Stood at sign that read "please wait to be seated" for 10 min. Lady walks over looks at the sign, turns it to read "please seat yourself" and asks if I am waiting for someone. I explain, and she says.. " we are not open yet, but I guess you can have a seat" (website reads they are open 24hrs). She hands me a full menu and when she returns, she tells me I can only have breakfast (nowhere does it indicate that). Everything comes with tator tots. Who serves that? These guys and I'll tell you why. I sat there in front of the grill and these "chefs" proceeded to open bags of processed foods and heat it up on the grill. I guess they don't know how to cook hashbrowns. Their service was rude and demanding. This place (at least for breakfast) is one step above McDonald's. The only thing that was really cooked was the eggs. I won't give them 2 stars for eggs. And staff just stands around.
Delicious. Fantastic service. Must go here if you a fan of barbecue
I ordered the smoked pork spare ribs. The meat TOTALLY fell off the bones (the standard for properly prepared KC-style ribs). Great environment for an airport and exceptional service. Thank You!!
They've got a few good things going:
1. The dining room is really nice and inviting. I loved the space.
2. Service was surprisingly good.
3. They have Heinz ketchup
4. They have a pretty good selection of local/craft beers.
5. The fries were respectable. Not covered in parmesan cheese as I feared... Just the right amount of seasoning.
6. My sandwich had a very nice texture. It was a surprisingly satisfying physical experience to eat.
7. We were seated immediately.
But the overall experience wasn't great, or even good.
1. The beer is far too expensive. $7.99 for a Bud Light? I just can't process that, even in an airport. To their credit, they have several nicer beers for less than $9. Quality varies, but price is pretty constant. It's like beer Communism.
2. The food was all extremely disappointing, especially for the price. I hate to think that people may have a layover in the airport and think that this is at all representative of KC BBQ. Tough, tough meat. So much Bleu cheese. Sweet Pickle Spears?! Whyyyyyyyy? Who does that?!
3. The dining room floor was so grimy I couldn't stand still because my feet would slide out from under me. This is not hyperbole. I mean it in the most literal sense.
4. Prices were high, even for an airport.
5. Portions (especially pig wings) were smaller than expected.
6. Pig Wings were strange - drenched in a sickly-sweet BBQ sauce with Bleu cheese.
My bottom line is - they either need to make the food better or rework their pricing. I'd prefer the food to be better so they don't hurt KC's reputation.
Oh, and several people said this is the only sit-down place in Terminal B. That's not true. There is also a Taqueria but I haven't eaten there so I can't say how P&P compares.
Got the combo plate, the brisket was dry and bland, the pork ribs fell off the bone but were dry and bland, the sausage was okay and smokey. Fries were nothing special, the slaw was plain, and the little corn muffin was good. The best item on the entire plate was the cup of their bbq sauce which is the only reason I didn't give it 1 star. It was flavorful and smokey and made me forget how dry and bland all the meats were.
The pork and pickle selection off the menu was a very good option paired with dead guy rogue ale. Smoked chicken baguette was very good as well. Very busy but attentive staff.
Food was decent especially for an airport. Note that their online hours are incorrect and hours are not posted on-site. It s ok not till open to a certain time; getting upset with guests when the online profile says 24 hours and they walk in and no hours are posted? Seems like a fixable problem.
Tried the beef brisket sandwich and the pig wings. The best part was the pickle on the side.
An animal gave its life and they have the disrespect to treat it this way. This brisket was terrible. The fat was chewy and the meat was dry. Shame on whoever cooked this. If you re not going to put the care into it that it deserves, make a salad.
Great place to eat when you're at the Kansas City airport. You have to go through security first to get to the restaurant.
This is about as good as you'd expect from an option in an airport? The food and beer were overpriced but decent. Again, it's airport food and not in a particularly great airport, so you have to keep expectations in check. I was tempted to give them 4 stars, but they apparently keep weird hours on the weekends and I felt very rushed to get out of there.
Matthew provided great service! Food was pretty good.
Food came out fast but ribs where dry as hell wouldn t recommend if you re in a hurry either
Burnt (approx half of the meal) smoked pork ribs served Dec 31 lunch time. Server said they all come "like that" when i asked why it is all black and smelled like burnt charcoal.
Busy but seated relatively quickly. Service was friendly (thanks Riki!) and food came out fast. Orderd the brisket plate. The meat was lean and a little drier than I prefer but had a good flavor. Best option I could find in the airport
This was an unexpectedly delicious experience. Ordered the dirty chips, fried pork n pickle frits, and mini cornbread muffins. We couldn't stop eating or raving about how yummy it was. The dirty chips alone are worth the visit. If you're stuck in the airport, don't miss this opportunity to try this place!
Got the brisket sandwich. I could have thrown a Slim Jim in some Wonderbread and had a better sandwich. Beer was good.
Despite several employees seeing myself and a groupe behind me, nobody bothered to get the hostesses attention for 10 minutes. The seating is very limited compared to the number of people at the restaurant. There is very little room while waiting to be seated and the line extended into the elevator and down the stairs very quickly. The food is average at best and over priced.
Good food if you like vinegar barbecue . Be careful what you order. Some food can be very fatty. The appetizer sliders were terrific. Service of course at an airport hotel can be hit or miss depending on how busy they are
Over priced for crap BBQ. waitress recommend a sandwich and it tasted like it had been sitting in a vinegar tomato sauce for most of the week. Beers were WAY over priced, even for a airport.
Edit: Upgrade to 2 stars for taking the sandwich off the bill.
I came in in a bad mood basically expecting disappointment (not helped by the big menu downstairs showing no prices), but I was pleasantly surprised. I got seated quickly, the real menu had prices, the food didn't take long, the brisket sandwich was excellent, and they had decent beer on tap. It's pricey ($30 for the sandwich and a beer), but it easily beats the Tequileria.
Worst brisket I've ever had. Alarm went off in the middle of lunch and apparently the staff have as bad of response time as their food.
That was the most mediocre $15 cheeseburger I've ever had. And it took two tries to get the right order. Not worth the wait. Two stars because the sweet potato fries were quite good.
Brisket is good. Service was good. But watered down drinks.
they gave my mom and I cold fries , but other than that , the food is amazing .
Pretzels were good, the "parmesan parsley fries" had no parsley or parmesan, wait staff was disinterested and rude, watched family feud instead of paying attention to customers.
Had 45 minutes waiting for a flight. Myself and my wife had just got off a flight from the States and had 2 more to get home. A beverage was in order!
Place was almost full but was seated quickly. Server was friendly and we ordered a stout and a 9oz glass of malbec. 37 DOLLARS!!!!.
WONT BE BACK!
Had the combo plate. Sausage was mushy and overcooked. The ribs were unseasoned so they had no flavor however, the sauce was okay as well as the coleslaw and the fries hot and crispy. The drinks were way overpriced.
For an airport, this place is good. Prices are a little high for what you get, but I expected that. I had French toast and was happy with it. Service was decent. Only thing I really didn t like was that the cook was wearing a big baggy sweatshirt and dragging her sleeves in the food...
I d eat here again, even if it wasn t the ONLY place in the entire airport I could find to get food.
The food was good but they were out of all their desserts when I went which was frustrating.
Food is good but service is terrible as usual. I stood for 5 minutes in front of a bartender, waitress, and a kitchen staff member hoping to place a to go order and was completely ignored as they caught up on their gossip. Very reminiscent of Bon Qui Qui.
Good food and fun place to relax before the flight!
Really liked the dirty chips. Great as an app or a meal. Meat is really good. Service was a little slow and the dining area small.
Pricy, small portion of French Toast was tasty. Breakfast hash skillet surprisingly very sweet. Took more than 20 after the French Toast was served to get the Skillet to the table. Service was slow and inaccurate. Other Skillets ordered after I ordered, delivered before mine.
Literally the only restaurant in the Southwest airlines terminal
Busy, but quick in and out. Brisket was okay, but quite fatty
Food is ok, it's over priced because it's in an airport, depending on the time of day, it's insanely busy
Service is hit and miss. If they're busy, good luck.
My wife and I stopped in to get some dinner before our flight back home. The food was delicious, the service was fast and polite, the drinks were perfect! A nice relaxed atmosphere mixed with great food and reasonable prices. I highly recommend this restaurant and I will definitely be back here when I come through Kansas again!
Amazing food and a create atmosphere! Cozy enough to talk to others that are traveling! The sandwiches are huge! Not normal for airport food.
Had Angus burger, reindeer sausage, cod fish and chip, and Stella Artois with my friends. I couldn't believe I was eating such good food and drinks inside airport. All of my friends loved food. Friendly staffs. I would definitely stop again just to enjoy food when I travel from Anchorage.
Bad for vegetarians: I had to special-order a salad without meat! Maybe it's just because airport food, but come on, it's 2019, and there's not even a veggie burger on the menu?
Beer selection wasn't bad, they had a local brew on tap, and the parmesan fries were tasty. Service was good, prices reasonable, and now I'm fed
My favorite restaurant in an airport. Been here several times and never had a bad meal, plus good beers on draft. Would not come here if it wasn't in an airport.
Food was good, got the hash skillet it was quite good.
Everything is made fresh and tastes delicious would definitely go back when I'm in town. Priced resonaby too!
Great food for an airport restaraunt, we stop here every time we pass through!
Brisket sandwich wasn't that great. Service was average.
The food was delicious but the brisket sandwich need just a little more sauce and coleslaw. The best food in the airport though.
Food was good and the service was incredible! They moved people through quickly without making them feel unimportant or rushed.
Pork sliders and pretzel sticks were tremendous. Service impeccable. Thank you!
We had the combo platter which was more than enough for two and was awesome! Also our waitress was excellent as well!
It's in an airport, it's high priced, it's not good. If yes gotta though you gotta. Just be ready to drop 20 bucks and not be super pleased with it.
Service was great but chicken and ribs were way too dry. Don't plan on going back.
The person behind the bar was complaining about her job.
The brisket was average and a bit dry. I was suprised that they ran out of honeybutter at noon. Otherwise, great atmosphere.
Service was good, but food not so much. Next time I am in KC airport, I will go hungry.
Great food and beer, and easy to get to during layover
Slow and unfriendly service. People must really hate working here. Happy holidays to you, too!!
Ribs are scrumptious. Excellent service. They even brought a little special something for my kitty as we were traveling with him.
Service was great but they were out of everything, drinks and food. After we received our tots and wings we were told they did not have ranch. I would not have order those two things had I known that. Now I'm drinking my 4th option of beverage they had listed and not eating any food.
Cute atmosphere, friendly staff and decent food, It's nothing fancy but I recommend eating there if you are passing through the airport.
I had the pork sliders, and I liked them.
PS, they included these little architectural features that made the building feel old (ceiling tiles, subway tiles next to the kitchen. It was a fun improvement on the concrete brutialist style airport.
Self seating is unmanageable! Folks sat later than me and were served before me. Servers had no idea who was coming and going. 25 mins to order and food took another 20 mins. Had to ask it be made 'to go' and ended up leaving pretty disappointed. Food was okay (on the plane).
45 dollars for the smallest half a chicken possible and a double Malibu rum n sprite the size of a small glass they use liquid smoke yucko
I ordered a beer and the hot pretzels. I have no complaints about the food, although it was 7:30 at night and another couple was told that the kitchen was closing. Let me repeat, it was 7:30 on a Saturday night. The website says that it s open 24/7. Apparently, that s not true. My flight didn t leave until 9:15pm and I felt kicked out of the place around 8:00.
Don't expect to get in and out of you are in a hurry. Lunchtime is very crowded. Food was not hot but server was friendly
Note that I m a former barbecue competitor...I know good barbecue. I arrived in the restaurant about 6pm on a Tuesday. Pretty busy. I was seated quickly and someone came to take my drink order very quickly which one would expect in the airport. I ordered the combo platter to get a sample of a variety of meats. I waited at least 30 min before my food arrived. Keep in mind that nothing I ordered was made fresh like the salmon salad of the gentleman beside me who received his order in about 10 min. My food was not hot, the brisket was cut thicker than pencil thick, it was extremely fatty, and tough! It had obviously been sitting and the muscle was allowed to toughen as a result. The sausage had nice flavor as did the ribs. The sausage lacked the snap you receive with great fresh sausage. I had slaw which appeared to be cabbage with no dressing at all. Horrible! They re baked beans had ok flavor but had pieces of the tough brisket. Honestly, their non-barbecue items looked better than they re bbq. I wouldn t eat there again!
Good place to wait out a delay at Kansas City intl. I had the brisket sandwich. It was good, but nearly 1/3 of the meat portion was fat or grissle. Not worth nearly $14 for the sandwich. Their Wit beer was nice and refreshing. Huge bar for an airport. Great woodfired ambiance.
This was one of the worst BBQ places I visited while in Kansas City. They were "out" of items that made ordering difficult. We couldn't order the French toast or the Turkey sandwich. We ordered the mini cornbread muffins and my wife ordered the parmesan parsley fries. I also chose the pulled pork sliders. When the food was delivered the waiter informed us that they were out of the cornbread muffins also. My buns were soggy and the pork didn't have much taste. The parmesan parsley fries didn't have any parsley and tasted like regular fries. The service was mediocre while the woman who sat us didn't seem to enjoy her job at all. She walked up and said "are you the party of four?" She turned and walked away without another word. She had menus in hand so we followed unsure if she was even ready. She put the menus on the table and was gone before we even got there. she seemed to have a serious attitude! Definitely disappointed all around with this restaurant.
Food was meh, drinks were overpriced, but it's an airport so what do you expect?
Food's OK, beers are expensive, and it feels like a crowded diner. But its the only thing worth having inside KC airport security. Sigh...
Great spot in the airport to get a meal. One of the best briskets sandwiches I've had. Typically, at other restaurants, a brisket sandwich seems like they use the scraps. Not here. Full thick sliced pieces. I would definitely be back if I'm ever at this airport again.
Dirty chips were delicious! Short wait time but food and service was excellent. Highly recommend.
Friendly environment for sure! Food was ok. Service could have been better. Probably because it seemed like only 1 guys was running the whole place.
This place is great. I'm not sure what others are talking about when they leave 2 and 3 star reviews. If you come here with the perspective of traveling and typical airport food, this is probably the best airport restaurant I've eaten at. Sure, if you're a local BBQ connoisseur, maybe it's a notch down....but why are you eating at an airport then? The food is fresh. Made to order right in front of you. The beer menu is pretty cool too. Prices are reasonable.
It's just OK in a pinch with limited options past security at MCI.
Just had the Angus cheese burger medium rare was really good. Fast and friendly service. A light on the dark if you will, in this horrible airport.
The food is very good and the price,it gets really crowded and they still can give good service,we have to understand is an airport and lots of people come everyday,I rate this restaurant 5***** stars and Q-39 restaurant In 1000 w 39th in KC MO
Pretty gross. Food was subpar and behind the bar/open kitchen was not clean. You'd think since customers can see everything back there, they'd tidy up a bit. On the plus side, service was friendly and beer was cold.
