Hampton Inn Historic District- Downtown Columbia, SC Review

One of my faves! I just love, love, love this hotel! The location is AWESOME!

Close to restaurants and other attractions downtown

Hard to find the entrance and parking. Hotel was very nice and clean.

Next best place to home. Clean, friendly, walking distance to anything you need.

Extremely nice and comfortable. Well decorated and updated. Walls/door were thin and breakfast was not good.

Great location in downtown, close to food. Clean room, typical free breakfast buffet, and friendly staff. Had a small issue with the room, but management was very responsive. Will book here again soon.

No "constant fan" feature on a loud AC system. That is sleep torture with the constant on and off. Thanks Hampton Inn.

Room was nice and the hotel is in a great location, but the hotel doesn't offer a shuttle service like the Courtyard or the Marriott. It was probably an off night, but the fire alarm went off twice during our stay. Those alarms didn't help me get a good night's rest.

Hotel is great location is great... front desk staff needs better training... as a comedian for the last 25 years I stay in hotels 150 nights or more every year... young man at the desk was great he just needs more training... When I called the hotel the next day to get a answer why my card was charged 3 times for incidental... The front office manager answer was "I don't know"... I asked her... You don't want to find out what caused the error so you can correct it... Her answer was your get your money back on your card... that's when I realized it wasn't a young gentleman fault the person in charge of him is incompetent

We loved this hotel. We are planning our vacation trip to Florida this week to include another stay. The location is just great. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. You won't be disappointed.

Don t stay here unless you plan on walking and enjoy noise in the middle of the night. $14 for parking is ridiculous, worse than the airport. I ve nevee heard of hotels that charge their patrons to stay in their lot. What a money grab.

If you happen to be unfortunate enough to stay on the street side, prepare for no sound proofing as you hear every car that decides to rev their engine along the street.

Hotel was clean as a plus however. But I still wouldn t recommend and wouldn t stay here again.

So i was with my family in room 420 this weekend. Sister was touring the local university and I was joining them on the trip. They got the two main beds in the room and i would get an auxiliary bed as provided by the hotel, or so i thought. Unfortunately, They were out of auxiliary beds, So i ended up sleeping on the floor. That's why I'm giving them only two stars, due to their lack of resources on both nights.

They are all about customer satisfaction. Kudos to Jessica. We had went to a concert that we didn't know didn't allow purses. She put actag on it, secured it away for us. Saved us time and money. Would highly recommend

So the hotel itself is nice, parking is a nightmare. It is in a great location but don't expect a bargain price. You will pay for the location. My vehicle was blocked in and it took forever to get the car blocking me moved. Staff was nice and the breakfast was good.

Wonderful. Always a joy to stay here. Highly recommend.

We liked hanging out by the pool for a bachelorette party! It was nice being able to park at the hotel and walk to all the places downtown.

I never stayed at the Hampton. I have no idea how the previous review was posted under my gmail. I have no problems with the Hampton Inn. My account may have been compromised when the review was written. I have never stayed at the Hampton downtown and to show a sign of good faith I will rate 5-stars based off what I hear about the hotel.

I found myself needing a place to stay for a free days and found three Hilton to be a wonderful hotel. The room was excellent and the rate very reasonable for the area. It is located right in the heart of Columbia with led by of options within walking distance for eating and relaxing. The people are very friendly both in that staff and the other guests. I would definitely recommend staying here to anyone looking for a great experience...

Fine place to stay. Do have an issue with the 2nd night stay being more. Was quoted $339 per night but somehow they up the 2nd to $429. Have not called them yet.

Excellent service, nice rooms, free breakfast, fair prices. Only complaint is that parking isn't included in the price. That's very easy to add to the room price, but for some reason it's separate.

We had a wonderful room, for a great price in a location close to everything we wanted. Such a nice place to stay. Very friendly staff and really nice accommodations! We will definitely stay here again when we venture back to the Columbia area. So much to see writhing a short walk from their location!

Really nice room as always with Hampton Inn. Great place to stay for a concert at Colonial Life Arena which is within walking distance.

If you are a light sleeper doors closing sound like slamming doors all night. New walk in showers are very nice. Front desk people are friendly. Maid service very noisy (no sleeping in). Clean rooms. Thermostat in my room didnt work so I was hot all night. A.c. very noisy (again for light sleepers).

Great location, and clean rooms. No microwaves though, and parking lot is somewhat small. Continental breakfast and wi-fi make up for it.

Parking can be tough with limited spaces, but they work with the guest to figure out a solution. Everything else was really nice, clean and the staff was friendly and polite.

BUT.... VERY VERY LOUD
When doors shut throughout the day or night, EXTREMELY LOUD AND VERY ANNOYING.
Voices travel gown the halls.
Nice but not a cozy, comfortable place.
Was going to give three stars but reconsidered on two.
Awful tv programming also.

This hotel is basically on USC campus and close to most of the dining and entertainment in the area. Our room and the rest of the hotel were clean and comfortable.

Perfect place for a bar crawl, if a social distanced one

The hotel is in a great location. My first trip to Columbia so wasn't sure if the general area, however, this is close to a ton of places within walking distance. It seems like this place may have had a light remodel recently. The rooms are your typical Hampton. They were clean and big. They can update the bathroom hardware and fixtures (at least in the room I had) but they weren't bad. The breakfast area it's been enough and have the typical range of hot and cold as expected. The staff was very friendly. They always had a smile on their faces and greeted you at every chance they got. The only reason for the 4 stars is that the hotel just needs a little more updating, otherwise it's a great place to stay.

Staff is very friendly and polite. Great location. Some maintenance issues that could be solved by having the maintenance staff wander through the rooms periodically. Might be a fallout from the COVID restrictions and impact on their staffing. In our case the toilette flapper was stuck open. It only took me 30 seconds to fix but I hate to think of how long it was running for.

Came into to town on Saturday March 10, 2018 for th night to enjoy the South Carolina Baseball game. Pulled into the parking-lot and watch three cars pull in ahead of me and take the last tree spaces and not walk into the hotel. They walked across the street to enjoy dinner. I reported them to the front desk and advised them that there wasnt any parkinging left. I was first advised to park in a Handicapp spot that was empty, that i refused to do, then i was told to leave my car in the lot in front of other cars that were parked and it would be ok. Once i checked in and got settled in i went out for dinner and observed the same people that parked for diner leave the parking-lot for free. March 14, I check my credit card and found that I was charged for parking 15$. I had to pay to stay there and then had to pay to park as i watched others park for free. What a rip off.

Great experience. Awesome location. Amazing restaurants within a half mile radius. I don't recommend staying here if you have young children. The hotel is only four floors so you can hear everything that is going on in the lively scene on the streets.

Clean modern rooms, secure private parking lot good staff. They put out breakfast 15 min early to accommodate our early work schedule. Walking distance to dozens of restaurants, brew houses and USC. Nice area for evening walk about.

It's ok. Staff is very friendly. Breakfast is pretty decent. Didn't have a microwave in the room which was inconvenient.

Not bad overall but the last guest's litter was still on the floor of the room.

Room was a nice room with king sized bed. Excellent view of parking lot, always a plus. Parking lot was gated though so extremely secure. Breakfast was actually very good. Just wish they had cream cheese. And staff was friendly & courteous. All in all a great experience. Location in downtown was excellent as well.

The room was nice clean bed was very comfortable, however the toilet ran all night long the sound/noise was very annoying. The parking lot was ridiculous there was no where to park once my husband & I returned for the evening we drove around for about ten minutes to find parking.

Beautiful place to stay in even you have to drive little far for your meetings.

Great location for anyone who has business at the University of South Carolina.

Took money out of my account that they shouldn't have. According to the manager there was a glitch in thr system. It took about 1 week for it to be refunded.

Service was wonderful, as was the morning breakfast. My only problem is how loud the air conditioning unit in the room was, I almost couldn't get to sleep.

Very nice hotel that is within walking distance of just about anything you need. Parking is somewhat cramped, but that is nothing they can help. The room is very nice and up to date.

Great hotel and location. Very clean. Well stocked. Only downside was the front desk clerks, all seemed to not want to be bothered and had an attitude when asked a question.

Staff is rude. My bathroom was not clean. Used towel that smelled, used tissue stuffed back into dispenser, and stains on the bed skirt. The rep at the desk (happens to be the manager) was not accommodating. Only offered apology and points instead of solving the problem. She came to my room to remove the towel, and told me to turn my tv down. Because the tv is on the wall that my neighbors bed was on. I turned it down, but when the heat came on I had to turn it back up. I thought I was at a Hilton property, but if the walls are that thin, this must be a Motel 6. I have pictures but they won't upload.

The rooms are modern and clean, but the bed was really hard. The extras like bottled water in the room was nice. The elevator was pretty scary, but they reported it to maintenance as soon as I called. One side is on a busy street but with great views, the other side faces the parking lot but has great, quiet views if you go high. Housekeeping staff is pretty loud in the morning in the hallway. Awareness of quiet signs on the doors would help us be able to sleep in.

My first trip to Columbia in 20+ years, and the Hampton Inn made it GREAT! The room was simple, but fresh and inviting. The bathroom graciously provided customary toiletries. But what made this hotel unique was the atmosphere. The staff was always friendly and helpful - at any hour. I called late in the evening, looking for a room and the staff was charming. The next morning, the breakfast was a buffet-style, with a nice variety of breakfast items and fresh coffee provided all day. The evening hour brought a "happy hour" of chips/dips and iced drinks. Guests enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere and company. The hotel is situated among some of the most popular restaurants in Columbia, and we tried several of the local fares - none disappointed. A Starbucks directly across the street was icing on cake. This hotel is reasonably priced and well worth the stay.

It is hard to find any fault with this hotel. The staff have been excellent! You deserve 5 stars but you really need to consider a new plumber. My shower is somebody's attempt to please everyone with more levers and accessories than can fit in one bath. Unfortunately this also comes with random water leaks rinsing down everything in range. I most definitely recommend this place and will change my review to 5 stars if the plumbing is better next time I visit!

Ms. Tashay is Wonderful!!! We booked early day for an anniversary getaway, and realized when we got there, we wanted the whirlpool suite, and she did great by searching and searching until she was able to switch our reservation to what we needed. Thanks Tashay!! You're the Best!!!
