Very small rooms. Very old. Felt like a cheap Florida hotel. Very disappointed. Checked out early. Not at all typical Holiday Inn Express quality.
Took 45 minutes to check in 3 people...with a reservation. Super frustrating that the staff didn t know how to do their job and seem to care.
We checked into our room and when I put my water in the fridge, has a bug crawl out on me. My husband checked and to the side of the fridge was a ton of cockroaches. We ran out of there as fast as possible. The manager was downstairs and when we told her, she didn t seem very shocked or concerned, she just told us to request a different room at the desk. The desk worker again barely seem shocked or concerned and just gave us a different room. Our new room was dirty and had a funny smell from the bathroom. I cleaned it myself with shower gel and a washcloth and it seemed to improve a little, but the shower curtain was covered in mold & mildew. I barely slept because the thought of bugs crawling on me at night couldn t get out of my head. When I finally did get to sleep, the construction would start- bright and early in the morning. There isn t a beautiful view like the pictures appear, you re staring at a construction site next door. This was by far the worst hotel I have ever experienced.
We were there during Irma... Staff is A+ they hold a happy hour for guests and pets.. Staff were at their best, specially David who was all over taking care of everyone... Great job in difficult times.. Thumbs up ..
My wife and I stayed at this Holiday Inn October the 8th to the 9th first of all the building was very dated.something must be wrong the photos on the internet look nothing like the building itself .the biggest problem we had was the air conditioner in the room there were no place on the unit to adjust just steady cold air coming out all night and very very noisy never will stay there again the building needs a serious makeover.
Good place, nice breakfast and pool! Construction near by made Uber pick up tough...
The room was fine. Nothing special. No views. The hotel itself is a nightmare to get to from the road and to make matters worse there is basically no parking nearby. They have a shady/half built parking structure when their tiny parking lot is full (which is always) and it's a walk for sure. I feel bad because staff seemed great and this isn't their fault but the company's fault. Honestly I would spend the extra $ and get a better deal closer to downtown. Oh and tons of roaches while walking from the parking garage back to the hotel...
Nice place, great rooms, but we weren't able to check into our room until 6pm. We were supposed to meet with some people at 4 so a shower after traveling would have been nice. I would have given a better review but 6pm check in was a bit much.
Im an uner driver i dont ever stay here but all my customers i pick up from this hotel seem to love there stsy through and through
The amenities were lovely. A little farther out of town than expected. Being a little more than a mile away from the city center we expected to be able to walk to downtown. If you are willing to walk beside a highway, go for it. Rooms were nice and quiet and the beds were comfortable. I want to know where I can find pillows like they had!
We have had to stay here on several occasions in the past few months. It is almost like staying with caring family members.
Good place, alot of the nearby area is under construction, but it's not too far from the good part of Charleston
Very clean. Courteous staff. Only negative is the air conditioner was loud which could be a problem if you are a light sleeper.
Clean and comfy, building a parking garage for the hotel next door so it's a little hard to get in and out right now but is a nice place to stay.
Great place to stay. New, very clean. The only issue we had was pets. We asked about the pet floors, they told us 1 and 2 nd floors only. We were on the 3 rd floor and someone next to us had a big dog that kept barking. Kept us up a little. Don't get me wrong, love dogs, have a big lab, but the hotel should have had them on another floor. Other than that, it was good.
Great breakfast in the morning. They have a problem giving you towels. Had to explain to the maid that I needed two large towels because we had two adults in the room. First night had only one towel. Had to ask to have my trash taken out. I will not stay at this place again.
Staff was hangry...got told by a beautiful strong black woman that i had committed the cardinal sin of reaching in the muffin box without the tongs at breakfast. Forgive me i hadnt had my first cup of coffee. The stay was ok for a overnight. Not enough parking and information on the parking garage was vauge. Behind the hotel or beside? There were two parking garages?? Oh, and icing on my "handled" breakfast muffin, something went wrong with the pancake maker as i was first told it was empty. Now whose hangry? Big black water stain in the ceiling of the room. Last night i felt that i might say something at checkout, but i feel reluctant now as the morning staff seems like they all have something bothering them, oh yeah, the guests are making mess in the cafeteria. On second thought, i think im being punished because i didnt use tongs because they have been refilling that pancake maker for like 25 min now...shower could have been cleaned a little better, or maybe it was just age stain, dunno.
Bath and body works samples were nice, comfy bed, breakfast was ok, just no pancakes for my girlfriend. Not sure about you orange juice tho. May have turned. Convenient location for our adventure in Charleston sc. Now off to see the Yorktown!
Nice comfortable! breakfast include in package pool, exercise room mainly nice staff
Redeeming factors: room was clean and water was hot, hot.
Very close to MUSC. Publix and good fast food options in close, walking distance. Not so good factors: heater TOO LOUD and the layout of the room (bathroom has two doors opening into the sitting room and the bedroom-not big enough for that) Not enough light in the room. Hard to explain but too many dark corners.
Clean and friendly staff, pricey for the stay with the pool out of order.
Cleaning staff took forever to clean. Got back at THREE and still haven't got to our room. The rooms were very small and bathroom was extremely small. I would recommend a hotel closer to downtown as nothing is in walking distance.
Great hotel. Convenient location for the price . Only problem is it's in a weird spot with lots of construction sites.
Poorly maintained, not particularly clean and understaffed. Stay elsewhere if you can!
good staff and over all no complaints but hotel doesn t look nearly as nice in person as on the website, I ll attempt to add a photo.
I came to Charleston for an interview, and as a student, usually stay at low budget places. The price was reasonable for this hotel, and everything inside was clean, updated, and nice. I had no issues with anything. Parking is a little bit tight, as the lot fills up, but there were still available spaces. It is worth noting that I did not take advantage of any of the facilities, such as the exercise room. Breakfast served in the morning was far better than any other hotel breakfast I've had. They were omelets, cinnamon rolls, and other things that were a nice break from the usual continental breakfast.
The Hotel was not what was promised. I asked for a refund and was told no problem. It has been a problem, the hotel will not refund my money. They hang up on me or will not answer the front desk Phone. Please do not make the same expensive mistake I made.
Close to MUSC and Roper Hospitals and Joe Riley Park
We stayed here many nights while we had a loved one in Roper Hospital. Clean typical HI Express located close to the hospitals, and walking distance to Joe Riley Park baseball stadium. Rooms are clean, free breakfast in morning is good with the standard HIE items.
Even if you are looking to tour more of the historic district, this property is not far from the historic district, and you save a lot of money, plus much better than staying in North Charleston. Staff were friendly. Rooms on river side have great view of Ashley River.
Warning this is not a Riverfront view. Not a Riverfront view. I cannot stress this enough not a Riverfront View. The views I posted is what you see. On the other side is a large tall building with a parking garage at Publix and appears to be some Condominiums mixed in the building. As you can see the air conditioning unit had some sort of Hmong or fungus or something. The door bottom is cut so low that you can actually see the lights streaming in from the hallway. There's also what appears to be mildew along the edges of the ceiling and walls. This is not what you want. I had a handicap placard they ran out of parking space. And I was told to park across the street of the Publix building we shall refer to and just walk back to the Holiday Inn Express. There is parking at you will see from my photo but that doesn't belong to the Holiday Inn Express and you will be ticketed and towed. So don't park there. This again is not a waterfront view. Someone build a building in front of whatever room have a waterfront view. The other view is that of construction buildings and a McDonalds. I will say the breakfast was delightful plentiful constantly being refilled and replenished. Other than that really not worth the money that we paid from October 12th to October 14th when we left. Again again this is not a waterfront View.
Love this hotel. All the staff are Wonderful and the rooms are very clean and comfortable
Everything is clean and very sofisticated, only complaint is the very small balcony for our room.
We had a non-smoking area and someone on our level smoked a lot and could smell it's through out the whole floor the front desk did apologized and gave my husband reward points since he's a IHG reward member which was nice. Also the rooms needs Updating not the best holiday inn that's for sure.
Terrible. The hotel is poorly maintained. The headboard on our bed fell off after we moved the bed slightly and now they're blaming us and charging us for it. This is not fair. Beyond that, The breakfast is crowded and they don't serve enough food for their occupancy - we went to McDonalds next door. It was also very loud, the walls are thin and we could hear people in the halls all night. Also the location was not good because of all the construction going on, hard to find the hotel entrance. We will never stay at this hotel again, and likely not a Holiday Inn Express ever again. Plenty of other good options in Charleston.
No parking spaces due to all the construction work around hotel
Booked online. Get here it too. They have for me is a dog room. Smells terrible. Within 5 minutes In room my wife has had a flea hump on her. Front desk won't help or help transfer to another holiday inn express in area. Ruined my first day here!!!!! Thanks
Well organise hotel, not so close to Charleston down town
Room with a view was just a view of construction, Uber drivers cancelled because they didn't know where the building was, overall area around it was bad and made it inconvenient.
Will be much better after construction is finished. most comfortable beds!!!
Staff very friendly and welcoming. Room below standards...ceiling in bathroom was dusty and bowed down, and we were missing a closet door. We were given a pet room at the end of the hall, it was hot and smelled of old wet dog. Air conditioning didn't function as well as it could.
Location isn't very great, but everything is close by. The breakfast was average, coffee is great, room is very clean, and the bed is AMAZING!
The entrances/exits are not very convenient from the parking. Lots of construction around the hotel and surrounding area. It really disrupts traffic in and out of the hotel. Rooms are clean. Staff is friendly. Key cards are easily de-magnetized.
Despite the construction and parking limitations the stat was pleasant. The staff was great from checking in to Checking out.
Room was extremely small. The bathroom did not have a bathtub, which with the health of my son and having 2 small children a tub was needed. The construction going on around the building was very loud, even throughout the night and took away from parking.
They were flexible with the check-out, parking, with my dogs, etc. The amenities and attention to detail was nice. Staff was always extremely sweet and willing to go above and beyond to help. Balcony "view" was terrible, but I wasn't there for a view. It was affordable, clean, comfortable, and in a great location. Highly recommend!
Shabby and tons of construction going on extremely close to the hotel. Even if there wasn't construction, the room was way overpriced
Excellent staff and attention, stay lasted Hurricane Irma, the staff always attentive, offering activities for guests and their pets, never lost the smile and good treatment
Very comfortable lodgings . Splendid service during my stay in Charleston.
Aesthetically, the hotel was nice (Aside from my towel rack coming off the wall the second I walked in my room). However, the surrounding area and the maintenance and housekeeping staff were very questionable. My first night, I was woken up to a member of the hotel staff blasting music from their car out back for 30 minutes (he had probably just gotten off his shift). The second day I came back to my room to realize that yes my sheets had been changed but somebody had gone through my things and SMOKED A CIGARETTE IN MY ROOM! There was no doubt about it because it reeked. I can only assume it was a member of the staff because nobody else had a key to my room. I went to the front desk to let them know and instead of offering to switch my room, the gentleman told me "you wont be charged for that". The fact that the bed was comfortable, the ac and shower worked, and I had a television are the only reasons I give it 2 stars. Other than that I was not happy with my stay and even for the low rate would not recommend anyone stay here unless there is nothing else available.
Great service. Great price deals. The area around them was under construction when I was there so it was a bit noisy through out the days but that's to be expected and they told me about it in advance. Wish the dog area was a little bigger but that may be because of the construction.
Hotel from hell. Arrived just at check in, 3pm. There was a group of guests waiting in the lobby because no ones room was ready. As I waited for my room to become available, any new guests who arrived where greeted with sorry, it s going to be a minute. We don t have any rooms ready yet. They were not greeted and then told this, they were not asked for their reservation information or a friendly hello. The rooms are old, extremely dingey, and not clean. When I first got into my room and checked it, there was a pube on one of my towels and the toilet. The adjoining door in my room to the next room does not fit the frame so there is a gap. My phone does not call the front desk. That button doesn t work and when calling the concierge , it gives me the option to choose front desk and then goes dead. There is no thermostat to control the loud air conditioner. At 3am I couldn t sleep so was on my phone and noticed three, tiny, red BEDBUGS on my pillow. I tried to turn on my flights to look at the sheets and none of the lights in my room would turn on!! Only the bathroom light. I ran down to the front desk and was told there was nothing they could do until the manager got in in the morning because they were sold out and couldn t move me to another hotel because she couldn t guarantee it would be covered.
Had to switch rooms, because first one was dirty. Parking was full. Front desk was friendly and helpful.
Reina can unis amigos but I did not stay there. I found the lobby clean and beautiful.
Stayed here while daughter was having heart surgery..
My son and I stayed at this hotel on February 13th, arriving after a long drive from Tampa, FL. Front desk staff was very nice. We get to our room however, and quality started to to downhill. I go in the bathroom to turn on the shower and there are hairs, various types, in the shower. No worries, I just washed it down the drain. Then my son pulls back his bedcovers and there was black fuzz all in his sheets and long hairs as well. I was inclined at first to give it the benefit of doubt until I pulled back my own sheet and found not only wet looking stains but a blood stain as well. That is flat out not okay. That s a problem with cleanliness and sanitation. When I called to report this to the front desk, they were at first going to send sheets as if the expectation was I remake the bed myself. When I told them that they needed to send someone up in addition to the sheets as I was in no way making the Bed for whose use I was paying, They did switch us rooms and the second room was very clean. But I am so beyond appalled and disgusted by the lack of attention in the cleaning regime. This is definitely something that needs to be addressed. We were still charged the full night rate despite all of this and it has left me feeling completely gobsmacked that the reaction was so nonchalant to blood on the sheets!
Avoid. Feels like they've given up trying at this old hotel.
Stayed there recently with the kids on spring break... The hotel was clean... Breakfast was good and the front desk people were very nice. Hotel was quite and pool was clean. I would stay again.
If you want desk staff to make you feel as though you are inconveniencing her to do her job and ensure you have a welcoming stay. Then this is a great place to go. If you have just completed a long day of work and love the feeling of rudeness and duck face when you show that you have a reservation number and she still tells you that you will get the higher rate, well you're in luck. Holiday Inn Charleston is just what you need. If you are a corporate member of IHG, I would recomend looking into this.
Room service not always available.
Parking problems as construction work is going.
Noisy... construction, planes, traffic! Was told on phone pet fee was one price for all three days then they charged us 50.00
for each day. (Kennels don't even charge that much) beds are the only plus. Air conditioner only worked the first day... needs some updating..Will not stay there again.
This place is nasty! Has roaches, mold around the a.c. unit. Will never stay there again!
Good hotel, but far for downtown. You need your own car or 50 minutes walking. We recommend Uber serviceinstead of taxi to go to downtown or to the beach.
Probably the worst hotel Ive stayed at in a looong time.
The hallways smell musky and old. The rooms are dirty, with a sliding door that doesnt open and looks like it hasnt been washed in years. The bathroom fixtures are filthy and falling apart. The bed has springs sticking into your back and huge dents in random spots, just awful.
No one has come to clean so Im assuming they just dont have any such service or dont care. There is only one staff member working evenings so if you need anything you will be walking to get it from downstairs.
There isnt even a safe in the room. The AC is super loud so you cant have it on at night, but the bathroom doesnt have a fan so it gets very humid inside.
Oh, also there is nowhere near enough parking for everyone in tiny downstairs lot.
This place is horrible. Ill be canceling my ihg cards and memberships after this.
Very dated to be considered a 3 Star. Lots of construction around the property that made it a tad difficult to get to.
THIS HOTEL IS AWESOME! The breakfest is great. The rooms are nice with pillows that will make you sleep beautifully. Special thanks to tina aka titi and Andre. Yall we the coolest people i even talked to while i was down there. Thanks for making me feel like i was at home.
Nice location for pricing. Rooms could be a little cleaner though.
Stay somewhere else. Feels dirty. Small rooms. VERY loud, old air conditioning units in rooms. Tiny shower. Incompetent staff. Stay. Somewhere. Else.
A nice place for a couple day stay clean rooms and good food
Rooms aren't super updated but everything else is amazing. Waiting staff at breakfast!
I chose to stay at this hotel because I always know what to expect when staying at a Holiday Inn. It s usually a very reliable brand and I can trust the quality I ll be receiving. This is not the case for this specific location and I will no longer be trusting the brand. The hotel is very old and outdated. It s very dirty all over. They said there was no smoking on the property but several times our room and hallway filled up with cigarette smoke and marijuana smoke. It got so bad, we couldn t stop coughing and had to leave. Another reason I like Holiday Inn s is the breakfast is usually pretty good. Especially compared to other hotels complimentary breakfast. This hotels breakfast was awful. All food items that were suppose to be hot were served so cold that I m not even sure they were cooked. The bacon, eggs, sausage and other hot food items felt like they were just taken out of a fridge. The part we struggled with the most was parking. There was never any parking available near the hotel. We had to walk far away to a parking garage to find parking. The parking situation wasn t horrible during the day since it was light outside. However, parking in that parking garage and walking to our hotel at night time was very scary and made us uneasy with several questionable characters roaming the sidewalks nearby. Anytime we had a question or concern and would make our way to the front desk, there was always a huge line. We would attempt to stand in line for 10-15 minutes and would eventually just go back to our room when we realized the line wasn t moving. We got to hear some really interesting stories and complaints from all the other customers in line complaining about situations. I will never stay here again. And will do a lot of research before I ever stay at a Holiday Inn again.
Overall it was pleasant. The beds were rather comfortable. The service was kind enough. My only complaint was the keys to the room frequently did not work.
The hotel was nice and clean with a good breakfast. However, it was difficult to sleep at times due to the noise from outside and from people moving around in the hallway. Short drive from the main downtown area of Charleston.
Holiday Inn Downtown locatef close to everything. The room were comfortable, clean & welcoming. The lighting wasnt the best but water pressure was awesome in the shower. Hotel staff was awesome, friendly & helpful.
Advertised as "River View", should be revised to "Construction View". Sliding door and bathroom doors did not lock. Windows were covered in dirt. Bathroom was not clean and there was mold as others have stated. Just not clean. Breakfast was good. Parking was a mess. Not the best location. Look at the other Holiday Inn just over the bridge, River View, It looked much nicer.
