Stay away if you aren t a regular. If they put you...

Stay away if you aren t a regular. If they put you in a room that hasn t been renovated, RUN! For more than $1,500 a night, our room was musty, old and severely outdated (if you ever went to summer camp, think about what your 70 s camp bunk would look and smell like today). We were clearly put in an overflow room that is (hopefully) only used during very busy weekends, evidenced, in part, by the fact that the minibar was empty.

The worst part, however, was that the floor in the bedroom had buckled very badly (see picture). In addition to this ridge in the bedroom, there were a few other mounds in the living room, one of which they tried to cover with a carpet. There were loose boards and you could see screws in the floor where they tried to fix others (more pictures).

We complained about these obvious safety hazards and, to their credit, the hotel put us in another room, for one night. The next morning, however, we were told that we had to go back to the original room or leave. They refused to put us in any other room and ultimately gave us a refund for the remainder of our stay (we had paid in advance) and sent us on our way. While we appreciate the refund, we lost out on our beach vacation.

Oh, I forgot about the padlock on the door to the patio (last picture). I assume that s to keep guests from running away when they see the room (although I wouldn't recommend running in the room with all of the speed bumps).

I m sure the hotel will respond to this with their story that a pipe had just burst in the room. Funny, because nothing was wet (and there were no signs of any water damage). I guess those were magic screws that just inserted themselves into the floor as soon as the pipe burst? This didn t just happen. What really happened was that someone forgot to hide the bulge in the bedroom floor by throwing the carpet over it before the guests came in. Oops.

Bottom line, stay away.

I gave one star for the beach location only. I stayed at the the resort this past August. I have stayed many times before in the past and it was a fine experience. This time not so much.

The room was not a newly renovated room as advertised, although I paid full price for newly renovated room. My friends stayed in a different section on the resort and had a nice, newly renovated room and paid the same price. We ask to be switched to a different room, but the only room available was one that you had to drive down the street to get to ... the old Panoramic property. I was paying to stay at Gurney's where everything is in reach, not 10+ minutes away. The room smelled like mold and musty. Part of the head board was old and partially torn off and peeling from being a cheap pvc headboard. The bathroom was not clean for our arrival and outdated and nasty. The entire room was out dated, and way over priced.

We had a drink at the bar on the beach. There were no customers at the bar, although we were being ignored. Finally when we were served, the bartender wasn't very friendly. When I finished my glass of wine, I found a shocking surprise at the bottom. It looked to be green mold or sand that had covered the bottom of the glass. Had I really been served that? Not to mention I drank it? It was disgusting.

We had dinner at Scarpetta. A restaurant that I like and frequent in NYC. This was a different experience. We waited a long time before finally being served. When my entree arrived, the fish was completely rare but I had asked for it to be medium. It wasn't edible. I took a few bits and decided to eat the bread basket for dinner instead. That's what I got for spending over $250. on dinner. The waiter didn't even ask how everything was.

I had the cabana boy put an extra umbrella up for me. I gave him a generous tip. I stepped away for about 20 minutes to find someone put their belongings on my chair and moved my things. It was not pleasant to have a guest aggressively confront me over my chair that I paid for. Perhaps the cabana boy could have given that guest another chair other than mine in the first place. The General Manager, Beata Jarmolinska never got back to me although I had made several attempts to reach her about my stay. Don't waste your precious vacation time at Gurney's. You won t get even close to what you paid for in return. Management is poor.

i want to recognize the staff here. We could not have asked for better service. The time we spent at Gurneys was memorable, comfortable and by far one of the best experiences. The employees can make or break your stay at any hotel. The staff went out of their way to accommodate us! Thank you all so very much! I highly recommend Gurneys!

I am fortunate enough to be able to stay at 4 and 5 star hotels, so I know when Im at one. This one is not. (Four seasons, I would have expected more) I stayed here a few years ago before the current ownership for less than 300 per night (what a deal). Fantastic views and tolerable facility for the price. I assumed with new ownership, and claims of it being upgraded, that it would be better facilities. Its not in any way. Run down lobby area, poor service and a huge disappointment in every way. Thank God the area was beautiful and worth the trip out to the end of the Island, because Gurneys is NOT!!!!!! Anyone giving this dive 5 stars has never been in a 5 star Spa/Hotel. They charged me just short of a 1000.00 per night, what I would gladly pay for a cool place. This is NOT. I left the next day and expressed my concerns to the manager. I never heard another word back from them, even though I was promised by the manager she would. They charged my card for another night, I will be pursing them for this charge as a matter of principle. This place is rotten. Don't waste your time or money.

Been coming here for 4 years. Excellent place for vacation in the summer. Rooms and service have definitely improved and is well worth the stay. Service and concierge are always very attentive to my needs. The food is great, awesome atmosphere. I always have a great time, nothing will disappoint you. The spa and treated salt water pool are very nice and relaxing. I believe its the best resort in Montauk for anyone, especially a family!

Terrible customer service. Food was insanely priced for very little quantity. I ordered a $40 fish entree and ALL that came out was the fish. NO starch NO vegetable. $40 for fish that was caught 50 yards away??? Staff not very accommodating, acted like I was a nuisance. Valet refused to give my aunt her car keys back and resorted to cursing her out. Will never return, even if the unreasonable prices came way down. Expected better

Great location, pricy for a glorified motel, stuffy public rooms, cloying staff. But the view was nice enough I'd return. On-site food was surprisingly fine (expected a lot worse but it turned out totally adequate -- but a long way from special)

This Hotel does not deserve even one star. Nothing in this hotel justifies the amount that they charge for 2 nights. Save your money and enjoy 10x more luxuary for the same amount elsewhere. Hotels like this one and many more should be ashamed of themselves. The prices are outrageous and they take advantage of people not able to fly at the moment. To me this is price gauging but that is my personal opinion.

Beautiful outdoors and the rooms are average. There are a few dining options throughout the day on the resort; however, the selection of food leaves a lot to be desired. Also, and UNFORTUNATELY when we visited the sister property, we met a few staff members who were not so friendly to brown-colored people and some of the guests were of the same notion...Especially on the beach. This did not make for a good time. If your good at ignoring this sort of thing, have at it! It left a lot to be desired. At minimum, there needs to be cultural sensitivity training... But I'm sort of tired of hearing that tune.

Came to Gurney's for the first time after spending over 20yrs summering in Montauk to experience their pop up igloos. Found the resort modern yet warm and inviting. All staff members we encountered were super professional and polite. The igloo was incredible! Very affordable at $25/pp rental fee which is donated to Make a Wish Foundation. Food and drink were available for purchase as well. The resort is positioned on a hillside on the Atlantic side of Montauk which makes for incredible ocean views whereever you are on the property. Was so delighted, I'd like to book a long weekend stay when the weather is better for the family.

I wasn't impressed with the resort itself at all and actually quite the letdown. They sold my boyfriend a spa package without having actual spa services available. We wanted to do body wrap treatments. They sold the package but didn't assist in scheduling treatments. The spa wasn't answering to schedule treatments and when we checked in on a Friday all we had available to schedule were two half hour massages available Sunday at 4pm when our checkout was for 11am. When we requested we no longer wanted the spa package they simply accredited us $200 and didn't explain at all what we were being charged for. We somehow got charged $1,300 for our two night stay and we have no idea why. The pool itself could be a little warmer; it is March and could use a good cleaning brown stains near stairs to enter pool and just overall lack of cleanliness. The dinning inside resort was decent. We did make reservations for brunch at 11:30am and when arrived were told there was no brunch just lunch which we weren't too upset with but wouldn't have skipped breakfast if we knew it were only lunch.

We got a day pass for the spa during our new year...

We got a day pass for the spa during our new years vacation to the Hamptons. It cost 80 for two, for which we expected to enjoy the pool and other amenities on offer. Instead the pool was over crowded and it was hard to swim laps because one end is only 3 feet deep! It was also very cold both in the water as well as the air in the pool room. There were nice chairs overlooking the ocean, but it was far too cold to sit in them and enjoy the view. We left the pool after about an hour. As we went as a couple we were sad to find out that all the steam rooms etc are in the gender specific bathrooms and you can t even sit in a hot tub together. On their website they say all these amazing things about the sauna etc, but its just a regular sauna and steam room that you would find in any club. The bathrooms were over crowded and the showers very cramped. The staff was unfriendly. It was a total disappointment. I would never go back.

My experience at gurney s started out great, but I wasn t pleased with how it ended. Spa services and facilities were great, along with the food. But when we were leaving the valet company could not find out car for 15 minutes. Finally when they found it the valet told us that the key fab was dead and that he couldn t get In the car. He was than NO help to me and my family and left us to fend for ourselves in the dark. After hours of trying to jump the car (with help from a very friendly local) we than came to the conclusion that the valet guy left the car on from the beginning! It was all their fault that we had to wait and fend for ourselves for 3 hours on their property and did not care to help in anyway. We left very disappointed and not so sure if we will return

This place is only getting 2 stars for its location and decor. Other than that the staff is rude. They didn t take us seriously, maybe because we were younger than most of the crowd, still unacceptable. The impossible burger was dry as cardboard. I asked for chipotle sauce since it was so dry and the waiter brought it out once we were done eating. Doesn t seem like they enjoy catering to people who are just here to eat and not filthy rich. Extremely disappointing customer service. Train your staff better since you have the funds to do so. Common etiquette is an acquired behavior & doesn t come naturally for any of your staff.

In summary, the staff is incredible, namely Andre Cherrington and Laura Gunderson, and will do anything they can for their guests. Full review below:

On July 4th, which was a very hot day, my friends and I rented a beach cabana. I started to feel very hot and dizzy, so I wanted to walk to the bathroom to get some A/C and cold water to splash on my face. Half way there, I realized that I couldn't make it. As embarrassed as I was, I sat myself down on the wooden floor near the bar. Immediately, Andre Cherrington asked if I was okay. I told him I felt dehydrated and very hot and thought I needed a lifeguard or EMT. Before I knew it, Andre was back with water, sprite, lemonade, and Laura Gunderson with her fellow lifeguard. The lifeguard wrapped me in ice water towels to cool me down while I sipped on my beverages. I told Laura that I have a history of panic attacks and that I thought the dehydration was triggering a panic attack causing my heart to race. Laura talked me through the ordeal and assured me that I was in control and that they were there to help me. Laura and Andre asked what I wanted to do, to which I said sit in A/C. Laura told me we could make that happen and even offered to carry me indoors herself, but my boyfriend was with me and was able to do so instead. Laura still offered to come and to carry my belongings, so she did. While she was doing that and my boyfriend was carrying me, Andre made sure our path was clear and stopped someone from taking a video of me. Once I got inside, I felt much better. I finished my beverages and Andre quickly made sure I had another to keep hydrating. Both Andre and Laura assured me that they'd stay with me as long as I needed. In efforts to thank Andre and Laura for going above and BEYOND, my boyfriend tried to tip them both. They both REFUSED the tip, saying they're just doing their jobs. The care, morals, work ethic, and kindness displayed by Laura and Andre will never be forgotten. Even though I had heat stroke, I'd rate my Gurney's experience 10/10 and would go back not only for the beautiful beach but also to see Laura and Andre.

Laura & Andre, if you're reading this, I thank you wholeheartedly and will never forget the helpfulness abs kindness of you both.

Undeniably the most classic, luxurious, detail-oriented resort in the hamptons. World class spa facility with saltwater pool overlooking the Atlantic makes it an attractive destination all year round. Plus the sophisticated interpretation of classic Northeast coastal dishes - bravo.

One note: make sure to get the oceanfront rooms if you want unobstructed view of the ocean. The ovean view suites have partial view of the parking lot.

This place has under gone a complete renovation and is now a beautiful spot for vacation or dining. It's nothing like the old Gurney's, now it's very chic and stylish. I was very pleasantly surprised when I stopped by for lunch recently. Looking forward to going back soon.

New mgmt, brand new rooms, amazing food. This is the best resort in the hamptons. Period . My family and I spent 3 days here and we didn't want to leave. They have a kids club on the beach and our kids had a great time. Wife went to the spa each day and loved her treatments. The beach is beautiful and we loved the cocktails (get a Moscow mule). Will def be back, especially in the fall (they have a heated seawater indoor pool). ServOnly thing

Visited last Sunday as friends rented a cottage. They tries three times to get the drink right and at $22 for a plastic cup of premixed you would think that at least they could get the alcohol portion right. They did not. Bartenders were too busy flirting with the young ladies hanging at the bar.

We only came here for breakfast, so that is my only perspective. Definitely the nicest property we've seen in Montauk, with beautiful views. I got the huevos rancheros, which I was really disappointed in, they tried to make it a fancier version with some large blue corn tortillas, but they placed em on the bottom and they were just a soggy mess. Flavor was also missing something authentic, was just really average, wouldn't order it again. The view was lovely and our waitress was very pleasant and service was great! Not sure if we would ever stay here, water doesn't look all that great and for the cost and distance, you can be in the Bahamas for the same amount of time and probably even cheaper.

Our one bedroom suite was run down and the carpeting very, very dirty. One has disgusted to walk around there. When we arrived the bins were not emptied and in bed was still a damp cloth? under the covers. One got the impression that it had not been cleaned.

Our points were not received locally.

All in all, for this price very bad and far below expectations !!!

Door did not shut tight, but we didn't realize until I woke up in the morning to the back door wide open with my small kids asleep next to it. We never touched that door.
Ice machine broken. 10 minute walk on unmarked paths to find ice after waiting over an hour for promised ice.
Poor customer service. We were planning on staying 3 nights, we cancelled our reservation.

SPA REVIEW: My sister and I booked a girls night in Montauk with intentions to end our stay with a massage at Gurney's. Let me preface this incredibly negative review with an incredibly positive note regarding The Surf Lodge which was excellent in every way possible. Now on to Gurney's Spa. We pulled in to the large facility in search of the Seawater Spa. We were not greeted for several minutes despite making eye contact with nearby valet staff who were preoccupied with iphones. We had to verbally summon attention in order to have someone move our car. This made us uncomfortable as it was our first time here but we brushed it off and headed inside. Later on in our visit we interacted with the valet staff again greeted with a complete lack of attention and very poor customer service, as we observed this same staff treating other customers quite differently, schmoozing, complementing, carrying luggage, opening doors etc. We are saddened to admit this but we actually considered what the reasons could be as to why we were treated so noticeably different. We felt lost and misguided wandering around multiple front desks and lobbies in search of the spa. No one mentioned that it was actually outside and downstairs. Upon entry the spa lobby reeks of chlorine and chemicals. The staff were preoccupied with personal phone calls to which we overheard as we stood waiting for a greeting or acknowledgement. After being charged a $30 non-hotel guest visitor fee for utilization of the "Spa amenities," we made our way, still disillusioned, down another two flights in to the "Spa Basement." We were greeted by another poor communicator. Her lack of direction or advice left us still confused and wandering.. but alas we had actually arrived in the spa "LOUNGE" and locker room. We had arrived early to enjoy amenities, first up: the pool. SO LOUD. A child dumping ground, if you will. Zero parental presence and loud screaming children splashing and carrying on with cannon balls and the like. The most unrelaxing environment I've ever been in despite a beautiful view. We tried to enjoy ourselves here. Eventually realizing we needed to go contact the front desk. After a frustrating experience with nonexistent cell service, I ultimately needed to approach the desk in person to ask that these children be guided or confronted. All patrons here were visibly upset, uncomfortable, and annoyed. After one final 9 year old screech we left the pool. Back to the spa basement we went. In a very quiet, dim lit back hallway we found the "ROMAN POOL." Despite acoustic ceiling tile in an extremely humid environment- things appeared normal. We were so happy to find peace and quiet. Once settled in, we began to look around. The finishes and noticeable deterioration of this facility were concerning upon second glance. For example: crooked tiling holding stagnant water, warping ceiling tiles, burned surfaces surrounding mechanical vents, and best of all, a burn hole through 1 of the many disgustingly outdated wall sconces. You exit the room to step onto a damp folded bath towel. In a final attempt to find some solace- we found "THE QUIET ROOM." A dark room with two lounge chairs and incense burning. Seemed nice and calming. Once nearing point of relaxation.. A drip drop of water from above fell straight between my eyes? I call to my sister "Can you turn the light on?" ... The entire acoustic tile ceiling is COVERED in leaking drip drops.... The condensation was so strong the entire ceiling was soaking wet. This was the final straw. The only pleasant experience was the ease in which we got our monies fully refunded. We could not imagine staying a moment longer for the massage. For the reputation this place has - it was the worst spa I have ever been in. Unsanitary, disgusting, in need of CLOSURE and FULL RENOVATION. Borderline dept. of health territory.

Gurney's Montauk resort is a place I will definitely visit again. While it is a bit of a drive, it is well worth it. The views in the rooms are incredible. I booked an ocean view front room and having that view of the beach and ocean was great. The concierge or attendant, Rachel, was also accommodating and provided something extra when we had told her we were on our honeymoon. The spa was also great. Danielle and luz were professional and I feel as relaxed as possible. Although the rooms and spa are pricey, this was something we don't do often do we were glad to pay the price and experience what they had to offer.

Nice place to stay for a fall getaway. We were originally booked in a ocean view room but upgraded quickly after realizing the ocean view also came with a parking lot view. That upgrade cost an extra $100+/night but well worth it. Our new room had direct ocean views and we could hear the waves all night long.
