What an incredible idea to build a 12-13th century castle with the means of the time. From quarry to stonemason, from cordiers to carpenters, from blacksmiths to carpenters and roofers, everything is there to concretely understand all the elements necessary for the realization of this crazy project. An incredible visit with the children.

A castle under construction for over 20 years but in a very special way: people build it for 20 years with the techniques of the Middle Ages! Very impressive and I highly recommend it, especially on a guided tour because you learn a lot about construction and history.

Despite the heat, we were able to see how its enthusiasts built this castle with old methods. very successful

Very nice to have been here. Still educational. Nice to eat, expensive but tasty. Plenty of shade at the picnic area. Recommended for children who want to know more about the Middle Ages and adults.

It is really amazing what they are doing here: building a real castle with the resources from the Middle Ages. You should definitely visit here if you are in the area. Also very interesting to do with children.

Great site to visit. You meet passionate people from the Middle Ages whether it is the stonemason the blacksmith the miller the carpenter ... We spent 4 hours and the children and we did not see the time pass.
You can bring your picnic there are tables inside and covered.

Still as good, I visited twice and the progress of the work is impressive! The new workshops (currency forge for example) are very nice and run by passionate people who love to transmit this knowledge!

The food served on site is ok but I look forward to the new service more in the medieval theme in 2018!

Open air museum in which all medieval crafts that are needed for building a medieval castle are displayed. The castle itself that is currently for 2/3 finished is also VERY interesting, especially if you take one of the tours, which are available in several languages (but for some languages only once per day; check their schedule on their website to avoid disappointments). Take your time when you visit here, you can easily spend almost a whole day. Of our visit to burgundy this was one of the highlights.

What a beautiful site and wonderful example of experimental archeology. It's just a shame that little is explained in English. I just didn't take any pictures with my mobile. I can't download them.

The shop is a little expensive but otherwise the visit is really worth it. The guided tour deserves to be more detailed.

A wonderful experience quite magical, I really had a great time. We are making a real comeback in history! The activities on offer (I did not have the opportunity to try) also look interesting.

What a pity that there is no guided tour !! The craftsmen present explain their job to us and are very welcoming. Super show the alchemist !! A real happiness for all! In short, we had a great day with the family despite the rain.

Special attraction, beautiful for children. Busy with school classes but that is not surprising. Easily traceable, also in English. Hospitality moderate (busy).

It is a kind of medieval village with its castle under construction, it is fine because the manufacturing process is seen, from wood, floors, rocks ... All very Medieval and fun. They are missing the brochures in Spanish. The price is 14 adults

The most beautiful and interesting of medieval sites today

As we were on driving holiday in Frances burgundy region, the sight was couple of hours of drive from Dijon so based on reviews made the effort. It was amazing to see this castle being built using only medieval skills and I appreciated the craftsmanship and skill of people who were doing this. This is 25 year project which started in 1998, so still some way to go before finishing. Lost of tourists now various activities such as clay tile making for 5/8 year olds at additional cost but worth it as my little ones enjoyed the activities and also exploring the castle. I wouldn t got out of my way to visit if only nearby or in the area. 3 stars because the food in the cafe such as cakes etc were covered with flies and wasps but this still being served the food areas also attracted insects. UK this would be completely unacceptable and this shows the high standard of hygiene UK food businesses adhere to which is reassuring.

I am very excited about the project. The idea of building a complete castle with the resources of the Middle Ages is very bizarre and I think it's great how it is really implemented there. The workers there are very friendly and happy to answer questions.
In the meantime a lot is standing and I'm curious to see what has changed on my next visit.

Very nice site. Fortified castle under construction. Visit all the building trades and techniques of the 13th century. To do at least once and come back after a few years to see the progress of construction.

Nice castle very beautiful project. Employees on pleasant places. Very few volunteers when we came. The shows are at the top. The thing that disappoints me is that we feel more and more the business side of the site.
I also have doubts about where the materials come from. so saying of a near career. except that behind the toilets one sees a technical area with uniform block stone pallets coming from an industrial quarry I think. Or tools on workshops such as wood chisels that are indeed from the industry.
I think that the creators of the project accelerate the construction to see the end (before dying) ....
For me nothing but using industrial lime for the construction of the walls takes away all the charm of the book. The concept was so good yet ...

All trades are present and available to explain their work. A beautiful day in the middle of the Middle Ages. The castle takes shape, the story is at the rendezvous run it fast!
