The room was nice, and breakfast was great, but Brian on night shift was the best part about this place. He was on top of his game, because our phones disabled our door card and the day staff failed to mention this could happen; He fixed it right away and let us know about that issue. Also, he set me up with menus and info about food at 0100 in the morning, when I wanted a midnight snack. Really cool dude, and great service.

Supposed to check in at 3 pm after being on the beach all day was not able to check in till after 9 pm being covered in sand and salt all day a shower would have been nice really set the day trip way back
Stayed one night and got covered in bed bug bites. Management says they checked the room and saw nothing. We were disgusted when we saw blood on our sheets but were in a hurry and rushed out only to notice bites all over us when we met up with our friends. None of them had bites and that hotel room was the only time we weren't with them. They won't refund me. I wish I could include pictures but I'm just saying I wouldn't risk it for a while.
Great customer service, early check in, awesome room, comfortable bed! Only downfall is the lack of parking due to construction in the area and the breakfast is mediocre. We slept amazing and enjoyed our stay! We booked the same day and got a great rate on Hotwire.
Excellent location near downtown and hospitals, modern facilities kept very clean. Staff all great. There is construction going on next door that looks to be long term. To minimize noise during the day, request a room on the east side of the hotel.
Best experience ever! I thought when I reserved it I was getting a room with a balcony but apparently I wasn't. The hotel staff was really cooperative though and let me switch rooms for free. Would recommend 5/5!
Avoid staying here!! The staff has no clue what they re doing, the rooms are dirty, the AC is loud (couldn t fall asleep because of it), and the breakfast is mediocre. We waited four hours after check-in (with a reservation made weeks in advance) because they didn t have rooms cleaned in time.
8th floor has the biggest room I ve seen in holiday in express ever. Shower is big. But construction kept making beeping sounds early in the morning. And bathroom setup is kinda weird...
Don't stay here. I'm closing my rewards club membership due to this stay. Hotel wreaked of smoke and wet dog. The carpet and bed was moist and wet in some spots. NASTY ! This is probably the worst hotel I've stayed at. The only good thing is the staff. They were very friendly and ready to help with any issue.
It's not a typical holiday inn Express. This is a dump. Don't do it.
The mattress was slightly too old and was dented where people sit on the edge of the bed. The sheets were pilled. The bathrooThem was basically clean, but the shower tile grout could have used a very good steam cleaning. The check in process was easy and the desk person was very friendly and kind. The parking situation is pretty tight and there is a gravel lot for overflow parking. The gravel is unforgiving when it comes to towing a suitcase behind yourself. And the lighting could have been improved. There is a lot of construction going on around the hotel, so if you're not an early morning riser, you might want to not stay there through the week. Not sure if construction goes on during the weekend. I always used to find Holiday Inn Express a reliable place to stay, however, the last two I've stayed in have both suffered from old mattresses and less that sparkling bathrooms. I might have to rethink them as an option for the future. Though, at this one in Charleston, the price was right for the business travel budget I was working with.
I have to first say that Annise who works at the Front desk is so amazing! I have issues with the cleanliness of the room wasn t amazing but definitely not horrible just could be better. Enjoyed my stay don t have any true complaints.
The property was easy to find and is right downtown where everything is! Perfect location with different things within walking distance! The staff was professional and amazing all around! The beds were extremely comfortable as well! And, the price was great! I was a bit skeptical at first thinking I was getting what I paid for being that it was so affordable, but we received more than we expected in how we were treated and well taken care of! For sure plan to stay again!!
This hotel went above and beyond during our hurricane stay last week. Staff was working incredibly long shifts due to storm and always responded to my requests with patience. Yes, they are in the middle of a renovation so there is ceramic tile piles around and some dust to deal with in the lobby. The rooms are very comfortable, the breakfast is very good and everything I expect at HIExpress. Again, thank you to everyone.
Its sad when the staff says "hey its the express, what were you expecting? " some rooms have balconies that don't open and they know this...wow. ice is on some floors all the way to the end..smh...
The bathroom was not the cleanest, the sheets were itchy, and the AC unit made noise like it was trying to turn on all night which continuously woke me up.
Location was convenient. Right next to 17 which makes it easy to travel around. A little construction around the hotel with a little noise. That's the only downside but the hotel couldn't help it. Don't deal personnel was friendly and didn't mind a few questions.
The hotel staff were very kind and great. They were the best part of the stay. There is a new building being constructed next door and it is loud constantly! The rooms were mediocre at best to put it nicely. Our cards stopped working twice in a two day stay which was a pain. There is a balcony, but you aren't allowed to open the doors to get on it. The AC isnt great either. I would not stay again
Worst hotel ever! Our room was not ready at check in and I had a piece of luggage STOLEN from the outside unload area! Management did nothing and acted as if it wasn't their problem. Construction makes entry dangerous and when we finally checked in the driveway was being paved causing everyone to double park and block cars in. Total stay was a complete nightmare!
The first time I stayed at this hotel, I left. While it has undergone a renovation since then, I still do not think it should be an IHG brand. I really think this place needs a full-time security guard!
Right now I have housekeeping listening to a profane show on her phones speaker, outside my door.
My door doesn t shut all the way. There s questionable people loitering, and there were obvious meth users walking in the building while high.
There s limited on site parking and the parking garage is very inconvenient. The entrance to the elevator garage is blocked off.
The room was great, clean and up to date. It made it easy to overlook the awful view. My advice is to leave the drapes closed. They have a nice little pool. It is within walking distance of the VA hospital. Publix and some restaurants are also within walking distance. Breakfast was good but could use more fresh fruit varieties other that apples and oranges. All in all a great stay
Worst Holiday Inn EVER! Overpriced and the pictures on the site are of the rooms, but are brightened to make everything look new... Everything in this building is outdated from the carpet to the curtains. The carpets are so worn, some have bare spots. The chairs in our room have stains. The sheets were stained. The halls and rooms stink with a moldy smell. We checked in 6 hrs ago and stayed out of the room as long as possible. Upon return we had to park in the garage across the street, parking is not even up to par. This business has no right to have the Holiday Inn sign on the door. I will be calling corporate tomorrow.
Pets are allowed but not cheap. Nice upgrade from the Ho Jo that was here. Needs more (better) parking. Friendly staff, great Happy Hour, good onsite amenities.
First time traveling with our pooch and am very happy with our experience here. The staff couldn't have been friendlier to us and our pooch. I don't think I've stayed in a quieter hotel. They will gladly provide you with a listing of pet friendly places to visit. Don't skip the breakfast... not gourmet, but a good way to start the day. My only suggestion for improvement...a small area for off leash dog time.
Wonderful service! I was asking for the person who was at the desk the last time I came to Holiday Day inn Express but she wasn't working this time. Her name is Lauren. I am looking forward to staying there the next time in Charlestown. I have to come to Charleston for appointments at MUSC.
ABSOLUTELY superb customer service! I felt like I was walking into the Ritz Carlton by the way I was greeted at the Concierge Desk! Highly recommend and the rooms are very nice!!!
Can't go wrong with a holiday inn express. Consistent level of service. Clean rooms, plenty of parking, standard breakfast. Helpful staff, bus stop for free trolley right around the corner.
Excellent all around. Only complaint i have is didnt have long enough with them. It is an excellent hotel and wonderful employees. Pet friendly. Excellent staff. They made us feel welcome.every time we walked in the door.
At the moment a megabuse place right outside the door. After we were initially in the basement to accommodate, we got on request a room on a higher floor. Room and bathroom perfect, the breakfast for American. Conditions pretty good. For tourists there is a free shuttle bus into the city from a station near the hotel. Overall, recommended.
This entire hotel is DISGUSTING on a whole new level (I wish there was an option for a ZERO rating). The first room that we were assigned had fresh smelly stains all over the carpet, bedding (sheets and bed skirt) that were torn and tattered and an inch worth of dust, dirt, and grime stuck on everything. I went to the front desk and explained how GROSS the room was and was given another room on a different floor. Although that room was also filthy and smelled like an old dirty diaper (in fact the entire 5th floor hallway smelled like that) there weren't fresh stains on the carpet like the 1st one so we took it because we needed a room for the night. My friend and our families were spending spring break in Charleston and booked this hotel online. The pictures posted are TOTALLY deceiving starting with the fact that the hotel is not "right downtown" as advertised. Honestly this was a room where everyone slept with their clothes on and we left to go back home without showers because it was just that dirty. I am ok with a hotel being old......just NOT ok with one being this horrendously grimey. I will NEVER stay at a Holiday Inn or HI Express again!
My negativity stems mostly from the price compared to the amenities. The room was much smaller than it appears in photos; the walls are very thin so you hear everything in nearby rooms; 2/3 of the wall outlets did not work; no room service; no pay-per-view; no vending machines that I could find, and the gift store only sold alcohol and diet Coke; the WiFi was very bad; no in room Ethernet port for my travel router. The staff was nice enough and the bed was comfortable, but the experience was disappointing for low three figures for one night.
SAVE YOUR MONEY! There are roaches! And Housekeeping did a terrible job cleaning the bathroom before we checked in, because it was disgusting once we got here. The balconies are also super small. Please don't waste your time booking this hotel. The only good thing here is the free breakfast. But everything else is complete garbage. And the hotel is in a bad location
Everything was kept up nicely, cleaned continually, and stocked quickly. Every employee was pleasant and always willing to help. Quite a pleasant experience!
OUTSTANDING Customer Services especially with Jazzy. She is truly a keeper for your establishment. She deserve a raise for being over and above her duties.
In need of a serious renovation. Kitchen very slow during breakfast hours. Ran out of coffee a few times during our stay and hot food as well. Not very organized.
Construction going on all arond this place, some noise and parks hard to find. Room was small. They changed extra for river view yet all you can really see is construction.
If you want to sleep, do not stay here! They are undergoing a huge construction project next-door, we stayed on a Thursday night and they worked all night long, horrific! Friday night they did not work all night, but Saturday morning they started their construction again at 6:30 AM, we absolutely could not believe it! Since we checked in late at night and it was the weekend, no one of authority was there to take control and make things right for us, like moving us to the other side of the hotel away from all of it. I have been a loyal longtime holiday inn, and holiday in express user, this hotel has ruined it 100% for me! I feel very very cheated to have had paid for that experience, I was very exhausted when I arrived there got a terrible night sleep, and needed a good sleep the next night and to be able to sleep late, for a very long drive ahead, I got neither, and really, no one cared.
Very dirty carpet, mattresses and box spring truly need replacing. Walls has messy patch job, air conditioner unit very loud. Transferred to another room which was not any better.
I enjoyed my stay with you all ! Jazzy checked me in , She was Amazing, She made me feel comfortable & well welcomed . Very Sweet and Swift worker , Great customer service . If she isnt in the running for Mangment , She should be! But over all Everyone was nice .
Great service, great people, decent rooms. Not far from downtown, value for the location. Pool was nice, free cocktails on Friday from 5 to 7 and decent breakfast included. I would go back if we visit the area again!
As a Spire member, I'm aware of the high quality service IHG offers, today was not the case.
My room was broken into, with over 2k worth of items stolen, by another guest at the hotel. After noticing items missing from my room, I spoke to front desk staff and contacted the authorities. Brian, who was working that night was very helpful. I'm mostly disappointed in the way the GM handled the situation. The person who robbed my room was sharing a room with other individuals, who were accomplices, he was arrested but the rest of the party remained in the same hotel. I feared for any sort of retaliation.
On top of that, the hotel has zero cameras on any floor. There are some by the entrances but not even sure if they're functional.
The staff had to be asked 3x to replace my hair ridden duvet. Housekeeping opened our door (while we were still laying in bed) without knocking and for no real reason whatsoever-they saw we were still there and slammed the door shut. Upon emailing the acting GM I received no response. Beyond unimpressed.
One of the most unfriendly staff I've ever seen in a hotel. Not just one person was unfriendly and unhelpful but everyone I encountered over a 3day/2 night stay. We left ad we 2 days & went to another hotel. Room was overly basic a straight back chair or very narrow bench to sit on in room so basically you had to sit in your bed while in the room. Refrigerator door in room was backwards and very difficult to get anything out. The bathroom s the worst color of yellow and yellow is my favorite color. Tub/Shower had long black hairs and mold in it when we arrived. Staff was bothered that I told them and they did nothing to fix. I went to the store and bought cleaner & did it myself. No bath towels in the room when we arrived, we had to get our own. Breakfast was big but tasted horrible. There was never enough hot water for tea at anytime in the lobby. You get soaked every time you enter or exit the side door (where you park) 7 or 8 air conditioners dripping water directly over door. Were told by staff it's been like forever. It's located on the edge of a very, very rough neighborhood area. We turned on a wrong street coming in and would have been terrified but the neighborhood was so bad there a police car & officer at what seemed like every corner we turned....thank goodness! Worst stay at a Holiday Inn ever!!! And WAY overpriced for what you get!!
