This is one of the favorite places to visit for our family. The zoo features a petting area where kids can groom the friendly goats there. So much fun.
Our kid enjoyed the Merry Go Round. It features a great variety of animals to ride on. The staff is friendly. The ticket is $3. Its not cheap but hey it benefits the zoo animals.
Another favorite was the Cambodian Pavilion. Its a great place to rest and watch Asian elephants. We are members of the zoo thanks to our generous uncle.

Update on 6/21/20:
The Zoo is still closed due to Covid19. We miss it very much.

Update on 11/13/20:
The Zoo reopened a while ago. It graciously extended our 1 year membership beyond the 1 year mark due to Covid19.
Entrance tickets are free for members. Advance reservation is required online due to Covid19. Member tickets tend to sell out quickly though. I recommend booking 1-2 months in advance. It is also worthwhile to call the membership hotline and ask for tickets for the same week. The Reps tend to be helpful.

Thank you and cudos to the staff that work so tirelessly during the Covid19 pandemic.

Spent the day at the Los Angeles Zoo. Parking and ticketing was a breeze. Employees and volunteers were great, but were difficult to find when in need of help with exact directions to specific enclosures. Some of the restaurants were closed, but the one we found open that we ate at was clean and the food delicious. The gardens are beautiful. It's a great Zoo. Be sure to visit the Orangatans and say hello to Bruno for us!

We went during ZooLights. Its at night so only reptiles and wolves were awake to see but its great fun to have somewhere to wonder around decorated so festively and just ooh and ahh at all the lights. There were reindeer sleeping behind a fence but very close to look at. They had hot choc to purchase for a fun and cozy part of the experience.
Alot less $ than other things to do around town. Bring a blanket or something warm to wear, because its a lovely outside stroll. Oh Santa was there for pics but at an extra fee

The boys had a blast they were able to feed the giraffes and see all their favorite animals. We went early enough to see the animals before they tend to sleep in hard to see places due to the heat.

For the most part the zoo was good. I went a month or so ago and they had a week old baby Hippo! So cute. They also had koala bears, kangaroos, foxes, elephants and an incredible gorilla exhibit. However, the main reason I went to the zoo was to see the lions. They had a beautiful male lion and a lioness. But their exhibit was pathetic. I just felt so bad for them. The lions had a small, flat exhibit with no rocks and very little plants. It was mostly just dirt with a small concrete patch. The water was disgusting. The whole exhibit was surrounded with a rock mural, but not one rock in the exhibit for them to climb.

My family loves the L.A. Zoo. We have annual zoo passes to the Santa Ana Zoo and we get 50% off L.A. Zoo. This zoo is beautiful, not too big, the animals seem to be well taken care of and we can take our own food in. We often take a drive through Griffin Park after we're done with the zoo.

My family bought a year pass and thoroughly enjoyed our visits to the zoo. We were able to go about a dozen times and never tired of seeing different sections of the zoo. We got to witness a wide variety of animal behaviours throughout the year. Kids loved it.

We went for 2nd time , I expected more about the zoo but not, it is very sad we saw the animal barely. all of them look so slow, tired, and unhealthy , the zoo and general is too dry not to much green areas , hope care more about it.

We knew it was raining which we were prepared for. We asked two people of everything was open and the both said yes. Once we got in none of the showtimes or feedings happened because of the rain and the shuttle wasn t running. When I asked for some compensation because of having 6 little kids he said no it s nothing to do with them.

I spent a few hours in this zoo. This zoo is well maintained and very clean. There are a lot of animals, and I have had a wonderful day here. The weather is very hot, but there are not many tourists, we have visited a lot of places... the maintenance work here is really good.

It was a beautiful day to be walking around and seeing amazing creatures. Everything was great until we were leaving. At the exit there was a guy in a cookie monster outfit that told me and my daughter to move aside if we were not gonna pay him to take a picture ... MY ONE YEAR OLD WAS JUST CURIOUS AND LOOKING AT HIM. I dont think people with that type of attitude should be allowed to "work" anywhere near children

Zoo shouldn't be opened if they hardly have any animals to see. At least give half price. They should let people know what animals are available to see when you purchase the tickets. Hardly any and everything on construction. Not the greatest experience.

Not what we expected from a very large city we came from Texas and had an extra day. But we've been in the San Antonio Texas now that's what a zoo should be. Very few animals a lot of closed areas who manages this

I can't begin to express how amazing this place is. At first, I didn't expect much from it, because the entrance doesn't show very much, it almost looks empty. Then as I made my way up the mountain, I found myself stopping constantly to take pictures of the beautiful surroundings, including my girlfriend. We were stopping everywhere to just stand and stare, to take the environment in. We were mezmerized. On a different note, plenty of the animals were asleep, and away where you couldn't see them in their habitats. Although, the ones you could see were cute, or pretty, some even ugly, or alien. This place is perfect for kids, for a date, or for a day to go out and take some pictures. Absolutely a 10/10.

I decided to do LA Zoo over San Diego Zoo because of price. The entry to the zoo was US$12.00 which is inexpensive once you are inside and see the amount of enclosures they have. I spent most of the day wondering around all the enclosures and towards closing, I still had not seen all the animals. The souvenirs are reasonably priced and the overall atmosphere is great. The layout was quiet easy to follow and the availability of the service train was great when you needed to get to the other side of the zoo quickly.

!!Beautiful!!

!!Beautiful!!
Tips: take plenty of water and lunch because if they let you in and enjoy it because at least me and my family took 6 hours to visit it !!

The only Zoo in LA county. This zoo has come a long way. When I was a kid, it was a major dissapointment. Now, I bring my kids frequently. We have a family membership so we come frequently. If you are a family of 4 and up I would recommend just getting the membership. I think it pays for itself if you go twice. It definitely does not beat the San Diego Zoo but my kids still love it. They do a lot of conservation work and I can get behind that. Many argue that the zoo is a sad place that supports animals to be in captivity. But what they don't realize is that many of the animals were rescues and/or were born in captivity and not capable of living in the wild. Zoos have been responsible of bringing back population of endangered animals in many cases. Please support them! :)

Located in Griffith Park. Tons of animals. Lots of walking. Small play park if you have kids. Petting zoo with sheep and goats. The World of Birds show is always entertaining. Big parking lot, but it fills up fast. Come early to avoid crowds. Bring a backpack with food and water so you don't have to rely on overpriced zoo offerings. Don't forget sun screen.

What an amazing experience! I was a bit cynical going into it based on what I had heard from others, but we just LOVED the LA Zoo! The atmosphere was so pleasant, the exhibits were well maintained and the zoo was well cared for. My family and I had a great time. The gorillas were especially captivating. Thanks for the memories!
