Clean friendly hostel, good price, with breakfast ...
Clean friendly hostel, good price, with breakfast and tours. Right downtown, would stay again.

3 stars for the location. Staff is not very friendly except for the latino guy.
Really chill vibe, cheap and friendly alternative to a hotel. Very great environment w lots of hostel group activities(i.e. free tours, free drinks, etc)
Perfect hostel in terms of service, location, price and ambiance. We were a group of 8 which made it perfect since we could reserve a whole room for our selves. The room had 4 bunk bends each with a curtain for privacy and a safe. The lounge area is a social friendly environment. All in all its great for backpackers.
Everything you would expect from a hostel plus a great location. First time staying here but it'll definitely be my goto spot when I'm in the area.
Place like home, everybody really kind nice and clean place in a perfect position
Lovely place to stay in Seattle, close to everything, good staff with Tradeworking program, lots of fun and plans and tours
Really great hostel in a perfect location, would highly recommend!
The hostel was amazing! Rooms were very clean and the beds are surprisingly comfortable. Breakfast in the mornings is nice and they're are always some events going on. Location is just a couple hundred feet from pike place market so it's hard to beat! It's also a straight shot to the convention center and a short walk to the train station to go to the airport. Highly recommend!
Very fun hostel! Enjoyable atmosphere and the personel is always kind. The only thing that's a bit of a downside is that you are not allowed to bring food or drinks in your room.
Located right next to Pike Place market can't be beat. Rooms were really nice and beds were comfy. Staff was excellent and very helpful.
I liked staying here, its the perfect startpoint to explore the City. There is a Target just 1 min. away...so you can pick up some grocery and use the kitchen in here.
The hostel is very big and quite impersonal. The dormitories are clean and practical (personal lockers + curtains around each bed, taken in sufficient numbers) but noisy if they overlook the market of Pike Place. The bathrooms are sufficient but not very clean or practical (no carpets, sometimes no hook or place to put toiletries) and the toilet is not equipped with brushes, which is embarrassing! The kitchen is not very welcoming (noisy and smell of gas) nor very practical (professional gas a bit intimidating, utensils impractical ...). The common room does not lack tables and chairs but there could be a few more cozy places. Finally, the staff is neither friendly nor unfriendly and the hostel's program of events is confusing. Finally, the wifi is capricious and did not work in my dorm! All in all, this hostel does not deserve all the money we spend!
100$ a night?!?!..... hostels are supposed to be CHEAP even if it a nice 3/4 star place ... 100$ can get you a nice room downtown .<br/>why this place is so much idk <br/>Why this place is so much idk<br/>Lol geesh
The rooms are small, the matresses are worn out and uncomfortable (mine had a spring poking out of it), the kitchen is difficult to cook things in because all the measuring cups' and stoves' labels have been rubbed off, for breakfast, they do have cold options, bread you can toast, and eggs you can make. That being said, you get what you pay for. It's the cheapest and hippest place to stay in downtown Seattle.
If you are looking for a reasonably priced place to stay in Seattle then this is the place for you! The location is unbeatable. It's right next to Pike's Market. It's within walking distance of 3 different, delicious breweries. They have a 420 friendly smoking lounge and you'll meet tons of cool people!
Green Tortoise is definitely the best hostel I've ever stayed at (and I've been staying in hostels for 3 years now in numerous different countries). The atmosphere is social, welcoming, and friendly. Perfect for a solo traveler or groups. There are always people hanging out in the common area so it's very easy to meet people and start a conversation. The hostel does pub crawls multiple times a week that are super fun and take you to a bunch of great places.
Location is the best you could ask for. You're in the middle of downtown so there's food, bars, markets, bookshops, shopping, museums and tons more crazy close to you.
The rooms are awesome. Clean and not overly cramped with big lockers for storage. The beds are comfy with great curtains that give you privacy. The bathrooms/showers are separate individual rooms which is a wonderful luxury when it comes to hostels.
With out a doubt the best hostel experience I've ever had.
We really enjoyed staying at Green Tortoise. The location was fantastic, the price was good, the other guests were cool and interesting, the bed was comfortable, even if the room was a bit stuffy and warm and some of the staff were less than attentive. It was cool that they had breakfasts included, occasional dinners, and fun activities.
Amazing staff! Clean, well kept, incredible amenities! Greatly priced, and conveniently located! Definitely stay here if you can!
Really really great position! Clean and pracrical hostel!
One of the best hostels I have ever stayed at. Perfect location, friendly staff and delicious breakfasts!
Very comfortable beds, warm rooms and great atmosphere. The night I happened to stay here there was free spaghetti and beer!
One of best hostels I have stayed in. The staff is super friendly and helpul.
The Green Tortoise Hostel in Seattle sits right on the corner of the Pikes Place Market, with wild fish and astonishingly excellent fruit and produce Market. The building itself is Historic and from early 1900's style. The staff was amazingly polite and very accommodating. One of the managers Sebastion is a professional Ritz Carlton type Manager whos honed his skills appropriately. Im legally and medically disabled w/ a broken back, 4 reconstructive surgeries and recent tumor surgerys rendering it almost impossible for me to sleep more than 4-5hrs at a time.
I requested and was immediately given a bottom bunk by the satff. Excellent! The beds were cozy, rooms were remarkably clean, and each bed has its own light and fan along w/ curtains for privacy. In addition to having 4 Launder Pares to wash clothes. A smoking Lounge and a beautiful commercial style kitchen. Breakfast served daily and delicious.
I unwillingly misplaced an expensive item of which the Manager Sebastion as a Good Samaritan had turned in to Lost and found. Excellent. This is the kind of place thats honest and has integrity. The pub crawls were very fun and actually tour like as you attend places of celebrity fame somewhat. Overall my experience was plentiful, accomodating and very professional. My only complaint is the "night shift" guy who kept harassing me about "setting" my things down? Its a Hotel? People are going to need to set things down especially when they travel from across the country to your Hostel. In addition as a disabled person required for medical reasons to carry a small medical bag w/ my medical devices. He was very disrespectful and somewhat discriminatory? I do not know his name; just hes very rude and under performing; has no customer service skills whatsoever. For this reason alone I give Green Tortoise Hostel 4 stars! Without his rudeness I would have given them 5 stars. Thanks to All the Female Staff of which were very kind and very helpful. Thank you J.R. for carrying my bag downstairs for me as well. That was the most kind gesture and nice to have someone "asist" me as a disabled person; rather than lecture me about setting my things down. Thank you Green Tortoise Hostel for such a great stay otherwise. Seattle is a great city and full of wonderful people. I plan on revisiting next year and am writing an essay to the Corporate Building Structure to request that they NOT tear down the Heart of Seattle to Build Million Dollar Condos for the 1%ers!
Taking away and tearing down this hostel in my opinion is synonymous to
removing the heart of the City! This building has Historic beauty and wonderful people. Thank you Green Tortoise Hostel for a Grand Experience! Cordially,
Geat Hostel! Awesome acitivities such as the oub crawl!
Can't beat the location and price. Great hospitality.
It didn't meet the cleanliness or friendliness standards of international hostels, but the location is excellent next to Pike's Place market
Long and slow check-in process but great location. Bathrooms are clean! My first hostel and it's apparently a "fancy" hostel in comparison to others that my brother has stayed at when overseas.
Amazing location, great way to meet international friends, free breakfast, free dinner 3x per week, private bunks, clean restrooms. I highly recommend this place.
For a hostel the price was a bit high. It is in a good location though. The free breakfast was awful. The only option was cereal and cut up fruit so nothing could be taken on the go. Other hostels I've stayed in have had better accommodations for better prices.
After my initial booking, I had to change my reservation details twice. Very unlike me, and I was expecting the staff to be frustrated, but they were so kind and helpful.
Green Tortoise is awesome! It sits right next to Pike Place market. There was so much to do within easy walking distance. The staff was friendly and very knowledgeable about the city. There are a lot of accommodations within the hostel, free breakfast, a smoking room, free wireless Internet access, discounts on local attractions, and lots of reference materials to help people get familiar with Seattle's many attractions. The rooms are comfortable, there is plenty of room to store your belongings, and there are loads of bathrooms with decent showers. The price is unbeatable, especially considering all that you get in return.
I ve stayed here twice and really enjoyed it both times! The location is just unbeatable and the layout of the dorm rooms is actually a lot of space for this type of hostel. I never eat breakfast here, but they also have a full kitchen that guests can use.
The room is a little old, this is the only one point.
The location is super invincible, just opposite the Pike Market, next to the gum wall, the first Starbucks, the best local cannabis store, and even walked to the Space Needle area for less than half an hour, so basically my accommodation in Seattle is Use it.
Free breakfast, counter service staff is very good, one of the young girls is very cute and enthusiastic, the phone accidentally forgot to pay for me at the table.
If you check out here, you can also help you with your luggage for a day. I just put my luggage and go to the Pike Market to see what else I want to eat.
The bathroom was big and clean, and it was very big compared to the youth hotel I went to.
This is also my friend who lived and recommended it to me. The location is the biggest selling point. The old part of the room does not have much impact on me who only stayed for two nights. However, in order to be fair, I still have to buckle. Last minute, breakfast is not rich but enough to eat, leave some stomach to the Pike market to eat it!
I didn t stay here but stored my luggage, and the girl who is working there in the morning shift took $10 for one bag Hanged with tent, she said tent is bag too, and I put them like what appear in this photo. Seriously?! I felt bad because of that and it was the first impression I get from Seattle ,but thanks God not all Seattle people have that face !
Easy check-in, awesome staff, great social place to stay for a budget stay!
My favorite hostel so far. Great location, privacy curtains, fans, lights and storage for each person.
Exceptional staff, Management can't be beat! Location is a dream, areas are loungy, clean, and inviting. Just a top Shelf experience.
Really awesome hostel in downtown Seattle. The hosts are really friendly and try to make the environment very accommodating.
Lot of everyday tours around the city, once/twice a week free , free on Sunday, etc. This is worth every penny.
Great affordable place to stay in Seattle, it is right in the heart of downtown steps away from Pike market and makes it easy to walk all around town. Most nights they have some sort of activity for the guests including free beer. Only place I can see for improvement is offering more basics like towels and soap that you have to rent from them at an additional fee.
Really helpful front desk with clean rooms, common area, and showers. Great location next to Pike's Place and has extremely friendly guests
Ease, kindness and amazingly...exclusive and convenient. Come as you are and spend quiet time, or do some reasoning conversatin with some folks from, who knows where? You'll certainly find out after a smile, good morning and perhaps a great cup of coffee and hearty Continental Breakfast. The Green Tortoise is your stay when your away...terripin' in Seattle.
Cheers to you, folks!
Feels like a college dorm, exciting at times. Could definitely be cooler at night.
Staff was friendly, room was clean, breakfast was included. Plenty of activities offered. There are also bikes available to rent.
Great hostel. Located centrally, delicious breakfast and great staff. I also loved my room
Serviceable rooms, accommodating staff, great location and the price is right.
Sat. Sept. 2, 2018.
I'm from Victoria, BC and I came to Seattle for a few nights. My 1st night was at the Green Tortoise Hostel & it was wonderful. I'm 64 and had a lower bunk in a room with 5 other women.
It's a very social place, very clean and organized. I slept well and was welcomed with a delicious inclusive breakfast in the morning. I think the choice of music was "Chill" which began to grow on me. The location is central in the Pike Place Market and within walking distance of anywhere in downtown Seattle.
The staff of course are what really makes for a stellar experience for anyone who happens to drop by this wonderful home away from home.

Nice hostel, stayed here for a night, no issues. Decent variety of breakfast in the morning as well! They were happy to store my luggage for the next day while I explored the city.
Awesome vibe, perfect location, friendly staff, I would give it 5 stars but unfortunately I left with more bed bug bites than I would like to admit.
Its a relatively very cheap hostel at a very good location in Seattle. But there was some unpleasant smell inside the hostel. I stayed there for one night so couldn't get a chance to interact with anybody. The guy at the front desk was friendly. One can get a small pack of toothpaste there for $1. If you want to save money for your stay while visiting Seattle, this hostel might be a very good option.<Edited version>
>>The previous review was made for another different hostel in Vancouver, mistakenly given to this hostel.
Good value - comfortable beds, decent breakfast, relaxed atmosphere.
- would have given 5 stars were it not for BED BUGS :( I seem to be the second person indicating this in a review - I also mailed the property, hope it gets handled (did not get a reply so far - a week passed)
- good breakfast (oats, cereal, toast, peanut butter and jam, fruit, eggs, ...)
- friendly staff
- excellent location !!!!
- safe area and lots of bars/eateries/breakfast places nearby
- quiet at night
- wifi didn't work (though my room was only a few meters from reception) but there is another free network available
Great hostel! Friendly people! Extravagant showers!^^ Superb location!
I love this place but they lied to me on the phone about the rates.
One of the best, most fun hostels I've ever stayed in.
I have been to hostels all over the world and this is by far the best for your buck!
No other place to pick up a nice and beautiful salmon. Pike Market.
A relatively large family travel, although the comfort is good, but the night is very noisy without headphones or earplugs can not sleep, plus personal reasons do not like it.
Very clean, friendly, amazing vibe, great events, free beer after 9 with key and ID
It s a lovely hostel with good amenities, almost daily activities. Free breakfast is a bonus. Social atmosphere is generally good. Rooms are spacious. Toilet can be a little more clean or have a bath Mats.
This is my first stay at a hostle, and it was great! The green tortoise is clean, and there are ample bathrooms. But the facilities aren't the reason to stay, the unique services are. My first night they had free beer from 7 until the keg was empty (too soo!), the next night there was spaghetti made for the guests. They also offer walking tours of seattle, and movies.
This is one of the best hostels in the world. Period.
This place is actually pretty great... It clean and as party or as restful and quiet as you need it to be...
Slightly old and cramped rooms. Staff are pretty unhelpful at times.
First time staying at a hostel in USA. It did not disappoint! Amazing people and free food!
Great place to stay everyone is so nice and so helpful
Literally the best place I've ever stayed at, the Green Tortoise Hostel, located downtown Seattle on Pike Street next to Seattles Best Coffee, is marked only by a door with the name, sandwiched between them and a Vietnamese Pho shop.
Pros:
I've met more awesome people passing through the hostel than ever before.
The price is really affordable.
Free breakfast every day, free dinner 3 days a week.
Amenities, like infinite free towels for $1, locks for $5 for the cubbies under the beds, coin laundry and laundry soap, a tv and lounge, mini laptops for anyones use, vending machines, and so much more.
Almost every staff member goes out of their way to be helpful and personable.
Opportunities for work trade to stay if set up in advance.
Great location across from Pike's Place market.
The only con:
The wifi is very spotty and doesn't function much of the time. Could probably be fixed if the routers were reconfigured.
Highly recommended, if not for the wifi I would give it a 6/5
I did not expected that. However the localisation is perfect.
Nice Hostel, clean, with huge private bathrooms. Only issue I had was that I rented a car for this trip, and their website didn't say anything about a lack of parking nearby. The only place close is a parking structure, which you pay $21 a day (after the Tortoise authorizes your ticket for $5 off). Plus, the parking structure isn't open early in the morning, so you're kinda out of luck if you need to get somewhere for an appointment or work interview.
Very nice and comfortable. Breakfast was amazing. Staff was friendly and helpful
Hands down the best hostel I ve stayed in. Amazing location, good price, friendly staff, and clean rooms and bathrooms. The ONLY issue I have is the guy at the front desk told us that they only wash their pillow cases once a week? Which I found to be pretty gross... blankets, sure, but pillow cases, ehhh... although the signs around the place seem to indicate otherwise so I m hoping he just misspoke.
The staff was friendly. I'm not quite used to shared accommodations, or no air conditioning, but if you want local feel and input it's a great place to stay. They have activities scheduled, tours, even pub crawls.
Clean, well upkept, great staff. Free breakfast was a great value. Showers look new and are private.
It's not bad considering the price compared to the location. However, it should be noted that there are many abacus, there are many homeless people in the vicinity, and breakfast has nothing to eat. Especially, I do not think Japanese female workers do not think their pronunciation is strange, and they answered wrongly. If I ask if I would like to stay again, if I make a lot of money in Korea and go to Seattle the next time, I will stay at the hotel for at least 4 star.
AWESOME! Fantastic location with everything you need across the street at Pike Public Market: seafood, produce, ice creameries and bakeries. Can cook inexpensive meals in the well stocked kitchen. They provide fresh eggs, fruit, cereal and toast in the mornings and free beer and emtertainment some evenings. Took their free walking tour; very informative. Will definitely return!
