Great service, great people, awesome price. I honestly have no complaints, slept well and enjoyed the morning breakfast. I will definitely be coming back!
Great service, great people, awesome price. I honestly have no complaints, slept well and enjoyed the morning breakfast. I will definitely be coming back!
Loved the place. Good location. In front of Pike Market place. So you can walk down. Its a budget stay hostel. Rooms are clean . Good breakfast. Don't have elevators so you need to carry your luggage.
It's a very nice place, good service, breakfast included, maybe the price is a bit high, but it's worth it
Everything a hostel should be. Great staff, free food, ideas for stuff to do, cheap, great common area, indoor spot for smokers, fun feel.
One of the better hostels I've stayed in. Nice people and staff. Rooms and bathrooms are clean and not too crowded. They have activities to meet people and it's In a very central location to go out and see Seattle. Would recommend.
I love this hostel! Better and cleaner than most hotels. Right in front of public market. It s in a great location. The beds were comfortable and the bathrooms clean. It has a great view from the dinning area. They hold your luggage for free after checking out. Blacks away from the train that takes you to the space needle.
I plan on staying here everytime I visit seattle. Rooms are bunk style and about three to a room so that totals six beds per room. Go with a group you trust and share a room. They lease towels and locks for the lockers, I needed a towel but I kept a good rapport with my bunk mates and didn't need to lease a lock for my locker. People from all over the world stayed here. It was genuinely an excellent experience to stay here.
Sadly it's been two years since I've been to the green tortoise and I wish I could have gone back a lot sooner but plans keep falling thru.. when I went there 2 years ago I was by myself it was the first time I'd stayed in a hostel and I was super excited and super nervous the people at the desk really friendly they let me put my backpack in a common storage area up front with a tag so I can go walk around town for a little bit and when I came back and got checked in they actually took me up to the room and explained some of the basic rules about trying to be respectful of others who might be sleeping at night and in the morning and helped me get acquainted with the lockers under the bunk beds etcetera. The first night was interesting because by the time I came back to bed everyone was asleep but thankfully I was prepared and crawled up my bunk in the dark and went swiftly to bed. The next morning I went down to check out the breakfast selection and it was so cool how they had it set up you could fry or scramble your own egg and they had toast and other things of course and when you're done you put your plate in a dishwasher rack. I met a really cool person from California while cooking and eating breakfast. At the time I was living in Virginia and planning on moving out here to the Washington Oregon area. Now that I do live out here I plan to go back again. The best part is the first thing you see on your left when you walk out the door is Pike's Market. The only thing I would suggest is that everyone who checks in should be given a small memo card that says "do not turn the lights on at 4 in the morning while you are getting ready to go to the airport, please take your stuff into the bathroom and use that mirror to put your makeup on instead". Lol let's just say there were two girls that didn't understand hostel eddiquet.
Good location, expensive, rooms are small and weird with no shelves, bathrooms are small and weird with no shelves, breakfast is ok
I have met some really cool people at the green tortoise and the location couldn't get better. Loved my stay and will return if I ever visit Seattle again.
You just have to check it out for yourself . It's one of the cooler hostiles I've stayed at.
Location is very close to the pike place Market. a little bit hard to find. Not recommend to drive there, but easy to access public transportation.
The Green Tortoise is one of the nicest hostels I've ever visited. Every day the rooms are cleaned thoroughly and if ever I wanted to change bed sheets, or my towel, they were perfectly open to it.
It's a wonderful place to meet new people, and it feels like you are traveling in a different country while being in the USA.
Thanks for the great experience.
Stayed for a few nights a couple of years back. Join the hostel pub crawl (if it's still a thing) and get a great americano next-door at Seattle Coffee Works. Would stay again.
Best location one could ask for. Good service and excellent opportunities to make friends
It is a great place to be in, you can cook ur own food, there is a lot of kitchen utensils to use however u just need to wash ur place after using them, also they provide free breakgast. But I recomended get a lock from the desk or bring ur own since a baggage was stolen cuz the lady left it on the floor next to her bed.
Right in front of the pike place! Good location and value overall. They have free DIY breakfast and sometimes free dinner.
I loved it here! The people at the front desk were friendly, helpful, and gave me a ton of suggestions about what to do around the city. The location is amazing, and is worth sharing a room with 7 other people for that price. Everything is very clean, you get free breakfast and coffee in the morning. 10/10 would stay again.
Odd place, but friendly folks. Centrally located in Seattle.
Where bliss meets harmony, the Green Tortoise is the place to be.
Perfect location, with comfortable accommodations. An ideal place to meet fellow travelers.
Safe & clean hostel in the center of Seattle. Kind of pricey, but way worth it. They feed you breakfast every morning and dinner most nights. Staff is friendly and informative.
Very nice accommodations and the location is perfect
The location is excellent, low cost and appropriate security.
Great location, wonderful atmosphere. I stayed in their San Francisco location several years ago, also very nice. Loads of local info, good suggestions. Easy access via Link rail to/from SeaTac airport.
My first hostel and a great experience. A yummy, simple breakfast. Access to kitchen and refrigerator. Comfortable beds with storage beneath. Other vacationers were quiet and kind. Front desk helpful. Absolutely amazing location.
So welcoming and comfy, lived the vibe. The location is amazing also!!!
The location was great - super convenient. The price was reasonable for the area. The facilities were fine, although not very accessible. The place seemed clean. There were lots of bathrooms that were semi-private, single stall with toilet, sink, and shower. Water pressure in the showers was pretty terrible, so it took forever to rinse off, and the water wasn't always very hot. I only partook in one of the free meals - the food was good, but there was not enough seating and the line for food was horrendous.
To be honest, it had kind of a frat-house/college dorm feel... so if you're into that, great. If not, well... lets just say that even with ear plugs, I was kept up into the wee hours of the morning multiple nights due to loud, drunken folks returning from pub crawls, and music blasting in the common room. I get that they try to provide a unique, social hostel experience, but it was a bit excessive and disrespectful at times of those who are trying to sleep.
I also found it really unnerving that housekeeping staff would make rounds multiple times a day and would just knock once then open the door right away. At least twice, I had a staff member barge into the room after I said "No" or "Just a minute". After the first couple nights, I started putting the chair under the door handle when I was in the room. I paid extra for a private room because I wanted privacy. When there is no was to secondary lock the doors from the inside and no "Do Not Disturb" signs, its impossible to truly have privacy. And I know, I shouldn't really expect much better at a hostel... but I've been to hostels that have alternate options for maintaining privacy in private rooms.
The Green Tortoise is a great place to stay if you're looking for cheap stay with no frills located right next to Pike Place Market. The staff here are polite and helpful. The bathroom was well stocked and clean, as was my room.
Free tacos, craft beer, helpful staff. Top affordable spot near market
Great place to stay. Super friendly staff! I left an important folder at the Hostel and they mailed it out to me. Thank you
Professional staff and service. I will come again If i get the chance to visit here as business purpose!!
I've had the pleasure of staying at GT for many years now, all the way back to when they were located on 2nd Ave. Allways a cool, clean and safe space to be while visiting Seattle. Thanx !
Nice place, clean rooms and bathrooms, good service and good breakfast
ALWAYS exceptional!!!!! Thank you GREEN TORTOISE!!!!!!!
Easily the best hostel I've ever stayed at. Surprisingly comfortable beds with privacy screens all the way around. Each bed has its own outlets, light and fan so you can charge your devices and read without bothering other guests in the room. Under the beds are large lockers, easily big enough to fit my massive backpack. However, I did luck out and get a queen bed, the lockers under the twins may not have worked. The staff was well informed and extremely helpful and the wifi actually worked. The kitchen is large and well stocked with plenty of refrigerators to store food, though I wouldn't recommend stocking more than a couple of days worth at a time in consideration of others. Bikes are available for rent at a fair price and there's almost always a tour or pub crawl you can join at a discount or free. Restrooms are plentiful and private, each with its own shower. To top it all off, it's right across the street from Pike Market! There may be better hostels, but I haven't found them.
Cheap. The location is excellent. The staff is helpful. They have lists of what to do in Seattle and sell tickets with discounts.
It seems to be the most famous hostel in Seattle. Perfect for a backpacking trip. I'm good at laundry too.
Two minutes from pike's market. Nothing fancy, clean and sufficient if you don't mind hostels and you're not going to be spending a lot of time hanging out in your room. Private locking bathrooms.
Super conveniently located. They'll hold your luggage before/after you check in/out if you're a guest. If you forgot a lock, toothbrush, toothpaste, etc they sell it at the front desk.
Staff is friendly & helpful, accommodations are clean & comfortable, located on Pike Street next to Pike Market, free breakfast, activities to participate in if you choose to, eclectic mix of fellow hostel guests from around the world, the price can't be beat.
Nicely located, but quality is not that good. It gets incredibly hot and smelly for some reason. Every bed has a fan, but mine was loosely hanging from the ceiling with lost screws missing. Did not try the food as I had breakfast across the street at Starbucks every morning.
Located just in front of Pike Place Market. Convenient to visit. Depending on the location of the room, it is very loud if you are on the street. There is a lobby on the second floor and no elbe. There is a fan between the windows. Thanks to the smell coming into the gap between them. I have used 4/8 person room, but even if there is no person in 8 person room, it was very hot & it is difficult to go through people when carrier is narrow. The sink room is inside the four-person room. Free luggage storage. Towels 1 Euro (shower towel). Carriers are locked in the bed on the floor, so lock is required. (1 euro for rent) Shower room + toilet is on the floor. Only hand cleaner available.
Lets just say this Hostel is way worth the price. Its located in the heart of Seattle just a walk away from the Market. The staff was super friendly and always checked in with us. I was personally a huge fan of the smoking room to enjoy that Washington bud! Its a good price for what you get and well worth it if you book ahead of time.
This place was great, the rooms were consistently clean, and the staff was friendly. There were tons of interesting travelings to speak with, daily events which they hosted, even if I went there with no plans this would have been plenty to keep me entertained throughout my stay. The only thing which held this back from 5 stars was the lack of water pressure in the shower.
Staff are very nice and location is unbeatable. Beds are clean and the curtains provide you sufficient privacy. Wash/shower rooms are shared but separate, which means you occupy the whole room when using and won t be disturbed and there s always vacancy ones(sometimes upstairs).
Good reasonable priced rooms, good location, very clean. The hostel runs activities like walking tours that are very good.
Wonderful staff, clean rooms, and the breakfast was delicious :) highly recommend if your looking for a location a stones throw away from Pike Place.
This was my first time staying here. My first impressions were that it was very homey. The lady at the front desk must've been new and was being assisted by someone else. She checked me in, told me the house rules, and took me to my room. She was very nice, Nana I think her name was. The room was nice and airy. The one guy I met in the room was nice to chat with. Coincidentally he was from the same area I am from. The amenities were nice with a fan and light with each bed. There was ample room for my bags underneath the bed in the storage area that I was about to lock. The second night was a little more noisy as the guy next to me, not the same one I mentioned earlier, he had company in his room. 3 guys in one bed. The other 2 had room keys for my room so not sure if they had the other 2 beds that were empty or what but I felt more unsafe knowing there were more people in the room that I originally had seen. But surprisingly they kept quiet and my stuff was still safe underneath.
Having the kitchen available was nice but I didn't use it much. I would stay there again but try to be more social next time.
Good hostel but a little of smelling. So it's not bad.
Right next to the Pike Street Market, 15 minute walk to the conference center. Staff is friendly, everything is pretty clean. Nothing too fancy but I enjoyed my stay.
Very dorm-like. You get what you pay for! It's definitely cramped in the rooms, but there are private bathrooms, which is nice - except at times you have to wait in lines and sometimes they do smell. The breakfast wasn't too great, but hey, it's free. The staff were fairly helpful and had pretty nice lists of suggestions for things to do in the area. The place is definitely in need of some upgrades, though.
Cozy, top location, sometimes a bit too much street noise at night but otherwise super! Nice atmosphere!
The location is great and there's plenty of social activities with the other people staying, but the room is small and not enough bathrooms.
First timer to a hostel and I have to say it was a pretty pleasant experience. It's right next to Pike place market, and super affordable.
Great place to stay if you're a lone young traveler on a budget.
My best friend and I stayed there for four nights in a female dorm room and it was great ! Very clean, good breakfast, nice common areas to hang out and socialize. What I liked most about it was the daily activities and fun that were organized, this is how we got to go on a really great pub crawl, watch the fireworks at a great location for the 4th of July and visit Fremont :-) Would recommend it to anyone looking for a sociable and fun time in Seattle !
Super friendly staff, special shout-out to Joe!!
(one guy was a little zoned out and unhelpful but google bridged the gap to figure out the correct walking tour timing).
Rooms were clean and the free breakfast was great! Would stay here again for sure!
Biggest draw back was that the place felt a little dated but that was easy enough to get past.
First time staying at this hotel.. i found it for a great price on expedia.. very modern hotel located in koreatown.. this hotel is extremely clean and comfortable.. everything is new, parking is free and the staff is beyond friendly.. I definitely recommend this hotel for single or couple stays it is a bit small but accommodating and the bathroom is well lit with a rainfall shower head.!
Hands down this is the best non-party hostel I've ever been to. Very helpful staff, plenty of activities to do every night, rooms were tidy, had sturdy bunk beds and big floor lockers, and each bed had a fan, curtains and a lamp.
Since it's in such a great location right next to Pike Place Market, there will be a bit of street noise. The bathrooms can be a little messy at times (especially in the weekend), but otherwise it is generally is well-kept and clean.
I would say most of the guests I've seen are around 30ish; there was a pretty big age range if that matters to you, from 25 to 50. The way the common area is set up doesn't easily make socialising possible, so try to go to some events set up in the evening to make friends!
One of the most amazing experiences I've ever had. I stayed here for 6 days and absolutely loved it. Staff was very friendly and helpful and I met a lot of great people on the tours or just sitting down for breakfast in the morning.
The staff was friendly and very friendly. The hotel is clean, too, and there was nothing uncomfortable while staying in a four-person room for three days.
Happy people and admiring the traditional activities
Went on my first pub crawl EVER! Staff was excellent. Met so many wonderful people from around the World. We started with Karaoke, then we went to Capitol Hill. The fabulous connections and dancing fearlessly made my night. The free breakfast was sweet and simple. The STAFF, THE STAFF! Shout out to THE STAFF! The location is prime, perfect, and ideal. The showers are clean. I bunked in an all female room which was super quiet. My room had a view of pike place market. The lockers made me feel safe and protected. I originally booked a hostel to get over my first experience which was terrible. I m so happy I picked Green Tortoise Hostel. It s been life changing! Slowly shedding my shell. Was wonderful to meet people around the globe. Will definitely be coming back again. Already talking about booking again with my friends later this year!!!!!! Yassssss
Pretty clean hostel. Great location and I like that they organize activities daily
Ideal location. Park at west end garage and walk to the market or the 5th Avenue or the monorail.
We got a private room, which meant we have 4 beds to ourselves. There's a sink in our room, but the restrooms+shower is in the hallway...shared with other tenants. There's free breakfast, and I heard there's occasional free dinners
Nice place. Good location! Clean! Great staff. I was visiting friends again in my beloved city of Seattle. Some rooms are better than the other!..
Pros: friendly people, each bed had privacy curtains, updated bathrooms, affordable, including its additional services, tours, great housekeeping, industrial kitchen, free breakfast, located right across the street from pikes place market, target is right around the corner, Walgreens is also similarly close, brand name clothing stores and such about 5 blocks away by foot...
Cons: the smell of cigarettes and similar is very much present in the common areas, but at least in the bedroom where I stayed at (FM only 4 bed) it wasn't present.
It is very nice place. Friendly staff and people there. There is kitchen so you also cook your stuff . I love that part. Location is the best right in the center. Everything is walking distance. I mean most of the major attractions not all of them . Highly recommended
Great location! Rooms are just meh. Friendly staff :)
Very nice! Just bare in mind that you're sharing a room with another 5 people. But for just the night I was in the city was a great price. Perfect location with walkable access to all the attractions! Go soon. It might close due to a new construction project in 2019. Nice breakfast! Thanks guys!
This was a pleasant surprise! Having never stayed in a hostel I was worried. But as a solo female traveler this was ideal. It's in the best location, right across from pike place market, which is massive and you need a couple days to really enjoy.
It's in walking distance of Westlake center train station and monorail. So convenient! Only 1 stop from space needle, chihully glass garden, and museum of pop culture -- which i highly recommend.
I stayed in female dorms. It should be noted this means you're in the room with women only but there are guys on your floor and using the bathrooms. So just note that. I was a bit taken aback by that. But the individual baths were good. I just say take a shower right after they clean it at night. That will mean you avoid both the mess of others and morning rush. I had to wait a while for free baths in the morning. Never at night.
Love that they offer tours and free dinner. It makes it easy for the lone n budget conscious traveler. I didn't get to join but there were walking tours and pub crawls as well as karaoke and movies.
Target is right next door so easy to get food to cook. And plenty if fridge space. You just can't eat in your room. But dining area is cozy.
And most of all staff were friendly and responsive. I only have 4 stars because you had to rent just about everything incl bath towel and lock for your luggage. Also it was super cold at night and not nearly enough blankets or heating option. Note: there are stairs to climb as well. The review who warned me was very helpful so I was mentally prepared. But it was a lot to climb with luggage.
That said...overall I'd stay here again in heartbeat! Seattle is expensive so saving on lodging made it easier to budget for other fun things.
It does nice place and location, it recommend to here if you plan to have dorm style hotel.
Clean beds with safe storage. It's possible to have a shared room or rent a whole room for your family. The location can't be beat. The view from the breakfast room looks right out over the market. There's a massage chair in the corner I could easily spend an hour in. Unfortunately, I was able to go on any of their tours but have only heard good things. The breakfast was perfect start to my day.
Excellent hostel in the most convenient location ever! If I'm ever in Seattle again I'll definitely stay here.
Vert rude and condescending people who work there. They changed my reservation to 1 night instead of the whole week I booked. Also smells like pee in the hallway to the rooms. Beautiful property. Not worth the price though.
A very good youth hostel in downtown Seattle, within 10 minutes of walking distance to nearby attractions. The interior of the room is also simple, the space is ordinary, four beds and one hand basin, the bathroom is shared, all showers do not have a bathtub, it is recommended to bring toiletries, there are some shower gel and shampoo left by some travelers. The bed was still lying, but the quilt didn't know if it was washed, or it was originally placed in the cupboard, and it smelled like wood. At the end of June, the temperature in the evening and the morning was still quite low. I just fell asleep at the window and could hear the weak pedestrians and the sound of the seagulls. If you are traveling with four people, you can ask for the same room at the time of booking.
Wanted to love my first hostel experience. Loved the staff..ecclectic and outgoing. Great free breakfast offering..cooked my own eggs each morning. Hallway and stair areas smelled like dirty clothes. My room did not have that odor, gratefully Room next to mine had to be fumigated for bed bugs...ugh. the hallway area smelled for several hours after that was done! Last of three nights at 150 a.m. I was woken by someone in the room touching me. I was startled, and she rushed out of the room. She appeared to have been rummaging through my friends belongings. She came back into the room five minutes later and I turned on my phone light to see what was going on and she walked out again after dropping my friend's towel on the ground. I woke my friend who determined nothing was missing, but there was now a camera case amongst my freind's things that didn't belong. I went down to front desk who reviewed the security tape and was assured this woman belonged in the room. Awoken a third time by her entry and she was standing right by my bed when i turned th light on so I asked can I help you and she said I am just going to go to bed now, which she did. I realized I had had a 20 minute conversation with her in the common area two days ago. Took me forever to go back to sleep due to all this disruptive activity. I understand this is a hostel and it is a shared room space. This was just too bizarre. She never attempted to apologize, even saw her in the morning. Kind of put a damper on the end of my trip! Loved Joe the guide for the free walking trip..went twice!
Very convenient central location for tourists. Very affordable and friendly
Great location, great staff, great rooms. Everything is great. Not my first time here and I would 100% recommend.
