Our guide, Doug, was excellent. He had a good sense of humor and he was very informative. My buddy and I learned so much on the guided tour that does not cost anything extra. There is a lot to see and learn here. I guess I have to start reading more Hemingway after visiting the birthplace of America's most interesting man.

I had to come home and start reading The Sun Also Rises, Hemingway's 1st novel and one I'd somehow not read. There's a strong feeling of his presence. That was largely due to the wonderful guide, who seemed to know everything there is to know about Ernest Hemingway. She shared lots of details and background stories. It was an excellent tour.

Amazing tours! Great history. Lovely gift shop; I bought a dad hat with a Marlin on it. The cats are everywhere; the tour guide said there are more than 50 of them sprawled out on the property. Visit Moondog for grub afterwards.

Beautiful historic home and wonderful tour. Although it was very crowded while we were there, our docent was engaging and informative. Especially enjoyed seeing the polydactyl cats that are descendants of Hemingway's beloved pet. Interesting to learn about the original architect and builder, as well as the history of the construction of the home and it's eventual restoration by the Hemingways...and the addition of their infamous pool. Great gift shop.

If you like Hemingway and cats, you've come to the right place. I've been here three times now and I like it a lot. I could imagine living like that. If you are in Key West, you should definitely take a trip.

A great place to escape to. Time stands still, and it can certainly be said that Ernest Hemingway lived in interesting times. Come for the author, stay for the architecture. The beautiful polydactyl cats serve as emissaries to a moment frozen and a generation lost.

It was my first time to Florida this past weekend & I was lucky enough to go to the Keys! The Hemingway house was one of my favorite stops. Our tour guide, JL was amazing! She was so funny & very informative! I m not even a cat person but I loved all the cats, one of them even kept following me around :-) I will definitely come back & would recommend this to anyone!

Impressive building with beautiful Murano chandeliers, fanciful tiles, and quaint decor. The tour is the perfect length and filled with history, personal stories, and fun facts.
The six-toed cats are a must-see for any cat aficionados. They also have their own website where you can keep up with them.

A Glimpse of Hemingway

A Glimpse of Hemingway

My husband and I enjoy visiting museums. We visit the Keys frequently and usually visit a couple of the museums each time. This trip we were staying on a different key and so only took a day trip to Key West. This was a fun way to get a glimpse into Ernest Hemingway. I do not think the house is an exact replica of what it looked like when he lived there however the period pieces are interesting. A couple of photos attached.

The museum is a house that Hemingway purchased with his second wife and she got the house in the divorce apparently so Hemingway only lived in it a few years however one of the interesting facts I learned was that while he did not live long there, he yet wrote a majority of his works there. I think that alone says a lot about the man.

And I learned more than I realized or thought I would. For instance I never realized that he was still a young man when he lived there and yet he is always represented in photos with the grey hair and beard (the famous portrait) all over the Keys. And I never realized all his accomplishments. And loved the story about his "last red cent". That second wife sounds like quite the character herself.

The house was old when Hemingway purchased it so the tour begins with a history of the house and the previous owner. Also very interesting.

I included a photo of one of the six toed cats.

The most interesting man in the world. If it weren't true, no one would believe this man's life. Great tour, exceptionally friendly and knowledgeable guides. The polydactyl cats are unbelievably adorable. A must for key west.

One of the best historic home tours that I have been to. Pauline was our guide and she had the group enthralled with stories and facts. She knew all the names of the cats and pointed out their favorite spots.

The house and grounds we're beautiful. The only reason I didn't give this review 5 stars was because it was difficult to hear our tour guide. She would also begin speaking before everybody from the tour was in the same room, so we would miss a lot of what she said. It was also very loud on the tour, but the tour guide tried her best to speak up.

Historical home nestled amongst a well kept garden. So many cats, 57 when I visited. And yes, you can pet them! I highly recommend the free tour, you'll learn so much! Definitely worth the price of admission.

Beautiful! Don't pick up the cats, but you can pet them. Steve gave us an awesome and informative tour of the house - he seemed very passionate about his job, and very knowledgeable. Don't forget to take a picture under the archway with your S.O.!

What can he more exciting than visiting the Ernest...

What can he more exciting than visiting the Ernest Hemingway's home! It was a childhood dream come true. Fun fact - Hemingway produced 70% of his life's work here as he lived here for 9 years. That's amazing. Other facts about this place - cats, cats everywhere. And there aren't normal cats they are special cats with 6 fingers/claws whatever you want to call them. Science calls them polydactyl cats. This Gene anomaly was passed on from Hemingway's first cat - Snowball. Now they are selectively bred to preserve the gene pool. There are 40+ cats in the house and Hemingway wrote this house to the cats, they own the house and property!

Alright, enough Wikipedia facts, tips and info about the place itself.
- Very limited parking, so park elsewhere in a quiet street like Angela street and walk here or bike here.
- Tickets are about $16 and CASH ONLY! They have an ATM inside that you can use or carry cash - cash is King people and also it is 2018 so carry cash!
- Free guided tour - you might have to wait for the next available guide. Guides are very knowledgeable and good - remember to too them at the end of the tour.
- Cats are everywhere, they are vaccinated and cute and they aren't affected by all the people walking around. They are well fed and chubby, I would blame too much treats. Notice their extra fingers, you will be amazed. There is also a cat cemetery with a plaque that has their names (named after Hemingway's friends). You can find cats sleeping in Hemingway's bed too.
- The house isn't to fancy but ideal and generous. Remember to go up to his writing studio. There is a book store on the ground floor where you can find books ofcourse written by Hemingway and also a lot of collectibles and memorabilia.
- Lots of restrooms Available as well - very well maintained and clean, the staff is nice and helpful.
- You can also book the grounds and gardens of Hemingway's house for events like weddings and parties - fancy. Check with them for details.

Remember this is on a crowded street and closes at 4 I think or 5pm. Check out my pictures and if you like it give it a like. Thanks
