Beautiful setting and location. The Manor was lovely with lots of interesting rooms full of history. The spa was great and really relaxing. The staff were all friendly and helpful. The room was spacious and beds are so comfortable. I would definitely visit again.

Visited Hanbury Manor for my sister in laws 30th birthday. We all had wonderful treatments and a lovely relaxed weekend. Only problem was the hair dryer did not work in room and we had to ask for slippers and robes. I would however visit again.

This review is for an old English manor that was c...

This review is for an old English manor that was converted to a hotel. It is a bit difficult to review because I have to use two different criteria that sometimes oppose each other.

First off, in the context of nostalgia:

It is picturesque and beautifully located on 200 acres. There is a fantastic golf course that is a main appeal. I do not golf but I appreciate what it offers in that regard to those who do. I hear from my golfing buddies that the course is excellent. You can walk a path to the city of Ware nearby as well. The food at the hotel is fantastic! Loved everything I got. Breakfast buffet is wonderful! I suggest the fish and chips, the club sandwich and the toffee pudding. They were incredible!

Now in the context of other modern hotels:

The hotel IS NOT air conditioned but the weather was beautiful for sleeping at night. However...you have to have your windows open if you want airflow. Each room has a small table fan to help in that. The common areas are nice and modern and have good WiFi for free BUT the rooms do not. There is WiFi in your room you can pay for or get for free if you are a Gold member BUT it is rather poor.
My room was in rather poor upkeep. The electric sockets were sparse and one had a loose connection. The outer door handle stuck down and had to be manually righted most times. There were a few insects in the room from the open windows with no screens, but they were not a nuisance. The tea kettle was low quality and would not shut off automatically when boiling, plus it was highly calcified. The refrigerator was warmer than it needed to be. The carpet was a bit dirty. I think it was due to age because I do believe they ran the vacuum daily, however. The room did not have washcloths so when I told the young lady at the front the next morning, she seemed a bit put out that I did not say something the night before and seemed to scold me. I give her the benefit of the doubt however and do leave it open that it may have been my perception. However - this place should have 10 stars for the most incredible water pressure I have ever seen!!!

So I give it 3 stars. I feel it fair because it should be 4 stars for nostalgia and the food but only 1 or 2 stars when compared against other places in the modern context.

I hope it helps you in your decision and I definitely think it is worth a trip if you are in the area.

Beautiful surroundings and conference facilities were great. Food was average and although the rooms were large and spacious it felt like the walls were pretty thin. I could hear the conversations in the next room. Overall it s a lovely place but just fell short in a few areas.

Lovely looking hotel but not a great experience. We called the night before to have an early check in but was told that due to the hotel being booked fully it was unlikely. So we ended up arriving 1 hour later then expected. To find out that our room. Kings suite was still not ready! And then was told we would have to wait 40 more miniuts to get in. Apparently because we was the last to arrive we missed out the clean rooms?????. Words from Reception.

Once in th room, toilet seat broken and other decorating issues. I understand it is a manor but it should be kept well.

On a good note the staff were helpful and dinner was 7/10.

Don t think I will stay again unless we have to for a wedding etc.

Came to Hanbury Manor for tea. The atmosphere was lovely. But orders were taken wrong. The amount paid per person, I would rather go to the ritz where you pay similar and they are far more attentive.

I had a buy a gift for me and my partners anniversary for a spa day .
I must say the worse spa day ever I have been to other spas and this was no more then a small dark glorified leasure centre .no bed to lay on as only about 6 as yr in roabes workman and fully clothed people walking about fully dressed .
Wanting a different time for treatments as was told early time on email thay wouldn't move them .
On complaining was only offered another day of hell.
If you buy a gift voucher on line no refund can be given or a different activity .
Nothing was nice pool looked dirty and I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone who thinks there going to a relaxing spa .
It's awful and no one wants to help you have a good experience even second time around .
DON'T GO !!

We had to rearrange our wedding venue in light of Covid-19 and the staff at Hanbury Manor were fantastic. I stayed in the Hanbury Suite over the wedding weekend and it was the perfect place to get ready with the bridesmaids. Plenty of space, very clean and beautiful views of the golf course. It was also very quiet which was perfect.

Breakfast and the evening meal were lovely. A lot of effort was put in by all staff to respect the Covid-19 guidelines without it overwhelming the stay.

The reception staff were incredibly helpful with all the logistics for the wedding and helping us take a lot of stuff from a number of cars in preparation for the reception. Dana was fantastic on the wedding day, making sure everything ran smoothly and being so respectful of the day, she was brilliant. As were Sarah and Emily, the wedding coordinators who helped in the build up and on the day.

It is truly a beautiful place to stay, the grounds are immaculate and we will be back very soon!

Nice function rooms with good afternoon tea. Service ok. Room quite nice but a very long way to walk from car park to reception to room with lots of baby baggage! Breakfast - depends what you want. Continental quite good but eggs Benedict disappointing! If you're going to offer it, employ someone who can cook eggs! Ham was very dry as well.

Avoid.

Avoid.

The hotel cancelled my reservation half way through the actual morning of the arrival day, blaming computer problems. And the manager concerned did it via email - not even the courtesy of a phone call. Unbelievable. Not a clue how to treat the customer.

Worst experience ever of a 5 star hotel. I believe he got the 5 stars for having an old rooms, unfriendly staff, very unhelpful, missing on special requests and being an ok family hotel. Here is your 5 things to earn the 5 stars. I wouldn't say avoid but it's a misleading rating of a 5 star....

The hotel was amazing. The staff are all very friendly, especially a young waitress called Eden. She went out of her way to ensure we were well looked after and was friendly and professional. She is an asset to the Manor.
The room we had was a queen suit which was beautiful. Very clean and tidy, housekeeping are very quick and thorough and the entire Hotel has an eco policy in order to do their bit towards saving the planet.
The grounds are beautiful, stunning woodland surrounds the Manor and our room had a view out over the golf course.

The spa was beautifully clean and the treatments we received were wonderful, Claire in the spa is lovely and exceptionally good at her job.
The breakfast selection was beyond wonderful. A chef is there every morning to cook omlettes and eggs to order in front of you, the hot food selection is fresh and very tastey. The continental selection is brilliant. Everything from fruits and cereals to salmon, cheese and crackers.
It would be worth staying in this manor house just once for the 5* experience.

Beautiful setting with delightful, well kept grounds. However, the hotel is let down by the Staff in the Oakes Grill....the first waitress that 'greeted' us was abrupt, brusque and rude, the second waiter was not familiar with the menu, he didn't know that there was a set lunch menu, when asked about one of the dishes, he had no knowledge. The second waiter brought the Dessert Menu before we had even had our main Course, which arrived 1 hour 20 minutes after we had placed the order. At the end of our meal, there was not one member of Staff in the restaurant, , so we were unable to order a coffee or another drink. We had to go into the hotel to find someone to give us a bill....we could so easily have walked out without paying. I will never ever eat there again , due to appalling lack of service.
