A solid hotel in a good location but the facilities are very dated and some key factors let it down. Namely, avoid the in-house restaurant. We had the signature Maltese buffet: pasta was terribly over cooked and the cut meats were bone dry. We expected a lot more for 80 for 2.
Also, you ll pay extra if you want to use the sauna ( 15 per person, per day) that appears in a lot of their advertising - not a very luxurious feel for a luxury hotel.
An extremely elegant hotel. Brilliant location, right next to the entrance to Valletta. Very close to the bus station.
Great location and spacious room. Staff are very attentive.
Excellent hotel. Very high level of service, cleanliness, structure and food.
The meal is not delicious, the service is not bad, the equipment is a bit old
One of the best hotels I have visited so far. The location, the service, the friendly staff: you feel welcome from the moment you arrive.
Beautiful pool you can dive into the ocean from a very private small Beach short walk to Valletta and bus stops.
Great hotel with brilliant service, gave it 4 stars because it could do with a makeover, a bit tired in the decor
Excellent room and fantastic friendly staff. Helped out in so many ways. We will definitely be back. There are 88 steps to climb when you leave the hotel to go into Valetta so if your fitness isn't up to it you might need to be taken to the top in a car. Coming back is easy as it's all downhill. The steps are easy to navigate but you need to be aware they are there.
Superbe location, close to sightseing and citycenter but still quiet and calm! Beautiful garden, spacious rooms, comfortable bed. Wonderful pool. Great seaview. Friendly staff. Breakfast due to Covid a bit difficult with packages of sugar or salad dressing. But staff handled it great. Felt very safe as the temperature was taken every time we came back to the hotel! Thank you for making our stay pleasant !
Beautiful hotel near the center of Valetta. Great pools, clean rooms. Good breakfasts.
A dream place, well placed conditions to superlative perfect cleaning, excellent food
Very nice hotel, christmas lights outside the hotel look nice
Lovely bedroom large comfortable beds good shower and upgraded to sea view which is nice as I think inland views may be troubled by road noise. Bar OK but menu very limited (especially for Vegans) and service slow but good views though. Hotel could be so much better our room wasn't ready until 4pm (should have been 3pm) and since we arrived at 2pm you would have thought they would have done better than 1 hour late - we did get a free coffee but only when I asked. Breakfast not 5 star limited choice nearly everything very sweet even fresh fruit and little organisation evident. Most strange thing there are no stairs between floors so you have to wait for a lift even when going up one floor for breakfast! Location is excellent for Valletta (there are a lot of steps up to the road to Valletta) and pools good and lovely views from sea view rooms and public rooms.
Really enjoyed our time here. Great location, decent sized room, and plentiful amenities. Had bit of a,, "resort" feel to it. Took breakfast a couple of times and was not disappointed. Likewise with dinner, no a la carte, but rather themed buffets. The BBQ at the "Tiki" village was most enjoyable with views over the water. And the Middle Eastern themed one a few days later was rather good. Great place, great staff, loved it!
Nice hotel indoor pool is fantastic and so is the food
Great hotel and facilities. The staff is extremely helpful and friendly.
The only problem I found was the actual location: although at the back of the hotel you have great views, a private beach and a small marina, if you want to walk to town (Valletta) , you have to climbs a lot of steps, then cross a busy road and continue up the hill for about 10 minutes.
Personally, I would rather be a bit closer to town... but of course if you are going to stay in the hotel most of the time this shouldn't be a problem for you. Also the outside steps were really hazardous due to the rain: they were VERY slippery and a few people almost fell (myself included) going down from the top of the entrance.
Wonderful rooms, wonderful staff, wonderful food (even for vegans!)! I love this place so so much and I had an amazing stay here. If I ever visit Malta again I'll definitely stay at this hotel again.
Very expensive for a poor catering service and bar.
The name Grand hotel is very fitting. A majestic old hotel 10min walk from centre of Valletta. Probably due for a refit it oozes character and has all the indications that this was once one of the islands top hotels. Somewhat dated now its still an excellent place to stay if only for its excellent waterfront location.
We have not yet stayed at the hotel, but visit regularly for their brunch on the weekend in the Phoenix Restaurant.
From the minute you enter the phoenicia, there is a sense of occasion and the restaurant itself transports you back in time to an age of classic luxury.
Apart from the beautiful decor, staff are extremely attentive and helpful - easily one of the best experiences we had in malta.
Brunch starts with a bellini/glass of prosecco (or 3) and the includes a huge spread of bread, cold cuts, cereal, sweets, fresh honeycomb and more. The main is either chosen a la carte or there is a second buffet table (this was different from time to time) with hot mains
Very nice hotel at a very convenient spot for exploring valetta on foot and if you hire a car it is very easy to get in and out!
5 star hotel to avoid. You are dealing with scammers who will wander you for months to get back the 100 euros of deposit that asks you. I've been waiting for a transfer since last July which had to be made within 30 days of leaving the hotel. On the spot they understand you immediately when you speak in French but when you ask for the reimbursement of the amount as if by chance more nobody understands you .. brief hotel to flee.
One of the best five star hotels in Malta. The advantage is that it is close to the capital Valletta and is convenient for travel. The sea view is also good.
Good upper middle level, self-categorizing 5 usp but personal benchmarks I give 4-4,5 . The service is good and friendly, breakfast the same oat as most. The location is great if you want peace and the old town is a stone's throw away. The big plus is the soundproofing of the rooms - there is nothing to do during the week. Another great plus and unheard of was that he didn't get a late-check out for money because the hotel was full, but an hour's room was free, where we could take a shower, change clothes and re-pack - that's a big thank you!
88 steps not funny and thats just to gey out of the hotel.
Great suites and rooms and nice breakfast buffet with great views. Highly recommend. Location is close to the City Center. Nice for family vacations. Nice pools ,Also has an indoor pool as well as an outdoor play area.
Not a 5 star hotel if you are expecting a 5 star service offered by other reputable brands. A very good 3 star hotel though.
This is 5 star luxury hotel very nice been here one day its very central cannot fault complementary drink on arrival very welcome
Amazing everything about the hotel is great. The staff, the facilities are all amazing .
The hotel staff were friendly, efficient and excellent. Thisand under pinned all other experiences. The room and bathroom were spotless, with lovely sheets and fresh towels every day if you choose to have them. The positions of the hotel is perfect for walking into Valetta or walking to the ferry that takes you to Silema. The bus station is also located within a short walk, giving you access to the rest of the island. If the air-conditioned buses don't appeal, the concierge service will happily organise drivers to take you places, even on Bank holidays and Sundays. Do visit the Heritage Malta sites if you're a culture vulture as they are world class.
Great location just outside Valletta'city gates. Wonderful pool. Fabulous views. Excellent staff. Rooms a bit tired.
A very recommendable hotel!
The entire hotel complex, including the spa, pool and fitness area, as well as the restaurant and bar, are nicely decorated and always clean.
The staff is practically everywhere and is always ready to help the visitor or to offer him something.
The rooms are a good size and are also appropriate for 2 people. There is something to be found in every drawer here and is therefore equipped with almost everything you could need, from sewing kits to slippers and flashlights. The view from my room is also great and especially recommended at night! I only missed the lack of ceiling lighting as the central light in the room, as you have to get by with three table lamps.
The facade of the hotel is definitely past its most beautiful days, but this will definitely be renovated soon.
I like this hotel very much because everything has been thought of here. If you can live with the expensive prices in the restaurant and the always elegant staff, you will definitely be happy here!
Convenient location, cozy facilities and friendly service
Someone in the hotel room opened the door of the room with the master key, took cash and went to the Malta Police Department to go to the Malta Police Station to report the money. The Malta Police Department reported that the Malta Police Department would send the receipt of the lost address by e-mail. There was a strange case when the hotel staff opened the door at night with the master key and there was nothing uncomfortable even though there was a guest in the room. Even though there was a problem with the security and the staff training of the hotel, the hotel did not say a word sorry, I have been told that I have to come to Malta to consider compensation.
Please note that room security is especially important for this hotel.
I had been there 2 times for business trip. Wonderful amenities, excellent staff and room service. Excellent breakfast overall nice ambiance to explore with family. I have limitation of rating till 5 star else I can go for 10 also.
Just had an awesome time here. Lovely rooms and great service. At in an ideal place to visit Valetta centre from but best of all grou d level and pool etc area right near the water overlooking the port and old castle in the distance . Definitely going back !
Definitely not a five star hotel. Steak much better in local restaurants and buffet breakfast ok but nothing special. Some staff very friendly others positively miserable including the staff who greet you in the restaurant and direct you to your table. Not good value for money and decor in the rooms looking a bit tired
Dated, building outside in serious need of TLC but the rooms are spacious and some with spectacular views of the sea/ bay. Clean and comfortable rooms, breakfast is ok, some of the staff are friendly and helpful. Ideal location. Didn't enjoy the food in the restaurant...found it expensive and tasteless!!
Hotel in a good starting position. A few minutes walk to the old town. The hotel could use a renovation in some areas. Positive is the Tiki restaurant to mention. This includes the food, location (waterfront) as well as the service (does not apply to breakfast restaurant).
Superb hotel with quaint charm. Close to the city center. Superb pool.
Beautiful hotel, cleanliness, order, silence. Room with balcony and sea view. Very friendly staff. There are Russian speakers, which greatly facilitates communication. We were delighted.
Fabulous food and service, great facilities 24 hour bar, indoor and outdoor pools. Staff are top class.
My daughter and my parents were on vacation and had a great time, the treatment by the employees was very good. Clean rooms, comfortable beds and acceptable bathroom. The pool was undoubtedly what pleased my little girl who spent the whole day there. A success to go with family. It is cozy and has a good location.
Perfect hotel
Perfect service, clean, breakfast is great, ambiance is recommended.
Hotel charged me from my card 150 EUR deposit and does not reply to my emails when the money has not been credited back in time they promised.
Fancy and tidy. Food was superb, but the jacuzzi was cold
Good location, approx. 800 m from the old town of Valetta. Friendly and helpful staff. Immediately take care of all matters. Breakfast is tailored to the needs of English visitors, but there is something for every taste. The rooms are clean and are cleaned and checked twice a day. Water is provided free of charge. You have to like the plush character of the hotel and the rooms. A bit old, but still OK.
It's a nice hotel, close to the city center and to the small harbor. Although it is a 5 star hotel, it doesn't really feel like that. The food in the dining room was mediocre. The rooms were old fashioned. The service was excellent.
Idea location.near bus terminal .city gate main food and shopping streets .hotel is a but dated .but very comfortable .large buffet breakfast also very good Buffett evening dinning
Went there only for the spa. Perfect treatment for couples, highly recommended, will come back for sure :)
Loved this hotel. Great view from balcony. Breakfast is great but service needs improvement in restaurant.
I had an unpleasant experience because I had to pay 50 euros a day, the amount that I did not get back after 3 weeks after departure.
The chairs in the main hall and restaurant chairs have dirty cloth.
Booked 5 nights in mid-October 2016
Positive: good breakfast buffet. Location right on the sea with the possibility of swimming (pool + sea), the staff (especially the Maltese) is very, very friendly and welcoming, 500 meters to the beautiful old town (especially in the evening), 300m to the main bus terminal of all of Malta (very close recommend - all buses 21 per week).
Neutral: rooms are large and well equipped, shower + bathtub + very hot water - but a bit old! The air conditioning also has problems! In front of our room in the direction of the main entrance there were often buses with long running engines (that bothers, because the old windows hardly protect against noise).
Negative: Single-ply recycled toilet paper and simple white paper napkins at breakfast (+ wobbling table) do not belong in a 5-star hotel - as well as a 25-minute queue (approx. 60 people) on the Sunday before access to breakfast. The hotel can't do anything for the jellyfish that caught me swimming (except maybe to put up a net).
I would book here again - but 4 stars are probably more honest for the whole package!
Not so well organised for a 5 star hotel.
I did not like: empty room fridge, sign for 50 per night kept on credit card but no release form signed at departure when you pay in cash, sign for 5 to have a plug adaptor but nothing when you brink it back, kitchen smell in room.
However I liked the internal spaces. The room was large and nice
Not really a 5 star hotel but a good service, nice pool,. The gym is not so big. Generally speaking a good tourist hotel that will not disappoint you
Its a nice hotel but staff and services could be more efficient
