Beautiful place
Was especially thrilled that it is wheelchair/scooter accessible. Wish it was closer to home.

Well maintained trails, wheelchair accessible, and a great nature center. We come here a lot. One of our favorite places in the Fox Valley.

Great reserve to unplug and be with nature. Bird watchers favorite spot in the area. You will spot a wide variety of animals. Activities and events for everyone. Well kept and clean place to visit.

One of the best parks we have been to! Wildlife all over!

This is a beautiful place to go to just break away from the city with in the city limits. And on beautiful days a great place to take the family for a picnic with nice picnic tables right at the beginning of the park. They have a Nature Center to enjoy looking at turtles, fish and other information about the wild life in the area, very informational. They also have environmental education programs many are open to the public, see their program schedule for more information.
Then after you have seen that you can head out on the trials that stretch out over76 acres.
You'll come across a little lake in the back part of the woods and then wooden trials lead all over the wetlands with nice benches through out the park to sit and relax while enjoying the beauty of the day and watching the wild life.
At the end of the trial there is a playground setting in a natural way for the children to play and the adults to watch.
This park has many enjoyable areas that each person will enjoy

My son and I have enjoyed Heckrodt since he was 2. He's now 4, and we still enjoy visiting Heckrodt for strolls through the park.

Quick easy trails with pleantiful wildlife. Bring you big spray!

Great nature walk. Common animals found here are deer, frogs, painted turtles, turkeys, many different species of birds and many others. If you are lucky you may find a red fox in the prairie.

Host is kind of rude & abrupt to children. My grandson was just looking at the fish & she snapped at him about the glass aquarium. Other than that we loved visiting here. Beautiful place.

It was a great time. Saw 4 deer the weather was great.

Meditation zone. And also great place to go for a stroll with love ones. Animal observation is also a great plus.

I enjoy going here. It is relaxing to unwind and enjoy nature. I often see 6 to 10 deer roaming about.

I love coming here to look at nature. It has well maintained trails and friendly staff.

Visited Heckrodt for the first time this past Sunday! It was very well kept and easy to walk. The board walks were a little slippery after rain and a tad bit covered in algae so be careful walking. Might be a little difficult with little ones as there aren't much railings on the board walk. Would be a perfect spot to grab a book and just enjoy the sounds of nature.

Good for a short walk/hike with plenty of nature and wildlife viewing!

Alot to do with family or on your own whether it is bird watching or just enjoying the peacefulness of the preserve. Even saw people doing Pokemon' Go. There are many benches to sit down on if you are getting tired. My only complaint is that on the periphery of the perserve the sounds and sights of civilization distract from the enjoyment of the preserve experience.

Good spot to go for a walk. Well maintained Trails and boardwalks to put your feet on. There is a good chance you will see some wildlife. Don't forget to go in and say hi to Mr. Turtle.

One of my favorite places to get away in the city. Seems like you're in another world. A ton of active animals. Saw deer, muskrats, ducks, woodpeckers, and huge jumping fish tonight.

This was our first visit and what a cool place!! We must have drove past this place a gazillion times without realizing it was there,lol,but now that we know all about it, it's going to be a regular favorite destination spot, regardless of the season..the entire sanctuary is so easy to walk,the paths are beautiful and so well kept,they're great for strollers or wheelchairs and they're wide enough for kids to run! We saw one big deer standing right in the middle of the path& squirrels everywhere. Lots of different birds,too..the grounds themselves are absolutely immaculate,not even a gum wrapper on the ground which was unbelievable &very awesome! The indoor section of the sanctuary is just as amazing with all sorts things for kids to see&learn and actually TOUCH! Although the indoor learning center is more geared towards school aged children&adults,there are other things to do and see for the younger kids as well! We had a great time there and look forward to coming back in Autumn! The trees will be spectacular!!

Took a walk this crisp, cold morning & had some nice encounters with the resident deer!

I love this place! It's so peaceful and well done. So much to see. The boardwalk through the wetlands is always kept up and maintained. Excited for the kids area they are building.

Heckrodt Wetland nature center is a great community resource. I have been going there since it was first created in the late 1990s. It is small but definitely worth a visit.

Great nature reserve with many trails for scenic views or photo opportunities.

Beautiful outdoor nature. Turtles, beavers, fish, and deer.

The whole family loves going to Heckrodt. Love being in nature but walking on the boardwalk. Love seeing deer, owls, turtles, and the list goes on.

Fleet Farm is a really nice place to shop reasonably priced and they have almost everything.

A magical place in our backyard. Always something to see if you take your time and are alert. My all time favorite Nature Reserve!!

This is by far one of my favorite places to ever take my children. it's amazing it's educational and it's just relaxing.

Quaint nature reserve with fun walking paths throughout marshlands. Great for a nice afternoon walk

Free walking trails in wetlands preserve with plenty of parking. Would recommend trying it, the animals are very use to seeing people which means you can see them up close. If you have kids they will enjoy the trip here.

Heckrodt is amazing! The long trail is about half boardwalk, half crushed stone. Fairly level. Very nice for all levels of fitness and ability.

There's a lot of visible and audible access to wildlife.

There is a ground level play area for young kids. A "canopy walk" will be built in the summer of 2020.

Well cleared trails, a lot on boardwalks with plenty of interpretive signs. Trails are a half and one mile long but all join up nicely and are easy to follow.

I wish people wouldn't be so disrespectful littering the preserve. but this place is wonderful

It looks like the baby owl is getting ready to fly.

Easily identifiable trails to follow and many stop to read learning plaques. Wish the nature center building would have been open still good nonetheless

Beautiful! Very nice hiking trails. Building has different exhibits , some hands on displays, and a other surprises. Several different trails are clearly marked and easy to follow. You might even see some wildlife on your hike.

We saw a lot of deer on the path. Snapping turtles in the pond area. Beautiful flowers.
