Incredible place. We went only for the tour and was pleased with our guide and the history of the place.
Incredible place. We went only for the tour and was pleased with our guide and the history of the place.
The catered event and team building on the high ropes were both very good. Always a beautiful time at the Greenbrier
Way over priced monstrosity. Yes there is cool history and quite a bit to do for the middle of nowhere West Virginia. But the prices and obscene service charges and "preservation fees" make everything aburdly expensive. If you have money to burn and want to visit a pretty unique older resort with some one of a kind history and a casino, this is your place.
Overall, I love the Greenbrier. But I simply cannot give it a 5 star review based upon my stay this past week. First, in order to get ice in your room you need to call room service. I called once on Wednesday evening at 1045pm and another time on Thursday at 5pm. Both times they said they were busy with food orders and it would be a while. Well, the first night it was an hour before I had to call back and ask where my ice was. They said they forget it and didn't bother to apologize, just saying they would bring it up now. The second night they said it would take 45 minutes minimum to get it to me. I'm sitting here 20 mins into my wait hoping it eventually arrives. There has to be a better way for someone to easily get ice for their room and not have to wait 45 mins to an hour.
My second issue with them is that the fitness center is an embarrassment to the high standards of the Greenbrier. They need to devote a larger area to the fitness center and bring in better quality equipment The day I was there, World Team Tennis was indoors and closed off half the fitness center. I also asked for some headphones at the desk for using on the treadmill and they looked in every drawer, finally finding a tangled pair that I questioned if they had been cleaned from the previous user. Why don't they just give out inexpensive sealed disposable headphones like other hotel gyms?
On the positive, the staff is very nice and the food in the restaurants is very good. I will be back and will enjoy my future stays, I'm sure. But this time, I'm leaving tomorrow just a little disappointed.
I did not stay overnight but the hotel is very upscale. If I am ever in the area again I will be staying there.
Great place, great service! Go for the gambling and food. Will be back soon
Had lunch at the restaurant by the casino. The food was fantastic! The whole property is very cool.
Neat place with interesting history. Be sure to have a stuffed wallet when trying to come here.
History history
Must go to place
Super service
What a classic place to experience! The grounds are immaculately maintained and staff are almost painfully nice and helpful, to the point of not even being allowed to pour one's own wine. I recommend taking a walk through the grounds and trying the trap shooting for beginners.
Falconry class was awesome. Beautiful birds, lots of history and information.
Also LOVED the glassblowing class!
A one and done place. Doctor's and staff are exceptional. Would recommend this place to anyone.
First time experiencing the resort. Was a beautiful place. Everything looked clean and pristine. Going to have to go back and wonder around more to see the whole place.
the place was nice. I went for Patriots/Texans joint practice. concessions were reasonably priced, and the food was great.
Lots of history, the Bunker Declassified tour is a must, just walking around the hotel feels like a grandiose time machine. The main dining room was amazing, the 4:15 tea time was a highlight for my wife. Plenty of activities, ice skating, casino, pools, golf course (PGA stop), tennis, and lots of history from the summer White House for five us president's to the Cold war history of the bunker that was hidden on the grounds that would have been home to Congress in the event of a nuclear event between 1962 to 1992. The five star is deserved
Went for work and for the history. Glad we did! One of a kind experience. Very clean room..although a little noisy (we could hear the couple next door talking and arguing) but to be expected in a property this old. All the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Lots to see and do, but very pricey. Enjoyed the bunker tour, but again, not sure it was worth the steep price tag! Absolutely delicious burger at Drapers and try the adult milkshakes!
World-class resort right in the middle of the WV mountains! Great food at all of the resturants. The staff are the best you will find.
Beautiful place that is great to walk around and check out even if you aren't staying there.
Awesome hotel with really amazing restaurants and a historical bomb shelter
Every aspect of this resort is top notch. The staff are incredible, the food is excellent (we dined at Infusion), the facility is gorgeous and steeped in a rich history. I could not have chosen a better place to celebrate our 35th wedding anniversary. We will definitely be back to enjoy a longer stay in the near future and to experience more of the amenities this resort has to offer.
The place is beautiful BUT the dress code isn t a real thing. No one bothers which was annoying since I went to the hassle to pack for it. Had a wonderful meal and a fun time mostly. Had another small issue that was easily solved, but concierge was unhelpful and never returned repeated phone calls. Would not return based on service.
Customer
Beautiful place, can walk the grounds, and visit the shops inside. Shuttle from parking lot across the street.
The Greenbrier is an elegant mix of US History and modern life. Offering professional golf, tennis, spa and other amenities with fine dining, entertainment, and the beautiful scenery of West Virginia my family visits the Greenbrier as often as we can. You don't have to be wealthy to have a great experience at the Greenbrier if you take advantage of their many promotions throughout the year.
For the money, this experience was worse than previous stays. Unfriendly service, mediocre food and unkept grounds.
Would be better if the Saints actually did something that would make this place better than a Country Club. All this place did was make this team into a bunch of wimps.
It is just plain awesome! Period! End of story. Go and enjoy!
Awesome destination! If you have not been, you need to go!
Iconic, Historic, Absolutely beautiful. There is so much to do, you name it and they have it. If you're a golfer like me and play the Old White Course you will walk on the path of the Greatest Golfers in the worlds path. Very humbling to be there and be a part of the history. It is a bit pricey but worth every penny.
Beautiful place to visit and stay at!! Came here for Valentine's 2020 and we were completely spoiled by the excellent service and wonderful meals. It was very special and we enjoyed our time! We will be back for sure.
Amazing Facilities and Beautiful Property.
The staff rivals Disney...
This was a once in a lifetime opportunity to visit my 76 Hotel and see for myself the amount of Love and Effort everyone has put into this Epic journey of History.
The Vault tour was absolutely fantastic.
Nice mall, but needs more stores especially a video game store.
I love everything about the Greenbrier. Best staff in the world.
Went to the greenbrier for ice skating. The staff was pleasant and the rink was great!
The Greenbrier Meadows Golf Course was not worth the high cost to play. The Greenbrier Resort was beautiful, attentive and fantastic. However, the Meadows Golf Course is nothing special.
Not bad but for a resort with the reputation it has it's not maintained to the level. You can tell the owner is cheap and cuts corners. Not really worth $400+ per night. It is a beautiful place though they just need to step it up a little. And don't but the cheapest toilet paper available. I still would recommend it though
Perhaps surprisingly, there are modest cost options for an afternoon at The Greenbrier - a selection of (reasonably) casual restaurants that offer very good food at modest (if slightly elevated) prices. Generally you do not have to be an overnight guest to gain access to the grounds/shops - simply register your vehicle at the gate. Atmosphere is refined. Grounds are worth a stroll. Stop and visit if you have the time. (Makes a great "waiting room" for the train station across the street =).
If you want to be treated royally this is the place to go. Golf, spa, casino and fine dining what more could you want.
Gorgeous property! I can t wait to visit again in the Summer for the pool!
Everything about this resort is beautiful and colorful and bright. The service is world class. We spent 3 days here and enjoyed it so much that we ll definitely be back.
The Greenbrier Resort is just beautiful. The front/valet service is first rate as are the staff in the retail shops. The outdoor adventure shop staff is just amazing. Fitness center was clean & friendly. We had the opportunity to also go to the gun club and had a wonderful experience with Instructor Joe W. Now for the not so good experiences.... The restaurants need some serious training. The food was never consistent. Some plates came out hot and some cold at the same setting. The Draper was very very disorganized. They couldn't get the orders correct and the kitchen staff was sending out cold food. The Forum was the worst. Requested to switch type of spaghetti for an entree and a request for garlic bread ... both denied. Two of the dishes were swimming in a water garlic butter pool. It was not good at all. Rest of the table also complained about their food. The only complaint about the hotel itself was all four of the service elevators were broken. Since there are only two for the wing we stayed in (Draper Suites), we were constantly having to either wait or tightly share the elevator space with carts. This should not happen at a 5 Star hotel.
My family loves the atmosphere and charm of this historic hotel. We try to come every year for rest and relaxation. The interior is as elegant as you will see with the Dorthy Draper Interior Designs. Very impressive. Also, the staff is as nice as can be. Gov Justice has continued and made great improvement to keep up the traditions!
The value is as terrible as the wallpaper. The resort is only slightly better than the man that owns it. Jim Injustice, why don t you pay Sherman Williams the money for the paint you owe them and try to eat a cellary stick every once and a while!
Fabulous, so much to do! Relaxing and very special place!
Fantastic place. Truly a magnificent resort that has an unbelievably rich history and a ton of things to do.
Beautiful Resort with history. Been coming here since I was a child as my father was from WVa. Try to come around Christmas as it will be beautifully decorated. Perfect suites. Beautiful grounds. Do the underground bunker tour. Amazing!
It's dated. The rooms don't have basic items like a microwave for left over, but food is ridiculous It's like the place wants to be an all inclusive resort, but everything I've tried has been so disappointing I don't want to try anything else. Staff is fabulous, friendly, and helpful.
Beautiful but dated. Very friendly, helpful people. Computer systems were down which caused confusion. Parking is awful.
The Greenbrier has been in our lives for 50 years. We look for many more.
Mice infested and the Company won t do anything about it!!smh
.Beautiful place, excellent staff, very good food. OK, it is going to be on the expensive side but I have been at lesser, still nice, resorts that are more expensive
Attended for a professional event, and the resort was beautiful. Conference rooms were roomy, and the staff was polite.
Well we went to the concert series this week. Had a good time but it could've been a great time. Very disappointed that we got wet couldnt take in our umbrellas, but yet ppl had chairs with roofs on them. Drinks were terribly pricey and on that note I don't drink they apparently everyone who decided to sit around us does and they continued all nite. Nothing like having strangers around you puking, dancing oddly, making out, slinging beer on you, stepping and falling on you cause they are drunk. and last night some dude behind us actually peed on my child. the security ppl suck they said they couldn't leave their post. I'm all for a good time but honestly the drinking is a bit much. Beer shouldn't be allowed at concerts cause it messes up alot for others. This was my first and most likely my last time. I shouldn't have to pay good money, move a few times to get away from ppl and still be bothered. get there early get great seats then have drunks come squeeze their way in front on us and stand there the whole time, dancing, hooping and hollering. Loved the singing but that's it. It should've been great but instead it was just good. If ppl need beer to have a good time, they aren't really having a good time cause they are puking, passing out, falling down and most likely won't remember the concert the next day. Or you guys should have drinking and no drinking section. Oh and ppl were smoking and blowing smoke all around us last night too and some ppl were even smoking weed. How gross.
Walk around Valley View Trail is a must. Impressive local gift shops and well maintained. The food at Sam Sneads was good but the service was not so.
The rooms could stand an update. The rest of the hotel is lovely though. I really enjoyed taking a run on the grounds and visiting the church for quiet solo prayer. I had a great massage at the spa. The dinner at Prime 44 was delicious. The breakfast buffet in the main dining hall was delicious as well. I got to swim in the Vintage indoor pool that reminded me of a 1950s synchronized swimming movie. The casino was very full and bustling. Golf definitely looks like the thing to do there.
Great views, excellent service, huge estate hidden in the mountains with an excellent casino.
Pretty, but a little outdated and needs some remodeling.
Truly in a league of its own. Between the accommodations, the activities, and the grounds, there aren't many places like this.
Beautiful place to stay especially at Christmas, great restaurants, very nice rooms. Make sure you do a bunker tour.
Step back in time yet enjoy modern amenities! Cool little shops great history and wonderful array of food choices as well as activities! Casino is small but fun and the spa is fantastic!
Attended one-hour Falconry Academy at the Greenbrier. Excellent and unique experience. Highly recommended for teens on up.
We should have listened to our friends that said it was not that great and went somewhere else for our anniversary. Poor experience ! Arrived after 7 wanted to have dinner in one of the restaurant's that was supposed to be too rated asked if they had room for us they said we can put you at the bar because we didn't have a reservation we walked in there were only like 3 tables with people at them they still sat us at the bar with no room they finally came over and said we have a table after having a language barrier just to get tea, finally got our food was not sure if taste or smell was worse i ate my husband's side rice and they didn't take my plate off bill though didn't ear it and they took it away they took off 15% wow! Needs major updating in halls especially looks like dogs chewed wood that they just painted over and over. Casino staff not friendly sat to play a game drink lady came over asked people beside us want they wanted and snubbed us and walked away we had to call her back she didn't know what a fuzzy naval or midori sour was came back way later and asked again what we ordered she forgot and finally brought is drinks made wrong and didn't even bring the people next to us ahe took order first their drinks! All around not happy ugh! Talked to the manager at check out he seemed like he had know how idea how to handle anything even said well what do you want me to do?? Omg! Smh!! Well for starters I don't want 15% off my dinner I didn't eat and they took away! We were warned by our friends should have listened !
It was nice. At first I thought, wow this place is really outdated. But soon the decor grew on me. The beds are on the firmer side but the shower is amazing. Beware the hidden fees. Historical fees add about $80 or more on to your bill plus taxes and other fees ( Which no one tells you about before hand) We got a government rate of $149 a night which ended up being $278 with all the hidden fees. I would definitely go back though. It has a certain charm.
A true time travel awaits as you drive up the illustrious drive at the Greenbrier. With it s pristine landscaping, five star bell service, and grandiose entry, you are sure to be shocked and awed with all that lies within this resort.
Dress code: Being from the Midwest and having never heard of the Greenbrier, I was slightly caught off guard at the seriousness of the dress code. Come prepared ladies, with your resort best: dresses, heels, and pearls. Reserve your Lululemon s for strictly workouts, as they were intended. Gentlemen, treat each day as if it is a golf day, and at night, Sunday s best. I sincerely appreciated the dress code, as I far too often feel we drifted too far from proper decorum in public.
Amenities: Because COVID is still limiting certain activities across the country, I was pleasantly surprised at the Greenbrier s extensive list of amenities and activities given the external climate. My facial at the spa was absolutely wonderful, and the service was on time, and professional.
Wedding: We attended a family wedding at the main dining room, it was sort of a salmon pink color. When I filtered the photos into black and white, you truly couldn t tell if the image was from 1940, or 2020. I was thrilled the food exceeded my expectations for a 90+ person wedding, and the nine piece band to finish the night left our feet swollen and hearts full.
Overall I would highly recommend experiencing the Greenbrier at least once in your life to see all the preserved history throughout this 11,000 acre resort. The only reason I personally won t be returning, is due to the highfalutin nature of this resort. While it targets a very specific segment of individuals and families, I don t feel I m their target audience. I was also disappointed the Greenbrier s 200+ year history didn t highlight a more diverse set of events to have occurred on its grounds.
As I said before, I would absolutely make a trip to this amazing resort, but be more prepared than I was with your dress code, and your expectations of representation.
Great place. Highly recommend taking advantage of the daily coffee before 9am in the lobby and the tea and biscuits evenings around 4:30pm. Great time to relax in the lobby, enjoy a drink, and watch people.
