Nice location that is just across Pike place market. Friendly staffs. I like the bathrooms that are pretty big. They also provide daily tour to Pike place and downtown. They host events almost everyday.

This was an excellent hostel experience for a first-timer! I had to travel to Seattle for business and all of the available lodging was very far from my appointments - but I wanted to stay on foot and travel via light rail. When I searched near the address of my appointments, I found this gem and I couldn't be happier!

Everything was clean, the staff were friendly, there were lots of bathrooms with showers that were individual, and at the time I stayed towels were $1 and locks $5. The bunk in a four-person dorm was only $40 a night which allowed for me to splurge a little on food. I was able to get there via public transportation at midnight on Sunday as the location is so central.

They will hold on to your bag for free on the day that you check out as long as you retrieve it by 6:00 am the following day. All in all this was an excellent experience and I look forward to the next time I get to stay there!

I stayed at hostel on Sept 2013. It was very nice. They were across street from Pike Place Market. I like reading lights by bunk there. Breakfast was good there. I would like to come back there again.

I have no complaints. It's a hostel you can't expect it to be a 5star hotel. They let you know what time you should be down for breakfast, they also let you know what time to check out so there is no complications. Service was good/friendly and helpful with my luggage. I do recommend coming down for breakfast and interact, make new friends, meet new people you won't regret it. My roommates were pretty chill, the bathrooms were clean. I mean I really have no complaints. Enjoy your stay. Also, the market place is like right there and you can walk around so much to see and eat. Bars were at walking distance. I hope you found this helpful.

This is a hostel. It's a long way from high class. But I made a reservation from their website and it worked great. In fact, I accidentally made a reservation for the wrong night and when I showed up a night early, they rolled with it. They have free dinners on certain days of the week. Breakfast is a combo of making your own eggs and pancakes along with some fresh fruit and toast and the like. You can walk out the front door and into the market and they even had a pub crawl organized for Sunday night. I had a great time and met some great people. It was clean enough and well-run.

the green tortoise hostel was truly an incredible experience. located directly across the street from pike's market, you are given everything you need to live and sleep comfortably during yr stay. walking distance to food and target and pubs and bus and train lines. the rooms came with blankets and pillows and towels if you need them with privacy curtains and openable windows. we had ppl come in and out during our stay in the shared co-ed and it was super chill. everyone was respectful and mindful of each other, without being intrusive. the hostel offers many social events in its common rooms and various cheap tours of the city and market if thats yr thing. breakfast bar in the mornings and locker drawers in your room. not to mention, the building is so cute!! this was my first american hostel experience and i am so glad it was with the green tortoise. i cant wait to come back.

Great location by Pike Place Market. The rooms were nice with enough room to lock away your luggage. Staff were accommodating throughout my visit. I was there for only one night, but I wish I could've stayed longer to experience the plethora of events they had planned. Will visit again!

Have not been there in years.Hopefully it has improved by now. It was a dirty and disgusting place where people wait to steal your stuff. They had these people called day workers that lived there in return for doing chores. Some of them had been there for months or years. They would wait around steal other visitor stuff. Some people had lockers and they were broken into.

It s such a great place for the amount of money! We loved the atmosphere there!

Not just the people were friendly and openminded but also the stuff was really cool and helpful! Just the cultural experience itself is worth it visiting this place. We met people from all over the world!

It s right next to the first Starbucks and a one minute walk away from the gum wall and the pike place market itself!

I would really recommend to stay there if you want to visit Seattle!

Stayed a few nights and I m impressed definitely one of the better hostels I ve stayed at! Very communal, with many rooms, many showers and bathrooms, a free breakfast where you can go make your own eggs in the kitchen, fridge for your food, even a laundry room! And the staff and hostel mates were all so sweet and fun. Will stay again should I come back

Positives: the location is great for getting around to major Seattle sights, the hostel is organized, WiFi works well, has storage for suitcases.
Negatives: for being directly opposite the pike market has quite a lot of noise day and night, bedbugs, bath towels are charged the part.

When I stayed at the Green Tortoise Hostel, guests...

When I stayed at the Green Tortoise Hostel, guests left unfinished joints in the shower rooms. I don't smoke weed but even for a state where weed is legal this is, to me, horrible guest etiquette.

Someone on the maintenance staff told me to call the cops on myself for eating tortilla chips in my room, then later told another resident I threatened her when I didn't. When the maintenance staff lady noticed I was taking out my trash at the other end of the hall when she made this false statement, she attempted to correct herself, saying I threatened to call the cops on her rather than actually threaten her (I don't threaten people because I'm not violent or insane). I didn't even do this.

What actually happened: the maintenance staff lady threatened to call the police on me for eating chips in my room 30 minutes prior to me checking out -- when she was supposed to be assisting with cleaning my room rather than delaying my checkout. When I told her I was fine with discussing the issue of my previously having eaten tortilla chips in my room with the police, she realized the issue probably didn't justify a police call on behalf of the hostel, so she told me to call the cops on myself, which I didn't do.

The front desk routinely printed keycards that didn't work and the hall smelled like weed. None of the several access keycards I was given worked for accessing the building.

I didn't feel safe during my three night stay at the Green Tortoise hostel--in retrospect I should have asked to stay in a room where the deadbolt lock was functioning (the deadbolt lock didn't work for the room I stayed at so all I had to protect my belongings was the key).

I wouldn't recommend staying here. The front desk staff is dishonest, the maintenance staff are rude and while the rooms are cheap, my room was of poor quality (bedding, etc.).

Great hostel! It fully justifies its price for its money, and even more!
Rooms are ventilated, each guest has curtains around the perimeter of the bed (for lovers of personal space, as for me, this is a huge plus), a personal lamp, 2 personal sockets, a personal fan and a spacious storage room. A clean towel can be rented for $ 1.
I was in an 8-bed mixed room, but there was no noise / discomfort / inconvenience - all the residents were cultured, no one stole anything, no one made noise, mostly students stay here.
The bathrooms are clean, renovated, slightly ill-conceived - there is no shelf for bottles in the shower stall itself, but these are trifles. And by the way, the bathrooms themselves were made a lot, only on the second floor there were about 10, if not more, so there were no queues even during "rush hours" (morning / evening).
Huge + these are free breakfasts - several breakfast cereals to choose from, milk, tea, coffee, fresh fruit, toast, jam, butter.
The kitchen, plates, cups, pots, pans, microwave oven, stove, sink, etc. are available to the public.
There is also a vending machine with free water, you can collect some water in your container, free of charge.
The front desk is friendly, everyone showed and told.
The only negative is that in the evenings they like to smoke weed in the common room, since it is legalized in Seattle. So I do not recommend appearing in the lobby in the evening, it will blow away with smoke :) But as for me, this is a minor minus. Everything is cultural, visitors do not make a rowdy, but simply relax.
The location is simply gorgeous - close to Pike Place Market! In fact, the very heart of the city, next to the Ferris Wheel, the waterfront, the first Starbucks, a few blocks away is the Columbia Center. 15 minutes walk to Olympic Sculpture Park, Seattle Center. Convenient transport interchange. Easy to get to and from the airport.
If you are thinking whether to stay here, I can safely say - definitely worth it!

Great experience, exactly what we expected. We got a private room, and the shared bathrooms were clean and high quality - much nicer than we expected for a hostel. The value of the location cannot be undersold. It is at Pike Place Market. Just step outside and you're there. Everything else is within walking distance, which is fantastic.

I had a mixed experience at the Green Tortoise Hostel.

Pros:
- I loved that the beds had curtains around them for extra privacy.
- Plenty of power outlets and a fan for each bed.
- Individual bathrooms, so I could have my shower and get ready in peace.
- A sink and mirror in the room, so I could brush my teeth if the bathrooms were all occupied.
- Nice spacious lockers.
- Unbeatable location.

Cons:
- A ton of street noise from outside, making it difficult to sleep.
- I know the hostel has green as a theme, but EVERYTHING was green (the sheets, the curtains, etc.). The decor could definitely do with a bit of updating, as the place seemed a rather run down.
- Some sort of shelf or stool in the bathroom would be nice.
- Limited breakfast selection, and no non-dairy milk for those who are lactose intolerant, vegan or have allergies.
- The front desk always has someone there, but I found there was a bit of a wait to get them to acknowledge me after I said hello (even if there was literally no one there but me). It seemed that the computer was more interesting.
- $40+ per night is a STEEP price to pay for the quality of sleep and stay in general.

In summary, I loved the location but my hostel stay was just ok. This place definitely pales in comparison to European hostels I ve stayed at.

Was a really friendly place in a wonderful location. The beds were nice and had curtains for privacy, as well as little fans and lights for each. The common area was clean and pleasant. The staff were excellent and helpful and I'd definitely stay again. Right across from Pike place market and down the street from the convention center, a great place to stay.

It is a community hostel where you have virtually all services from the Internet to breakfast and dinner for free, it is close to downtown and to move around the city you only need to take a train, the same one that takes you to tacoma airport.

This is one of the best hostels I've ever been to! Each bunk has a fan and a light, as well as four outlets! Breakfast is your standard cereal and fruit but with it being so close to pikes place market (can literally see the market from the window) you have plenty of food options at your fingertips! Highly recommend!!!

Considered this alongside the possibility of staying at one of the tall hotels. So glad I stayed here because I got a better location with more amenities at a better price than I could have had anywhere else.

It is a good place to stay in Seattle. The guys in charge of the hostel are generally very friendly and if you speak English or Spanish you will feel very comfortable. The prices are accessible, the facilities (particularly bathrooms) are clean, they have information for travelers, as well as cultural and recreational activities on the CD. If during your stay there is a safe holiday you will have a great time with the activities that are organized. It has a very good location, close to the aquarium, restaurants and the iconic Seattle market. Do not forget to bring a padlock, you will need it.

Best hostel I've stayed at. Staff were amazing and really made you feel welcome. It was clean and I loved the privacy curtains around the beds. Good central location, great atmosphere and easy to meet people to arrange nights out. The included breakfast was delicious and you could pay a small amount for dinner 3 nights a week.

This is such a fantastic hostel. The location is amazing. The facilities are sparkling clean (especially the shared bathrooms, which is very important to me).

The shared dorm rooms are interesting. Each bunk has the equivalent of a short shower curtain so you get some privacy. I thought it was a nice touch.

Hostel is on the second and third floor of the building, with no elevator access. Something to keep in mind if you have luggage!

Way legit! I was a bit skeptical about staying in a Hostel, this being my 1st Hostel. I flew into Seattle for the Texans vs Hawks game on Sunday with friends, and stayed in Alki beach (west Seattle) in an AirBNB. Everyone left Monday morning, and i was adamant before coming to Seattle on staying an extra day, and staying in a hostel! It was so very worth it. I arrived 5 hours before check-in, (checking my ID). They allowed me to BOTH my luggage at no fee, while i went walking around and did some shopping (Locked up with a gate). I was able to come back and chill around until i was able to be 'checked in'.

Service: They staff/employees were all very friendly and funny. They have a good system down, and plenty of what it seems to be employees. They were very chill, and liked joining you in the lounge room @ every 'break' they could get.

**Rooms were clean, sheets were clean and folded perfectly. Personal bottom bunk (and all bunks) had a working fan and light switch. Also extra plug-ins for personal use. Bathrooms were all clean (yes i checked all, hehe). No bed bugs (where i was at). I had a great view on the corner of Pike Street, looking at Hard Rock Cafe and the actual Market Place sign. It was very cool. I left at 4am for the Airport, and along with this great review i'm leaving, i left me stash with the front desk. They rock!

Total worth the cheaper the hotel stay! The adventure was awesome. I will be back some day!

Thanks again Green Tortoise Hostel!

Much Love,

Amazing hostel! The atmosphere was superb, and you get a great value for your money--outlets by every bed, curtains around each bunk so you aren't woken up by someone turning on the light in the middle of the night, free dinners three times a week, and social events every night. Highly recommend!

I was there for a very short period of time, but my stay was easy and enjoyable. The rooms were clean and comfortable with little curtains, personal lights, fans, and luggage lockers (a lock could be rented for $5). There was never a wait for the restroom and they were all clean. The one exception was the downstairs restroom. I would have given Green Tortoise a 5, but I used that downstairs one just after checking out and it was absolutely disgusting. I think someone must have been very sick as it smelt horrible and there was feces everywhere. I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt and assuming it was a recent mess, but it was still really gross and left a bad taste in my mouth as I left. Otherwise the hostel was great. The staff was friendly, the rooms were comfortable, and the location couldn't be beat!

Great centralized location right next to many city landmarks & easily accessible by public transportation. Depending on what side of the building you're room is on you make hear a lot of outside noise but at least you can get complimentary ear plugs. The showers are individual and very spacious but some of them don't have a border seperating it from the rest of the floor which can easily turn the area around the toilet into a pool.

For pioneers square you can't beat the location. The building is a little old but the beds are made from solid wood and are comfortable. Nice showers but a few shady faces hanging around the common room later at night

Very nice hostel! Very clean, but the surroundings are pretty bad. A lot of homeless people and drug addicts. With windows open, you even can hear them screaming around. We sadly had some bad experience with having one drug addict in our room... That wasn't very pleasant... But it was our last night, so we were quite happy to be out of that room afterwards.
