I am honestly struggling to give it 3 stars. I have stayed here before and it's a lovely old hotel with a lot of character, although the rooms are in dire need of a refurb, we paid for an upgrade and were upgraded again so I was thankful for that (until I saw the room). The breakfast is fantastic and the refurbished bar and event rooms were beautiful. Location is also great.
The staff are mostly great and the text concierge is genius, but there are some bad points. Plus any hotel that plasters signs everywhere saying tell us if something's wrong and we will try to make it right should have rung alarm bells.
By the end of the stay we were joking it is like staying at faulty towers. It was that comedic
1. the poorly fitted sash windows were our first problem. It was stormy fair enough, but the draft and whistling of the wind through the gap in the window was so loud sleeping was a problem.
2. The bathroom door was falling apart and I had to get maintenance to mail it back together.
3. I was in 2 different event rooms over 2 days and despite each one having a bar and staff I had to go all the way to the main bar to get a beer as they had nothing on draft and when asked they said no to getting it sent up for me and others.
4. They actually served mouldy vegetables to my wife at the gala dinner and apart from a quick sorry and replacing the plate the management did not even bother to come by and apologise or to make it up to us.
4. Despite me paying for the room they refused to give me my points and gave it to the event organiser big mistake actually as this was the straw the broke the camels back. I actually stay in hotels all over the world and am a platinum member of IHG. They had a chance to make me a Hilton convert and failed miserably.
5. The bar prices are disgusting I stay in 4/5 star hotels all over the world and work in London yet the prices made my eyes water!
In summary it's not worth the room rate or the upgrade, if you stay make sure you book a refurbished room as many are not yet done.
