It's worth the visit for sure if you are in Key West.
Wonderful, felt like I learned a lot about Hemingway & might bump into him any second. Well worth it. Our guide was very genuine without looking bored or scripted.
Fasanating look into the life of Key West's most famous author
Really interesting. Great piece of history. Hope you like cats. Lol
A beautiful and Interesting home. There are 52 cats, living there, all of who cwere decendents of Hemingway's white cat. The highlight was his writing studio.
It is located in the historic center of Key West and is the home where the writer lived and wrote for ten years. The house that has now become a museum is surrounded by a lush garden in typical Caribbean style and where over forty cats live. Inside we find all the daily life of the writer and obviously many of his writings and biographies. There is also a souvenir shop and bookshop. I recommend visiting it with a guide, so as to steal anecdotes that in other ways it is not possible to discover. The price with a guide is $ 15 and reservations are not required, you can do everything on site, there is not a large crowd of people at the entrance.
Very inspirational experience to learn about the great Hemingway!
Very beautiful and educational. Best part though is the cats!
Note, they only accept cash for the entrance fee.
We took the tour while visiting Key West and enjoyed it more than we thought we would. The guide did a great job and its definitely recommended to anyone vacationing in Key West.
For those who are fond of this writer, I am sure it will have some effect entering his home, there are several interesting anecdotes that I think not many people know.
For those who are not interested in writing, you can also save yourself a $ 12 ticket. You will only seem to see a house like another with many cats bivouacking in the property
Fun seeing lots of polydactyl cats and the tour was excellent. Nice air conditioned bookstore.
Wow! Chills! Especially if you have read his books and know about his life
I love Hemmingway, and this was an excellent stop for us. Even my 16 year old sister found interestin it. Must see for anyone interested in Hemmingway.
This establishment is taking great care to protect patrons from coronavirus. There are spaced markers along the sidewalk as you wait in line to purchase tickets and as you wait for your tour of the grounds. Each tour starts at staggered times and allows up to 10 person per tour. Our tour guide was amazing! She knew the stories and told them in a comical way. Bring plenty of water as the wait may be long. Great place to visit!
It was a neat tour to take. My daughter loved all the cats.
The Ernest Hemingway Museum was a quirky and unique place to visit on my trip to Key West. There is plenty of Ernest Hemingway all over the island but this museum is the home he actually lived in. There is a ton of history on this property and a ton of cats! We did a little guided tour and enjoyed the extra tidbits we got to learn about Hemingway's life and the property itself.
Well managed with excellent tour guides. I would give six stars if I could to match the number of toes on the cats
Good if you like history or Hemingway. Some of the guides are very knowledgeable, even more so than the placards. Be sure to take the free tour, included in the ticket price. The cats are very fun to pet.
The cats were all just doing their cat, thing. Interesting details about the house and grounds, and there are no signs that say you can't get in the pool. Lol
Nicely maintained museum, beautiful grounds and house, LOTS of cats!
Lots of neat memorabilia from the life of Hemingway, the gardens are beautiful and plenty of six toed cats lazing about the place.
Entrance is $14 and is cash only yet the shop takes cards. It's a really well designed house by Asa Tift and impressive to look at (French Colonial). The tour was brief but interesting although the cats were over emphasised. Spend some time going around again independently. A tip was practically demanded at the end as no one in the group took the first hint.
Cool tour and I am not a fan of Ernest, alot of good info even for someone not interested in the author.
Beautiful and knowledge of his home is great
Not accessible in side but yes to things outside on tour
We visited a few years ago. I had wanted to come here since I was a kid. It was so much fun! There are dozens of polydactyl cats. So cute! The tour is informative and the house is interesting to see!
A beautiful home,exactly how I imagined.
We did not take the guided tour, however here and there we listened in and may be next time we will do the same .
Everything is well maintained . My favorite part for the garden . Very nice and gives you that magestic feel that something amazing was created under the shady trees .
As you walk the house and looking ay the furniture, the books you feel the same - being part of history.
If you love Hemingway - and who doesn't - this is a great stop to fill your mind with some culture.
I would not recommend it for youngwr children. They won't be able to appreciate it yet.
However my 17 year old absolutely loved it- but I think the cats hanging around helped alot.
Enjoy
Interesting place to see a beautifully maintained home, and 6-toed cats everywhere you look. Take the guided tour. Lots of local history and humor.
Great place too see, if you are allergic to cats don't go in. Garden is beautiful. The history is awesome
Nice to do but over priced and seeing it once is enough
Worth visiting, but the smell of cats urine is strong enough.
Amazing house where one of the best writer spent some years of his life and where guests can know about his life and much more about him.
My son just keeps wanting to go back. Very reasonable prices!
We visited one day with rain. That was difficult. The house is very nice and my children loved all the cats around the gardens. It was a quick tour.
A piece of American history not to be missed in Key West.
The tour guide was an awesome lady! We found it to be a great Key West activity for Boy Scouts from Sea Base.
Ernest was not a very nice man so the fascination with him is weird. This place makes you wish you were a cat. The architecture and furniture are really cool.
Beautiful hemingway colonial house inside many interesting details $ 14 to enter are not few
A must if you re in Key West. Especially if you love cats! Wouldn t suggest if you don t love cats.
A very interesting and fun stop by a piece of history. The tour guide was excellent and didn't cost anything (aside from tips if you choose). The cats on the property make this an extra special visit. In my photo you'll see "Hairy" S. Truman, quite the distinguished gentleman.
Excellent experience things about him anyway I did not know the docent was funny but technically correct with his information would do it again and again
I have been a fan of Papa Hemingway since Junior High. This was a very informative tour with a knowledgeable guide.
Great guide, very knowledgeable and charismatic. Beautiful home and very interesting historical site
An interesting place if you are looking for a cultural break in Key West. They only accept cash, no credit card.
Very interesting and fun filled facts to read as you tour this home. Their is a small fee to tour house n grounds. Not wheelchair accessible , no parking lot or structure . NO food or drink allowed or sold , no public bathroom , no pets allowed and no feeding the many cats that do live their and no petting them as well. Pictures r allowed to b taken inside n out of property.
It made it through the hurricane practically unscathed.
You must go to this historic house and learn the interesting life of Ernest Hemingway ...vida loca !
Cats get 5 stars, tours are good, $14 entrance fee is too steep.
I just finished my tour and am extremely dissatisfied by the experience. I was in a tour with a family whose children were talking to their parents and the tour guide rudely said excuse me to them in the ugliest tone. My biggest tip would be just because you say excuse me does not mean that you are being polite. It was an older man who apparently hadn't had his coffee in the morning. Children will be children. They weren't being roudy. They just needed to ask their parents something. The best part of the tour was the cats otherwise it was not at all worth it to me. Ernest Hemingway was a glorified cheater with a lot of cats. That is the moral of his story. Definitely would not go again or recommend to anyone else.
Worth the entree fee - great insight into the writers works, setting, and lifestyle, fun exploring the many cats on site
Excellent museum with free guided tours if you like.
Cool place to visit, not as much to see as I thought
The six toed kitties, beautiful home, and stories of Hemingway make this a great visit.
Very interesting, old Key West house, with memorabilia and pictures of Ernest Hemingway, and his friends and family. We skipped the herded tour.
Must when visiting Key West. CASH ONLY NO PLASTIC!!!
Was really not there for the tour. Been there before and just wanted to see the cats. You can't get in though without paying for the tour. Cash only.
Loved our visit here. Tour guide was delightful, educated and entertaining. One our favorite stops in Key West and just a stones throw from other attractions on Duval St. Be sure to visit this attraction on your trip. Plan to stay for about an hour. Interior is kept cool with fans. Restrooms on site.
The first indoor Swimming pool in Key West, worth to check it out!
Well worth the cost, take the tour, a lot to learn and fun.
If you are on vacation at the key don't miss it! It is one of the various homes of the famous writer. Here you can see its famous salt-water swimming pool (which at the time cost him a fortune, so much so that he even cemented a penny to have spent almost all of them for its construction). This house is also inhabited by the descendants of Hemingway's cat, famous for having 6 fingers, an anomaly that has also been transmitted to subsequent generations.
