Showing my daughter all the animals up close is such an amazing experience. She loved watching the elephants. It was a fun day at LA zoo. And there are free car charging stations.

The lights and laser displays were beautiful. This was a wonderful event to take my family and out of state guests.
Beautiful, definitely a must-see & bring your kids!
This is an old school zoo. While the inclosures could use some updating, the zoo staff is very knowledgeable and kind. The zoo keepers all know their stuff and the animals were in good health. We did the hippo experience and it was great. A dream come true for my son.
Good experience. The food was great and the light were very nice. Thought there would be more animals but over all good experience.
Nice staff, kept very clean and beautiful grounds. However, please explain the constant annoyance of bees. They just bombarded me and my daughter to the point she started crying. They're around all the trash cans...its horrible. Thank god they dont sting but its too much and extremely distracting. Why sale soda with no tops if its known bees will surround you to the point you have to leave area for safety. Scary at times...I hope this review is read and responded too...
It was really Kool,I visited some of my cousins there
The zoo is very large and parking lot wasn't too crowded. The staff are really nice.
My son loves the animals at the zoo. We come here at least twice a month. I recommend making it there to enjoy the Dinosaur adventure, it's most definitely worth the extra $5
I only go there to contribute to animals. Zoo itself is not very good.
Its Huge!! It took me 5 hrs to walk all over the place!! But I love it!!
Nice to go for a walk, but many exhibits closed. Others had animals hidden or asleep somewhere. Couldn't see many animals as we wanted. Love l.a. zoo but today I was disappointed.
It was great loved all the animals and landscape. Was amazing
Get the family pass and make it a every other week outing/hike with the family. You can bring your own food so pack up and enjoy walk and play with the kids at play park inside the zoo right after seeing the bird show.
Way more reasonable prices than the San Diego zoo. Shorter distance from my house too. The animals seemed sad and weren't doing much and some exhibits were just plan depressing... But overall the staff and location were good.
Went during a weekday there seemed to be quite a few empty locations were there would normally have animals
Is so relaxed and fun at the same time, people are so friendly
The LA zoo is fantastic on many levels. it's a working zoo with many success stories. There are always i.provements being made. The hilly terrain makes walking the zoo a great form of exercise. Special tours for members are a real treat, and memberships are affordable.
Great way to get away from the city, traffic and la stress!
I loved the zoo, very funny, I'm eager to see the light show !!
Very welcoming to tourists and service dogs. Great people and great animals. I took lots of fun pictures. Thank you.
On vacation in LA, me and my girlfriend decided to visit the zoo for the day. The admission price is very reasonable and borderline cheap for what you get; the zoo is huge! There are all sorts of different animals and exhibits, and the overall atmosphere is very enjoyable. I'm only deducting a star because the zoo closed at 5pm, which seems kind of early to me. We actually missed about a quarter of the zoo (including the kangaroos) since everything closed up so early. I would definitely recommend checking it out, but make sure you get there early if you want to see everything.
Sad animals. Lots of cells. We even met a magpie in a cage. It's sad. Not happy. We expected the best.
This place is great but at Christmas you will be surprised with the Christmas lights
I was just there again yesterday for my third visit; my first in 2014! The name says it all! In Spanish - Descanso means "rest." This is the place to go alone, when you want to take some time out for yourself & relax. It is a place of thinking; of reflective mediation on your current life-stage & the guidance you need from the Divine... If you've had a difficult work week or a "fierce storm is raging over you," this is the place to be... As Emily Bronte in her famous British novel Jane Eyre would echo: it's for the "heart-weary and soul-withered..."
Went there with a friend who has a Membership. On the day we went there were not a lot of animals out, so it could have been the time of day. It's a nicely organized zoo with a good layout and large playground area for the young ones. Plenty of bathrooms scattered throughout and very manageable place. Although there was a ton of walking and things to see, the young children could get through the entire place basically. Nice place, good onsite food spots with yummy food choices. Varied animal species and there was a fun game of animal sign spotting that garnered a rubber bracelet in the end. Get your card upon entry! Enjoyable and very pleasant day for all who entered in our party... ; )
Fun place to visit with the family. Lots to do for the kids!
Gladys Porter zoo, San Antonio zoo are way way better.
We had a blast, they are really doing their part to keep us socially distanced, most of the animals are there and it's a great day trip with hiking trails near by.
Most of the activities are closed due to the pandemic and they do not have some animals such as lions, tigers, hippos, the truth is not recommended.
It has security and it is a very nice place to go to spend time with family
Great zoo but the layout is not conducive to seeing everything easily in a simple visit. Great discounts for members of other zoos.
Nice place. Was worth getting a family annual pass.
Who doesn't enjoy the zoo... my son loves it and so do I. Not interesting enough to go more than twice a year, but when we do go we have so much fun.
It is okay. I would not say it is a highlight of LA. If you are a tourist I would not bother unless you have never been to a Zoo in your life.
We love spending time at this zoo. The animals are given plenty of space and are often very active. The merchandise is very overpriced, but the food is great, especially the pizza and beer. We love all the snack stands and animal meet and greets. We even had one of our child's birthday parties here and it was amazing!
It's a great place to spend the day. Lots of fun facts. Very quite on the weekday. Had a blast.
Expect long walks but kids will have a great time. Go early to see the different shows.
I love the L.A. Zoo! They've improved the elephant's habitat, added some new exhibits, but have retained the charm of the zoo I've been visiting for 50 years!
Tickets are bought with a designated time. Dont let the line fool you though.nit goes by very quick. It's well worth going because it is not crowded and all animals are able to be seen. However, some attractions are closed. A few quick stop food places are open. Vending machines are not selling items. Gift shops are open but you are unable to enter and must shop from outside the store. I enjoyed my time there a lot
We bought the family pack for about $160, 3 adults and I dont remember how many children. So worth it, you get 2 free guest passes and free rides on the train. Anyhow this is a great place to come, I love the zoo.
Nice place to see if you live in the la area one every 6 months or so. Takes about 6 hours to look at everything and 8 if you photograph patiently.
Holy mackerel, $74 for 2 adults and 2 kids. They start charging starting age 2 -$16 each. Zoo is nice and what is really attractive is how close you can get to the animals. Nice, clean and friendly. I would try avoiding the crowd by going early as when we left at 12.30, is was getting packed.
Christmas lights at the zoo. If you get tickets for the last session beware you only get two hours. Parking is bad at this point because the first session of people are still in the zoo and get to stay for both sessions. So if you decide to go my suggestion would be to go to the first session on the weekend so you get at least 4 hours instead of two considering it took about 30 or so minutes to get into the parking then another 15 to 20 minutes to wait for someone to pull out from the first session to park. Additionally, some areas the close done 15 minutes before closing at 10 pm. My session started at 8. I was at the zoo drive exit at 8:05 but it took 30 minutes or so to get to parking lot, then another 20 minutes to find a place to park and walk to gate it's now approximately 8:45 then the shut stuff down 15 minutes to 10. So at this point we only had an hour in the park. My suggestion would be to arrive by 7 for the 8 pm session so at least you get almost 2 hours cause the lane to get in is long but moved somewhat fast.
LA Zoo Lights were just okay. Honestly, the website makes it seem like much more than it is! The entrance with all the lights looked great, but it didn't keep that up throughout the park. The light show was mediocre. I would not return for the Zoo lights again, Unless they really step up their game!! Also, hot chocolate was sold every where, but not coffee. Weird! Once we found coffee it was so awful that we thru it out after two sips! It tasted like it has been brewed thru an old sock! Gross! I gave the zoo 3 stars because I enjoyed my time with my family. Our time together made it fun, but the lights are mediocre at best.
Excellent, souvenir shops and food, clean bathrooms
Beautiful Zoo. Very large, be prepared to walk about 5 Miles. Wish they had more concessions.
Side note... They have Rhino souvenirs, but no Rhinos to see at the zoo...
Great place for the kids and lots of animals to see. Had a play area too for kids.
Zoo has instituted significant covid measures! Good for them.
love goung to the L.A. Zoo, kids love the petting zoo. But food is on the pricey side. Best to take your own lunch and eat at the picnic table area.
Love what they've done with the Los Angeles zoo. Great place to spend time with the kids. Able to get plenty of exercise walking my son around.
Such a fun time to go with to experience! So many animals, parking is relatively easy and though there's a lot of people it's still an excellent experience!
Wow, long time since I have been back. Got to see some animals & learn about some new ones!
Beautiful place. Large and with beautiful green areas to enjoy a snack and play a little with your children while you rest a little while.
Love this zoo, it s small but they have a NICE variety.
this was one of the best zoos i've ever been to. its very easy to navigate, and the theming is cool too.
Perfect place to hang out with curious little ones. Family membership totally worth it!
Really great zoo, love coming here. Its really nice and shaded, so walking around all day is very pleasant.
It's a zoo, not much else to say... Take comfy shoes because there's lots of walking . Long story short is that the place is nice, it has lots of interesting animals.. and a nice alternative to just staying at home.
You can take food, so make sure you take some water for sure... But if not the food inside is good. My son loves coming here and feeding the giraffes. Can't see how you can have a bad time here... Now if you don't like caged animals than don't come but In the end you make this park to what you want it to be.. if you are there to have fun and learn you will... If your set out to have a bad day... You probably will too.
Quick tips
Animals start going in around 4, so plan your day... This is definitely not the park you want to show up late.
Make a list of what animals you want to see first , because you might have to come back later on when they are more active instead of hiding.
Everything is very well cared for and the animals are very cute.
