These guys are total crooks.

These guys are total crooks. I ended up in the ER last year while working out of town with my 14 year old son. They wanted to kick me out of the ER despite being in incredible amounts of pain and not being able to walk. They finally said they could admit me, but my 14 year old son would have to leave. Mind you, this is at 3am in a crappy part of town, while there were active protests happening...... after multiple attempts to make them see reason, they said that the only way he would be allowed to stay is if they admitted him as a patient. This kind of blackmail is criminal. Now, I've disputed this twice. But they just keep sending me bills. I was on so many different pain medications that I definitely wasn't in the frame of mind to really process this blackmail. But it was either endanger the life of my 14 year old, or let them bully me into a $4,262 bill. Absolute garbage. I'm about ready to sue them for blackmail, and for attempted child endangerment

I have been coming to HCMC Direct Care Clinic frequently with my partner for about 4 months now. The staff is amazing, everyone is very helpful. My only complaint is that it's very slow service. Everytime my partner has an appointment we are stuck waiting in the lobby for 35-40mins before we even go back. Why is this? Thanks to the staff for being amazing!

These people know what they're doing. It's a teaching hospital so there are many resident doctors in training. I always have felt well taken care of here especially when I have birth to my babies. My OB was wonderful, Dr. Pace. Love it here, one stop shop for all your medical needs!

I had my son at HCMC last April, and received my prenatal care there as well. I had a good experience with everything. Their birth center is smaller than other hospitals, which is nice. They offer a variety of birthing classes that I found helpful. Their complimentary doula service is amazing. The nurses were great. I highly recommend having your baby here.

This is not a clinic, it is a hospital. I was expecting to not pay much more than a co-pay for an office visit for my daughter's allergy testing, as we have good insurance. Instead we owe 20% of the total, almost $900. Had we known this we would have gone somewhere else.

Allergy tests usually cost about $15-$20 per test, here they came out to $79 each, times 56 tests! Had we known these things we would have gone elsewhere, and you should too.

Had to go there for a bad car accident was in the ER first time there ever. The nurses were so rude the whole time. Then I realized why the ER fills up so fast with drug overdose people or people with no health insurance going there for a tooth ache wanting pain meds. Twice while I was in my room a guy yelling and swearing at the nurses because they are not dentist another time a chick swearing yelling because she was put in a room with a homeless chick hacking up a lung and her knee was just in pain, they told her she needed to wait another 30 minutes to be released she got so mad she started swearing and threating the nurses they had to get the cops. What a trashy area for a hospital the poor people that have to work there and deal with the trash that comes in and being all nasty gross and act like they need a red carpet. The hospital would be a lot better without the trash coming in and they could have time to actually help the people that really need help instead of drug attacks coming in handcuffed to the beds. And trash coming just for pain meds. What a disgrace hope to never have to go there again.

Horrible Experiences here, specifically Mental health areas. disrespectful staff and very unprofessional. i won't feel safe at this place and i truly don't suggest anyone to go to mental health unit, for treatment. They should treat people with respect and be loyal to their profession.

Be careful! They are completely unprofessional when it comes to submit claim to the insurance! It took them a year and 5 phone calls from my side to get my claim submitted. They just bill you instead pretending you do not have insurance.

Moreover, my claim was submitted with ton of mistakes (instead of 17 and 32 teeth they put 22 and 27, wrong provider name and tax id). Now I have a next round of phone calls with requests to resubmit it.

I wish I went to other clinic!

Please don't go into the rooms alone and without a support system. I felt violated after going in for abdominal pain, there were a group of men doctors and students who took me into a room, turned off the lights, and put a huge spotlight on my private parts. I was young, naive, and in pain. Looking back on it now there should have been a female doctor in the room or something. The men doctors and students just gauked at my privates in the dark for a long period of time and sent me on my way without treatment or further test. So humiliating! I feel ashamed and upset that I didn't speak up sooner. I hope this review helps someone.

My elderly mother was abused by a night nurse at HCMC, neglected, and forced to eat a greasy pile of chicken covered with gravy when she had had diarrhea for days - even though her doctor had put her on a strict diet of liquids only. She ended up here because the Hennepin County EMS refused to take her to United, and they have no authority to refuse that. Hennepin County, my family has lawyered up. We re coming for you.

This is THE WORST hospital/birthing experience I have ever had. First off it was the most painful, & this is after I survived cancer. Not only that, they took a random drug screen that I said NO to TWICE! And got CPS involved. Now my life is literally ruined and the sloppy emergency C-section I ended up having to have is swollen because I cant stop crying. LADIES PLEASE DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND DELIVER YOUR LITTLE MIRACLE SOMEWHERE ANYWHERE ELSE!!!

The ambulance service (especially the EMTs) were wonderful. Unfortunately the billing service is laughably bad. Worst customer service experience I've ever had (even worse than utility and cable companies). The three people that I spoke to on the phone were all completely incompetent. I would give them negative 5 stars if Google allowed it. Avoid this place (and their billing department) like the plague.

Tried to go to the hospital today because when I bent over to feed the cat I nearly passed out on the floor. Note the word tried because I wasn't seen because they kept seeing people who came in after me (who were less sick then myself.) So I left and quite frankly am not happy about it because I am still sick and still had to pay the $6 for parking after 3 hours of that crap. Hennepin County Medical Center, you suck! Going to have to try to go to a doctor again Friday or Monday. Very poor patient service.

When I finally got to my room I couldn't help but notice that there was a big blob of something on the ceiling right over my head......that shock was nothing compared to the huge mess that covered the drapes and left the same huge puddle of something dried up..and orange. Someone had a food fight in my room before I got there. It was completely dried up rock hard so it had to have been there for a long time....If I could have gone any lower that would have been more accurate.....

Citadel of bullshit charges. You are going for a general check up that is covered by your insurance 100%? They'll find a way to charge you. You are promised to be billed $100 for your dermatology visit? You will receive $300 dollar bill, because you asked something during the visit and received a verbal answer.

Financial department is extremely rude, does not want to help at all. The read how much you owe them for a visit over and over again in attempt to bully you into paying all bills without understanding or disputing them.

Unless you are loaded with cash - stay away from this place. The doctors are great but their financial department should be fired and sent to prison. I'm about to enter a legal dispute with them over their bills. Wish me luck.

Perhaps not the best organized or run clinic but some of the doctors are nice. The focus (as probably with most innercity American public hospitals) is on people "on assistance". If you need a translator (Spanish, Somali, Hmong, etc) you'll be in good company here. Problems with billing, insurance coverage, stuff like that, ... well nobodies perfect!

The doctor absolutely ignored everything I told her. She saw me for 5 minutes, told me I needed PT, and left. After dropping almost $2000 on PT and the visit to HCMC, I got a second opinion and turned out she was wrong and the PT was making it worse. Listen to your patients' symptoms next time.

I was transported to the hospital via ambulance after a car accident I was in. The staff were awesome, my issue with this place is, my car accident was when I was Ubering, all of my bills were paid for under workman s comp, but they never sent my ambulance bill to them. Here, six months later, I keep getting a debt collector notice of the ambulance ride. I ve called them multiple times, and each time they said they d fix it, and here I am still receiving the same bill. Their billing department is absolutely horrible.

Staff was really nice but I dont feel like they kept very good track of me as a patient. They sent me on my way after giving me meds that made me tired and fuzzy and let me walk out the door with blood soaked into my scarf and on my face and in my hair from an injury I recieved while in their care, they also didnt take my IV out so I had to do it myself at home.

Customer service was rude on both of my visits. They charge far more than any doctor's office and the service was either the same or worse as any other place I have been. They do not bother to disclose that you will be paying 10 times as much, and they did not care for my input about the cost or type of medication that they prescribed.

I was just there for 5 days. I want to say that I have never felt more loved on and cared for by everyone there. They are the best of the best in knowlage, experience. The do have ups and downs, because some patients are difficult, but please don't let that take away from the fact they would call someone else in to help with your needs. The Nursing Staff is the BEST. Hands down. They went out of the way to make sure I was comfortable with a bigger bed and room. I was never not in the know when it came to what was going on inside me . They went through every detail of the treatment. And made sure I understood.
No place better in my book.
Thank All of you

Be very clear with them about what you are going i...

Be very clear with them about what you are going in for and make sure that it aligns with your insurance policy. They billed my insurance incorrectly and when I called to correct it they were very unwilling to comply. This is a hospital with clinics WITHIN the hospital (vey confusing for the average person). You will be charged as an "out-patient" for visiting the OB/ GYN clinic (or other clinics within the hospital). Your insurance may not cover a routine visit or what you assume to be a routine visit. I would recommend going to a regular hospital that does not have this kind of confusion.

Also, the call center for scheduling spelled my first and last name incorrectly when I was setting up an appointment. They also entered my insurance ID number incorrectly. So when I went in for my visit, it took them nearly 45 to find me in the system. I wish I had left at that! The OB I spoke with was very unhelpful in providing other options for delivering a baby besides in their clinic. She clearly held a lot of biases and her information was faulty. I have done a lot of research since then and she was wrong on many of the things she told me about midwives, birthing centers, and insurance coverage.

Just want to put some 1 star reviews out there. This is not a great place to receive healthcare--especially for woman who are in a vulnerable situation (like pregnancy). I don't think I have ever written a review in my life, but this felt necessary. I would strongly recommend looking elsewhere for healthcare.

Also, notice that most of the "5 star ratings" are given by a random "Google User " Not super trustworthy.

In 2010 my wife gave a birth to our son. It was a normal delivery. No complications during Pregnancy. She had a retained tissue after delivery. She got infection after 10 days. Came to the Emergency in HCMC, Radiologist was not able to detect any tissue. My wife, stayed in hospital for 2 days and then discharged. We were told that she is alright. No alternative diagnosing procedures were performed except ultra sound. After 10 days again, my wife got infected. We came to the HCMC hospital again. Again, Radiologist was not able to detect the retained tissue. My wife was admitted and stayed in hospital for 3 days and then released. She was on Antibiotics. She recovered a little and released. After 7 days (Third time) She was having high fever. We came to HCMC emergency. She was again admitted in hospital. Now this time (third time) radiologist was able to detect the retained tissue. It was too late. It was almost a month after the delivery. Doctor recommended the DNC procedure to get the retained tissue out of her uterus. But her Uterus was totally infested from inside and we were not aware of it. Then a student doctor under the supervision of Surgeon operated vaginally and ruptured my Uterus 3 places. 10cm cut, 4 cm cut, 12 cm cut. We were told that this procedure will take 1 hour. And it took around 9 Hours. They took my wife in the operation room at 9 AM but when she gained consciousness It was 6 PM. I was lucky that my loving wife did not die during the DNC procedure. After 12 months, My wife had to go for hysterectomy. We had the most worst experience in this hospital. In my wife case, Doctors, Radiologists, Gynecologists and the surgeons are responsible for what she is going through now and for whole of her life. STAY AWAY FROM THIS HOSPITAL, IF YOU CAN. ALWAYS GET THE THIRD OPINION FROM A SPECIALIST ELSEWHERE.

When you call your doctors office and tell them that your trying to find parking, and they tell you that you have a 10-15 minute Grace period. And, you get up to the clinic right at the 15 minute period. But, all the receptionist are busy. Then you get to your room, and come to find out that once your in your room. The medical person tells you that you have to wait for almost an hour and a half for the doctor to finish with all of their other patients, before they can see you. How is that even fair?? Especially if you have to work, and dont have any more money for the parking meter. Cause you thought you would be out within 30 minutes.

Actual worst experience I have ever had in an emergency room. Doctors have no concept of their patients time. Disappear in the middle of sewing stitches to be gone for 20 minutes. All on all for 3 stitches to be wrapped with a bandaid, my husband and I were at the hospital for 7 hours.

The actual doctors were great. We saw several, both in the ER and one later at the TBI clinic. Dr. Mortimer, a very sweet lady, took time to explain everything to us and made us feel very comfortable. Melody, a nurse at the ER, was also awesome. The front desk staff at the TBI clinic were, unfortunately, fairly rude and seemed genuinely disinterested (if not bothered) by our presence. We stood there for a solid two minutes being ignored while they finished up their conversation between themselves. When they finally got around to acknowledging our existence, they were annoyed and unfriendly. Overall, we had an equal number of good and bad encounters.

This place was under construction when we had to make our way here. My cousins were the victims of a fatal car accident involving the Beartown Wildland Firefighters who were on their way to fight a fire. One of my cousins broke his back, the other broke his jaw and was in a coma with head trauma. The care they received was beyond amazing. They had a honor guard standing outside their room ready to help them in any way they could. The staff was so supportive and made sure everyone was comfortable. They even offered us meal tickets considering we had drove overnight from Michigan. Their are some wonderful people who work here, and the view on the way to the cafeteria is pretty cool. The Stadium is in perfect view and the day we were there, a game was going on. It was a cool experience and something to take our minds off losing two of our community members that day. Hennepin County Medical Center Staff deserve these 5 stars!

I don't know what changes are going on behind the scenes, but the level of care and attention to detail has definitely declined over the last three months. We've received calls twice from the billing department for bills we never received even though they say that they've sent them out twice before (both times we received the calls, and both times we never received anything from them besides a survey). We had one department cancel and reschedule an appointment via mail, and when the second appointment day came, the doctor was over 20 minutes late, so we had to schedule a third appointment for a week later, and we have received no communication from them regarding the results from that visit. We were also recently left waiting for 40 minutes past our appointment time with a different department because the staff thought we had already been seen. I wish I had checked with the receptionist earlier, but this department has never seen us on time, so I just figured it was par for the course. So did the receptionist because she figured that the person we were scheduled to see "had overbooked himself again" and was just going to give us an update of how much longer we'd have to wait.

I want to start out by saying, this hospital has the absolute worst set up I have ever seen. It is so confusing trying to navigate the place. I parked in a handicapped spot outside purple entrance to visit nephew in ICU. Entrance was locked at 1pm on Saturday. Had to walk 2 block's, in 10 degree weather to the main entrance. Told by security to go to 7th floor MICU. Arrive there to find doors again locked. Sign said under construction with no further instructions as where or what to do. I had to find a housekeeper as there was no one around to help. She told me I would need to take elevator down to the 4th floor, and then walk down another long hallway to another set of elevators to go up to the 7th floor again. No directions posted anywhere! Then use a phone to get let in to unit after ringing 10 times someone finally let me in. Tried to find cafeteria, and again no signs anywhere
until 10 feet fro entrance, which was a small fork and spoon. I have never seen anything like it. An elderly handicapped person wandering around a hospital with no signs is totally ridiculous. The only reason I give 3 stars is because of the helpful housekeeper and nursing staff. No help or clerical staff anywhere. I won't even tell you about trying to get out. Get off the dime and PUT IP SOME SIGNS!!! If there isn't money in the budget maybe fire a Higher up position and hire some useful staff.

Absolutely phenomenal facility. I came in for a couple cracked ribs from a slip and fall on a greyhound. Due to injurys sustained in Afganistan I had to be placed on a months regimine of vancomiacine which is caustic to your veins and hence I had to have a new IV about every three days which has left me with scars on almost every conceivable vein I have. To an outsider or just at first glance it would appear that I am a needle junkie. The scars and discoloration look identical to an addicts. Instead of casting judgement and labeling me an opioid seeker the medical staff was more concerned with stabilizing my pain and a reasonable course of medical action. At no time did I feel judged, labeled,or looked down upon. The staff treated me as a human with kindness, respect, and a genuine desire to help me. The only reason they get four stars and not five is their pharmacy could not fill my prescription. Other then that, one of the most decent ER experiences I have ever had. If I could, I would do my grocery shopping at this hospital. Thank you to all the staff that performed their duties with the utmost respect, kindness and concern for my well being.

In July, 1993 I was rushed via ambulance to HCMC Trauma Ctr, with a gunshot wound to my abdomen. The bullet entered my lower back, and went strait out the front, piercing my stomach & bowel. I had tons of internal bleeding and was experiencing severe shock-I thought for sure, that I'd be another sad story in the paper the next day. That all changed when I got to HCMC...I just remember being bum-rushed (in a very good way) by several Dr's & Nurses. It was like They all had a specific task to perform, and They all performed it quickly and brilliantly. I felt like They were treating the last child on earth, and I will never, ever forget it. They most certainly saved my life...THANK-YOU HCMC!

I want to start off by saying the nursing staff and providers are all wonderful. The billing department is AWFUL! HCMC contracts out their billing department to a 3rd party.
