A real journey back in time, accompanied by people who are tremendously involved in what they do or rather what they live. To live absolutely.
I will go to this place with my class on 05/05/2017 and I will return on 05/12/2017 3 DAYS with the COLLEGE MARAIS DE VILLIERS
They build a castle! In front of you. With the means of the time. And the security of today. An incredible laboratory. A machine to go back in time. An ultra competent team always ready to give you all the explanations of their respective trades. Must.
Of course there are Masons and carpenters, but who knew you needed baskets and ropes and animals to build a castle. Lots of kids on trips. But well behaved (French)
Excellent experience in immersing yourself in medieval life
Good value for money. ..too bad the quiche salee was cold
A must for medieval enthusiasts! You can see all kinds of jobs live at work. The workers don't just pretend, they build the castle. So mortar is made, stones are hewn, roof shingles and bricks are made and much more!
The whole thing is designed for mass tourism. So there are also cars and the parking lot is very large. However, the visitors are easily distributed on the spacious grounds.
There can only be waiting times for meals. Picnic is allowed and there are plenty of covered tables and benches.
Always pleasant to see such a construction and its evolution over the years.
High quality of speakers
We see all the trades of the Middle Ages. It's very interesting. And the castle under construction is very beautiful. To be continued ..
I just visited the castle on August 19th. Big disappointment, after calling a few days ago to learn that no reservation is necessary we find ourselves in an overcrowded castle where the reception staff is not sufficient to meet the influx of tourist arrivals, many workshops canceled for health reasons. Impossible visit in good conditions of barrier gestures. Avoid at this time.
A rewarding trip down memory lane and very friendly builders / artisans.
Good but lack of welcome in different places and some empty workshops
A good place to take a family walk, bring water, has a place to eat, bathrooms a bit small for the number of people attending the place.
Very nice to see from the moment that we are interested in the Middle Ages and its practices (and not that the construction practices contrary to what we could believe but also the way of life, dressing etc.)
Impressive, beautiful, amazing to say that it is people without the help of modern techniques that would facilitate things that do with trades of yesteryear. Come back 4 years after coming for the first time, seeing the evolution is impressive. A must see !
Place to discover to understand the castle of the time and their construction
Great outing to do with family or couples. The people are outgoing and very friendly
To do with children. Very well organized this visit is very rewarding ..
Hello this site is to see very well laid out informative nice to see again in some years to see the progress of work
Lots of things to discover, it is possible (even recommended) to ask as many questions as your curiosity suggests, the various speakers will be happy to answer you and explain what they are doing.
Allow 3 to 4 hours to go around, and don't forget to take part in the alchemy show in the afternoon.
Coming during the first year of the start of the site, I find that we lose the spirit of departure and the flame that animated the builders.
Friends and hardworking workers, you forgot who finances your salary. Too bad you're already so bitter ...
Well done anyway for all the work done.
Interesting and fun ... it is an exciting place animated by workers and guides who share their love for the place and their work. We enter here in a castle and its environment under construction but also in history and in the heart of an adventure. Favorite for the alchemist show
Family outing. The kids loved it and we all had a great day
Magnificent place to visit. Only downside I was not able to take aerial shots in a drone, all in all logical
Very interesting site to visit. Guided tour recommended. The reception and catering staff, however, have some progress to make.
Super project! We must really take the time to wander and discuss with the "workers" who share their passion ... to see absolutely! Guided tour very interesting ...
Unique site! Open, welcoming, available and smiling workers and staff! The adventure they share with you is exemplary. To visit absolutely! And the kids love it !!!
Almost total authenticity for this medium-aggression site. A living teaching approach: workshops to find the gestures of the time, the workers available for visitors and explanations everywhere. Attention there are people!
Very good moments of knowledge and learning. If I had time I will do a week of volunteering to learn different trades.
Very nice place to walk through the medieval atmosphere. Suitable for young and old!
Hello.
I just saw the documentary at the moment, I'm watching it a second time so much
it fascinates me and be close to visit this site of Artisans and Artists.
Congratulations to the ARTE channel for this wonderful documentary, that pleasure for the eyes and ears thanks
To visit absolutely if the history interests you. Volunteers on site are very available, talk passionately about their area of expertise with great kindness.
We like it, or we don't like it. Yes it is a little expensive, but to live a few minutes, to make a good time is priceless. It may be missing interactive entertainment in period costume who knows ?? It is a place, for my part magical, restful to avoid, however on rainy days and large crowds. I like to go back there to see the evolution of this totally crazy project, a life-size kid's dream. Thank you to all these anonymous people who work on this site, hats off, you can be proud of yourself. well done
Unique! A castle of the 13th century under construction with the techniques of the time, but also a village, a mill, and especially artisans who work in front of you and answer all your questions. The guided tour, at least during the first visit (the site is constantly evolving, we can return regularly!) Is a real plus to understand the project and its realization. There is also something to eat. Not necessarily given, but of good quality and with a lot of bio. Beware the closing day off holiday periods!
Great place. I learned a lot. The people who work there are really passionate
Very beautiful place the castle and its buildings around are really interesting. The construction staff are friendly and answer your questions well. The restaurants are good and for some products in the theme of the place but this is a bit expensive.
Beautiful, the workers take the time to answer questions and share their passions
Truly magnificent. Superb presentation of ancient techniques. Magic setting. The people who work on the various sites gladly share their knowledge with visitors.
What a beautiful place! Immediately in harmony and time! The tours guide are really very informative for all ages. To envisage a minimum on the spot.
Small flat for the souvenir shop where it lacks two small objects to make on the spot low budget because there are in this shop too many books and organic products but it lacks the essentials for a souvenir shop where there are children
Back to the Middle Ages. Playful. Very friendly and attentive staff.
Super nice, the children are busy, the different craftsmen are fascinating. The castle is relatively small but is very interesting
Splendid, magnificent, .... I lack the qualifier to describe this place. The work, the craftsmen, I liked everything.
I will go back as soon as i can
Very rewarding because of the technical explanations of the builders.
Nice idea very nice for the children, but very unkind people who are very aggressive
After 3 visits spaced several years I am always so much under the spell. Evolution is worth the detour.
great visit already done 10 years ago and we see the evolution to be redone in 10 years
Exceptional, the work is beautiful, a project top, to see and review, superb.
Great visit with generous people, involved in what they build.
For lovers of old stones, it is absolutely to see, too bad that the restoration and the memories (usual) are so expensive!
Great visit! Hyper original and interesting. All the workers are passionate and take the time to explain. The restaurant is very good and made with local products (beef bourguignon at the top). Recommended for families but also adults.
The yard is moving forward. According to the guide it remains between 7 and 8 years of constructions. It is always so beautiful, so peaceful, so exciting to visit this place. The years have passed and it has developed further. The restaurant on site is nice but the wait was long (may be due at the time of the year? Staff more consequent in summer?). Merchandising has also developed well. Rates as much. It's scary but finally it's like everywhere else. I come every 5 years for 20 years and it makes me so happy. Thank you.
A must-see place!
To visit absolutely to understand how all these castles have seen the day
A dedicated team who will answer your questions in joy and good humor
Each to his little anecdote.
We ate at the castle certe rates a little high but very good quality
We will come back when the site is finished
Thank you all
Medieval castle under construction for 23 years with the same means as at the time of the Middle Ages. It's exciting!
Very good, but quite expensive if you want to do workshops.
