A dirty, violent, prejudice homeless shelter. After spending time there on the floor and not being allowed to sleep on the couch. I have a torn rotator cuff, back surgery, a broken bone in my wrist, and severe arthritis in both hands and knees. A heart attack within the last year. Medical documentation for all of it, and 3 empty beds available in case a family came in. I begged to get off of the two inch mat on the floor, and they made no provision for met. My granddaughter was with me, sharing these conditions. They are being funded by people that don't know how they treat other people, and funded by the government. The employees get paid and do their jobs poorly. Drug deals in the parking lot, and lax security.
Not the least bit interested in helping my daughter.. it looks like a good program and I'd called ahead to confirm availability.. but once there ? Not a good experience for her
Great friendly staff a safe warm place to go when your out of options
Whorst shelter ever they mix children with drunks and alcoholics my kids watched a few people get dragged out to detox and fist fights wirh the man witch they do nothing about .they had no food to eat unless a volunteer showed up
It's not that i dislike it. It's that it's changed. I was there(in-house) 7 years ago. We had a lot more rules & restrictions. Some people couldn't abide w/that. Those people came & went & quite often again & again. I was happy(maybe a little bit strong of a word) 4 the rules. I probably wouldn't b alive, if it wasn't 4 HALO. I've been in their housing program 4 7 yrs now. I wish my neighbors had 2 follow the same rules i do.
Very friendly, acknowledge able of what they're doing.
Fed good, but secure your own stuff while sleeping .
Great community program. Excellent responsive staff but like most organizations that help those who seriously need food and shelter their resources are limited and when someone has to be turned away for that reason a bad review is sometimes posted. They want to assist people to get back on their feet. They are not just a handout shelter. I stand by them 100%
Halo opens their doors to as many people as they can. They're able to point their clients in whatever direction they need, all while providing meals and shelter. Even when the population was soaring past 150 to 170 people in crisis, Halo refused to shut their doors.
It serves its purpose well, helping out the homeless with shelter and services but the environment went down drastically when they started letting the inebriated in.
Not the best accommodations but the staff has spirit. Real people.
Was not clean. Was crowded with stuff. The staff was really nice.
I believe that it's great, if people are homeless that they are definitely getting them out of the cold and at least have place to go to sleep.
They are discriminatory based on silly things like marital status and try to split up families that don't have that. They will check more then the policy, won't allow outside food and supplies. The staff are treating people as inferior if the director isn't around. There is suspicion that the staff may be stealing from "clients". They also treat folks like dirt, and it is very akin to being in jail with the restrictions. They are also mentally abusive towards the "clients". They also don't check donations to the point that things like needles and other questionable things end up being unknowingly handed to "clients" in coat pockets. There is also suspicion that the staff is all the good reviews on here. There is definitely infestation of pest bugs (bed bugs and lice at the moment). I have this on authority of folks who have needed to make use of their services. If you can, go almost anywhere else.
Homeless shelter that favors those that are regulars.
I was homeless and they took me in an treated me with respect..I'm a trans woman, and they had my back.. thanks for helping me in my time of need..
Visited an employee here. Would rather sleep in my car.
If you are looking for a way to be helpful in Racine, this is a great place to donate to be certain your contribution will actually be used for those in need right here in your community.
Worst experience of my time there. People are abused and I took video of the abuse and staff. They made me leave and called the police for videotape the incidents. I tried to send the video to the police and they threatened me with violence.
