noisy. In the bathroom you could hear the upstairs neighbors toileting and especially at night we had some inconvenience from the nightlife crowd. It is a beautiful monumental, old building, and this is therefore to be expected.
The hotel says that your room is cleaned less often (only after two nights) to comply with the corona measures. Then breakfast is served in the form of a breakfast buffet, which suddenly is not taken into account.
Great ambience and service, unfortunately no air conditioning
The hotel staff often does not answer the phone at reception. Even the emergency will not lift. The hotel has incredibly steep stairs and so is a problem with children. The elevator is very small and you squeeze in it. The room has only cold tiles without carpet. The food is excellent and the staff tries. But you can avoid the hotel by arching, sleep here! The music was still very loud across the street at two in the morning. When asked when the night was quiet, she replied that even the police would not solve it. If you have to drive a 700km road the next day, it is accommodation for life. The hotel has no garage. One is a bit, but 25 EUR per day. The city is for fun, but prefer an apartment in a hotel outside the center. The hotel is surrounded by surroundings and cannot be affected. Therefore, do not take.
Friendly fun place. Smooth service and delicious food. What does a man want more.
This is really past glory. Much broken, noisy, dirty, there is really no cleaning either.
What a pity for such a beautiful building and good location. Food on the other hand was great.
Neat hotel. Nice room. Good beds. We were even unexpectedly given a bitter garnish in the interior garden
Typical hotel in the center of the city
Nice eaten five-course menu, also a tasty and extensive breakfast buffet
The Easter brunch was a bit simple and we had to wait half an hour for two glasses of white wine that weren't even cold either.
Good location in the city center. Rooms and furniture look a bit old, but charming. Great breakfast.
Seen outside it is pretty. Inside it's beautiful. Clean. Quiet despite the Ostra camera giving on the street. The first night it was raining and we had dinner here. A great dinner! Friendly staff. Varied and abundant breakfast. I will recommend it.
This hotel has a distinct look of something that used to be grand but the (finer) maintenance has been neglected for a while. I hope it gets a chance to rebound. The rooms are quite classy and the baths were very nice. The breakfast was ok and the service left something to be desired.
Very nice old hotel in the middle of the city center of Groningen. Very nice staff. Breakfast was delicious with freshly baked bread. The only downside was that it was freezing in the room; and there was no heating :(.
During the surprise menu waited an hour for the main course, they forgot about us, the food was nice. Towels were not replaced, no one has been at all to clean up the room. During breakfast all tables were wiped clean with a cloth without being rinsed. Not really hygienic.
Great hotel in the center of the city of Groningen.
The hotel impresses with the great downtown location. It is clean and very nice staff. The pigeons in the courtyard a problem. Running over set tables. The service staff is constantly cleaning. Our room was spacious More
Lovely terrace. (only had coffee, but the food on the other tables looked appealing)
Name matches the room "mold in the corner".
Bathroom was designed for tensioners ... nice window to the hotel corridor.
Breakfast was good.
Rest rather less
Here the symbiosis between luxury and cultivated coziness has succeeded.
Very courteous service, with excellent cuisine :)
friendly personell, beautiful garden, comfy bed, good meals.
Very nice hotel, with friendly staff, nice rooms with jacuzzi, and the food is top.We will definitely be back.
Nice hotel. Friendly staff but somewhat dated rooms.
Rooms 57 and 58 are completely uninhabitable due to the ventilation system being on the roof and turning on and off every few minutes, making the entire room shake. We got a new and bigger room at 1am, since we couldn't sleep at all. The service and people were nice though. The rooms were comfortable, the jacuzzi was absolutely great. The rooms could be a little cleaner and there are a few minor things that could be better. All in all was a pretty decent visit.
We stayed at the Hotel Schimmelpenninck for two days. It was absolutely fantastic. We had booked a suite; this was very generous. A couch and an armchair in front of the TV cabinet were complemented by a stylish coffee table. The king-size bed was under a red canopy. In the bathroom floors and walls were lined with marble and the absolute highlight was the jacuzzi for two. Everything was nice and clean.
Breakfast was also very good, with home-made bread from their own bakery.
The staff was always very friendly and accommodating. You really felt welcome.
It was perfect stay.
If you like nostalgia and a castle ambience, this is the right place to feel like a king or queen!
Single room was very small but had a nice layout. Without bathroom door was a bit apart and the heat did not work, so there was an electrical heatertje it did reasonably. Breakfast was good, by the way.
Food is formidable !! Authentic atmosphere. Very hospitable staff.
Coronaproof surprise baby shower arranged at Schimmelpennick for pregnant women and partners. Warm people who think along and have let us decorate. Well settled. It is only a pity that the bill that I would pay afterwards, as agreed, was still paid by the pregnant woman. Very unfortunate that should not have been and it came across as very silly.
Very satisfied with our two days here. Everything looked neat, no problems encountered. The room was a bit on the warm side, but not so warm that it became uncomfortable.
Really nice and decent room. Small, cosy and comfortable. In the downtown groningen. So basically a small walk away from all the good places.
The staff is friendly. The room cozy. High tea was below average.
We expected a quirky hotel, however it s not on point. We did not feel a generous welcome by their staff. They also tried to charge us almost triple the price for parking our car. The beds were uncomfortable. The bathtub had strange stains so we did not dare to use it. The refrigerator made such a loud noise that I had trouble sleeping. If you want to be depressed, book this hotel.
