This place is so nice..its amazzing
Love it...staff are brill....you have to go.
Thats all lm saying....
We stayed two days as part of the company event. Good was great here. It's big park is good for jogging.. especially in summer it's pretty good.
Nice place with lots of 'Ye Olde World Charm' but rather too full of its own self-Importance. The food and drinks are far too expensive in my opinion. Will not be rushing back.
Amazing location , nice clean and cozy room and the spa perfect place to relax. We dine at the Cast Iron Grill and we had good and tasty food. We had the pleasure to be served by Anita . She deal with our small problem with professionalism . We thank you Anita !
People are extremely friendly.
A wonderful place to relax.
Beautiful setting and location. The Manor was lovely with lots of interesting rooms full of history. The spa was great and really relaxing. The staff were all friendly and helpful. The room was spacious and beds are so comfortable. I would definitely visit again.
Visited Hanbury Manor for my sister in laws 30th birthday. We all had wonderful treatments and a lovely relaxed weekend. Only problem was the hair dryer did not work in room and we had to ask for slippers and robes. I would however visit again.
This review is for an old English manor that was converted to a hotel. It is a bit difficult to review because I have to use two different criteria that sometimes oppose each other.
First off, in the context of nostalgia:
It is picturesque and beautifully located on 200 acres. There is a fantastic golf course that is a main appeal. I do not golf but I appreciate what it offers in that regard to those who do. I hear from my golfing buddies that the course is excellent. You can walk a path to the city of Ware nearby as well. The food at the hotel is fantastic! Loved everything I got. Breakfast buffet is wonderful! I suggest the fish and chips, the club sandwich and the toffee pudding. They were incredible!
Now in the context of other modern hotels:
The hotel IS NOT air conditioned but the weather was beautiful for sleeping at night. However...you have to have your windows open if you want airflow. Each room has a small table fan to help in that. The common areas are nice and modern and have good WiFi for free BUT the rooms do not. There is WiFi in your room you can pay for or get for free if you are a Gold member BUT it is rather poor.
My room was in rather poor upkeep. The electric sockets were sparse and one had a loose connection. The outer door handle stuck down and had to be manually righted most times. There were a few insects in the room from the open windows with no screens, but they were not a nuisance. The tea kettle was low quality and would not shut off automatically when boiling, plus it was highly calcified. The refrigerator was warmer than it needed to be. The carpet was a bit dirty. I think it was due to age because I do believe they ran the vacuum daily, however. The room did not have washcloths so when I told the young lady at the front the next morning, she seemed a bit put out that I did not say something the night before and seemed to scold me. I give her the benefit of the doubt however and do leave it open that it may have been my perception. However - this place should have 10 stars for the most incredible water pressure I have ever seen!!!
So I give it 3 stars. I feel it fair because it should be 4 stars for nostalgia and the food but only 1 or 2 stars when compared against other places in the modern context.
I hope it helps you in your decision and I definitely think it is worth a trip if you are in the area.
Very nice resort. Very green, quiete, comfortable and relaxing. Highly recommend a visit for a short or even longer vocations.
Went here for a wedding reception. Such a beautiful place with friendly staff. Would definitely stay the night and would recommend for any party.
Very poor waiting 2.30 hours for our room to be ready
Had our summer party for our company - food and service was good, the BBQ dinner was very tasty
Beautiful surroundings and conference facilities were great. Food was average and although the rooms were large and spacious it felt like the walls were pretty thin. I could hear the conversations in the next room. Overall it s a lovely place but just fell short in a few areas.
Lovely hotel and really nice and helpful staff! This place is huge and the spa is great! I will say the rooms could do with a facelift they are a little dated however they where clean
1 star for the great staff
1 star for the amazing architecture
Had a family lunch in the grill restaurant. Excellent carvery. The staff were very attentive and helpful. We will be back.
Beautiful surrounds, great staff, comfortable beds, it is all you want when booking a relaxing week away.
Just one beautiful manor house only one can dream of owning just beautiful
A truly fantastic experience. Will be staying here again!
Looks so much better than pictures. I had an amazing facial , lovely food . Beautiful venue for a wedding . Huge bedrooms. Would recommend this venue
Lovely place, very good service and great food. The rooms are a little dated now, it could do with a little revamp.
Special afternoon tea. Great service. Lovely comfortable venue.
Great place to stay outside London! Some rooms have been renovated recently others are a bit outdated, though, they have a nice character.
Excellent hotel - friendly staff and great facilities...the swimming pool and spa are fantastic. Nice burgers - pricey drinks though!
Had a fabulous afternoon tea there in gorgeous but cosy surroundings. Very friendly and helpful staff. Loved it !
Beautiful surroundings, outstanding hotel with lovely staff
There is a pool sauna steam room. Very warm water. Nice service
The suite we stayed in was not properly prepared, once informed it was quickly dealt with.
Meals were delicious and staff were friendly.
I ll give this place 5star as I take customers to staying and I enjoy driving inside the compound.
When I walked into this place it felt like Batman's house Wayne Manor beautiful I absolutely love it here. I had the roast dinner which was good but I also would like to come back for afternoon tea
Great golf course. Rooms are tired, dated and need of repair
Lovely looking hotel but not a great experience. We called the night before to have an early check in but was told that due to the hotel being booked fully it was unlikely. So we ended up arriving 1 hour later then expected. To find out that our room. Kings suite was still not ready! And then was told we would have to wait 40 more miniuts to get in. Apparently because we was the last to arrive we missed out the clean rooms?????. Words from Reception.
Once in th room, toilet seat broken and other decorating issues. I understand it is a manor but it should be kept well.
On a good note the staff were helpful and dinner was 7/10.
Don t think I will stay again unless we have to for a wedding etc.
Came to Hanbury Manor for tea. The atmosphere was lovely. But orders were taken wrong. The amount paid per person, I would rather go to the ritz where you pay similar and they are far more attentive.
Food fantastic, staff great. Not happy about paying London prices in Hertfordshire. Rooms in the main building are very tired and dated.
Always a pleasure. Couples or child friendly spa is great and gym is too. Highly reccomend!
Do not expect food at this place if you are a guest after 11pm. Its clean and has nice surroundings.
Wonderful place with historic character together with amazing spa, restaurant and grounds
Nice scenery, good service, but no air conditioning so very hot in the summer
I had a buy a gift for me and my partners anniversary for a spa day .
I must say the worse spa day ever I have been to other spas and this was no more then a small dark glorified leasure centre .no bed to lay on as only about 6 as yr in roabes workman and fully clothed people walking about fully dressed .
Wanting a different time for treatments as was told early time on email thay wouldn't move them .
On complaining was only offered another day of hell.
If you buy a gift voucher on line no refund can be given or a different activity .
Nothing was nice pool looked dirty and I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone who thinks there going to a relaxing spa .
It's awful and no one wants to help you have a good experience even second time around .
DON'T GO !!
A special occasion for a 90 th birthday, an afternoon tea. SPLENDID.
Lovely afternoon at the spa
Follow by a great dinner
Lovely staff
Fantastic atmosphere very attentive and accommodating staff plus good selection of food.
Lovely place would highly recommended for a Spa day
Absolutely gorgeous. Golf and other leasure facilities available
Had a fantastic spa weekend for my Birthday, staff were very friendly and very helpful. Would recommend most definitely
Beautiful building, lovely food and excellent service!
Amazing hotel, staff so friendly and helpful, can not wait to stay again
Beautifull hotel great rooms helpfull staff and the surrounding grouds beautiful
Wonderful hotel and manor grounds. Cast Iron Grill is a great steak, staff, and atmosphere. Picture perfect sunrises over the golf course from the breakfast table. Always a must stay when nearby!
We had to rearrange our wedding venue in light of Covid-19 and the staff at Hanbury Manor were fantastic. I stayed in the Hanbury Suite over the wedding weekend and it was the perfect place to get ready with the bridesmaids. Plenty of space, very clean and beautiful views of the golf course. It was also very quiet which was perfect.
Breakfast and the evening meal were lovely. A lot of effort was put in by all staff to respect the Covid-19 guidelines without it overwhelming the stay.
The reception staff were incredibly helpful with all the logistics for the wedding and helping us take a lot of stuff from a number of cars in preparation for the reception. Dana was fantastic on the wedding day, making sure everything ran smoothly and being so respectful of the day, she was brilliant. As were Sarah and Emily, the wedding coordinators who helped in the build up and on the day.
It is truly a beautiful place to stay, the grounds are immaculate and we will be back very soon!
Friendly staff..comfortable rooms. Food ok but expensive for quality.
Nice function rooms with good afternoon tea. Service ok. Room quite nice but a very long way to walk from car park to reception to room with lots of baby baggage! Breakfast - depends what you want. Continental quite good but eggs Benedict disappointing! If you're going to offer it, employ someone who can cook eggs! Ham was very dry as well.
Amazing hotel in the middle of the countryside. Beautiful spacious rooms, picturesque views
A little disappointing a lots of things not quite right
Visited for a wedding I was attending. The grounds are beautiful and well landscaped. The staff are super friendly and helpful.
Beautiful venue, could do with some TLC especially in the rooms the call suites.
Avoid.
The hotel cancelled my reservation half way through the actual morning of the arrival day, blaming computer problems. And the manager concerned did it via email - not even the courtesy of a phone call. Unbelievable. Not a clue how to treat the customer.
Lovely hotel, need to make use of facilities to justify the price though
We are staying for a Christmas break . I am really injoying my stay because the spa is great the staff are brilliant but the only problem i have is the buffet because the meat can be very cold.
Worst experience ever of a 5 star hotel. I believe he got the 5 stars for having an old rooms, unfriendly staff, very unhelpful, missing on special requests and being an ok family hotel. Here is your 5 things to earn the 5 stars. I wouldn't say avoid but it's a misleading rating of a 5 star....
Afternoon tea was excellent. Service and waitresses were also excellent.
Attended a photography course with Property Photography Academy and was impressed by this stunning location. Staff were very professional and friendly and will definitely revisit
Lovely scenary, great appearance to the hotel, staff are very professional.
Best UK hotel. Hope the changes don't affect it. Bring back the Oaks
I moved to london three months ago and the first invite i was given was to come here for the spa! The afternoon tea and facilities was amazing! Everyone is so nice and welcoming !
Thank you much !
The hotel was amazing. The staff are all very friendly, especially a young waitress called Eden. She went out of her way to ensure we were well looked after and was friendly and professional. She is an asset to the Manor.
The room we had was a queen suit which was beautiful. Very clean and tidy, housekeeping are very quick and thorough and the entire Hotel has an eco policy in order to do their bit towards saving the planet.
The grounds are beautiful, stunning woodland surrounds the Manor and our room had a view out over the golf course.
The spa was beautifully clean and the treatments we received were wonderful, Claire in the spa is lovely and exceptionally good at her job.
The breakfast selection was beyond wonderful. A chef is there every morning to cook omlettes and eggs to order in front of you, the hot food selection is fresh and very tastey. The continental selection is brilliant. Everything from fruits and cereals to salmon, cheese and crackers.
It would be worth staying in this manor house just once for the 5* experience.
Really good customer service and very safe in and around hotel.
Reduced menu for dinner but food was still very good
What a hotel! Everything was fantastic. Spa was heaven. Must return soon
Don't bother with the afternoon tea. Stale sandwiches which had clearly been in fridge all day. Very overpriced.
Beautiful setting with delightful, well kept grounds. However, the hotel is let down by the Staff in the Oakes Grill....the first waitress that 'greeted' us was abrupt, brusque and rude, the second waiter was not familiar with the menu, he didn't know that there was a set lunch menu, when asked about one of the dishes, he had no knowledge. The second waiter brought the Dessert Menu before we had even had our main Course, which arrived 1 hour 20 minutes after we had placed the order. At the end of our meal, there was not one member of Staff in the restaurant, , so we were unable to order a coffee or another drink. We had to go into the hotel to find someone to give us a bill....we could so easily have walked out without paying. I will never ever eat there again , due to appalling lack of service.
Great hotel, great service and very friendly staff. Set on beautiful grounds with a championship golf course. Spa facilities are worth checking out along with the couple of bars available.
