Nice hiking within the city. The trails are made of boardwalk, so it doesn't get muddy.
A wonderful and serene place. Beutiful all year round, and has proven to be a tranquil place to do classwork or to inspire my writing. It is amazing how close some of the wildlife will get, especially when you sit still. There is also several different hiking paths to choose from ranging from short to rather long (well long for being in the cities) which is just amazing how much nature exists in suburbia. If you go during the spring or summer you may want to have some sort of plan for mosquitoes. I havn't been inside the nature center itself as it closes around four or four thirty, but I can confidently vouch for the rest of the place!
Nice little area. They have a path that goes over the wetland and it s nice to see that. Enjoyed the walk there.
Wow! The new playground was so much fun! Our little kids loved it! Always have liked this nature center
Nicely constructed wooden pathways, wide enough for keep distance with current times. Very peaceful and quiet.
$5 snow shoe rentals and the deer walked right up to us
It is a great close by place to take your family and hike around and do other nature Adventures.
We love going to Heckrodt. Today we went right after a heavy rain. Everything was wet and the colors popped. The sounds of nature were wonderful. We saw 7 deer. They get pretty close to people since they are used to it. I did not get a picture of the fawn. Adorable! My son liked playing Pokemon Go also.
What a wonderful area! Took a short stroll down one of the trails while waiting for the meeting to start, to my delight a deer slowly crossed 5 feet in front of me, totally relaxed and simply stopped at the trails edge to eat... There 4 others just off the edge of the trail.
Awesome place to take the kids to walk off energy saw all kinds of birds, ducks and deer up close
We went snow shoeing on the trails that were groomed. The trails were well marked and easy. I wish they were longer but it is a small wooded park.
Very beautiful. Great place to take a hike and just get outside.
Great wildlife area for all ages just on the edge of the city area. Not huge but a lot packed into the space yet well organized. Great place to take kids for an hour inside and an hour or two outside.
Such a beautiful and wonderful Nature Preserve. I would go to it more often now that I found it
Well maintained boardwalks through acres of woods and swampy areas. Very kid friendly. A favorite area of ours to go for a walk.
Serene place and Love that we saw a few deers minding there own and not scared off from us as we were talking and passing by them and then 15 minutes later at a different spot along the reservation another 4 were in a group less then 10 yards from us and never ran off. Had plenty of time to get my camera out and get some sweet pictures!
Very well maintained, my favorite nature center in the valley.
Awsome trails and beautiful nature and love the deer and black squirrels!
Visited on a VERY hot June afternoon & had a wonderful experience. Saw turtles & was able to get very close to a deer. Trails are well marked & well maintained. The canopy of trees provided the right amount of shade to keep us cool enough to walk several of the trails.
I love to go walk these trails. They are so full of life if you just look and listen. So much beauty and peacefulness. Would certainly recommend. Just remember that there WILL be mosquitoes.
Great hiking. The nature center has tons of info for the kids plus fish, turtles and snakes for the kids to look at.
Love this place try to go here once a week with tge kids
A very special place.
Surrounded by the sounds of wildlife instead of the city. If you go patiently, quietly enough, expect some close encounters with local wildlife. My son and I were fortunate to see everything from deer to woodpeckers up close. And a skunk, sorry we didn't hang around to take a picture of that, haha.
Don't underestimate how much there is to see here, the trails alone easily add up to a couple miles. So plan ahead to take some time here. It's worth it.
There is a dedicated play area for small children, however it was under construction last time we were there. I intend to come back with the kids and check it out though- what I saw from the outside looks wonderful.
There is a paved walk\bike trail nearby that goes almost straight to Jefferson Park.
Professional photographers are required to purchase a permit first.
No biking, these trails are foot traffic only. Mostly level terrain, well maintained. Nothing narrow or difficult.
Our family loves going to Heckrodt to walk and play.
Always beautiful, very brave wildlife, well maintained trails.
I just love walking in the woods out there it's beautiful and it makes Menasha outstanding place to visit
Limited parking but very nice place to hike and share nature with the kids.
Amazing piece of nature. Easy to get to. Staff was great giving a tour and very knowledgeable.
We've visited Heckrodt a minimum of 20+ times in the last 3 years and EVERY time has been great. The employees are always helpful and kind to not only me but my young children as well.
The parking lot, trails, indoor spaces and bathrooms are always clean. You can tell they take pride in their environment.
The new outdoor kids park is a gentle but stimulating experience for kids of all ages, including little ones. (The only thing I wish they would get rid of or put a small fence around is the mini pond.)
Most of the trail is on a boardwalk. Almost every visit we see deer, Chipmunks, a variety of cool birds + bugs, and of course, squirrels and bunnies.
Take your kids or yourself here and let everyone experience nature!
Great place for a quick walk, hit the board walks through the marsh.
Well done urban natural wetlands. Lots of birds and photographers. Great play area for families. Open year round for nature hikes. Boardwalk makes it very accessible.
Clean, inviting, beautiful area to relax and just take in nature!
Great place to walk and they have free level 2 car charging. Thank you!
Nice trails and a great nature center to bring kids!
My daughter went on a class field trip there and loved it!
Original, old time looking play ground area with spots for ziplining, climbing, sliding, and mud pie make! Any kid would love it. Great trails for adults, too.
LOVE this place. Beautiful, calming, and the new kids play space is AWESOME!!!!
We enjoyed talking a walk through here. We saw a small fawn and plent of birds. The trails were nice for a stroller.
A hidden gem in the middle of the town! Boardwalk to walk on, playground for kids and clean restrooms. Deer were roaming around the property and not afraid as I was walking the premises.
The boardwalks are really cool. Makes it easy to explore out in nature and see lots of birds and wildlife. Some parts of the trail are a little too close to the road and the noisy kids play area near the entrance, but the further back you walk it's more quiet, secluded and picturesque.
Wonderful wet land nature preserve only complaint are the out house bathrooms
I always see some of the wildlife and the nature walks are very nice.
Beautiful trails and a lot of wildlife to see like deer, turtles, and many kinds of birds. We see deer every time we go. It's fun to see them with the kids.
Wonderful park. Tons of work put in by many great people to make it special.
The scenery is mostly swamp, wetland and mossy foliage. Not great for photography, unless you're looking for a generic green background (not a whole lot of variety). There's a fair amount of wildlife, in the two hours I was here I saw about a dozen turkeys and two deer, but the scenery left a lot to be desired, though it could just be the time of year (early June). The indoor exhibit is pretty cool, with lots of live fish, as well as turtles, reptiles, etc. and quite a bit of historical information. Honestly, I prefer the indoor exhibit to the outdoor stuff, since there's much more to look at. Regardless, since it's free and close to home for me, I'd probably visit again. I wouldn't recommend driving a great distance to see it though, as you'll probably be disappointed.
A beautiful place to share with my coach.
The ice fog has been remarkable.
