A beautiful piece of the past! Also very nice for school children.
A real journey back in time, accompanied by people who are tremendously involved in what they do or rather what they live. To live absolutely.
Beautiful castle / castle under construction according to the method and customs from the Middle Ages. A complete village with, among other things, Smit, carpentry workshop, rope maker and tile and floor workshop.
Stone, wood, cement and rope is extracted at the site. Everything is neatly explained (in French), a Dutch booklet explaining the different crafts you will receive proof of purchase of your access.
Well worth a visit.
Wonderful trip in a distant time, the guided tour was really pationante. We highly recommend.
Super nice to be able to watch all these different trades of the time in action. The castle is super beautiful, still a lot of work to finish it but the finished part is open to the public and very beautiful. The workers are very friendly and take pleasure in explaining the details to you. In addition dogs are accepted and it is pleasant because it is not often in this kind of place. The park is quite large. 2 catering, 1 fast restaurant (sandwich) and 1 other self-service (fried steak). Me personally for 2, at the fast restaurant I paid 26th for 2 sandwiches 2 beers 2 small bottles of water and coffee ... at lunch time they are stormed in high season, I go back at 2.15 p.m. and a lot less people ... (Note that in Guedelon and around 400 meters around, there is no connectivity network, it is a white zone, you will not be reachable. 4 or 5 hours of visit)
This place is amazing! Well worth spending the day here. A whole castle being built from scratch using medieval methods of carpentry, stonemasonry etc. Workshops by traditional weavers, dyers and blacksmiths. A must for anyone who is interested in history.
We would spend hours listening to each craftsman tell the details of his job. It takes at least one afternoon but the day can also easily pass
The staff are very friendly and do not hesitate to answer our questions, it's a great place where you can learn lots of interesting things about building a castle
Very interesting experience and enlightening. Only wish I had more time to enjoy the place
A very informative visit for young and old that we have been doing regularly for 10 years which allows us to see the spectacular evolution of the site. Note a very interesting souvenir shop (many books and educational objects) because so different from those of other tourist sites.
Magnificent site where you learn lots of things! Very interesting to immerse yourself in old building methods!
Awesome day!
Passionate animators, and exciting!
A discovery booklet with riddles for children would be a plus for the family visit!
But it was great!
It is now a money mill and not much action to be seen in Civic time.
it's worth the look wonderful bravo to all the volunteers
Splendid, incredible, explains very well, we would believe, wonderful site
Visited Sept 2016. First time
Spent half a day there as there is so much to see. Makes you understand what skills the craftsmen had and are reviving today. Will return again after 2 years to see progress. Absolutely fascinating.
Very interesting visit. Even if the cold starts to be present the workshops and the demonstrations are realized.
Accessible to everyone
I recommend
I loved it especially considering the evolution of the years before
Very nice construction congratulations to all the workers
The point of restoration: a lot of very good choice
The project is simply exceptional I strongly recommend you to discover this place for yourself
This place really lives up to what is said about it. They actually do everything that is made in a medieval way. Everywhere, from the starting point (information center) to all workshops, are provided with Dutch or English texts. This allows you to give a 'tour' to children yourself. Quite a lot of staff working on the project on a daily basis also speak reasonable English.
It really feels like stepping back in time and it is very special to realize every place you walk that it is all handmade by the people who work there. From the ropes, mills and stones to the roofs, decorations and towers.
As a volunteer you can also participate for one or more days, to learn from the old-fashioned building techniques. This way you become part of this scientific practical research!
Nice but really overpriced for the proposed service, 14 the entrance to see a castle under construction, knowing that the activities in are still paying and I do not talk about the shop with exorbitant prices a machine money I do not not recommend at all.
Too bad the concept is nice, the staff is rather nice even if we feel a little drunk to repeat the same thing constantly.
Expect good shoes because there is walking.
The mill does not work because of drought and there is a lot of people which makes the visit complicated you can not take your time.
New visit after coming 19 years ago.
Of course the castle is "huge" since time :) and my daughter can also enjoy the top of her 4 years.
Great visit, the site has grown well since time and it's still interesting to listen and see!
The addition of restaurants is significant (there was none at the time): their options are plentiful and the prices of sandwiches and salads are very reasonable for the quality.
We are delighted with our visit.
I unfortunately could contemplate the site on the net!
Great place like a temporal rift that transports us to another century where to live history to understand it through their experience which is to build to understand
Beautiful .... We were amazed by the quality of work and especially the personal investment of everyone! We are in another world, out of time: thank you for traveling in the Middle Ages .....
Excellent place where young and old see live the construction of a castle with the means of old. I recommend this place.
The courage of those who make this castle is really identical!
A dream place for Kids and parents who have interests about medieval history.
A place and a unique project in the world. Friendly staff and pedagogue.
We really enjoyed the guided tour, it is a beautiful site
Impressive
a crazy project
A total change of scenery
A titanic work and a progress of works which leave us speechless
We will come back to admire the progress of this extraordinary project
I introduced my grandson.
I go there every 2 or 3 years since the start of this adventure in 1998.
What a feat that is awesome and unique.
Fantastic bravo to you all for this timeless construction with the techniques of the time
And also we have beautiful and enriching explanations.
I can't wait to see the end of the work
I have been going since the beginning of the adventure, and it is a pleasure always renewed! There is always something new to see, always new people with whom to exchange, always to learn and to discover!
An exotic place, back to the Middle Ages. Nice history lesson. A must see when you are in the area.
Great project great location brilliant idea
Go there and be amazed
Absolutely worth seeing
place to see but there is huge progress to be made for the catering because the food is really not great and the tables are not sheltered enough from the wind when it is not hot
Visit to the school during the month of April was perfect, the guided tour the stone-cutting workshop, the blacksmiths ... except the carpenter who was not pleasant with the children. Too bad they were disappointed on their end of the day because of him.
Not up to the presentations made by the media. The visit is bland. It would be nice to integrate animations to better project the visitors in the life of the Middle Ages.
A little too crowded, but the place is a wonderful throwback with exciting and passionate workers
Very interesting and very beautiful !! The people on site make themselves available to answer questions and are all very nice !!! Not to miss !!!
Very exciting and interesting. Definitely go !!
I'm so excited to see how it will continue.
A very interesting visit led by enthusiasts. I had been there 10 years, I will come back to see the castle finished!
The addition of the mill is a very good idea!
Visited on a beautiful afternoon, the place is welcoming and pleasant experience.
Plan may be boots in case of rain on the day of the visit or if it has been raining the days before.
The great interest in my opinion and to question the present artisans who blends a joy to answer your questions and share the passion of their craft. Even if the "current" passes more or less well according to the individuals, people are really unpleasant.
Good experience having come in school group, the work of artisans is exceptional!
Nice experience. A great experience to go back in time.
Superb business. A wonder ! To do with family or on a school trip.
Great ! To do absolutely, age does not matter if you have a child's soul!
4th visit in 20 years and always delighted. What a feat to build such a building in the XX / XXI centuries, see the raw material that is transformed into tools, ropes, tiles, walls, timber, ....., done absulently if you go through this. beautiful region of Bouggogne. Very good for children
It was very good and interesting. My grandchildren 6 and 4 liked it.
Very good it is exceptional as a job to do everything in the old era expensive but good restoration
A unique site, which is really worth seeing.
Here is a package of photos.
A short trip back in time, the guide is super dynamic and interesting.
Impression to see arise at any time Jacqouille the Rogue.
Still interesting to see the trades and discuss with the workers
Interesting but a little transformed into amusement park :(
Superb. Very impressive for the work done and in progress. Must see because very informative.
Too bad for the tavern to queue 3/4 hours. Very poorly organized
Have a nice day with the little kids
Very well documented
