What a great hotel. In a prime location. An idyllic piece of history and garden in the heart of Utrecht. Excellent hospitality. Breakfast also super. I do understand why Charles the Fifth liked to stay here;).

Definitely a five star hotel. Impeccable service, friendly staff that really interacts with the guests. Good sized rooms (especially in the main building) with all the mod cons. Breakfast is buffet and a la crate (the eggs Benedictine are to die for). Not cheap but worth it.

A very nice hotel with very friendly staff.

A very nice hotel with very friendly staff.
But there is a big problem and that is breakfast: The service in the breakfast room does not meet the expectations for such a hotel in this price range. No real reception when entering the breakfast room. No coffee service at the table or only when requested. A friendly greeting and instruction is missing. The staff looked confused and there was no concept or management. Every standard hotel offers better service than in Hotel Karel and that was a big disappointment.
Tip: it is imperative to make improvements here if you want to keep up with international hotels.

This five star hotel is located in the middle of Utrecht, on walking distance from the shopping centre. The hotel has a grand style and lots of old treasures are placed in big glass vitrines. The rooms are spacious and parking is available infront of the hotel.
Enjoyable bar in the back, we asked die a wine list. And we found a wonderful Pinot Noir from New Zealand.

Requesting a quote for an event is difficult. I have done my best to write a good application and I have to spend some money for a good event. After request via the website I receive a standard response from an intern within 5 minutes. I do not have the impression that our application was taken very seriously.

It is a nice hotel with prices that seem reasonable. There are different types of rooms. I was in the Roman wing. The room I had was very large but felt also very dated: furniture, lights, bathroom all seemed to have seen better days.
The bedding could also do with a refresh as my bed was very very soft.
The breakfast was nice but I have seen bigger buffets to choose from.
The garden at the center of the hotel is very nice and very relaxing.
The hotel is very near the center, few minutes walk are necessary to get there.

Perfect five star hotel in Utrecht. Also a historic place where Emperor Charles V came to stay to attend the meetings of the Order of the Golden Fleece. The canopy of oak beams in the main building is a historic landmark. You would have a meeting here for fun. Furthermore, two excellent restaurants, beautiful gardens including the closed former officer garden. And many historical details can be seen in the building, including the heartstone of Charles V above the fireplace in the main restaurant.

Grand hotel in a historic building. Limited parking space on site. Friendly service. There are two restaurants, we opted for the cheaper bistro restaurant, which was a bit disappointing. The atmosphere was also cold, the restaurant was almost empty.

Very prestigious luxury hotel with a very traditional design. In our room (Roman wing) a lamp was defective and when using the shaving mirror a fuse jumped. The mattress also had its best time. Breakfast buffet is super extensive and tasty, also a la carte at no extra cost, as well as breakfast in the room. Service always very friendly and helpful. Beautiful location in the middle of the city with free parking.

Unfortunately I cannot say anything about the service and food and drink of this beautiful hotel in the heart of the city of Utrecht, but about the location of the hotel on one of the oldest streets of Utrecht, namely the Springweg on one side and the Geertebolwerk on the other side.
For me, that is the nicest place in the city.
The photo can tell you more about the beautiful location on the inner gardens of the former Military Hospital, but that was a long time ago.

We had the brewery day menu, which means 2 courses for about 35 euros. Fresh food, pleasant surroundings, attentive staff. The preparation is done live, in the room and we see the staff at work. A treat for both eyes and taste buds.

Do not go here without a reservation. There is a distinction between nicely set tables for business lunch and other guests. The bistro menu offers nothing special, just a hamburger, ceasarsalad and the like.

Hotel with a fairytale atmosphere in the center of Utrecht.
The rooms are spacious and well furnished and the bathrooms have both a shower and a bathtub.
The wellness center is a bit small but has everything you need, such as swimming pool, whirlpool, sauna and Turkish bath; Also interesting is the fact that guests are offered bottles of fresh water and fresh fruit.
The small brasserie has typical Dutch furniture, with wood and decorated tiled walls and an open kitchen. The food is great, but the portions are a little generous.
The breakfast is very abundant and full of choices, between salty and sweet.

Fantastic location. Really such a traditional old hotel with grandeur. At 200 meters from the old center. If you look at the room rate and how close you are to the city center, this is an insanely good alternative to Amsterdam.

Lunched in the Brasserie.

Lunched in the Brasserie.
The entire complex is larger than expected. The building, the decor, the atmosphere, it all fits well together and is very pleasant. The brasserie is cozy (especially with the cook in the middle of the restaurant).
The food is certainly not worth 5 stars. With a fairly complicated menu (making a choice is a daunting task), a fairly simple dish is served on the plate. Now the prices are not high, but our expectations are not met, let alone exceeded.
The cheese platter also only has 1 surprising cheese, the rest is standard (and is not in the right order, incidentally) and is much too briefly dressed, here more creativity can really be unleashed.

Simply my best Hotel experience in the Netherlands so far. A quiet and picturesque place at 5 minutes lovely walk of shops, restaurants and cultural must see's. And on top of all, the crew was incredibly kind and helpful. Will be back!

Eaten i.v.m. Christmas dinner company. Nice ambiance and very friendly staff. Parking also fine. We had a 5-course dinner for around 80 people, spread over 10 tables. Each corridor took a fairly long time (7 pm open and 0:30 the last corridor was cleared). Food was fine in itself, but the main course (venison and stew) was very disappointing: it was cold and bland of taste. Tafelgenoot had a vegetarian main dish and only had a few red beets diced with some decoration around it.

The cuisine here is seriously fantastic, and above all very imaginative, food here is really a nice experience. If you don't want to break the bank, have dinner in the bistro. Make a reservation. Note: If someone in your party has a hearing aid, ask when reserving a table in a corner, in the middle of the hall's acoustics otherwise just not ideal.

On Sunday the service at breakfast was slightly less than on the Saturday.
