Grand Hotel Karel V Review

A beautiful piece of peace, luxury and history in the heart of Utrecht.

The hotel has beautiful rooms, wonderful facilities such as the Wellness and fitness center, bicycle rental so that you can discover beautiful Utrecht on beautiful days by bike, good housekeeping who is always willing to make the room spick and span and above all, special friendly staff who are always ready to help the guest.

The restaurant is an experience of its own. You will be seated in a luxuriously decorated refectory or on the terrace with a beautiful view of the enlisted gardens, where you will be served by hospitable and professional staff. This is where the most special and appetizing delicacies come out of the kitchen, led by chef Vito Reekers. A dinner here guarantees an exciting evening.

The Bistro is the ideal place for an excellent lunch and dinner. On beautiful days, they are served outside in the beautiful and relaxing gardens of Grand Hotel Karel V. On other days they serve in the beautiful authentic kitchen of the Bistro where you can experience the preparation of the delicious main dishes right in front of you in the pre-set kitchen. At the bistro there is also the possibility to take a seat on our terrace or in our bar where you can choose from a small menu of dishes, some snacks and an excellent choice of different drinks and cocktails, including the seasonal cocktail offered by the bartenders are being developed.

In short, wherever you take a seat in the hotel, quality is guaranteed.

Beautiful hotel in the center of Utrecht, very elegantly furnished, nice surroundings and park around the hotel, has everything that belongs to the best hotels. I recommend.

I was expecting regular high end dining but found a very surprising menu in a great setting. Definitely worth a return visit.

Went there for diner with an old time friend of mine onlg and did not stay overnight. The place is tres chique and dress code is recommended. I can advise anybody (except vegetarians) to try the deer as a starter. I most certainly will return there.

The guests and visitors to Grand Hotel Karel v must experience that for themselves.

Visited karel V for a business event. Food from the kitchen leaves something to be desired.

- starter big loin. Good in itself, but the drops of sour shall and mustard that came with it were too strong in taste and very predominant. Also, the structure of this agar / jelly-like structure was a bit too firm for my taste.

- main course guinea fowl.
Guinea fowl was a bit on the dry side. Nevertheless. It's also a great piece of fillet. So don't blame them either. It is a pity that the guinea fowl has not been fried properly on the skin.

Conclusion:
Very hospitable. There is still some gains to be made in the culinary field.

Restaurant is of very high quality! Good service, good wine. Was very impressed with the starter that tastes like Broodje Mario. Well known for every Utrecht court

The hotel is beautiful, the location perfect, you are in the center in 2 minutes. The staff are friendly. We had made a mistake with our dinner reservation, it was resolved very well and we were able to enjoy the dinner. Restaurant is star worthy.

June 28 for a lunch with relation here. Booked in the bisto but because of the nice weather everyone was in the garden, fine in itself but the first contact in the bistro was already annoyed by the service. Once outside it went nowhere. Didn't they have their day? More than enough staff but service was downright lousy. After sitting for half an hour and finally waving the question for a drink. Waiting for lunch again phew. Finally ordered after a lot of hassle, nothing to wait. Ask; come on sir don't come. So this went on to great legacy. Then just tick off 13.50 for parking Well, it is all that nowadays in the center of Utrecht.
Food was excellent in the end but go here

Was delicious, beautiful room, beautiful building in the center of Utrecht. Very pleasant and warm welcome by reception and other employees
In the restaurant 6 courses with wine arrangement.
Everything was great! Delicious food and wines good and pleasant explanation.fantastic service.
We enjoyed it.It was worthy of 5 star.
Unfortunately we could not say that about the breakfast, which was very disappointing, small basket with 3 mini bread rolls, 3 slices of meat (with half a pack of ham?) Furthermore, everything was missing on the table and had to ask for a cup of milk with the coffee, no salt or pepper, all too little, and the treatment of the staff left something to be desired or was not there, so we went looking for milk.
You could indeed order something such as egg with bacon that was nice. But the bacon was so hard that you could only eat it with your hands.
All in all, certainly not worthy of 5 star, even if it is corona, this is not the quality you can expect.
Shame about a very pleasant stay at this hotel and a great dinner. That's why it was given 4 stars but that is not available breakfast

A real resort in perfect location. Lovely gardens around several buildings.
The rooms are very big and the stuff is extremely kind and service aware.
Brekfest was good and the dining hall grand.
The only thing from 5 stars is that the hotel is a bit old, rooms are not decorated and needs some maintanace, so there is no sense of real luxury.

Not very satified.. The location and atmosphere of this hotel are great, as are the pictures of the rooms on the internet. In fact we had quite a dated room that needs modernization. The bathroom was old and the shower handle was broken (room 124 if anyone wants to do something about it). The wellness was okay, the sign that said have some fruit or a drink was nice especially if there would have actually been something to eat or drink.. after the coffee machine broke at the breakfast and we were first sent the wrong way to find a table (...) We enjoyed the medium okay breakfast. We'll enjoy the city of Utrecht a little extra so we'll be fine. For now, perhaps better to find a different place to stay :)

Karel V has exceptionally friendly staff, you feel very welcome. Nice hotel in the middle of the city, but also quiet and green. Room interior a bit dated, with separate shower and bath, which is very nice, but do something about those broken tiles. Also a separate toilet is always nice. Furthermore, all the luxury you would expect from a 5 star hotel.
Beds fine and after dinner the curtains turned out to be closed for us and there was a nice gift.

It is recommended to dine in the restaurant of Karel V, we had an arrangement with matching wines. Delicious dishes and the wines were not from the most obvious areas, but were truly delicious and generously served.
Breakfast also well taken care of, you could also order a la cart a number of dishes, we did not do it, there was plenty of choice and even a glass of champagne, always delicious on Sunday morning :)

Unacceptable to charge parkin 15 !!! For 5 star Hotel I find the cleanliness to be minimal eg. under the bed the dust has been accumulating for some time !!!. As for breakfast .... all standardized. The staff are really polite

Wow, what a place to spend a few days... It feels like stepping into the 17th century when you are walking on the courtyard.

Costs something but then you also have something. Sometimes a bit dated, but chic, friendly people, fantastic property and location. And delicious food.

The best restaurant in Utrecht. It's an outrage that it doesn't have a Michelin star. The kitchen brigade and all staff so deserve one.

Great hotel, nice location, excellent room and in the center of Utrecht.

Perfect to have a coffee,a glass of wine eat something quick or have a romantic dinner . So cute inside and lovely when is sunny and warm to stay outside in the gardens. It's a hidden jewel in the middle of the center of Utrecht.

We have now been there 3x in 1 year and love to come back every time! Nice hotel, very friendly welcome, nice bar, nice and clean rooms, close to the center, nice restaurants in the hotel, but make your reservation in time!
The breakfast is TOP! Nice breakfast room ... tasty and fresh products ... even glass of bubbles is possible!
Quiet atmosphere .. RECOMMENDED!

Initially booked the executive suite but after we had read on the website that the empire suite had a view of the garden, converted by phone to Empire suite. Unfortunately on arrival no view of the garden but on a building site in front of the door. Still inquiring, it turned out to be the empire suite. It was late and we didn't want to make it too big a point so let it go. Early Sunday morning the guests left for a car rally early and with a lot of noise from the parking lot under our room. And on Monday morning the work started early so sleeping late and a view of the garden unfortunately did not get much. And that for 502 euros for 2 nights. E.e.e. still raised on departure and it would be discussed internally. There was also a blood stain in the pillowcase on the 1st night due to a mosquito bite. You can expect a 5 * hotel to be replaced, but unfortunately.

Unique and special hotel. Lovely bedrooms and facilities still keep their essence of 1800 when it was originally built.

Location is perfect, right in the center. The room was fine and clean. Staff friendly and professional. A must if you want to stay in Utrecht.
