Such a beautiful place. Great trails/boardwalks, and almost guaranteed to see wildlife!
Wonderful nature walk. Cool main building as well. Well laid out walk distances and trails.
Beautiful trails and plenty of wildlife too see and the nature museum is great!
Beautiful place with wooden boardwalks, dirt trails, and a deck overlooking a beautiful pond. You can consistently see deer, turkey, turtles every time truly an amazing place.
Trails are great and well maintained. Lot of wildlife with great trail markers. The center is fun to.
The kids and adults love coming here. We saw deer, turkeys - even a mostly white one. The kids caught Garter snakes and let them go again. Nature at it's best
Opportunity to view animals in their natural habitat, deer, various birds etc.
Trails are not lengthy, but nice and we'll kept. Play area is awesome.
Love the nature of the plants and animals! My child loves going there.
We loved this Nature Preserve! We saw a couple of owls lots of Wildlife and then the naturalist was walking out on the trails and visited with us to point out the baby red foxes that had been running around Inside the building the grandchildren loved, loved, loved all the wildlife, fish and animals displayed. I would recommend it to any family. We brought a picnic lunch and had a very enjoyable day!
OMG! We had a Chickadee land on us today! It was an experience of a lifetime! Also saw a Tufted Titmouse on the feeder. Saw a Great Blue Heron too. Many other wonderful things. Nice walking on the new trails. We explored the prairie area - lovely. yes
Any time of year you can walk the trails and see a glimpse of Northeast Wisconsin's nature. Keep an eye out for various birds such as owls, ducks, birds of prey & water fowl. Fox, deer, squirrels, etc. It's free.
Great place to get away from it all and experience nature.
Great trails for walking, many photo opportunities.
I was working as an IT contractor at RR Donnelly and I found this trail was very close. I used to walk it daily on my lunch breaks and saw all kinds of awesome wildlife including Whitetail Deer, Sandhill Cranes, Garter Snakes, etc. The wooden trail leads to a really nice educational building that has a lot of live animals on display including Sturgeon and Turtles. Take a drive, take a walk, enjoy the outdoors!
Wonderful Peaceful wetlands nature hike. Beautiful flowers in bloom and all sorts of Birds and critters.
Enjoyed the site of owls in the trees and an amazing thunderstorm
Thoroughly enjoyed our walk through this beautiful place.
Beautiful little park. The walking paths are great. It's a nice little nature area to visit. Our girls love the outdoor play area and could spend hours playing.
Left the reserve today and found a groundhog in distress in the parking lot and right where a car could run it over. The office attendant said she was the only person there, would not leave the confines of her office and we should let nature run its course. Never came out to investigate or show any concern. Seriously? The reserve and it's wildlife deserve much better.
Very pleasant nature reserve with a great field house full of taxidermy and live specimens too.
Heckrodt is a peaceful and educational nature center right in Menasha.
Have been walking this trail for decades. Every year there are improving every year. Lots of memories under these trees! A treasure for the community.
Nice nature preserve and wildlife area. Has things to see indoor and outdoor. Great opportunity to see the beauty of nature and its animals
Beautiful nature reserve!! Boardwalks throughout, wildlife galore! Owls, foxes, deer, many bird species. Full hike is about an hour but you could spend all day.
Great little place with a surprisingly extensive network of trails that make you feel far more removed from the city than you actually are. Well-constructed boardwalks wind through wooded swamp, with occasional open water where one might find wood ducks and other wildlife. There are several goodies tucked away among these trails... like a blind, a large reconstruction of an eagle nest (which looked like it was meant to be climbed in), and a playground. There are also a large number of apparently resident deer that are easily spotted.
If you only have a short time, the smaller western edge of the reserve has much shorter trails that still boast some interesting things, including a stretch of open water which often hosts several species of waterfowl, a bridge spanning a small creek, and a small meadow. The staff seem to keep their bird feeders well-stocked, and Tufted Titmice are among the frequent visitors. Inside the nature center itself is a plethora of taxidermy as well as live specimens of native species. And the nice clean indoor bathrooms are always appreciated... Especially in winter!
Heckrodt is a great place for a short walk. Very well maintained trails and lots of educational features. I don't have kids, but it seems like an excellent place to bring them!
Beautiful park to walk through and really enjoy the relaxing walk:)
Beautiful preserve. Raised wood walkways allow you to enjoy the beauty of a Wisconsin marsh.
Great trails and really interesting to place to visit several times throughout the year and see all of the changes that occur each season. Almost always deer around. My kids love the new play area. It is really impressive.
The beauty of walking through these wetlands in breathtaking. You'll often see deer in the woods, turtles assuming themselves in the pond, and enough bird species to fill a guidebook. The nature center is small yet informative, with knowledgeable and friendly staff there to answer questions.
Such a peaceful sanctuary and refuge for animals and people alike. Make sure to wear Mosquito spray, and if you have the time, bring along your binoculars to see the variety of birds & wildlife hidden throughout the Marsh.
What a beautiful wonderful place to walk out in nature!!! Never the same adventure with spring blossoming out!
Nice place to walk abd relax your mind for a minute.
An unbelievable treasure hidden at the edge of the Fox Cities. Live deer, turkeys, and songbirds are daily sights.
Fantastic outdoor reserve that my family and I like to visit frequently for a nice long walk together. We always see a wide variety of animals such as deer, turkey, woodpecker, frogs, etc. I really like the wooden trail due to pushing my son in a stroller so it is a smooth walk.
Fabulous, just beautiful a hidden gem . Boardwalk through the woods. Deer , turtles and birds... A lovely natural paradise. Great for families and friends...
It was such a beautiful spot I recently visit while on vacation.
The trails are very well kept here, and very nice to walk through. There's a lot of interesting things in the nature center, and they have a "World Beneath Our Feet" play area on the trail.
Well maintained trails. Handicap accessible and lots of wildlife. We usually see 8 deer throughout the reserve.
Wonderful afternoon. Saw a baby crane and two deer.
Nice place for a walk or taking the kids to explore
Great place for everyone! Free! Great/easy trails! Nice nature center with small animals...fish, turtles, frogs, & snakes.
Took my 2yr old granddaughter to see bugs!! Ended up seeing momma turkey with her baby cross our path. Than a momma dear with her twins, with one walking less than 5 feet from my granddaughter. We has such a great time that we plan on going back next week!! The staff are so friendly and helpful and they want you to go out and enjoy the center and all it has to offer!!
We've been going there for years with our granddaughter. We all think it's a great place for kids but really great for everyone.
A great trail, especially if you just want to escape into nature. You will see a few animals (if you're quiet), and there is a variety of plants to look at as well. A wonderful place to take the young ones for learning about flora, fauna, etc. The trails are well kept too which makes the whole experience more enjoyable.
Well kept paths. Usually see some sort of wildlife. (Deer, turtles, turkeys, geese and ducks, frogs, snakes, cranes) Several different paths to explore, through woods, prairie, wetland areas. Options for a short walk or longer, none are very long. Easy for my three year old to complete in an hour. Mostly flat. Not paved but paths are not soft - would be fine with a regular stroller or wagon. Lots of wooden walkways over the wet areas. There is a kids play area made to integrate into the natural surroundings, lots of natural things to play on. Good place for a quick outing (hour or so). Bikes are not allowed. There is a nature center but I've never been in it.
It's always great. Loved watching the owls and omelettes.
Your new playground is amazing! My kiddos and I enjoyed it so very much!
A very unexpected delight. Lots of wildlife and great hiking! It is kind of a hidden gem.
A great place to hike--woods, water and wild animals. The deer and turkey are not shy. They rent skis and snowshoes in the winter.
Hidden gem. Miles of boardwalks, quality nature center.
Great place to get immersed in nature, without having to go far. Always see deer, and other critters. Very peaceful.
A very nice place to visit at the edge of one city before you reach the next. I've seen several different kinds of Wildlife and birds every time I visit. There is no cost.
Just beautiful. Lovely walk along a nearly mile long deck surface.
My kids love walking the trails with me and checking out the nature center
Lots to do for all ages! Love the playground for the kids and the "hidden" tracks to find along the path (just wish we knew what animal tracks we were looking at)
We love going for walks here. Year round activities, which helps when that cabin fever kicks in around February. Lots to listen to and see.
Great day of snowshoeing. Nice trails with plenty of wildlife.
Great local place to see lots of beautiful nature and wildlife!
Heckrodt is an amazing oasis that is easily accessible for all. This is where I go to escape, even for a short walk, from the everyday grind. It is like stepping into a magical world where you can forget about your worries and experience and appreciate the wonders of nature.
Almost every time I go to Heckrodt I see some sort of wild life, whether it be owls, foxes, groundhogs or deer. It is natural beauty at it's finest. The staff that are working here are always friendly and helpful.
If you haven't been here definitely check it out!
Easy to find and walk trails. Very kid friendly unfortunately, you have to leave the four legged family members behind. It helps protect the reserve and the abundance of wildlife to be found there.
Beautiful area. Fairly well maintained. Nice walking trails.
There's always abundant wildlife and well kept trails, lots of engaging activities for the kids.
Thank God I've never been there. But the kids all love it. Both sides, so fabulous job all around.
