HCMC is great as far as saving your life goes. But...

HCMC is great as far as saving your life goes. But after that, their competency goes downhill. It's almost as though they are bored with you. I had about 4 different hospital stays (including high risk pregnancy) which most of my nurses were short with me, impatient and rude. At one time, I was in the hospital with 10 IV tubes, an NG tube and a catheter, all of which I had to tote around very carefully with me any time I needed to go to the bathroom. Most of the time, trying to coordinate 4 different IV poles at the same time, while trying not to pull anything out, was exhausting and frustrating and I would be grumbling about it the entire time. One day, a nursing assistant said to me, "You're not used to being sick, are you?" I asked her why she said that and she said, "I overheard you yelling at your IV poles." My question to her is: then why didn't you come help me??? Instead of helping me, she chose to snicker about it. I was in the hospital at that time for an coronary dissection which caused me to have a severe heart attack. I was in the hospital separated from my newborn baby and 3 children and was missing them; so no, I was not "used to being sick."

I've since decided to switch my care to another doctor at another hospital. I faxed my medical request in a week before my apt only to find in the mail that they will not release my medical records due to "missing address." I have all the necessary information on their, including drs name, fax number and phone number and hospital name with the unit it needs to go to. The only thing missing is the street address which they DO NOT need because they are supposed to FAX the information, not mail it. Now, my records will not be there on time, as my apt is in two days. Instead of googling the information, they prefer to hold the process up over a street address that they do not need. And instead of calling, they wasted even more time by mailing me this information. I'm more than disappointed in HCMC, they need to get their heads out of the drama (which is the only thing they are good at) and think more about patient care and how they treat their patients.

Hi. I cannot speak ill of all the representatives who serve you in Spanish because most of them are very friendly, but if I go to speak of a woman she seems Cuban (I'm not sure) but she was quite despotic and very curt. It seemed that the questions I asked bothered him.

"Ho, Jeffrey D, MD" was one of my doctors during an ambulance/ER encounter. I was treated extremely poorly and felt like they just wanted to give me a bunch of medicine so I wouldn't even react to the lowest quality care I have ever received. I had terrible bruising all over my arms clearly from the poor quality care. When I woke up after being passed out from all the crazy medicine he had me on, I was given a packet with very little information on it and was told to leave the ER asap so that other people could take my place.. even though I didn't even have a clean shirt or even a ride to pick me up yet. No doctor ever even came to talk to me to make sure I knew what exactly happened or what drugs they gave me or anything. Forever will be so upset, angry, and spreading the word about the terrible quality of care I received in this time of need. WORST EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE.

They have great doctors that help me from my primary care to my neurologist. I went to emergency room and I've never felt so a ashamed. They were picking in me outside my room. I checked myself out without seeing what the issue was. Saying that HCMC is awesome place for long term health. They care just the emergency room nurses need to be more quiet or stop talking bad about people they smile to my face but turn and make jokes. I give HCMC 5 stars cause 2 people talking bad about patient ME.. That should not take away stars.. HCMC has been great to me 99.9999% of time and deserve 5 stars.

I've personally had a bad experience here. This is my first review but I hope to help someone reading. I had been neglected along with others from the sounds of it. My care was definitely not first priority here. People seemed to do a lot of joking around at the desks, I've noticed mosquitoes/flys around the hospital which brings me to believe poor sanitation standards. I'd say tho the worst part of it all was the broken bone they forgot to mention. I had it scanned and was told it was bruised even after I learned two separate radiologist noted it broken, the surgeon came in and told me its sprained. Now I'm back to get this ankle fixed.

I went here with a flu and the bill came to $440 (thank God I had insurance or else it could have been $1100+). This is the first time I have been to a hospital in US and even though I had heard a lot about the exorbitant medical bills here, nothing prepared me for this. I had to be there for 4.5 hours for them to take an X-ray, my temperature, ECG, my and pressure and my diagnosis. In the end I was told I had flu, which I already knew, and I was given Ibuprofen and a cough suppressant which also I already knew I needed. I don't know what I gained out of my visit.. oh yes, my temperature jumped from 99.4 to 101 thanks to the chills I got after having had to wait too long. Back in India, the same treatment would have cost me no more than $20 and I would have been back home in an hour.. and they would have actually cured me! Lesson learnt the hard way..never again!
I can't imagine how people make ends meet in this country if they have to visit a hospital with some serious illness. I love this city and the country, but not its healthcare.

Backward barbaric idiots. NONHUMANS!

Backward barbaric idiots. NONHUMANS!
Rabbits and sheep are suffering and dying in emergency medicine training at Hennepin County Medical Center (HCMC) in Minneapolis. They need your help!

Emergency medicine residents practice on live animals they are instructed to make incisions into the throats, chests, and even skulls of rabbits and sheep. The procedures continue even if the animal dies while on the operating table. If they survive the procedures, at the end, each innocent animal is killed one by one.

This is Animal Cruelty 101! And, it's ineffective!

Cutting up and killing innocent animals to train future emergency medicine physicians is an outrage there are superior, nonanimal methods! In fact, HCMC already has a state-of-the-art simulation center that could provide the resources to replace the use of animals.

Please help stop this cruelty by taking action. Sign PCRM's petition to the CEO of HCMC urge them to stop killing rabbits and sheep and switch to simulation now!

Didn't even bother billing my insurance. They were going to charge me $972 for am ambulance ride that was literally only for a few blocks. I definitely will not be considering their services ever again. Did I also mention they had the nerve to put "Now" for the due date?

This is the worst, most incompetent, dirty, lazy, and unkept place I've ever come across. The nurses in the emergency department are all moseying around. If you're a person of color, don't even think you're getting attention. We called the call light (the button nurses use for attention from patients) FOUR TIMES. Not once, not twice, not THREE TIMES...FOUR SEPARATE TIMES and nobody ever checked on an injured person. And this isn't a headache or toothache, a person who was involved in a serious accident didn't receive proper care for several hours. Bleeding from the huge gash that resulted from the accident. Nobody came to clean it, nobody gave us information regarding the X-Rays, nothing. No doctor or even nurses practitioner around. Please, for the love of God, if you're able to visit somewhere else, PLEASE DO. Save yourself a headache. Abbott Northwestern is much better and it's 2 miles away in the same general area.

This is a teaching hospital which seems to mean instead of one doctor you might have six around the bed. Also they seem to congregate outside the door while they discuss your case, which was unsettling to me.

Second strike against this place is that you still have to share a room. This is outdated and extremely uncomfortable. Your roommate will hear all about your medical issues. What about HIPAA? I could tell you the name of my roommate, first and last, what she was in for, her health history, and much more. And we did not discuss these things. This was all from the doctors and nurses.

Last major negative is their food. 90% of it is completely unappealing and inedible. The smell at times was so bad I had to have the tray removed from the room. Kevin in food service is awesome though.

Most nurses were very nice but did seem to be overworked. There were several times I had to wait an hour and a half after calling for medication.

The place is huge and easy to get lost in. Parking is not super convenient. Plan on walking at least a half a mile to get to the hospital.

I would not choose this place. I was brought here by ambulance rather than my regular hospital.

This review is for the Brooklyn Park Clinic. The care I received from nurses and doctor were excellent and professional. The follow-up service from staff has been horrible. I requested a prescription be called to my pharmacy and it has taken over 2 days for it to be done. I received unprofessional, incompetent service over the phone. I was told by an associate today that the office has been trying to reach me for 2 days - the office has my phone number and I have not received any calls or messages. INCOMPETENT. I guess that if you urgently need a medication, this is not the clinic to go to.

I hope and pray to God that you never have to go to this place, either as a patient or as a visitor!
I don't even know why this place is open for business! Why is this the only major general hospital in this big city?
The staff here is unprofessional, unclean, rude, condescending...I can go on. The security guards are a bunch of bullies who make it hard for people to visit their dying loved ones. They are unprofessional and they hit on women who go there. There are not there to do their job but rather to interact with women and try to collect their phone numbers.
The nurses never see their patients, they send their CNAs once every 4 hours. No one responds to that red button that is designed to call for help. What if patients is dying and needs immediate life-threatening help? This place should be sued. Bunch of money-hungry, unprofessional bums!

A coworker of mine needed urgent medical care. HCMC was the closest medical facility so we headed that way. Upon arriving at the emergency room we were greeted with locked doors. No security was at the desk to let us into the emergency room. I hit a buzzer on the wall and it took somebody over 10 minutes to let us in the emergency room. I should mention that the person who let us in the room was somebody just getting to work. Pretty sad when you're at a hospital and you can't find anybody to help. First of all the security guard should have been fired. Other than that my overall experience was shity.

Several years ago when I was in the ER here and also had major surgery, I was pleased to go here. Now, I am frustrated and wondering what has happened. Waiting to make an appointment for one hour, only to find out at the number I was told to call both on My Chart and from a recording were wrong. I may seek care elsewhere. This is too frustrating.
