The Green Tortoise Hostel was a great choice!

The Green Tortoise Hostel was a great choice!
The location is very good! Right on Pike Place Market, relatively central and close to the waterfront.
The rooms are large, clean and offer a lot of privacy through curtains with which you can cover your bed.
A fan and a reading lamp are also attached to each bed.
Lockers are available and very large (my entire suitcase fit in and there was still a lot of space)
Free breakfast is included and absolutely sufficient.
The bathrooms are big and clean. The bathrooms are shared, but divided into individual rooms so that you are alone, which in my opinion is very positive.
There are activities offered by the hostel every day such as Pub crawls or even free beer in the hostel.
The staff is very friendly and the hostel in general has a great atmosphere.
The way from the train to the hotel takes about 10 minutes, which is absolutely not bad.
The only point of criticism: my locker was a bit poorly placed (they are always located under the beds) but if I had my locker open, the room door could no longer be opened.

Great hostel in a prime location. They offer daily activities like game night, group dinner, tours, or a pub crawl. The bathrooms are clean and single-rooms; sleep rooms are comfortable and include necessities like sheets, lockers (locks for rent), sinks, and in each bunk- fans, lights, and outlets.
They have helpful staff and good community spaces.

Such a great hostel. Great location. You will meet awesome people from all over the world. Very friendly staff. Clean rooms with a big locker for each bed. Clean washrooms. Free breakfast, sometimes dinner too. I would totally stay there next time I visit Seattle.

If you're visiting Seattle and want to be in walki...

If you're visiting Seattle and want to be in walking distance of literally everything, and you like the experience of community and want to feel at home in the city then *this* is the place to stay.

I arrived just before 9pm and stayed for two nights. I found the place to be incredibly clean, given that it's a hostel. I stayed in one of the co-ed rooms and slept on the bottom bunk. The mattress was comfortable with enough blankets to feel cosy. Each bed comes with a small lamp for reading, a fan at the foot of the bed for warmer nights, and heavy curtains that you can draw for privacy.

I brought my own ear plugs but they have free ear plugs for the taking.
Each bed comes with an assigned hook to hang your towel, jacket etc ... and a large storage space underneath the bed. You can bring your own lock or use one of theirs.

There were three bathroom facilities on my floor and the space was large enough to move around comfortably. There's a large stand up shower with a wide shower head for that rainfall feel. The bathroom is well lit too.
Make sure to bring flip flops and a small bag to carry your toiletries and such ... to hang on the hooks behind the door.

I love the common kitchen where you can cook your own food. They also have three large refrigerators for you to store your food. Make sure to label them. They also provide free breakfasts (coffee, tea, juices, toast, fruit, butter, jams ... ) and for those night owls, coffee, tea ... are offered 24/7.

They also have laundry facilities but I didn't need to use it.
You can rent towels for $1 each too if you didn't bring your own.

LOCATION. LOCATION. LOCATION.

The place is across the street from the First Starbucks in Seattle. It's also beside a three storey Target and Pike Place Market is literally just steps away.

You can walk to the Space Needle / EMP in just 24 minutes or less. The Seattle Aquarium, Sculpture Garden and everything the city has to offer is just walk away!

The staff is also super friendly and very hard working.

Just read the offerings on their website for other amenities. You won't be disappointed.

It's hard to beat this hostel in terms of price and location. Situated right next to Pike Place Market, you'll find friendly staff and above average hostel accommodations here. Highly recommended for travelers on a budget or interested in meeting new people!

I stayed here for one night trip to Seattle. It was my first time experiencing the hostel accomodation. I had a lot of doubts, I mean sleeping in a room with bunch of strangers doesnt seem so appealing. When I got here an hour early, they allow me to check in and store my bag for free. The room is designed like a small dorm room that accomodate 8 people (4 bunk beds) Individual get a small locker space underneath the bed and you can rent the lock for $5 dollars but they give u $3 refund if u return it at check out. I personally didnt have to use a locker and didnt get my things stolen either. You are not allow to eat or store food or drink in the room but you are more than welcome to do so in the lounge area. There are about 4 private shower/bathroom per section which means you have the bathroom to yourself. toothbrush and toothpaste is for sale per $1 each if you forgot yours. Towels are also $1 each. I believe they also rent out bikes for $5/hour or $30/all day. The hostel is located right by pike place! the entrance is easy to miss but its right next to the souvenir shop. The breakfast was decent but you do have to wash your own dishes at the end. I would say the only downside is if you end up getting the bottom bunk by the door, you are likely to be woken up every time someone leaves the room if you are sensitive to light. Also since it is close to the pike place, there are a lot of activities outside the window so it might be hard to fall asleep.

I give you 5 out of 5. What more can I say?

You could add a curtain to the window side of 202D. Keeps out the light from the ad sign on the building.

Anyone looking for a hostel 101 what to do and what not to go there!

Rooms were nice. Price was fantastic. I shared a dorm room with friends. However I got up at 5am to take a shower and the bathroom was covered in long black hair so I moved to the next bathroom which had more debris and more hair all over. Can not rinse it down because there are no hand held showers. Nothing to clean it up with. Also the lounge room reaks of cigarettes and I found out there is an adjoining "smoking room" to the public room.

Excellent hostel in a great location with very good customer service (Rachel and Justin provided excellent customer service while I was there-i think that was their names if i recall correctly). Beds were very comfortable and had a great curtain which provides privacy (I have not seen this at any other hostel I have been to). Also, the lockers were the biggest and best lockers I have seen at a hostel easily fitting my suitcase, backpack and large shopping bag-I put a picture below of the lockers)-they have locks for rent if you do not have your own. The hostel is in a great location across from Pike Place Market (and near the very 1st Starbucks) in the heart of downtown Seattle (also only a couple of blocks near the light rail station from the airport or bus and Amtrak station) so it is easy to get to. They have a decent (albeit unremarkable breakfast buffet from 6 to 10AM every morning with the usual stuff-eggs, oatmeal, toast, peanut butter-etc and the Internet worked well while I was there. They have free beer (yes- free if you are 21 and have ID) on Friday and Saturday nights and on occasion have a free dinner night (1 night I was there they had free and very good ice cream). There are event nights (like pub crawls) and tours a few days a week as well. It can get noisy (since it is is in the middle of downtown)so use the free earplugs the hostel provides at the front desk and there is a lounge if you want to use marijuana (it is legal in Washington state). I met a lot of cool people here at this hostel and look forward to returning again sometime.

Great staff, wonderful location and clean space. Would only maybe complain about the noise early morning. Wish people were a little more mindful (maybe a feedback to share with your guests) but would definitely recommend the hostel!

Clean, efficient, and surprisingly private for a hostel. Each bed features curtains and the bathrooms are all private, which is a refreshing change. The value is good, the free breakfasts are great, and the location is unbeatable. Highly recommend!

I had a mostly positive experience there. They did a free beer night on an evening I stayed there, which was a delight. However, a staff member named JR was intoxicated (presumabley off the beer the hostel gave him) and terribely rude and aggressive towards me. I DID NOTHING TO PROVOKE THIS! Literally was sitting on my phone having a cigarette when he started at me. I didn t know he was staff at the time, but I was very angry when I learned he was. He was so bad that a fellow staff member approached me to apologize the morning after, which I appreciated. But JR was not held accountable and despite seeing him the day after, he offered no apology for his actions. The reason I share this story is to make the green tortise aware that despite the efficient albeit lax environment there, they still need to make sure they hire good people without such baggage. I didn t pay much to be there, but I would have expected the money I did pay was to provide me and other guests with a safe space to stay. Having a belligerent staff member comprises that dynamic. I never felt physically threatened, but things could have easily escalated in what was otherwise a peaceful and friendly place to stay.

Very good service, the staff was nice and the breakfast is continental but better presented than in many other hostels. The internet is fast in the lobby and the bathrooms are clean and although they are shared they are well equipped individual bathrooms. The large common room has many comfortable sofas and games to be entertained. I saw the kitchen very well equipped and clean. The location is the best for Tourists in Seattle. If I'm back, I'll go back to this hostel.

Amazing location! The rooms were also relatively clean, with a small sink in my 6 mixed room. The common corridors smell funky, prob due to the carpet, but thank goodness the rooms didn't smell like that. Staff was a friendly bunch and they've great daily activities!

Just a quick stop in Seattle before continuing my journey north and I could not have had a better experience. Location is in beatable in the center of everything. My experience in the all female 4 bed dunk was exactly what I needed. The privacy curtains, individual bunk light and fan were all unexpected comforts that made my stay even better! I recommend this hostel and will hopefully fund myself in Seattle soon again!

Great central location, easy to find and pretty quiet with street noise. Lockers are huge - easily fit 2 large backpacks in there. Plenty of showers.

Beds are pretty hard and I was there in the summer and they place gets hot (don't be afraid to use the fans provided).

I didn't use the Wi-Fi or Kitchen so can't say much. At check-in the staff are warm and helpful even with a few minor allocation issues.

Best hostel in Seattle, both for location and experience. Stayed here on three separate visits, and always leave with great memories. The staff are knowledgeable and helpful, there's free breakfast every morning, and many free or inexpensive tour/group outings throughout the week. Highly recommend!

The location is good, but it's right in front of the market, so it's noisy until dawn, and I used a mixed 8-person dormitory, but no humans say they don't sleep at night, and the door is automatically closed until 4 am, so it keeps waking and closing every time it closes. The sound and vibration can cause bone pain.
The bathroom is with a shower room, so it is uncomfortable, smells, and the water pressure is very low.
I haven't eaten breakfast yet, so I don't know
I'm lying in bed right now, but even at this time I'm stressed out by the sound of people closing the door.
And there is no table in the room with a towel and a hairdryer, but it is very high and steep.
For reference, it says that the wifi is bad
I don t even give a blanket, just give me a blanket
If you come back to Seattle, you won't be here again. Seattle will see Everything is in a very high position, so even if you hold it a little far away, it's worth walking around.

The only advantage is having a personal stand and curtains? But there are no accommodations that are not working like this these days.

This place is directly in the city center. Out the door to the left is the main entrance to Pike Place Market and to the right is the Hard Rock Cafe and Seattle Coffee Works. I stayed in a female dorm with seven others and have no complaints. The place is clean, I felt safe and everything I needed was here. I was able to borrow a lock for a small fee, get a towel, take a hot shower in a clean, shared bathroom, and was provided a warm blanket and clean sheets. There is an ATM on site, fridge to store your food, common area, smoking area and privacy curtains for your bed. I don t think there is AC, but there is a fan for each bed (which provides white noise) which made things comfortable. Staff was very friendly! I recommend some ear buds to muffle noises from your roommates coming and going. Close enough that I was able to walk to REI and to the Amtrak station. Excellent experience and it fit my tiny budget! Thanks to everyone for your service!

We arrived on Saturday evening for one night. The receptionist was a little bit annoyed about something and it was evident from her dry replies. However, we stayied in a 6-bed dormitory and the room was clean. Bathrooms were big and we'll maintained. We had some luck because some days of the hostel offer free dinner for their guests and we had some lasagna with other young travellers. The location was perfect for discovering Seattle downtown and there are several parking very close to the hostel. It is only 15 minutes walking from cape hill where lots of cool bars and clubs are based.

I have never stayed at a hostel but I know they're...

I have never stayed at a hostel but I know they're very popular in Europe, so I didn't know what to expect. I think my choice of the Green Tortoise Hostel in Seattle is going to ruin it for the rest of them. The staff are super friendly, the beds and sheets are clean, the bathrooms are spacious, they have free breakfast, there's free beer on Fridays and Saturdays, and free dinner on Sundays. All this while a literal stones throw away from Pike Peak Market. I couldn't ask for better on this wonderful summertime trip with my 14-year old godson.
I have absolutely no complaints about our stay here. But I do have a couple of suggestions and an observation. One suggestion would be to add a small shelf to the bed post nearest the outlets. It doesn't have to be a big shelf. Just big enough to put your cell phone at night without worrying about waking up strangling yourself with the power cord (don't ask how I know this, LOL). Another suggestion would be shampoo and soap dispensers in the showers, but I don't know if this is standard for hostels. Finally, the observation - this hostel is right downtown in front of Pike Place Market and you're going to need the windows open on some nights if you want to sleep comfortably. And there will be noise on Friday and Saturday nights in downtown Seattle. Accept that and you won't be disappointed. This place is great.

Amazing. Great location, next to the 2nd Starbucks, the Hard Rock Cafe, and Pike Place Market. Free breakfast is great and every other day they serve free dinner (they even have a Taco night!), which is also fantastic. Lots of events and walking tours, with the occasional pub crawl. If you are staying in Seattle, you must go here!

Friendly and nice staff. Got in late but they took the time to show us to our room. My biggest complaint is just the noise at night. Busy streets mixed with lots of people in the building. Ear plugs are provided for free though so that's awesome.

Great location!

Great location!
Just near the entrance to the Pike Market~
Because I didn't stay in Seattle, I needed to find a place where I could carry my luggage. I was able to deposit $6/piece of baggage, which was half the price of the airport. I needed to add clothes to the cold because of the cold. If you need to store your luggage, you can also consider this!

Nice activities (including free walking tours), day trips to the waterfalls (for only 20 bucks), free dinners three times a week (free breakfast daily), very good coffee and located right by the market/hard rock cafe. But it's also very noisy (concert hall and highly frequented street near by) and a bit dirty (some bathrooms, dusty fans!!). If you want a good sleep, don't book here. If you want to have fun and socialize, get in!
