Nice construction, except that the dogs of certain trades do not have a kennel, not a lot of water. But otherwise it's fine
It is worth to see with what challenges they have build a castle in the medivial.
A work of crazy constuire a castle as the Middle Ages to see absolutely I loved
Awesome. My great regret is to have waited so long before going there.
Interesting cultural outing with different workshops that explains the medieval construction technique. Exit that is expensive between entry to 14 euros per adult and 11 euros per child + meal inside it is expensive so predict peak is better.
The castle is taking shape and the craftsmen are very friendly, they take the time to explain the various medieval techniques to visitors.
To see how a castle was built in the Middle Ages is very impressive for us! Since you can get right up to the workplaces and the craftsmen working there are very friendly and knowledgeable you can take a good look at everything. A small, newly built water mill can be visited. Everything authentically built and fully functional. We all liked it so much that the 1300 kilometers journey was really worth it. There are also a few craft stalls that do not belong directly to the castle. More craft stalls would make the illusion better. In the souvenir shop, there are very few nice things to buy. Also, all not belonging to the castle buildings are very nice, but the supply of food and drinks rather reminiscent of a motorway service area. The alchemist who performs a very good and funny program is very worth seeing and I have not seen anything comparable here in Germany. The crux of the matter is awesome and we recommend that anyone interested in history drive there once!
Super interesting site to visit and the staff very attentive with a touch of humor.
Superb castle made of modern man's hand that stays in the medieval context to discover alone or with family
A feat !! Wonderful !! A real educational place Thank you to all the staff for its kindness coupled with a real skill.
Very nice place of entertainment and discovery ... to be absolutely alone or with family!
A 13th century castle under construction with the tools and techniques of the time. Exciting.
A philipian type chateau built in the same way as in the 12th century. With craftsmen who explain their way of working. A must see.
Congratulations to the teams for the realization of this work
Very beautiful and super interesting to visit, but pricey: 15 euros for adults and 12 euros for a child up to 17 years old but definitely worth a visit for those interested in the Middle Ages.
Building a medieval castle, stone by stone, is fascinating. The workers on site do not miss an opportunity to explain what they are doing and how.
A challenge of madness!
-Heart of History (Bachelor of History, Master History - Archeology - evolution of Christianity and religions in the High Middle Ages), my Friend has always been eager to see for herself this unique experimental project and completely crazy :
rebuild a castle from the medieval period with the methods of the 13th century (late 12th - early 14th) Philippian style; while respecting the safety standards - working of our time.
The goal of the game is to improve the knowledge of historians, archaeologists and other specialists in Castellology to better understand / understand the workings.
Having studied Archeology, my Friend finds the principle (to do all the reverse of an Archaeologist) hallucinating and rich in teachings (recreating the missing know-how thanks to the incorporation of the various workers on the site: companions , apprentices ... Or accomplished craftsmen, Masters of work, MH - coming to add a string to their bow).
We moved for a big half-day, be aware that you have to come a full day (for people who really care) to really enjoy it.
-The workers:
Interesting to see the work (even for a novice like me ^ _ ^), this project really helps to better understand the life and organization of the time, logistics and sociology of an era.
-The people on the site are quite available, the various workshops and stages of the castle can take care of.
The guided tour is very good (a specialist at the controls).
The projects evolve, are added to the base castle to tend towards an idea of extended village (water mill, chapel, port, market ...) which could well rise from ground to reinforce the basic idea and constitute a unique approach of its kind.
I had read that for some it was "Disney", we can confirm the opposite:
except be narrow-minded, do not understand the purpose of the animations and other "micro-financing"; it is not an amusement park.
And if these bonuses help to build a city in the medium term, then we will return regularly to follow the evolution (as well as being a builder to participate in this great adventure).
-> If you are looking for rides and a park of the kind it is not here that you have to come.
To build to understand is the motto of this place. These builders use medieval methods, tools and equipment to build this castle. The result is magnificent. Talk with all the workers on the site is very rewarding. I hope to see the final result, .... in 8 years.
Amazing concept, especially when we could (like me) visit it at regular intervals for a long time.
You should have seen it
Middle Ages to touch
Good chance to see how to make medieval period. There is english guide
Yes the site well develop for 3 years but become too touristy because today not enough to have visited guided we were at 14:30
I think internet hurt compared to 10 when we first went
A must see if you are in the area and do not hesitate to make a detour.
Excellent visit! Friendly welcome, smiling volunteers. The castle has made good progress ... for twenty years! And hurry up because in 5 years it will be over! Otherwise for info the toilets and the site are very clean, and there are 3 charging stations for electric vehicles. We had a great day!
Place to discover. Very informative. Commented visit very pleasant. A wonderful day spent guedelon. To redo
Going back in time it feels like it. Discovery workshops and workers always ready to share their know-how.
Superb discovery, enthusiasts who share their know-how.We will return
Really a very good day
This is a truly scenic place to stay. It's good to see craftsmen take their time and explain their passion
Lunch on the spot very reasonable (<10 )
This is worth the 2 hour drive from Paris!
Awesome ! Great visit to do with the family! Young and old alike will feast and rediscover the history of the Middle Ages in a fun and above all concrete way, we believe it!
Mad and wonderful project. Educational workshops, very nice shows. To see imperatively
Superb place..thank you all those people who give their time for such a thing kind of land ... thank you for all the explanations given for each workshop. It's great
Very nice visit very interesting I will come back bravo
Bringing history to live! Building a 13th century castle using 13th century methods. Take the guided tour - it's well worth 3 & you will definitely learn something...
Do not hesitate to go see it. Chateau built with the means of the time. All around, a small village of artisans who explains how it's done.
castle under construction. it will be finished in 2025 and started in 1997. With workshops around the castle and a paid visit
It is a beautiful place
10 of 10
Bcp of very interesting things to see, provide 4-5h of visit!
Very good but visiting at your own pace without a guide is better.
A visit that takes us really far very beautiful site and very interesting
A magnificent place where you can appreciate the work of men to see with children counted a full day from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. to take full advantage of all the workshops
Small black spot lack of staff at the restaurant and snack bar more than 3/4 hours waiting for something to eat or drink
Guedelon, always a real pleasure to see the progress of the work. Always kind and passionate volunteers. Go see him as soon as possible if you are in the area. It's really excellent
Great adventure, I hope to return there in a few years to see the evolution! ..
A superb place in the middle of the forest. Hat the artist
very interesting but beware it is all the same a "building site" with medieval techniques so young children are not a good idea and suitable shoes are necessary (sand pebbles etc. not compatible with sandals) access to people with reduced mobility can be difficult but not infeasible
I introduced my grandson.
I go there every 2 or 3 years since the start of this adventure in 1998.
What a feat that is awesome and unique.
An unforgettable experience despite a biting frenzy !! Too bad the dining rooms are not closed (no windows) and do not offer the opportunity to warm up the meal time. The site is beautiful but to avoid with small children on very cold days. Congratulations to the enthusiasts who work on site and take the time to share their experience.
Do not go there every year but interesting especially with children
Second coming in two years. Always so brilliant. There are more restaurants and better quality. Eating at 11:30 am is an option to consider if you don't want to queue for 30 to 40 minutes.
The idea is great I do not question the wonderful work that is done, but ultimately we do not see much about construction techniques.
Exciting to see work as in the past.
According to the workshops, if there are not too many visitors and if the companion is well disposed, we learn a lot.
It's good for young and old.
If you can go in the calm season, it should be even better.
Very beautiful and all handmade in the old fashioned way, beautiful work and interesting to be able to discuss with the craftsmen. And the possibility of being able to book a picnic in advance is very practical
Very pleasant staff, especially at the reception. Super interesting visit. The castle workers take the time to explain their work and tell part of the story. The history of the mill is very interesting and the touch of humor makes it even more alive. I thought there would be a few more animals: there were a few geese, 2 ponies with 1 donkey, a horse pulling a carriage and other horses in the box (which we cannot approach).
It was really great. Well done.
Extra children and adults loved it. Very nice. Visit explanations animations very nice staff. To redo.
Tourist place but very interesting visit. The construction of a castle live!
Nice performance and great success but too commercial in my opinion
A great site, really very well done and passionate people working to bring the project to fruition, hats off ladies and gentlemen
