As always, find myself only commenting after a bad experience which is unfair and a key reason reviews must be taken with a plateful of salt. Hotel is as ever wonderful it's a magnificent building, it has a decent pool though limited use for swimming and the food in the evening is very good indeed.

Rooms are small, sure, and many are a funny shape and layout but what do you want? If you want modern, identikit rubbish the Thistle is just up the road. Bathrooms are functional if not luxurious but beds are comfortable, the doors lock and, y'know, that's the sea you can see out of the window.

Breakfast has nosedived. In the last few months we have gone from being poured coffee and fresh orange on your arrival to get you own coffee from a machine and, well, the thing that prompted me to review.

I am honestly struggling to give it 3 stars. I have stayed here before and it's a lovely old hotel with a lot of character, although the rooms are in dire need of a refurb, we paid for an upgrade and were upgraded again so I was thankful for that (until I saw the room). The breakfast is fantastic and the refurbished bar and event rooms were beautiful. Location is also great.

The staff are mostly great and the text concierge is genius, but there are some bad points. Plus any hotel that plasters signs everywhere saying tell us if something's wrong and we will try to make it right should have rung alarm bells.

By the end of the stay we were joking it is like staying at faulty towers. It was that comedic

1. the poorly fitted sash windows were our first problem. It was stormy fair enough, but the draft and whistling of the wind through the gap in the window was so loud sleeping was a problem.

2. The bathroom door was falling apart and I had to get maintenance to mail it back together.

3. I was in 2 different event rooms over 2 days and despite each one having a bar and staff I had to go all the way to the main bar to get a beer as they had nothing on draft and when asked they said no to getting it sent up for me and others.

4. They actually served mouldy vegetables to my wife at the gala dinner and apart from a quick sorry and replacing the plate the management did not even bother to come by and apologise or to make it up to us.

4. Despite me paying for the room they refused to give me my points and gave it to the event organiser big mistake actually as this was the straw the broke the camels back. I actually stay in hotels all over the world and am a platinum member of IHG. They had a chance to make me a Hilton convert and failed miserably.

5. The bar prices are disgusting I stay in 4/5 star hotels all over the world and work in London yet the prices made my eyes water!

In summary it's not worth the room rate or the upgrade, if you stay make sure you book a refurbished room as many are not yet done.

It was ok, clean, room we paid for was a king bed, which I'm glad we got. However they did not have a mini fridge inside which I could tell had once been there. Rooms are dated, our flush on the toilet did not work properly despite reporting it twice. No smart tv. No air conditioning however upon request fan was provided.

Nice hotel with a great location and friendly staff. It s a little bit dated with dark corridors but the rooms are nice with comfortable beds and nice bathrooms (with power shower, but no bath). Check in is a bit slow but Hilton Honors can check in online and there is a quick checkout option. Check in at 4pm and checkout at 11am. Swimming pool is nice with a small jacuzzi, steam room, sauna and gym on site.

Always have a lovely time here. Staff are great, spa is really nice, rooms have good facilities and are clean. The restaurant is nice with tasty food including breakfast, and the bar is good too.

Sleeping there over two nights at the weekend.

Breakfast area could be very crowded depending on the time (more early - much better)
The pool was only ok - everything seems to be very old, shower area women looks poor like in a leisure center, not like something more exclusive (hello, it s a Hilton).
Check in wasn t fast - my husband is a Hilton Card Member with a status (silver or gold, don t know) which allows him to go to the fast lane desk - something went wrong with the computers, so we have to wait very long with a tired little one with us.

Breakfast only offers a pancake machine - not freshly prepared by a person. Waiting time at the coffee machine (yes, self service.)
Stuff at the breakfast was nice and fast, only one time the forgot our order.
Gluten-free Toast available by asking the stuff.

The room was old, too. The walls seems to be very dirty around the beds, carpet under the bed wasn t clean - dust and thinks like that.

The stairs area is kind of impressive, because it is big and old.
Damaged Carpet on the stairs was repaired with tape.

My husband had some champagne delivered to the hotel as a surprise for our anniversary. Staff at the hotel signed for the package but we never received it. A bit disappointing but it also means it disappeared in the hotel !

Absolutely amazing service as always. The staff for the Hilton are 100% customer focused. Not only do they provide 5* customer service but remember dates important to the individual customer. My wife are newly weds and were surprised by a bottle of champagne and cake in our room. Not only that we received a personal card from the owner and staff from the establishment to welcome us personally. Maybe the visit to LA, California is on the cards after all. Thank you, and everyone at the Hilton that make our stay feel as welcome like family.

For a weekend stay ok. Room size above normal but but the room is not up to Hilton standard any longer. It Needs a refurbishment badly... Positive is the breakfast buffet and pool area.

A great location for a weekend away in Brighton, this hotel was probably as grand as they come back in the day, but is needing a bit of a freshen up these days.
Staff, friendly and helpful and the food we had / breakfast, was very decent

Spent five nights with my husband & grandson. Nice pool , gym and plenty of activities. Our room was ok but housekeeping wasn't as good as it used to be on previous visits. Breakfast excellent, plenty of choice. Staff pleasant .

Not bad. It is run down and could do with an extensive refurbishment. The location is pretty perfect.

My room was sea facing, had a balcony, it also had a separate shower and bath and all the mod cons.

Decent buffet breakfast.

Really nice hotel, but not to user friendly with signs etc.
But overall great location if you want to actively walk around and do things.
A big bay right outside making it easy to cycle right to the door.
And don't forget the awesome proximity to the upside down house .

When we arrived for our stay our room was not ready infact we waited in teception twenty miniutes before we could have our room card, and as an apology was offred a free drink. The pictures on the website were nothing like our room, looked very standard an outdated. I had to repeat myself several times to reception staff as there was a slight language barrier. Dont waste your time are money hear

Do yourself a favour and don t stay here. Stay at a B&B or local hotel instead. This absolutely incredible building is run down and has not been refurbished in decades which is a crying shame given its prime location.

What was probably a palace of luxury back in the day is now a hive of mediocrity and more of an embarrassment to the Hilton brand than Paris.

Staff couldn t be bothered at check in, room has seen way better days and the cleaners did half a job. Avoid.

Very nice hotel near the beach. The cheap rooms are below standard typically expected from Hilton, but the price and location compensated this cons. However I cannot imagine me staying in my room for a week.

Ive stayed in a few Hiltons before and enjoyed them, expected no different. I had an awful experience here. The first room I had was too warm with no temperature control and both taps delivering hot or lukewarm water. The next night they moved me to another room. This one had cold running water but it was freezing and the temperature control did not help, the carpet in this room looked dirty and I decided the showers near the pool were cleaner and better to use that night. Overall disappointing and I would not like to stay here again.

Went for a wedding reception. Drinks are ridiculously expensive and they are no different to any served elsewhere. Security followed us into the room and rudely asked us if we were 'with the wedding or not'

Ss atf were amazingly helpful, breakfast and afternoon tea was super. Only let down was the struggle to get dairy free options despite booking this way back and confirming this option hence 4 stars instead of 5

I visited LivingWell Health Club at the Metropole Hotel and what a pleasant experience. The club has been renovated recently and looks very stylish. There's a heated swimming pool and spa pool as well as a sauna and steamroom along with a remarkably well-equipped gym. The club is for hotel guests and also runs a membership scheme for locals. Particularly impressive was the quality of the staff who were professional, pleasant and knowledgeable in gym training, diet and fitness. The only downer was the changing rooms which are a bit cramped and run down, but not bad enough to knock off a star.

Very good located place to stay in Brighton. Excellent service in bar and reception. Room was clean, specially bed and desk, floor and windows a bit dusty or gray. Toilets cleaned well. Anyway architecture very interesting, very traditional design inside.

we attended a Charity Event here on a Saturday Evening and have to say that from a few venues that we have been to over the years this topped them all. The staff were amazing, helpful and a pleasure. The event room itself and setting was second to none. Well done

This hotel is in a great seafront location, however it somewhat tired and need of an update.

One of the reasons for booking here was to experience the 'inviting cuisine with stunning sea views' from the 'popular waterhouse restaurant' - but that was closed! I suspect as it wasn't popular enough to open on a sunday.

Only option was to sit in the bar to have bar food which simply wasn't good enough for a pricey hotel.

I booked this hotel for a business trip, but if I had come for leisure I would be super disappointed. My double room for 2 people ended up being tiny - one person would have to crawl up from the bottom of the bed as there is so little space in the room the bed is pressed up against the wall. There are no plug sockets near the bed either.

The view is the most depressing thing. I have a view of the fire escape and a wall. This was definitely not what I expected when I looked at the photos of the rooms.

As I said, totally "ok" for a short business stay, but definitely not what I expected and would definitely upset me if this was my holiday.

Food and beverage staff especially Charlie at Sunday lunch and Joshua in the waterhole were brilliant but these 2 went over and above job spec. Rooms are tired in need of update and some maintenance but are spacious and the beds are comfy. Reception staff particularly the females could be more friendly but ate efficient. pool area and gym are excellent. Overall a good stopover but could do with some Tlc and an area to have just coffee's that is not a bar would be nice. Breakfast was excellent.

Service was excellent, the room was lovely and the hotels COVID procedures seemed more than adequate (which is exactly what you want at the moment!)

Only possible complaint is that the rooms could perhaps do with refurbishment soon. Still it was well worth the money paid.
