Green Tortoise Seattle Guest House Review

Always a great time here. Great location and perfect for solo travelers. Stayed in the San Francisco location so I was excited to see one in Seattle. Chill staff and clean rooms. They do their best to keep bathrooms clean. Common areas are much smaller than the San Francisco location and not as large of a breakfast, but it's still free. Appreciate the wall of 'things to do' in the city. Free secure luggage storage before and after check in if needed. Towels are $1 and locks are $5 if you forget them. This hostel has character and that's why I like it so much. Amazing location right across from Pike's Place Market and 2 blocks from the Westlake train station.

We had an amazing view of Pike's Place from our room and the staff were super helpful. I would definitely recommend this hostel because of the great location and convenience. There are the normal issues with roommates so I would be prepared for that but the experience is worth it. I enjoyed the events they offered and would recommend the walking tours.

My friend and I stayed at the Seattle Green Tortoise for a week (June 2014), and we liked it a lot! Free breakfast every morning, dinner 3 times a week, the laundry prices were good, and the actual place was just nice. For $30-ish a night, it felt clean and well taken care of for such an old/well used building! Lots of storage under the bed, and if you don't remember to bring a lock, they're sold at the desk! Also, the kitchen is really well stocked with utensils and other supplies. The farmer's market is right down the street, so it's fun (and a lot cheaper than eating out) to get stuff from there and make food in the kitchen.

I would have given 5 stars if it weren't for a really crappy person at the front desk. We met a lot of great people who worked there, but there was one who was unbelievably rude to us. She (I think her name was Leah, blonde curly hair) glared at us, raised her voice with us when we checked in, helped people in line behind us when we waited at the counter, and later just ignored us for the rest of the visit while being incredibly attentive and friendly to others. Otherwise great place, but we hope we don't have to deal with such a sour person the next time we stay :/

Great location, reasonably priced, clean bathrooms and friendly people. What more could you want?
There was also a diversity of ages so if you are little longer in the tooth you won t be alone surrounded by 20-somethings. :)

Solid place to stay on the cheap. I got a smallish private room which was clean... . window was right above the smoking lounge, and occasionally the ppls down there could get VERY loud. But w/evs. The many bathrooms were kept as clean as possible given the near-constant usage. Staff were very helpful with tips on where to go and what to do, over and above all of the web searches. Only drawback (and I've worked in kitchens for decades, so it's a button) is that there were people in the communal kitchen coughing and sneezing all over the place when they were making food. Yikes!

Awesome, sociable atmosphere at this hostel. Great for solo travellers looking to meet people, especially on the hostel-run outings/excursions that they have every day. Compared to the dozens of other hostels I've been in, even the facilities and cleanliness are pretty up there

Great location near the market and within walking distance of the needle and museums. Friendly, helpful staff, good kitchen and common room. The bedrooms and bathrooms are probably the best of the many hostels I've stayed in. Curtains, power sockets, fan and lamp on all beds. Lockable storage under beds. Free earplugs are useful if you are by a window onto the street. The best thing is the beds don't squeak!

Awesomeness! The staff working behind the counter did an amazing job keeping everything organized and being very courteous. Couldn't have asked for a better experience, aside from the dude on the top bunk from me having sex, but all in all a good experience. That was 1 night of 3 that I stayed here, so no complaints. For $30, you're directly across the street from Pike's Place Market.

The Green Tortoise does a great job. I will stay there again the next time I am in Seattle. It is in Pikes Market. The location couldn't be better.

Very communicative, clean, and friendly establishment. It is located in safe and convenient area. The hostel also offered many fun tours and deals like bike rentals.

Good, cheap. Get breakfast and internet and a bed to sleep in right downtown.

This is a big hostel with not so big rooms. Bed is comfy enough, the kitchen has all the necessary equipments. There are a lot of events going on in the hostel and a plenty of information on what to do in Seattle. Overall a good hostel for a decent price.

WORST AND MOST HUMILIATING experience of my life! I was in town on business and was not sure if I needed to stay another night. I frequently like to stay at hostels for the social atmosphere when traveling by myself. The last evening, there was also a football game in town. This done up other rates of rooms by approximately 400% and the rooms by the time I returned, were gone. I was not concerned. I just hung out, as I had already been there for 5 days and paid my $165+ and didn't think twice. I was told that I would be let to know when someone checked out first thing in the morning. I was not. Instead, upon going to the community restroom, I was met by the meat-head front desk person and told I needed to remove myself from the property immediately and I would never be allowed to book at that property again even though I asked to book a room as soon as possible. I also asked what I had done wrong and if I could correct it. I was told nothing, just leave. Poor business practice! I even offered to pay for the space I used while waiting. I was not allowed. Once again, I was asked to leave and not come back. I was also asked to show my ID for record of my name for a "no-booking" list. To be honest, the staff is usually so baked, they probably don't remember where the list is anyway. They even misplaced my ID in plain sight one day. Really?!?!? Anyway... Long story short, this was a good experience fine very, very bad!

It is a location by any means.

I have stayed there many times while visiting Seattle for a weekend or two. The staff are very helpful and knowledgeable with the city for places to go and things to do, and have discounts for many attraction including the EMP museum. The kitchen is well stocked for you to cook your own food with utensils and pots and pans. And while i was there a guy was making Rabbit Stew for everyone. Great Hospitality! Also the back smoking room is really nice to chat with your fellow Hostel goes. The only drawback and I would recommend is to bring your own padlock for your room and a towel for the shower. I also highly recommend Sasha's Food Tour and Pub Crawl.

It's right by Pike Place, the rooms are clean, and they have lots of private bathrooms. It has a lot of character, but it's a great place to stay when you're on a budget.

Pretty dirty but got the job done and absolutely can t beat the location and price!!

Thank you so much for making my Seattle experience unforgettable! The location is superb, 30 sec away from the famous Pike Place Market. The staff were all nice and attentive whenever I needed them. Even though my room was a 4-bed dorm, there was a curtain that cover you so that you can hide from the other people in your room. All areas in this hostel were well cleaned. There are free events for the hostel guests every day where I was able to meet a friend for life :) Will definitely come back the next time.

This place is literally right next to the Pike Place Market! The location is good, except that there were a few homeless people on the street. I thought the staff was pretty friendly and the rooms were well maintained. The breakfast wasn't that great, but the common area is a cool place to hang out in.

This hostel has a lot of opportunities for people to explore Seattle and meet new people. They've got cool events going on every night, and free breakfast every morning.

I've been coming here for a few years now. Great place to stay. Sad to hear it's going to be demolished in the next couple of years!

The hostel is super centrally located, has a very cozy atmosphere and very friendly staff. With us there was a misunderstanding when booking, we actually wanted a double room for ourselves, but had accidentally only a double bed in a room with several double beds (attention queen bed dorm). Because we had to cope 24h arrival and neat jet lag, that was a nasty surprise and not an option for us. Sebastian at the front desk was very understanding and eager to help us. The hostel has only one private double room, which was unfortunately occupied, but we were allowed to cancel for free and use the wireless for our search for an alternative. Thanks again Sebastian!

City hostel is a more interesting place to stay at but green tortoise has better beds. Each bunk had its own privacy curtains with a little fan and an electrical outlet. Plus an under bunk lockable storage area! Little creature comforts like that go a long way.

Fantastic hostel, it has a great free breakfast, good free dinners and couldn't have a better location. You need to watch out though as the door is hard to spot on the street. Only thing that let it down was that the staff lacked knowledge on restaurants and bars when we inquired.
